I Wish To Never Leave Your Side - Chapter 34
Qiu Yan had just finished filming that scene and hadn’t yet shaken off the lingering emotions. Her hands were even colder than Mo Lishen’s.
She obediently let Mo Lishen hold her hands, gazing at her in a daze.
Indeed, it was fine when they didn’t meet, but the moment they did, her heart would flutter again.
Mo Lishen was more beautiful than anyone Qiu Yan had ever seen, she thought to herself.
As she stared, Qiu Yan suddenly remembered something very important.
“Oh no,” Qiu Yan exclaimed abruptly.
Mo Lishen, who had just begun to feel a sense of calm, was startled by her sudden cry.
But her expression remained unchanged.
“What’s wrong?”
“I forgot to cook.” Qiu Yan quickly withdrew her hand, about to dash to the kitchen. “I’ll start now.”
Mo Lishen grabbed her wrist, pulling her back in front of her.
“If I hadn’t come, would you have skipped it?” Mo Lishen’s brows furrowed slightly.
Qiu Yan avoided her gaze. “I… I’ve been trying to lose weight lately.”
Mo Lishen’s expression turned complicated as she looked Qiu Yan up and down, estimating her weight to be no more than 95 pounds.
“Ex… exercising,” Qiu Yan corrected herself.
“Don’t bother. We’ll order from a hotel later.” Only then did Mo Lishen withdraw her gaze.
“Oh, okay.”
“Try on those dresses and come out to show me.”
Mo Lishen gestured with her chin toward the boxes nearby, then turned and sat on the sofa.
“There’s a cocktail party tomorrow evening. You’ll accompany me.” Mo Lishen crossed one leg over the other, smiling as she looked at her.
“Am I allowed to?” Qiu Yan asked tentatively.
Mo Lishen frowned. “I recall you asked that question last time.”
“Yes, you are. Don’t ask again.”
“Okay.”
Qiu Yan nodded, picked up the boxes, and walked back to the bedroom.
This time, there were five dresses in total, all with novel designs and fabrics that felt expensive to the touch.
Qiu Yan carefully put on the first one, stepped into the matching high heels, opened the bedroom door, and walked out slowly.
Hearing the sound, Mo Lishen looked up.
Qiu Yan’s skin was as smooth and fair as mutton-fat jade. The perfectly fitted dress accentuated her gentle temperament, making her look elegant and beautiful.
A satisfied smile tugged at the corner of Mo Lishen’s lips. She studied Qiu Yan intently for about three minutes before waving her hand, signaling her to change into the next one.
Each time Qiu Yan came out in a new dress, Mo Lishen was struck anew by her beauty.
But when it came to the last dress, Qiu Yan took a long time to emerge. Mo Lishen glanced toward the bedroom door, stood up, and strode over.
Qiu Yan was struggling with the last dress, the straps were positioned near her shoulder blades, and she couldn’t reach them.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fasten the straps properly.
Just as Qiu Yan was feeling frustrated, the bedroom door opened.
“What’s wrong?” came the familiar, light voice.
“These straps… they’re not easy to tie,” Qiu Yan said, slightly embarrassed.
Mo Lishen turned her around by the shoulders, her fingers pinching the straps as she attempted to tie them into a bow.
In the process, her fingers inevitably brushed against Qiu Yan’s skin. When her nails lightly grazed Qiu Yan’s shoulder blades, Qiu Yan stiffened, a tingling sensation spreading through her entire body.
For some reason, Mo Lishen’s usually nimble fingers failed to tie the bow properly two or three times.
It wasn’t until a fine layer of sweat had formed on Qiu Yan’s forehead that Mo Lishen’s voice finally came from behind.
“Done.”
“Th… thank you.”
Qiu Yan turned around, her cheeks flushed, and showed Mo Lishen the final dress.
Mo Lishen continued to examine the dresses with great seriousness, only speaking after a long while: “Keep the golden one.”
The dress before her was too revealing, making it the first one Mo Lishen eliminated.
The golden gown only exposed her calves and arms, while the rest of her body remained fully covered.
It seems I should ask them to send dresses with more fabric next time, Mo Lishen thought to herself.
Qiu Yan nodded, carefully hanging up the golden gown and neatly packing the others back into their boxes.
By the time she stepped out of the bedroom, Bai Hua had already delivered the meal.
More than half of the dishes were still spicy.
Qiu Yan pressed her lips together, feeling a warmth spread through her heart.
At the dining table, Mo Lishen picked up a piece of fish and placed it in her bowl.
“Did you save a girl last night?”
Qiu Yan looked at Mo Lishen, slightly nervous: “It was just a coincidence. I wouldn’t say I saved her, it was the bodyguards you sent who drove them away.”
“So it was you who saved her, not me.” Qiu Yan smiled sweetly at Mo Lishen, her tone clearly ingratiating.
Smooth talker.
Mo Lishen curved her lips slightly. “Are two bodyguards enough?”
Qiu Yan nearly choked on her rice, looking at Mo Lishen with a pitiful expression.
Mo Lishen chuckled softly and poured her a glass of water. “If it’s not enough, remember to tell me.”
“Enough, enough, more than enough,” Qiu Yan blinked rapidly, looking utterly adorable.
Mo Lishen placed a piece of spare rib in her bowl. Teasing the little one made her even cuter.
After the meal, Mo Lishen had no intention of staying the night.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow evening.”
“Okay.”
–
Shangfeng Hotel.
Qiu Yan linked arms with Mo Lishen as the two strode side by side into the banquet.
Mo Lishen stood half a head taller than her. Together, their gowns complemented each other, and their auras harmonized perfectly.
“President Mo.” Someone came over to offer a toast.
Qiu Yan had a sharp memory for faces. She remembered this person, the last time they attended a banquet together, he had also come to toast.
Upon noticing Qiu Yan beside Mo Lishen, the man visibly paused for a moment but quickly regained his composure. This time, he didn’t ignore her but nodded politely in her direction.
Qiu Yan lowered her gaze slightly and returned the gesture.
Mo Lishen offered a faint smile to the man toasting, raising her glass politely but only letting it touch her lips.
“Are you cold?” Mo Lishen grasped Qiu Yan’s shoulder, checking her temperature.
The air conditioning in the hall was strong, and she worried Qiu Yan might catch a chill.
Mo Lishen raised her hand slightly, and Bai Hua promptly appeared before them with a coat.
Taking the coat, Mo Lishen draped it over Qiu Yan’s shoulders.
Just as she turned around, her vision went dark as someone covered her eyes with their hands.
Mo Lishen instantly tensed, her grip on Qiu Yan’s hand tightening unconsciously, her right thumb resting on the mechanism of her ring.
But she quickly realized that in such a public setting, it was unlikely anyone would dare to act so boldly.
Besides, Bai Hua was nearby and showed no reaction.
Mo Lishen’s tense body relaxed at once. Releasing Qiu Yan’s hand, she reached back and clasped the wrist of the person behind her.
“How old are you?” Mo Lishen’s tone was indulgent.
She gently pulled the person’s wrist down and turned to face her.
Sure enough, it was Mo Lihan.
Mo Lihan blinked playfully, smiling brightly at her.
Qiu Yan observed the woman before her, her lips like vermilion, her complexion like powdered blossoms, elegant and dignified, as tender and full as petals nourished by dew, yet without a trace of ostentation.
She’s much more beautiful than I am, Qiu Yan thought to herself.
“What are you doing here?” Mo Lishen glanced around, searching for Lin Yu’an.
“Tsk.” Mo Lihan gently pinched Mo Lishen’s cheek. “Why can’t I come?”
Qiu Yan’s hands tightly clutched her shawl.
Mo Lishen seemed… to really like her.
Even such an overstepping gesture didn’t anger Mo Lishen.
Qiu Yan swallowed hard.
“Wearing so little again?” Mo Lishen’s brows slightly furrowed as she took off the cloak Baihua had prepared for her and draped it over Mo Lihan.
It seemed Mo Lishen wasn’t only like this with her.
Qiu Yan lowered her gaze, her shoulders even slumping slightly.
Baihua, standing beside her, sensed Qiu Yan’s change. She felt somewhat sorry for her but couldn’t say anything.
The Sixth Young Miss Mo was Mo Lishen’s forbidden topic, absolutely not to be mentioned.
“Alright, I’ll go chat with others over there and won’t disturb you two anymore.” Mo Lihan’s voice was gentle as she glanced at Qiu Yan with a friendly smile.
But Qiu Yan was looking at the ground and didn’t notice Mo Lihan’s gaze.
“I’ll take you home after the banquet ends.” Mo Lishen walked her a few steps and said.
“The butler can drive…” Mo Lihan started to say but stopped when she saw Mo Lishen silently staring at her.
“Fine, fine, I’ll come find you after it’s over.” Mo Lihan poked her cheek to appease her.
“Mhm.” Mo Lishen smiled.
She watched Mo Lihan for a moment before turning back to take Qiu Yan’s hand.
It was much colder than before.
“Are you that cold?” Mo Lishen frowned.
Qiu Yan shook her head, forcing a faint, strained smile onto her face.
But Mo Lishen was preoccupied and didn’t notice Qiu Yan’s unusual behavior.
When the banquet ended, Mo Lishen gently tugged Qiu Yan’s hand.
“Let Baihua take you back. I have something to attend to.”
Qiu Yan nodded, then lightly caught Mo Lishen’s fingers as she was about to leave.
“Will… will you come over tonight?” Qiu Yan looked up at her, her eyes pleading.
“I, ”
Before Mo Lishen could finish, Qiu Yan interrupted: “I’m a little scared.”
[Next time you’re scared, say it directly.]
That’s what Mo Lishen had told her, and Qiu Yan remembered.
“Alright, I’ll come over later.” Mo Lishen’s gaze drifted elsewhere as she spoke, seeming anxious.
She quickly withdrew her hand and turned to leave.
Qiu Yan stood there, watching the direction Mo Lishen had gone, and indeed saw that woman again.
Qiu Yan only felt her eyes stinging, her voice slightly hoarse: “Sister Baihua, let’s go.”
She knew she was a pet, but she had thought she was the most favored one.
It seemed she had been too naive. Mo Lishen interacted with so many people every day, it was normal for someone to pursue her or for her to pursue others. She herself might just be a pastime for when Mo Lishen was bored.
Qiu Yan smiled bitterly. She had actually used such a low-level tactic to try to keep her.
How ridiculous.
Why did she think Mo Lishen treated her differently? She had nothing, the most unnoticeable person even in a crowd.
She was just a bird kept in a cage for display, while the people at these banquets were the ones Mo Lishen should truly be interacting with.
Qiu Yan got into the car, her head throbbing with pain, her stomach churning.
–
Mo Lishen knew Lin Yu’an had also been invited to this banquet. She narrowed her eyes, scanning the room, and saw the man bowing and scraping as he toasted others, her eyes filled with contempt.
She found Mo Lihan, took her by the wrist, and escorted her home.
In the car, Mo Lihan fastened her seatbelt and spoke loudly to herself, “Xiao Shen has really grown up. He has someone he likes and didn’t even tell his sister.”
Mo Lishen frowned deeply, looking at her with disbelief, almost as if she were a lunatic.
“What are you talking about?”
“That girl just now is your girlfriend, right? Good taste, she’s very pretty.” Mo Lihan looked ahead, seemingly quite satisfied with this potential brother-in-law.
“What girlfriend? She’s just a… just a female companion,” Mo Lishen paused mid-sentence.
“But you like her, don’t you?” Mo Lihan turned her head and smiled at him.
Mo Lishen froze.
Like her?
