I Was Forced to Become the Demon King's Succubus Lover - Chapter 4
When the teleportation array activated, it felt as though a piece of flesh had been violently torn from his body. The severed tendons in his limbs sent sharp waves of pain shooting through him. At that moment, Su Sheng finally abandoned his usual cold and indifferent expression, revealing a flicker of agony.
It really hurt…
When was the last time he had been in such a wretched state?
He couldn’t remember.
As the blinding white light faded, Su Sheng stared blankly at the sky, but within moments, he realized something was wrong.
The tree branches in his vision were tall but twisted, the surroundings bizarre and surreal. Faint howls of beasts echoed nearby, sending chills down one’s spine, yet this did not unsettle him.
What truly unsettled him was the sky, a pure, unbroken black, devoid of moon or stars, as if an endless darkness could swallow you whole.
Only the night sky of the Abyss was like this.
For it was a place tainted by evil, forsaken by the gods.
Here gathered three-quarters of the demons on the continent. Even after the God of Light fell into slumber, the light-aligned races of the continent were powerless to intervene, giving rise to demonic city-states.
Seven great demonic city-states, mingled with undead, succubi, vampires, werewolves, fallen elves, necromancers, and countless other minor demonic races.
And one castle belonging to the Demon King.
Su Sheng lay helplessly on the ground. This was really bad, he thought.
If it were his former self, he wouldn’t have felt fear even facing the Demon King himself. But now…
Glancing at his severed tendons in his hands and feet, he closed his eyes in despair.
In his current state, he couldn’t even defeat the lowest-tier demon, let alone the Demon King.
What should he do next? It seemed there was nothing he could do.
Had he not struggled hard enough to survive? Was this still the outcome?
Su Sheng lay there quietly, gazing silently at the pitch-black sky before him.
Suddenly, he let out a low, soft laugh.
Really, how had his spirit grown so fragile just because his body was injured?
If betrayal and sacrifice couldn’t break him, what was being teleported to the Abyss?
Hadn’t he experienced such things countless times before? Injured to the point of being unable to walk, dragging himself out of mountains of corpses with his arms, or clinging to vines for three days without daring to close his eyes to evade demons. Before becoming the Saint, he had often found himself in perilous situations like this, all to meet the world’s expectations and seize the chance to possibly kill the Demon King.
Now, he no longer had to live to fulfill others’ expectations, but that didn’t mean he was ready to give up on himself.
Rather than lying here waiting for death, he might as well gamble, use his blood to draw another teleportation array.
Though the scent of blood would attract nearby demons, if he was fast enough, he should be able to leave before they arrived.
No time to waste.
Su Sheng used his body to slowly scrape out a circle on the ground. To prevent the blood from clotting too quickly, he ground his wrists against the rough gravel, then painstakingly drew the array bit by bit.
Unfortunately, Lady Luck seemed particularly unkind to Su Sheng. Just as he was about to finish the array, a series of footsteps sounded at the last moment.
“What creature has blood this fragrant?”
A creature with a dragging tail and sharp horns on its head, resembling a human, approached. Upon seeing Su Sheng, it let out an excited shriek:
“A human! It’s actually a human!”
Su Sheng took a deep breath, closed his eyes briefly, then turned his head to look. Meeting the other’s greedy, ravenous purple eyes, his heart sank.
It was a succubus.
The succubus was also taken aback, but after sweeping her gaze over Su Sheng’s face, her eyes practically lit up, and her tail began to thump the ground incessantly:
“To think I’d encounter such a beautiful human, is this a reward from the Lord of the Abyss?”
The succubus approached him step by step. Su Sheng, lying on the ground, subtly concealed most of the magic circle’s traces while quietly reciting an incantation. Perhaps the succubus was too excited, as she failed to notice the exposed portion.
The succubus’s long, sharp nails reached for Su Sheng’s clothes. Had she been more observant, she would have noticed that although this human appeared utterly helpless, his eyes were icy cold.
Taking advantage of the succubus’s diverted attention, he quickened the pace of his incantation.
By now, the succubus had approached, ready to strip his clothes.
“Ah, what is this?! My hand!!”
Suddenly, a flash of cold light sliced through the air, and the hand the succubus had extended was cleanly severed.
He may have been immobilized, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t use magic. No matter how his circumstances changed, his bloodline would never betray him.
A low-level succubus like this, a few incantations were enough to sever its hand, though that was all he could manage.
Before Su Sheng could catch his breath, he heard footsteps again.
Not good, another one.
He stopped reciting the incantation and turned to look at the newcomer.
The newcomer wore a hood, held a staff, and had a skeletal frame, a necromancer!
At the same time, the succubus also noticed the necromancer. Clutching her severed hand, she took a few steps back, her purple eyes filled with venomous hatred, though she dared not act recklessly. She spat, “What wretched luck!”
“I sense a dense aura of holy power. Such delicious blood, only one person in the entire continent possesses it. Isn’t that right, my old friend, Norton Similias?”
Old friend?
Did this person know him?
Su Sheng searched his memory but couldn’t recall this individual. He could only ask expressionlessly, “Who are you?”
The necromancer’s face twisted with rage:
“You! It was you who drove me out of the kingdom, forcing me to flee into the abyss and become a despised undead! You, who deserve to die a thousand deaths! I became like this because of you, and you don’t even remember me?”
“……”
Su Sheng said nothing, but his silence spoke volumes.
The necromancer was half-mad with fury, but after a moment, he regained his composure. “Look at you now, Norton, lying on the ground like a dead fish, unable to do anything, yet still daring to provoke me. Truly worthy of being this generation’s Saint. I heard you defeated the Demon King? Oh my, how did you end up lying here?”
So talkative.
Su Sheng wanted to roll his eyes but restrained himself. He had already provoked the necromancer enough, his goal was achieved. Pushing further might backfire and even disrupt his plans.
The necromancer continued to ramble: “Who would have thought our Holiness would become a useless cripple who can’t even lift the holy sword? Rather than dying here, why not give me all that holy blood of yours? Let me become the Holiness instead, what do you say?”
Su Sheng remained silent, mentally calculating the time. When he felt it was about right, he tilted his head to look to the side.
The howls from nearby were growing more frequent, but clearly, the necromancer hadn’t yet grasped the severity of the situation.
Just as the lich raised his staff to cast a spell, a wolf suddenly appeared, leaping forward and snatching the staff away.
The lich mage froze for a second.
Everything happened too quickly and too coincidentally. The succubus couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter nearby.
The lich glared at her. “You dare mock me?!”
“Ji Er, you shouldn’t keep such a delicious treat all to yourself.”
The wolf behind him transformed into a human form in an instant and walked over.
Su Sheng curled the corner of his mouth as he observed the situation.
Just as he had predicted, the longer he dragged things out, the more demons would arrive, making it easier to slip through the chaos unnoticed.
“Oh! It’s you! Tan Fu, what? Are you trying to steal this human from me too?”
“Dear Ji Er, I believe finders keepers, don’t you?”
“Yes, you can’t hog it all to yourself.”
The succubus chimed in from the side.
…
While the three demons argued over his ownership, Su Sheng seized the opportunity to continue secretly drawing the magic circle.
“Enough. The longer we argue, the more demons will show up.”
The werewolf concluded.
This conclusion seemed to gain the demons’ approval. As all three turned their attention toward Su Sheng, they caught him in the act of secretly drawing the circle.
The lich mage shouted, “Stop him! He’s drawing a teleportation circle!”
“Tsk.”
Damn it, he’d been discovered. Just a few more minutes! Su Sheng’s expression darkened.
The teleportation circle was only a few strokes away from completion, but if he were to change it into a summoning circle, it would only take one more stroke.
Activating a light summoning circle required several conditions, but the most crucial one was the circle’s completion.
Should he gamble?
He would gamble.
The werewolf lunged toward his neck, while the lich mage cast a spell at Su Sheng.
Enduring the piercing pain, Su Sheng made one final stroke, completing the circle.
At that moment, the werewolf’s fangs were already at Su Sheng’s neck.
He had no idea whether this light summoning circle would work.
Holding his breath, his gaze fixed on the werewolf’s sharp teeth right before his eyes. His skin had already been pierced, a slight sting traveling up his nerves. He closed his eyes lightly. Had it failed?
Was he really going to fall in this world?
How would he face the hopeful employees of the Quick Transmigration Bureau?
This time, it seemed he was going to let them down.
But the expected pain never came. Su Sheng opened his eyes to see the werewolf’s head rolling on the ground.
In front of him, a figure stood with its back to him, confronting the lich and the succubus.
Su Sheng couldn’t help but freeze.
Had he been saved?
The next second, he froze again.
There was actually a human in this place?
But there was no denying that this human’s combat techniques were breathtakingly beautiful, and his fighting prowess was impressive. Within a few moves, he had subdued both the lich mage and the succubus.
After killing the two demons, the human sheathed his sword and walked over. Only then did Su Sheng get a clear look at his face.
He had a pair of sapphire-blue eyes, deep and unfathomable like the ocean. A few strands of short golden hair fluttered in the wind before his forehead, adding a touch of sensuality to his appearance. His features seemed carved by the gods themselves, sharp and handsome. The dazzling golden crown atop his head was almost blinding. Su Sheng wondered which kingdom’s prince had ventured into the abyss.
Even someone as proud as Su Sheng had to admit that this human was almost unnaturally handsome, to the point where he seemed less like a human and more like a “non-human” being.
“Hello, my name is Luo Ren.”
Luo Ren bowed to him, appearing extremely courteous.
After scrutinizing this human for a moment, Su Sheng said, “Norton.”
There were countless people named “Norton,” but only one person on the entire continent was called “Norton Simalias.” He deliberately omitted his surname, not wanting others to guess his identity.
After stating his name, Su Sheng narrowed his eyes slightly, quietly observing the man.
Luo Ren seemed to have no reaction upon hearing the name. He smiled and said, “It’s a pleasure to meet you in the Abyss, my companion.”
The other’s attitude temporarily put Su Sheng at ease, but his choice of address made Su Sheng frown.
“I am not your companion,” Su Sheng said. “Thank you for your chivalry. You can leave your address, and I will send ten magic scrolls, twenty vials of holy potions, and some other valuable items as a token of gratitude. But I think you can leave now.”
Su Sheng’s words were clearly too cold and harsh.
The other was visibly taken aback, his expression turning surprised. He glanced at Su Sheng’s severed hands and feet.
“Leave? You mean now? Abandon you here?”
The two locked eyes. Su Sheng looked at him, not saying a word, but his expression clearly confirmed the other’s words. In the end, it was Luo Ren who smiled.
“Oh no, the gods would punish me,” Luo Ren said as he walked over, crouching down to look at Su Sheng. “Let me help you reconnect your severed limbs first, alright?”
Su Sheng fell silent. If he could receive this help, it would be more than welcome, as he truly needed it.
A dense surge of life magic enveloped the areas where Su Sheng’s tendons and bones had been severed, a warm current flowing from his limbs to fill his entire body.
In just a moment, the wounds were mostly healed.
However, Luo Ren’s complexion didn’t look too good.
“Sorry, my life magic isn’t very refined. This is all I can do for now. The rest will have to rely on your own recovery,” Luo Ren said apologetically.
He seemed like a knight, yet he knew a bit of healing magic. Su Sheng guessed.
It wasn’t impossible to study magic as a secondary discipline after choosing the path of a knight, but forcibly practicing magic not only offered no help for one’s future path but could even harm the body, as it couldn’t withstand two types of energy simultaneously.
But since Luo Ren had helped him, Su Sheng couldn’t outright question why he knew magic. In the end, he simply nodded slightly and said, “Thank you.”
“It’s my honor to serve a companion,” Luo Ren said with a slight bow before walking over and extending his hand.
Luo Ren’s hand was broad and slender, with a pleasing shape. There were indeed calluses in certain areas, likely from wielding a sword.
Su Sheng hesitated for a moment before reaching out, grabbing Luo Ren’s hand, and being pulled to his feet.
“I suppose you must be wondering why I came to the Abyss?”
As if reading his mind, Luo Ren looked at him and smiled.
“My family is ill and needs something from the Abyss, so I came here.”
The Abyss did indeed produce medicinal herbs that could cure illnesses, making this reason somewhat plausible.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Su Sheng said, offering a polite remark. After speaking, he felt it would be inappropriate not to repay the other for all the help he had received, so he added,
“Perhaps I can help you.”
Little did he know that this was exactly what the other wanted to hear. Luo Ren’s eyes visibly lit up, but just as he opened his mouth to say something, he was interrupted by two demons pouncing toward them.
Gritting his teeth, Luo Ren drew his sword and swung it forward. Perhaps fueled by anger, the two demons’ heads instantly rolled to the ground with a thud.
“Phew, good thing they were just two low-level demons. Right, Norton? Let’s go together from here.”
Su Sheng didn’t respond, only watching Luo Ren thoughtfully.
This person’s fighting style gave him a strangely familiar feeling.
Luo Ren smiled faintly, subtly sheathing his sword behind his back.
Su Sheng pondered for a long while but couldn’t quite place him, deciding he was just being overly sensitive.
He nodded and walked ahead first.
Thus, he missed Luo Ren’s subtle finger-twirling gesture, identical to the Demon King’s.
