- I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance
- Chapter 62 - Awkwardness
After Qi Xiyao entered, only one Alpha was left to make an appearance.
Everyone was waiting eagerly to see what kind of person this final Alpha would be. Although Zhao Yuan appeared calm, she adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and looked toward the entrance with interest.
As soft, elegant music played, a tall figure gradually came into view. Judging by her appearance, it was clearly a woman.
Her high heels clicked crisply against the floor in a steady rhythm. The first thing that caught everyone’s attention was her graceful silhouette. A gentle spring breeze lifted the tassels draped over her shoulders, creating a soft rustling sound.
The Alpha wore sunglasses. Her face was small and delicate, and her long hair flowed loosely behind her in a striking shade of inky blue. Her fair skin made the bold hair color stand out even more. With her long legs and narrow waist, she was undeniably a stunning woman.
The livestream’s comment section quickly lit up with excitement.
【Could it be the famous ice-cold Alpha, Yan Yu?】
【I don’t think so. Yan Yu has never joined any reality shows. She’s been focused on filming.】
【I’m so nervous. Even Zhao Yuan is sitting up now. She was slouched back on the couch before.】
【Even Qi Xiyao sat up straight. Is she interested in this Alpha too? Haha.】
“Hello, everyone.” The Alpha finally spoke. Her red lips curved slightly into a faint smile before she began talking. But just as she finished her greeting, some faces in the room changed subtly.
After building up anticipation, the Alpha slowly removed her sunglasses.
It was Lu Zhiyao.
Yu Peirong’s hand quietly tightened around the armrest of the sofa. She took a deep breath, then exhaled, loosening her grip. Her initial look of surprise faded into calm indifference.
After all, she was an accomplished actress with excellent emotional control. Her only visible reaction was a slightly faster breath, revealing the tension she had just felt.
Why was Lu Zhiyao here?
Given her unpredictable personality, it was not surprising she would do something like this after finding out Qi Xiyao would be participating. Since the director had instructed that the guest list be kept secret, it had clearly given Lu Zhiyao the perfect chance to insert herself.
Yu Peirong did not believe she had come with good intentions.
It was nothing but trouble.
Lu Zhiyao was not part of the entertainment industry, but she was a public figure with high status. Her presence shocked Gu Jinhua the most. The young screenwriter’s face was still youthful and expressive. Her mouth formed a perfect O shape, showing no effort to hide her surprise.
Lu Zhiyao smiled politely at the others and selected a seat. On the surface, she appeared perfectly proper and composed. She showed none of her eccentricities and chose to sit beside Alpha Du Xi, which was a very polite and unprovocative choice.
Du Xi nodded at her with courtesy. For the moment, the atmosphere remained fairly pleasant.
Now that everyone had arrived, the director of Mystery Heartbeat announced the start of introductions.
Although most of the guests already knew of each other, what really piqued their curiosity was the reason each person had agreed to join a dating show. Compared to previous seasons, this group was clearly more unique. Only a few responses followed the usual format.
Zhao Yuan was the first to speak. She rested her hands on her lap and said casually, “Lately I’ve been trying to write a few sweet love songs to relax, but I’ve had no inspiration. So I signed up for this show.” She glanced briefly at Lu Zhiyao as she continued, “I thought I’d give it a try. And who wouldn’t want to experience that heartbeat-fluttering kind of love?”
In the control room, Analyst A watched the screen closely. He smiled and made a note.
“Zhao Yuan is clearly a direct and assertive Omega. That’s different from most Omegas I’ve seen, who tend to take a passive role in relationships. I think she might be drawn to someone like Lu Zhiyao. Zhao Yuan sees many types of people in her work, but she probably hasn’t encountered someone like this privileged heiress before.”
Another person in the control room added, “Speaking of heiresses, Yu Peirong is also the head of Yishui Entertainment. Zhao Yuan might develop an interest in her too.”
Analyst A shook his head, clearly unimpressed by Yu Peirong.
“Zhao Yuan has a cold and independent personality. Yu Peirong gives off a similar vibe. Didn’t you notice earlier that An Xiaomachi seemed curious about Yu Peirong? She even gave her a meaningful look, but Yu Peirong didn’t acknowledge it at all. She’s definitely the same type as Zhao Yuan. In relationships, people tend to seek balance. They need emotional contrast.”
Compared to that, he believed Lu Zhiyao had more potential to attract attention.
Even if she came off as a natural flirt.
In other words, there was a high chance she would be a heartbreaker.
But this was reality TV. And in the end, it was all about entertainment, wasn’t it?
After a few others gave their introductions, the microphone passed to Gu Jinhua. She was the youthful Alpha with a sweet appearance.
She smiled gently, avoiding Du Xi’s eyes as she took the microphone and spoke brightly.
“Actually, I’m only here because one of our company’s artists was originally scheduled to participate. But there was a last-minute schedule conflict. So, I came in her place.”
She blinked playfully and looked around at the curious or surprised expressions.
“And besides,” she added, “I wanted to experience what love feels like. People keep saying my romance scripts aren’t convincing. So, I figured I should come and try it for myself. Nothing more than that.”
Then it was An Xiaomachi’s turn. She instinctively looked toward her manager off-camera. Then she shrank back slightly and said in a small voice, “I’m just here to make up the numbers. Hope everyone has fun.”
The others burst into laughter. For a moment, the atmosphere became much lighter and more cheerful.
Taking the opportunity, the ever-energetic Du Xi got up and fetched the blank rulebook from the Heartbeat House.
One of the traditions of the show was for guests to agree on certain living arrangements on the first day. This included sharing personal boundaries and habits.
After all, they would be living together for an entire week.
Zhao Yuan glanced at the empty rulebook and said, “There’s nothing I particularly dislike. The only thing I really can’t stand is being controlled. Aside from that, I’m easygoing.”
Her statement quickly won approval from the rest of the group. A few who had thought about mentioning their own limits suddenly felt embarrassed. In this friendly atmosphere, no one wanted to stand out by being overly particular.
Back in the control room, Analyst B rubbed his hands together with excitement.
“This might be the most relaxed season I’ve seen so far. Everyone seems pretty easy to get along with.”
He recalled how last season, just after the six guests had taken their seats, two Alphas had already started arguing. That group was full of drama, and although it made for great television, it was exhausting to manage. Two couples formed that time, but both broke up not long after the show ended.
“Don’t be so sure,” Analyst A said, always the skeptic. “You need to look beyond appearances. Their social status will push them to maintain surface harmony. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be underlying tensions.”
B ignored him this time. He was too absorbed in watching the live feed to argue.
After Gu Jinhua mentioned she had joined the show to “experience romance,” she instinctively glanced at the camera streaming the live broadcast, then glanced at her phone. From that point on, she seemed a little distracted during the rest of the conversation.
The first day of the show was meant for the cast to get to know one another. However, each season of Mystery Heartbeat had a theme. This time, the theme was to open a restaurant together, starting from scratch and earning money on their own. The whole process would last a week.
Unlike other dating shows, Mystery Heartbeat focused on exploring genuine chemistry in realistic situations. After all, when life is easy and full of luxury, romantic sparks are more likely to appear. But when people have to rely on themselves and face everyday challenges, their true personalities start to show.
After some light conversation and a casual tour of the house, the cast headed to their rooms to unpack.
Yu Peirong quickly placed her suitcase in her room but didn’t even open it. Instead, she immediately went to find Qi Xiyao.
She helped Qi Xiyao organize her things, sorting everything based on the way Qi Xiyao liked it at home. They both knew each other’s habits inside and out.
Yu Peirong worked efficiently. After finishing, she stepped out of the room—only to find Du Xi wandering aimlessly nearby, lingering just outside the door.
His face was slightly red, as if he had been struggling with how to approach. When he spotted Yu Peirong, he froze, and his expression immediately turned awkward. He stepped aside and made way, looking embarrassed.
The livestream’s comment section erupted with laughter.
【Bro, you’re way too slow!】
【Du Xi is so awkward, by the time you make a move, Peirong and Xiyao will already have kids old enough to buy soy sauce.】
【This proves that e-sports players only have fast hand speed in-game, not in real life romance.】
【Hesitation leads to defeat. Look at Peirong—she doesn’t even talk much, she just takes action. Xiyao, you get what I mean, right?】
【Let’s be real, they’re probably just close friends. If they were really together, would they even come on a dating show? Can’t ship this.】
【Peirong and Xiyao are absolutely real. Haters, get out of this tag.】
Qi Xiyao caught sight of Du Xi lingering outside her door and immediately understood his intentions. But she hadn’t planned to come on a show like this in the first place. She was only here because of a contractual agreement with the director. Backing out wasn’t an option.
So right in front of Du Xi, she turned to Yu Peirong with a smile and asked, “Want me to help you unpack too?”
Watching Du Xi walk away, visibly dejected and embarrassed, Qi Xiyao patted Yu Peirong’s shoulder and went with her to the Alpha floor.
Lu Zhiyao was standing by her door, idly playing with something in her hands. When she saw the two of them approaching together, a faint, playful smile appeared on her lips.
Qi Xiyao was the first Omega to help an Alpha unpack.
But she said nothing, simply watching them enter.
Yu Peirong’s room was decorated much like Qi Xiyao’s. She went to wash her hands while Qi Xiyao, with her permission, opened her suitcase and began organizing everything.
Before coming to the show, Yu Peirong hadn’t paid much attention to how she packed. She usually just tossed things in and dealt with it later. But this time, Qi Xiyao patiently took everything out and sorted it neatly for her.
As Yu Peirong stepped out of the bathroom, she immediately saw Qi Xiyao pulling open a tightly packed zipper compartment. A small corner of something with a cute cat paw design peeked out.
Yu Peirong’s eyes widened.
Wasn’t that the fairy wand she had once secretly hidden to avoid embarrassment, back when she and Qi Xiyao had stayed in a couple’s hotel room together?
Thank goodness the camera crew respected their privacy and didn’t film the inside of their suitcases.
Yu Peirong jumped as if burned, dashed forward, and slammed the lid shut with a loud thud.
