I Was Taken by the Female Lead After Transmigrating into a Book - Chapter 10
Bai Feifei exhausted her patience and suppressed the urge to kick her, asking calmly, “Who are you?”
The person’s face immediately froze.
Then she frowned, took a step back, and stopped deliberately mimicking a teenage girl. Her voice was no longer sweet and became full of sarcasm and malice.
“The young miss has a bad memory, huh? We were in a group together two years ago, and you already forgot? Back then, you lorded over everyone because your family was rich, and no one dared to do anything to you. Now that your family is bankrupt and your dad committed suicide, what gives you the right to be so arrogant?”
Bai Feifei had been able to tolerate it before, but when she heard her insult her deceased father, the smile on her face completely vanished.
Her eyes were naturally darker than most people’s. When she stared at someone silently without smiling, it always made them feel a sense of dread, as if they were being watched by someone of higher status.
“I think I remember who you are,” Bai Feifei said calmly, relaxing and leaning back. “Fang Ning? Is that you?”
The person named Fang Ning gritted her teeth, holding her ground.
The original host had been in a group two years ago with the intervention of the small workshop. Unfortunately, they never reached their peak. The show was a flop, the group was a flop, and they didn’t have any notable work. They broke up less than a month after their debut.
There were seven people in the group. They were all scattered now. Some were married with children, some were still performing wherever they could, and others, like Fang Ning, were afraid of not making it in a new place. They chose to stay, hoping to make as much money as possible while they still had some appeal.
Bai Feifei then smiled, pointed in the direction Fang Ning had come from, and asked knowingly, “So who’s the young master you’ve latched onto this time?”
Bai Feifei’s tone was not polite. The word “latch” was quite ambiguous, but Fang Ning didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. She even seemed a little proud. “That’s Young Master Ling from the Ling family.”
Bai Feifei’s eyebrows twitched. She asked without showing any emotion, “From the Ling family?”
Fang Ning held her head high, almost to the sky.
She patted the small bag at her waist. It was very small and looked like it couldn’t even fit a lipstick—a typical accessory. Bai Feifei knew she wanted to show it off and immediately laughed. “It’s fake, sis.”
The smile on Fang Ning’s face froze. Her voice became sharp. “What did you say?!”
“Fake, it’s all fake,” Bai Feifei said, suddenly finding it amusing. “The bag is fake, and the person is fake too.”
The “Young Master Ling” she was referring to was Ling Xinghe. And Ling Xinghe was Huo Wu’s biological younger brother. She also had an older sister named Ling Xingchen.
If Huo Wu hadn’t ended up in an orphanage as a child, her real name would have been Ling Xinghui.
Bai Feifei had never met Ling Xinghe, but the original story had mentioned that he was a very tall man, about 6 feet 4 inches. There was no way he could be only a head taller than Fang Ning.
Bai Feifei was 5 feet 5 inches, and Fang Ning only came up to her shoulder, which meant she was about 5 feet tall.
“What are you talking about?!” Fang Ning pretended to grab her, but her hand was stopped by Fu Xiaoxiao, who had been on guard the whole time.
Fu Xiaoxiao’s face was sour. “What are you doing? Did you ask me before you tried to touch her?”
“Who are you?” Fang Ning’s wrist was held captive. She couldn’t break free and started to struggle in a rage.
Fu Xiaoxiao was strong. Fang Ning couldn’t get away, but she was very persistent. Fu Xiaoxiao simply found an opportunity to throw her to the ground, clapped her hands, and said with a proud look on her face, “I’m Feifei’s assistant!”
Fang Ning fell to the ground and actually laughed a few times.
She slowly got up, her eyes filled with resentment. She looked at Bai Feifei and said, “Just you wait. Let’s see if you can get anything good from Brother Kuan. If he lets you go unscathed, then I’ll call you a pro.”
Bai Feifei didn’t even give her a look this time. She had Fu Xiaoxiao push her away.
Fu Xiaoxiao had no idea who this person was. As they walked, she asked, “Babe, who was that?”
Bai Feifei thought about it for a moment but couldn’t come up with a single word to accurately describe Fang Ning.
The elevator “dinged” on the third floor. The view was a little more open. Bai Feifei sat in the wheelchair, took out a blanket, covered her legs, patted them, and said, “Just a poor person who is always deceiving herself.”
Fu Xiaoxiao nodded as if she understood, then suddenly said, “I think you’re like the Bai Feifei I knew again.”
“When was I not?” Bai Feifei paused, turning to look at her. “Was it my style? I’ve changed. I’m going to wear a student uniform for at least ten years.”
“For the past two years, you’ve hated student uniforms, saying they were lame and outdated. You insisted that punk was the cutting edge of fashion and even made me get purple hair, which almost got my leg broken by my mom…” Fu Xiaoxiao mumbled. “You even said that all school uniforms look the same except for the custom-made ones!”
An orange sea
“Well, it’s different now,” Bai Feifei said. “Ah Wu said she likes students.”
Fu Xiaoxiao heard her, and she nodded, following along. “Alright then.”
Just before they reached Bald Old Pan’s door, Fu Xiaoxiao suddenly lowered her head and whispered to Bai Feifei, “How about I call my mom to give us some backup?”
Asking for mom’s help at this age?
Bai Feifei rolled her eyes at the air and pushed the door open herself.
The third floor was Guo Kuan’s private office. It wasn’t very big, only about 20 square meters, but it had a large rooftop garden. He had also extravagantly planted a lot of greenery and put up a sunshade to create a simple outdoor lounge area.
Bai Feifei looked around but couldn’t find anyone. “Brother Guo?” she called out.
The boss’s chair behind the heavy desk moved.
Then, the chair was laboriously spun around, and Guo Kuan, with a full head of black hair, finally appeared.
“Oh, Feifei,” Guo Kuan got up from his chair and bowed comically toward Bai Feifei, asking with great concern, “Is your leg okay? Can you move it?”
Bai Feifei’s eyelid twitched.
Was he digging a hole for her?
If she were to say a single word about being able to walk or jump, Bald Old Pan would make her work so hard for the next two months that her legs would really break.
Before coming here, Bai Feifei had already told Fu Xiaoxiao to be careful with her acting and not to give anything away. This girl was good at nothing else, but her acting was superb when it came to pretending to be pitiful. It was a skill she had honed for over 20 years with Ms. Xi Rong.
So, Bai Feifei lowered her eyes, and they immediately turned red. She shook her head as if wanting to say something, but not a single word came out.
Guo Kuan’s eager movements stopped.
Then he asked tentatively, “What did the doctor say?”
This was Fu Xiaoxiao’s time to shine. “She has to stay in bed, do minimal exercise, and eat food with good flow… to promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.”
She almost said “eat flowing food.”
Bai Feifei sighed in sync with Fu Xiaoxiao’s words. She looked up, her face a picture of sadness.
“Brother Kuan, are we signing the contract today?” Bai Feifei said.
Guo Kuan hummed in agreement, went back to his desk, and took out three contracts. He looked at them for a long time before taking out the termination contract. Bai Feifei watched him, secretly cursing him in her heart.
This old man had two faces. If she had been standing there perfectly fine, or if the original host had shown up, Guo Kuan would have probably tried to fool her into signing a renewal.
With this situation, Bai Feifei’s leg wouldn’t be able to move for at least a month. Even if she could walk after a month, the buzz she had generated would have long since passed.
To make more money off her, he would have to go through the trouble of creating more hype and buying her resources. By the time her contract expired, all his efforts would have benefited someone else.
Cutting his losses now would still bring in a few hundred thousand yuan, which was enough to promote three or four new small groups. Even if they didn’t become famous, selling them would still bring in a decent profit.
Thinking of this, Guo Kuan looked at Bai Feifei’s legs again. He was still unwilling, but he signed the contract anyway.
Leaving the small, broken-down workshop with the termination contract, Bai Feifei’s eyes were practically squinting with relief.
Fu Xiaoxiao stretched with her. “Is that all there is to it?”
“What else?” Bai Feifei’s legs were a little tired from sitting for so long. She crossed one leg over the other on the chair and said happily, “Guo Kuan is an idiot. He has no vision, he’s a coward, and he’s stingy… He deserves to never get rich in this lifetime.”
Fu Xiaoxiao nodded, about to say something, but their path was blocked.
Again?
Fu Xiaoxiao frowned and stepped forward. “Who are you?”
“I’m Bai Xue.”
Bai Feifei was stunned. “Bai Xue?!”
Was it the Bai Xue she knew?
She pushed Fu Xiaoxiao’s big butt out of the way, widening her eyes and looking up.
What she saw was a long, beige dress with a vintage feel. The person had long, straight black hair that shone brightly and fell down her back. She had bangs and wore black-rimmed glasses… She looked a little like Guan Ziyao, whom she had met a few days ago, but Bai Xue was clearly older, in her thirties, and had more presence. She had a softness that came from being polished by time.
Bai Feifei paused. “Can I help you?”
Bai Xue pushed up her glasses, looked at Bai Feifei, and smiled. “I heard you’re terminating your contract with your company, so I’m here to poach you.”
Fang Ning, who had been waiting at the entrance, scoffed and took two steps forward. “What’s the use of signing a cripple? What kind of popularity can she have for the next two months? After her hype dies down, what can she do with her skills? Can she dance or sing?”
“I can act,” Bai Feifei said.
Then she lifted the towel from her legs, hopped twice in place in front of Fang Ning, and reached out her hand to Bai Xue, grinning. “Hello, Sister Bai Xue. My acting is awesome.”
Bai Xue blinked, watching her with a composed look.
Bai Feifei pointed to Fang Ning. “I just tricked two idiots and successfully got my termination contract.”
Fang Ning was speechless.
Guo Kuan, who was eavesdropping upstairs, was also speechless.
In the RV not far away, Ji Meng pulled the curtain closed, laughing so hard that she was hiccuping.
“What other surprises does this little girl have that I don’t know about?” Tears were almost coming out of her eyes from laughing. Then her tone changed. “But I didn’t expect Bai Xue to actually agree to sign her.”
Huo Wu looked out through a small gap in the curtain, then looked at Ji Meng. “What did you offer Bai Xue for her to agree to this?”
“It wasn’t much,” Ji Meng shrugged, looking at Huo Wu thoughtfully. “I gave her an audition for the female lead’s best friend in your next urban drama. The condition is that she will manage Bai Feifei. Isn’t that a great deal?”
Huo Wu said with a cold face, “You’re meddling.”
Ji Meng had long been used to her attitude. She shrugged indifferently, moved from the back to the driver’s seat, and said with a smile, “With your attitude and stubbornness, if I don’t look after you, you’ll probably end up old and alone. I’ve always been curious. That little girl, Bai Feifei, seems smart and perceptive. You haven’t gotten angry or been in a fight with anyone in years, so why do you act like you’re on fire whenever you see her?”
