I Will Fall Madly In Love With - Chapter 9
[One Week Later]
Early in the morning, a soft beam of sunlight filtered through a gap in the curtains, gently spilling across the plush bedding. I slowly opened my eyes, my vision gradually sharpening through the lingering haze. Looking around, I realized I was right back in my own intimately familiar bedroom.
I kicked off the covers, climbed out of bed, and walked slowly to the bedroom door, pushing it open lightly.
As soon as I stepped out, I saw Mom busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen while Mimi stood beside her helping out. The two of them cooperated with effortless synergy, creating a heartwarming and idyllic morning scene.
During breakfast, the conversation naturally drifted toward Xi Yuxiu.
“Mimi, dear, Xiuxiu is staying over at your place all by himself who knows how he’s holding up? Shouldn’t you go back and check on him?” Mom asked after finishing her meal, setting down her utensils to look at Mimi.
“Don’t worry, Auntie. He’s already twenty-two years old, not a little kid anymore~ Besides, at this hour, he’s probably still fast asleep and refusing to get out of bed,” Mimi said, turning her head to glance at the phone screen resting on the table, which glowed with the numbers 6:20.
“That’s true. In my mind, he’s still that little tyke who used to get teased to tears by Momo when they were kids and would come running to me to complain!” Recalling the trio’s childhood antics, Mom couldn’t help letting out a soft chuckle.
Right at that moment, a crisp, melodious ringtone shattered the air it was Mimi’s cell phone.
“Talk about the devil,” Mimi muttered with a helpless expression, staring at the flashing caller ID displaying “Brat.” After a brief hesitation, she pressed the answer button.
“EMERGENCY! CODE RED!” A roar blasted from the other end of the line, loud enough to practically blow through the phone receiver.
Mimi hurriedly jerked the phone away from her ear, terrified that the thunderous shout might rupture her eardrum.
“Brat, what is it this time?” Mimi frowned, speaking in an irritable tone as she reluctantly trudged toward the window.
After quite a while, Mimi finally hung up the phone and returned to her seat.
“What’s wrong with Xiuxiu?” Seeing Mimi return with a sigh, I asked with concern. I watched as Mimi lifted her head, her eyes brimming with helpless annoyance.
“Ugh, it’s really nothing much… It’s just that my brother has always dreamed of getting into an internet company called YHM, so he’s been desperately gathering reference materials on the company lately. Who would’ve thought that all the materials he found turned out to be entirely in English! Since he can’t read them himself, he had no choice but to ask me for help.” As she spoke, Mimi shook her head repeatedly, wearing an expression of utter exasperation.
“Is that all? Send it over, I’ll help him handle it.” I smiled and gently patted Mimi’s head, indicating my willingness to take on the task.
“We can’t do that! Big Sis, your body hasn’t fully recovered yet, you need plenty of time to rest and recuperate quietly. I can just go online and find someone fluent in English to help him translate,” Mimi waved her hands hastily, rejecting the idea with absolute firmness.
“It’s fine, I’m going back to work soon anyway, so I can use this as a chance to ease back into it. Besides, this falls right under my professional expertise,” I insisted.
“No way, that brat’s crummy documents aren’t worthy of being translated by Big Sis.” Mimi shook her head even more vigorously.
“Mimi, just let her translate it. She’s simply not the type of person who can sit around doing nothing,” Mom advised.
Seeing that she couldn’t sway me, Mimi finally relented and forwarded the documents to me.
After finishing breakfast, I returned to my bedroom, opened my computer, and skimmed through the documents. The volume of content was indeed substantial.
I stretched my fingers and prepared to work my magic. Mimi pulled up a chair and parked herself right beside me.
As I focused on translating the text, my fingers flew across the keyboard in a steady rhythm, while Mimi sat quietly by my side, offering silent companionship.
Time slipped away second by second, and at last, I completed the translation.
I stretched out my arms and rolled my stiff neck.
Mimi stared at me in absolute awe, stars dancing in her eyes as she gushed excitedly, “Wow, Big Sis, you are truly amazing! You translated all of that in no time flat.”
“It’s nothing,” I curved the corners of my mouth into a relaxed smile. “Go ahead and send it to Xiuxiu.” Hearing my words, Mimi nodded obediently, swiftly forwarded the document to Xiuxiu, and dialed his number without a moment’s hesitation.
Meanwhile, my thoughts drifted back to the materials I had just translated.
Through that brief review, I learned that the YHM Xiuxiu was aiming for was a domestic gaming company that had exploded in popularity over recent years. Because their servers were hosted overseas, a vast portion of their internal documentation was written in English.
If he managed to land a job at a company like that, Uncle probably wouldn’t object too strenuously anymore.
Come to think of it, quite a long time had passed since my last translation gig. Picking up English materials to translate once more, that long-lost sensation felt unexpectedly warm and familiar. This minor translation exercise fortified my resolve to return to work all the more.
Once Mimi finished her call with Xiuxiu, her face bloomed with a radiant smile. She spun around and announced with bubbly enthusiasm, “Big Sis, Xiuxiu kept thanking you over and over on the phone! He said he’s deeply grateful and even wants to treat you to dinner to show his appreciation!” With that, the corners of her mouth ticked upward into a sweet smile.
Following that, she paused briefly before adding, “However! I already turned him down on your behalf! After all, your body hasn’t fully recovered yet, and you need a good rest. We can always reschedule once you’re feeling better! Besides, I just gave Xiuxiu strict instructions to stay put at home and seriously prepare for his upcoming interview.” Looking at Mimi’s earnest expression, she was utterly adorable.
I smiled in response. “Alright, alright, whatever you say.”
“Oh, right, Big Sis. Do you want to know why Xiuxiu is so hell-bent on getting into YHM?” Mimi leaned in mysteriously with a teasing nudge.
Her playful demeanor instantly hooked my curiosity, prompting me to press, “Why’s that?”
Mimi chuckled softly, dropping her voice into a conspiratorial whisper. “Because the person he likes works at that company!”
“Oh? Really?” I asked in mild surprise. “Well, then he better work hard so he can get closer to the girl he likes.”
Yet at those words, Mimi suddenly locked eyes with me, clamping a hand over her mouth as she stammered, “Ah, well… actually… not quite…”
“Hm?” Noticing Mimi’s bizarre reaction, I grew suspicious and prepared to interrogate her further.
Before I could get a word out, however, Mimi spun around, her eyes darting away nervously toward the bookshelf.
Seemingly catching my gaze, Mimi withdrew her eyes instantly, shifted topics at lightning speed, and pointed a finger toward a book resting on the highest shelf of the bookcase. “Big Sis, I want to read that book.”
Seeing this, I didn’t probe any further. Cooperating fully, I stood on my tiptoes, stretched my arms upward with all my might, and finally managed to snag the book Mimi had pointed out.
Taking it down carefully, I smiled and handed the book into Mimi’s waiting hands, murmuring gently, “Alright, here you go.”
