I Was Sleep-Deprived at a Matchmaking Meeting and Ended Up Engaged - Chapter 11
“Huh, a woman who likes Shirakami-san. Well, I’m sure there are plenty of them.”
During lunch break.
Yuya, who I happened to meet in the relaxation room, said that while standing and drinking coffee across the red circular table.
Since we mostly have desk jobs, standing is more comfortable.
“Even Murakami-san seemed to be one.”
“Ah, that’s right. She seemed to know more about Shirakami-san than I do.”
When Yuya looked doubtful, I added, “Well, she knew Shirakami-san’s surname.”
To which he replied, “Even I know that now.”
Yuya noticed raindrops streaking down the window and commented.
It seemed to be drizzling.
“Ah, it’s raining. For some reason, rain always lifts my mood.”
Looking at Yuya’s face, Ayato muttered, “You’re like moss.”
“…Could you at least try to hide things a little?”
He told me not to say everything I think.
Good grief.
Looks like I can leave early today.
In the evening, when Ayato went down to the lobby, Midori with her radio-like curls—who seemed to have just returned from an errand—said while holding a small cardboard box, “Ah, Ayato~. Someone with a purple umbrella is waiting for you.”
…Not the rose person?
When I went outside, Yoshinori was standing there holding a transparent purple umbrella.
“Wh-what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I was just in the area. I tried calling you.”
“Ah, I’m sorry! I had it on silent mode earlier and forgot.”
“No, that’s fine. When I thought about calling, I wasn’t sure if it was a good time. If possible, I’d like to know where I can send you messages.”
Though I thought he could just send a text message to my phone number, Ayato gave him his messaging app ID.
“Alright then,” Yoshinori said and left just like that.
…What did he come here for? As Ayato watched him leave, Midori grinned beside him.
“My, my, my~ Don’t you think he just made up some reason because he wanted to see your face even for a little? How lovey-dovey~”
“Th-that’s not…” Ayato started to say when someone firmly grabbed his shoulder.
It was Hamako.
“I won’t forgive you. Marrying Shirakami-san.”
Where did she come from all of a sudden…?
“I’ve been watching Shirakami-san way longer than you! Well, I did think it probably wouldn’t work out between me and Shirakami-san.”
Surprisingly humble, aren’t you?
Though I don’t really think that’s the case. Ayato looked at Hamako, who was dressed cutely again today.
“But still, I wish it had been someone I didn’t know. You know what I mean, right?”
It wasn’t Ayato but Midori who responded to Hamako’s plea, saying, “I get it!”
“For example, if a handsome guy in your class gets taken by some girl you kinda know from the same school, it’s annoying! If he were dating a beautiful childhood friend from a completely different faraway school, you’ve never seen her, you don’t know her. You’ll probably never meet her in the future either. Ah, I see. You’d just go ‘huh’ and that’d be it. But if it’s someone you’ve known before, it kinda bothers you.”
“I get it!” Hamako and Midori who had switched the cardboard box to her other hand firmly shook hands.
Well, I did see Shirakami-san with a beautiful woman I’d never seen before yesterday, and it kinda irritated me.
Is my heart that narrow…?
Just as Ayato thought that, Hamako suddenly turned to face him.
“It would’ve been better if you were some unknown person from far away too! If Shirakami-san had an arranged marriage with some young lady from somewhere, I could’ve just gone ‘huh’ and been done with it. So you, go far away right now!”
She was being unreasonable.
“…Well, since you already know who it is, wouldn’t that be pointless?” Yuya, who had appeared from nowhere, said with a wry smile.
