- I Was Happy to Be Dumped by My Fiancé, But Something Seems Off
- Episode 19 - Inanna, Terror
“I suppose I should get a bit more serious too~”
Inanna, who had been sinking into the sofa from drinking too much wine, left the High Priest’s room and headed toward the chapel, still wearing her disheveled priestly robe that barely covered her chest. She floated lights to illuminate only specific areas of the completely dark chapel. On the ceiling was painted a depiction of the goddess Maria and her beloved child granting happiness to people and being adored. At the deepest part of the chapel stood a bronze statue of the goddess Maria.
She was well aware that her appearance was unbecoming of the cathedral’s highest authority, but she had maintained this style for years and had no intention of changing it now.
Sitting on a pew, she called out “Please come in” even though no one else was there. The one who appeared at the entrance was Inanna’s assistant, Alistair. Though in his mid-thirties, he had a youthful appearance, and he scolded Inanna for her indecent appearance, even though it was night. While sighing in exasperation, he finished his scolding and moved to the main topic.
“As you predicted, Lady Inanna, it seems the Annaloro Duke plans to protest to the royal family tomorrow to have Lady Bertina returned.”
“And?”
“It appears the Moldio Duchess remained for a while even after you left. The Moldio Duke came to pick her up just an hour ago.”
“What about the Moldio Duchess’s movements?”
“Thank goodness Lady Bertina isn’t here.”
When Alistair created a sphere of light, a certain scene was projected.
Crow, with hollow amethyst eyes, repeatedly kissing Agnes.
Though Agnes had both hands placed on Crow’s face, Crow wasn’t touching Agnes at all. He was completely passive.
“Seeing this, it’s clear he’s not completely charmed.”
“But he’s not resisting?”
“When someone is completely charmed in their heart, they perform actions the other desires without needing charm magic. Agnes-chan probably wants Crow-kun to hug her tightly. But Crow-kun remains passive with Agnes-chan. Despite his eyes being hollow from long-term charm effects, the fact that he doesn’t move means he’s been continuously resisting.”
“You say that, but considering his behavior toward Lady Bertina, it’s hard to believe.”
“…This is just my opinion, but I think Crow-kun might have been under a powerful, long-term charm.”
Agnes adores her biological brother Crow as a member of the opposite sex. Simply charming him wasn’t enough to bring him under her control, so she applied stronger charm magic to make him do as she wished.
Alistair called out to Inanna, who was deep in thought, repeatedly placing and removing her right index finger from her chin, his voice mixed with strong impatience. When she responded in her usual leisurely tone, he urged her to look at the light sphere.
Beside the two repeatedly kissing was Bertina’s mother, Katarina. She was watching their kisses with a pleased expression.
“Impossible…”
“Does Agnes-chan like being watched?”
“So, the Annaloro Duchess has also fallen victim to the charm.”
“Yes, that’s right. Hmm… Agnes-chan does like being watched.”
“Lady Inanna?”
“Hmm? Oh, sorry. I was thinking about Agnes-chan’s punishment. Since Agnes-chan seems to like Crow-kun… Alistair, gather lots of blond boys for me later.”
“Whaaat?!”
Alistair let out a startled cry at Inanna’s bizarre request. Trembling with fear, when he asked what she planned to do, Inanna ordered him to gather at least ten handsome blond boys for her post-mission entertainment.
As the next person appeared, they focused their gaze on the sphere.
It was Moldio Duke Luigi. With his brown hair smoothed back and eyes of the same color, he gazed affectionately at Agnes, who was engrossed in kissing, and when he called out to her, Agnes kissed Crow’s cheek before jumping into Luigi’s arms.
Alistair felt nothing but terror at the frightening power of the charm magic and found it disgusting. When he glanced at Inanna, thinking she was watching with enjoyment, he was shocked for a different reason.
Even that Inanna had her mouth twisted and eyes wide open.
“L-Lady Inanna? What’s wrong?”
“…Alistair. Please investigate whether Luigi Moldio is human or not.”
“Yes?!”
“I can’t find any traces of him being affected by the charm magic at all.”
His appearance as he cherished his wife Agnes with clear, beautiful brown eyes might be that of an ideal husband, but having just witnessed her engaged in intense kissing with her own brother, Inanna couldn’t believe her eyes.
After receiving Inanna’s explanation, Alistair immediately ran off. Left alone in the chapel, Inanna crushed the light sphere and slumped onto the pew.
She had immediately recognized Argent as a demon. When he entered the cathedral, he hadn’t even tried to hide his demonic magic power. When she learned he was with a human girl, she had been wary that he might be planning to use humans as prey, but there was no sign of him feeding on anyone. After observing for a while, she was astonished to learn he was living leisurely as that girl’s servant. He could live much more luxuriously and comfortably in the demon world, she thought.
Preparations to break the charm on the king would begin tomorrow morning. Just when she was troubled by being forced to accept incompetent noble sons and daughters into the cathedral’s priesthood, the charm incident had conveniently occurred. The cathedral wasn’t a place to take in noble children with nowhere to go. If they wanted to do something about them, they could send them to rural areas short on manpower, or to monasteries, or arrange marriages.
“Before that, I need to evacuate Bertina-chan and the demon prince. Good thing there’s a perfect place for it.”
She considered several reasons why Agnes might be targeting Bertina, who closely resembled Crow. Whatever she thought of, they were all utterly despicable.
All she could do was hope her predictions were wrong.
