I Was Just a Scumbag Extra, But She Loved Me Anyway [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 42
“…What did you just say?”
Pei Nanxu leaned slightly into Su Chenli’s arms, a bit dazed as she mumbled. Her voice was so soft it almost disappeared beneath the sound of both their heartbeats.
Su Chenli rested her chin on Pei Nanxu’s shoulder, stubbornly holding her close. She gently bit the back of Pei Nanxu’s neck as she whispered, “I said, look at me—I’m the one who’s best for you. I never intended to follow Cheng Xi’s plans. I only want you. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Beta or an Omega. And what can Yu Xi give you anyway? She can’t even make up her mind—her head’s still full of Chu Ningxin.”
Pei Nanxu listened in silence, her expression blank. She didn’t even know why she felt so heartbroken—but suddenly, a tear rolled down her cheek without warning.
The closeness, the dim light—everything felt strangely familiar. It was as if she had once embraced someone in this exact same atmosphere.
She could vaguely hear the sound of falling rain in her ears. Even the air felt damp. For a moment, she was back in that small, rain-soaked space… the memory of falling in love for the first time vivid and undeniable. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall who had been beside her—or see that person’s face clearly.
Pei Nanxu blinked slowly, a faint memory surfacing. It might’ve been… this same person. The one she’d been searching for all this time. The one who had once kissed the back of her neck, just like this.
“Have I… seen you somewhere before?” Her voice trembled, laced with the sound of tears. A wave of something—something deeper than a Beta should be capable of—was stirring within her, spreading through her body as she instinctively clutched Su Chenli’s shirt.
Su Chenli froze, her irritation from moments ago instantly vanishing.
…Was she finally remembering?
Had Nanxu finally remembered her?
Su Chenli’s heart pounded uncontrollably. She pulled back slightly, looking down at Pei Nanxu, afraid it was all just her imagination—a false hope she’d projected onto the moment.
But Pei Nanxu was looking back at her.
Her usually cool, beautiful eyes were glassy with tears, filled with a painful, tangled yearning. A complicated struggle flickered behind her gaze.
In that moment, her body remembered more than her mind.
Even knowing this woman was technically half her boss, even knowing that one wrong move would only make her seem like someone who came to the Su family to exchange beauty for wealth—Pei Nanxu still moved on instinct. She hooked her arms around Su Chenli’s shoulders and kissed her.
She had been searching for too long—for this person who haunted her heart, whose face she couldn’t see, whose memory never faded, who made her chest ache just to think of.
She couldn’t wait any longer.
She needed to know—if this truly was the one she had longed for, would kissing her feel as right as she imagined?
Their lips met.
Su Chenli didn’t even have time to react. Pei Nanxu pushed her back until she hit the wall. Caught off guard, she heard Nanxu whisper, breathless and a little desperate:
“Kiss me.”
Two words—burning hot, like a falling star—scorched straight through Su Chenli’s self-control.
Without thinking, she pulled Pei Nanxu close. Reason gave way to instinct. Her fingers moved with practiced ease to find the buttons of Pei Nanxu’s shirt. She was ready to surrender to the moment—until her fingertips brushed the fabric beneath and felt the burning heat of Nanxu’s body.
That temperature—blazing hot—startled Su Chenli enough to snap her out of it. Her hand flinched, and she immediately released her hold on Pei Nanxu.
Pei Nanxu paused, surprised, and looked at her with confusion. “What… are you doing?”
Su Chenli looked at Pei Nanxu, struggling to suppress the wave of emotion surging inside her. She took a deep breath.
Something wasn’t right. The situation felt off—she needed to stay calm.
Why had Nanxu suddenly kissed her? What triggered it? And why was her body so hot? Her reasoning didn’t seem fully present either…
Sensing Su Chenli’s hesitation, Pei Nanxu stiffened slightly. Her cool, beautiful eyes dimmed with disappointment as she looked up at her. Her lips, flushed and still damp from Su Chenli’s kiss, trembled slightly as she asked, breathless and unsteady:
“Didn’t you say you only wanted me? Was that a lie…? Then why won’t you kiss me?”
Su Chenli couldn’t help but glance at Nanxu’s lips again. The moment she realized what she was doing, she looked away in a panic. Her gaze darted nervously around the dim hallway, and she swallowed hard before saying, “You… you’re not acting like yourself right now. Are you—wait!”
“Stop talking,” Pei Nanxu whispered, her voice weak. She was clearly feverish, her body swaying as she leaned into Su Chenli’s arms. Taking advantage of the buttons Su Chenli had undone earlier, she slid her shirt aside, exposing her slender, pale neck and a smooth, bare shoulder. “Let’s just get through this… then talk.”
Su Chenli caught a glimpse of her shoulder strap and gasped, yanking the shirt closed again in a panic. She looked around quickly, her heart racing.
Thankfully, Cheng Xi had assumed both Su Chenli and her father wouldn’t be home today. To have a “private conversation” with Pei Nanxu, she’d given most of the household staff the day off. The villa was nearly empty, and no one was likely to walk by.
Pei Nanxu was burning up—clearly unable to bear it much longer. She tugged at Su Chenli’s sleeve, her voice low and shaky. “Is it that you just don’t want to be with me…?”
Before she could say more, Su Chenli pressed a hand gently over her mouth to stop her. “You… we… forget it, let’s go upstairs!”
There was no way they could stay here. What if someone walked in?
Pei Nanxu tugged at Su Chenli’s sleeve again—whether in agreement or confusion wasn’t clear—but Su Chenli didn’t wait to find out. She half-carried, half-supported Nanxu as they staggered down the hallway, doing their best to stay quiet despite their chaotic footsteps.
Su Chenli clumsily gathered the front of Nanxu’s loose shirt, trying to hold it together as she helped her into the elevator. The doors had barely closed when Pei Nanxu pressed herself against her.
Su Chenli froze.
The soft lines of Nanxu’s body pressed up against hers, and suddenly Su Chenli wasn’t sure which of them was burning up. Her head spun, and the elevator’s air felt hot and suffocating—like someone had turned up the heat.
For a moment, reason vanished.
They kissed again, bodies tangled against the elevator wall.
Pei Nanxu leaned back against the door, her eyes closed, lips parted, kissing Su Chenli with an intensity that made her forget her name—forget which world she even belonged to. The elevator dinged and the doors slid open, but Nanxu lost her balance. She would’ve fallen if Su Chenli hadn’t caught her in time.
Not that Su Chenli was much steadier. She was barely holding onto her composure, guiding Nanxu across the hallway. Arms wrapped around each other, they stumbled into the room.
A light, feminine blouse fluttered to the floor, left behind just outside the door.
Su Chenli’s room was spacious. Along the path from the doorway to the bed, high heels, an A-line skirt, earrings, and undergarments were scattered across the floor like petals in a trail.
A pair of slender, pale legs peeked out from under the sheets, the skin so fair it almost seemed to glow. Her feet arched and flexed in the air with small, involuntary movements.
Pei Nanxu lay tangled in the soft bedding, her usually cool eyes now glistening with the trace of tears. Her lips were bitten to keep back the sounds threatening to escape, her gaze dazed and distant, fixed on the ceiling.
The scent of Alpha pheromones filled the room—but there was no matching Omega scent in return.
Pei Nanxu could clearly feel it now—Su Chenli’s pheromones were stirring, growing more intense in the air. Her own gland felt uncomfortable, aching in a way that made her long to be marked.
The medical tests the Cheng family had arranged years ago had been accurate—she was always meant to differentiate into an Omega. But to avoid being used, she had secretly suppressed her differentiation all this time, choosing to remain a Beta.
Until now, she had never imagined that not being able to be marked could feel so unbearable.
She wanted Su Chenli. She wanted to be close to her in every possible way. But as a Beta who hadn’t differentiated, her body simply couldn’t form a bond. She couldn’t give or receive a mark.
All Su Chenli’s pheromones were doing now was making her want more.
“…Ah—” Pei Nanxu suddenly flinched, her body jerking slightly as if something had hurt.
“What’s wrong? Did I hurt you?” Su Chenli quickly leaned down, her voice filled with concern.
Pei Nanxu took a few shallow breaths, then looked at her.
“What happened?” Su Chenli asked again, watching her closely.
Pei Nanxu thought back to what Su Chenli had said downstairs. Come to think of it, they had never officially defined their relationship.
Were Su Chenli’s words real? Or were they influenced by memories from another timeline—fragments of a past she couldn’t remember clearly?
“…It’s nothing,” Pei Nanxu whispered.
She raised her arms and wrapped them around Su Chenli’s neck, pulling her in close and kissing her again, soft and breathless. “Just… be rougher.”
Su Chenli froze for a second. Her breathing grew heavier.
How could anyone stay calm after hearing something like that?
No normal person could.
With one smooth motion, Su Chenli reached up and pulled the bed canopy down, shielding their entangled figures in darkness.
The thick fabric blocked out most of the light, and inside the bed canopy it was dim and quiet. Pei Nanxu slowly sat up, still a little dazed.
The broken flashes of memory from earlier had mostly faded, leaving only faint traces. The world she lived in now was starting to feel solid again. She still had business to take care of—two partnerships to finalize, an important meeting in the morning, and a report to deliver directly to President Su… Oh, and she’d promised to help Yu Xi get away from Chu Ningxin.
There was something else too…
Right—Cheng Xi had come looking for her again, trying to push her into taking drugs to trigger her differentiation and seduce Su—
Wait… no.
Something even more serious had happened after that.
The fatigue hit her all at once. Her waist and legs ached. Certain places felt sore in a way she couldn’t ignore. As the sensations settled in, Pei Nanxu bit her lip in embarrassment, her face flushed. She pulled her legs together without thinking, as if that could erase what had happened.
But the memories came rushing back anyway—how she and Su Chenli had stumbled upstairs, how they ended up like this…
Especially after Su Chenli pulled the canopy shut…
Pei Nanxu couldn’t help but think—Su Chenli really had a surprising number of tricks up her sleeve.
Trying to keep a straight face, she turned her head, ears burning red, and glanced at Su Chenli sleeping next to her.
She had just declared that she would never differentiate into an Omega to seduce anyone in the Su family.
And now she had gone and slept with the Su family’s heir.
…What was she going to do now?
