I Was Sleep-Deprived at a Matchmaking Meeting and Ended Up Engaged - Chapter 9
Day off.
Ayato had come to a wedding venue near the ocean that looked like the Parthenon.
…Why am I doing this? she wondered.
Keiki had brought her here, saying, “You can choose whichever wedding venue you like best. My parents seem to have some trauma from their own wedding, so they said we can do everything exactly as you want.”
Well, actually, it’s not me who said this place is good—it’s my parents.
And Ai-san, weren’t you supposed to be here to stop our marriage?
When did you start sounding like such an understanding mother-in-law? she thought.
But Ai, after drinking heavily yesterday and saying whatever she wanted, seemed to have gotten it out of her system…
Or more like, she’d gotten bored.
“Fine, do whatever you want. It’s not like we’ll be living together even if she becomes my daughter-in-law. You’ll just show me my grandchild’s face once in a while, right? I don’t really care.”
In short, she seemed to have lost interest.
“Mother might not even be in Japan today,” Keiki said something unclear.
Come to think of it, Ayato recalled, that older sister who gave me candy when I was little seemed pretty carefree too.
Well, “older sister.”
By that time, she probably already had several kids.
I don’t know how old she was.
But to a child’s eyes, she just looked like a gorgeous, beautiful older sister.
“Welcome, Shirakami-sama, Fujimiya-sama. I’m Sano, the staff member you specifically requested for some reason.”
A tall, dark-haired handsome man with sharp features greeted them.
Keiki looked at her.
No, um, it was Hanami-chan and the others who made the request.
And even though they specifically asked for him,
“Today I think I’ll pass,” they said and didn’t come.
Ayato felt Keiki looking at her with eyes that said, …Why did you request this handsome guy? and she couldn’t stand it.
Hanami-chan, you should have come!
Then you could get excited seeing this incredibly handsome man!
While trembling with these thoughts, the three of them—Ayato, Keiki, and Sano—had their consultation in a large glass-walled room with a view stretching all the way to the horizon.
“Excuse me for a moment.”
Sano, their assigned staff member, stood up with a smile as his smartphone—which had been on silent mode—rang.
Ayato and Keiki were seriously choosing invitation cards.
“This black and gold one is lovely.”
“Doesn’t it not feel like a wedding?
It looks like an invitation to some party for VIPs.”
“It looks like a secret door might open.”
“The only doors that will open are the church and reception hall doors.”
While listening to their conversation, he spoke by the window.
“Fujimiya-sama, it’s been a long time.
Yes, Ayato-san is here.
They’re a very close couple, yes.
They seem to be enjoying the preparations very much.”
When a female staff member arrived and nodded, she took Ayato and the others to show them dresses.
Since Fujimiya was still talking, Sano followed them, still holding his phone.
While Sano was asking Fujimiya about her recent circumstances, the two were arguing as they looked at dresses.
“Ah, can you hear them over there?” Sano laughed.
“No, I don’t like it.”
“Why not?!”
“If it were you, that simple white and marine blue dress would be perfect for this venue!”
“But this one seems to be the most expensive here.”
When Ayato mentioned it was apparently a dress by a famous designer, Keiki said angrily,
“Whether it’s expensive or not, if it looks best on you, then we have no choice but to get it, right?”
“It doesn’t have to be the one that looks best on me!”
Fujimiya, who overheard their exchange, sounded satisfied.
“I’m looking forward to the ceremony.
You’ll be attending too, Fujimiya-sama, right?
Yes, we’ll be fully prepared and waiting for you.”
Though she couldn’t see him through the phone, Sano smiled and ended the call.
