- I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance
- Chapter 44.1 - Heart to Heart
This was undeniably explosive news.
After hearing it, Qi Xiyao was stunned for a long time. At first, she thought Sister Peirong was joking. But when she saw the messages from the assistant on the phone, her emotions immediately became complicated.
Unlike Sister Peirong, who was simply enjoying the drama, Qi Xiyao had truly suffered under Yu Shang’s oppression. He had used every tool at his disposal to suppress her, relying on the power and status of being Yu Litian’s son.
Yu Litian was a wealthy businessman. Although his company wasn’t in the entertainment industry, his influence still reached into it. With his support, Yu Shang had the confidence to treat an Omega however he pleased.
And now, suddenly, the man who had bullied her had lost that fake identity.
Back when Yu Shang had constantly gaslighted her, Qi Xiyao had started to doubt herself. She wondered if she wasn’t good enough, if the reason she couldn’t get opportunities was because she was simply lacking in talent.
It wasn’t until she spent time with Sister Peirong, who quietly supported and encouraged her, that she began to rebuild her confidence.
Just that morning, before they set off, Sister Peirong had told her that once the show ended, there was an invitation from a luxury brand waiting. She made no attempt to hide the fact that the opportunity had come from Yu Litian’s network. But as she put it, after all that he owed them, there was no reason not to use it.
Qi Xiyao was not the type to be overly sentimental. Since someone was willing to connect the dots for her, she gladly accepted.
After all, while getting such opportunities might seem easy, seizing them and making the most of them was still up to her.
Now that the paternity test had revealed Yu Shang was not Yu Litian’s biological child, Yu Litian’s attitude toward Sister Peirong had shifted dramatically. He transferred more money to her account in an effort to patch up their father-daughter relationship. Sister Peirong took the money without hesitation but didn’t offer a single word in return to her so-called grieving father.
When he had stolen the original mother’s inheritance, he hadn’t felt the slightest guilt. Now, this sudden generosity was nothing more than a reaction to discovering that the son he had raised wasn’t even his own. It was emotional impulse, not remorse.
Soon enough, he would likely remember that he could remarry, find another Omega, and have a biological child of his own. When that day came, he would stop pretending to care about Sister Peirong altogether.
Of course, Sister Peirong never needed him to survive or thrive in this world.
“So if Yu Shang isn’t his child, how did Zhou Qianjin pull it off for so long?”
Qi Xiyao sat stunned for quite a while before finally asking, stumbling a bit over her words. She couldn’t suppress her curiosity.
In this world, it wasn’t as simple for an Omega to have a child with just any Alpha. An Alpha’s pheromones had to be injected directly into the Omega’s gland, and the child would be developed within the reproductive cavity.
During that period, the Alpha had to provide constant emotional comfort through pheromones. While intimacy wasn’t always necessary, the scent of the Alpha’s pheromones would certainly linger.
“I’m not sure either. I suppose it’s just one of Zhou Qianjin’s many talents.”
Sister Peirong hadn’t finished reading the novel, and when this plot twist came up, she had thought it was ridiculous. But after thinking it through, she realized there might be some narrative logic behind it.
Since it was a romance novel, the male lead needed to be portrayed as outstanding in some way. If he was going to behave so terribly, there had to be a scapegoat to redeem him.
The author’s intent seemed clear. Part of his behavior was blamed on his manipulative sister, and part on Yu Litian’s influence. In the end, there might even be a dramatic twist where Yu Shang discovers he isn’t really his son and heroically severs ties with him to prove his moral compass.
Of course, this was just Sister Peirong’s speculation. She had never written a novel and had no idea what the author was actually thinking.
One more thing worth noting was that Yu Shang’s biological father remained unknown. Her assistant was already investigating, but no one in the Yu family was likely to spill the truth so easily.
After all, Yu Litian had been unknowingly raising another man’s child for years. It was humiliating, and there was no way he would let the truth get out without a fight.
Even so, this scandal alone was enough to keep the entire industry gossiping for a lifetime. Yu Litian had always cared deeply about his reputation, and now that it was shattered, who knew how messy things would get between him and Zhou Qianjin.
Sister Peirong was more than happy to watch the Yu family descend into chaos. For now, Yu Shang hadn’t fully reacted and was too distracted to bother her.
She even sent Yu Shang a message, her tone gentle and concerned, pretending to be the caring older sister checking in.
Qi Xiyao watched her with quiet amazement. She saw how Sister Peirong, with a warm smile on her face, typed out such convincing words of concern in their chat window. For a moment, she was speechless.
Sister Peirong noticed her silence and looked over after turning off her phone.
“What is it?”
“Nothing really,” Qi Xiyao said quietly. She bit her lip and hesitated before admitting, “It’s just that you’re not quite what I imagined.”
If this had been in the past, Sister Peirong probably would have brushed it off with a casual remark. But now, for some reason, she found herself caring deeply about Qi Xiyao’s opinion. Her heart skipped a beat. She tilted her head slightly and smiled.
“Then do you prefer the me from before or the me now?”
Without realizing it, the two had gotten very close, closer than what most would consider polite personal space. Yet neither of them felt uncomfortable.
As she spoke, Qi Xiyao could even feel Sister Peirong’s breath on her cheek. It was warm, but not like the stifling heat of summer. It was soft, comforting.
“I like the you now.”
Back then, their relationship was far from warm. They certainly couldn’t be called friends. But over time, Qi Xiyao’s opinion of Sister Peirong had changed.
In the past, she always felt Sister Peirong kept too much distance, acting too formal. Now, she was more open, more lively, and far more genuine. Especially when dealing with the Yu family, her sharp, no-nonsense attitude was completely different from what Qi Xiyao had imagined.
Watching her slowly open up, Qi Xiyao felt even closer to her.
Her eyes curved slightly into the shape of crescent moons, sparkling like water under the autumn sun. Her pupils were a light shade, and now, bathed in the glow of sunset, they shimmered like a little deer with glowing antlers. Sister Peirong couldn’t resist and reached out to gently touch her.
Her hand landed on Qi Xiyao’s head, fingers brushing through soft hair. She gave the ponytail a light squeeze.
Qi Xiyao flinched a moment later and playfully pushed her back, and the two of them broke into laughter, teasing each other.
Their hour of phone time passed quickly. Since they had been the top-performing team during the earlier challenge, they exchanged their reward with the crew and left their beach tent behind for a more comfortable wooden cabin.
The cabin was well-equipped, even featuring a small bathtub that could fit one person. There were unopened bath towels and soap, and the bed was just large enough for two, although not exactly spacious.
Sister Peirong lay down to rest for a bit and told Qi Xiyao to shower first. She closed her eyes and tried to relax.
After the long day, she was genuinely tired. But as an Alpha, her physical strength was better than it had been in her previous world. Even so, thoughts of the Yu family lingered in her mind.
Yu Litian was a vindictive man. Even though Yu Shang wasn’t biologically his, they still shared many traits. That was probably why the truth had gone unnoticed for so long.
From the way things looked, Yu Shang had likely not known the truth. But given his personality, he was not the type to reflect on his own faults.
With a little provocation from Zhou Qianjin, he might even come to believe that Yu Litian had wronged him.
Sister Peirong wasn’t someone who showed mercy. Her belief was simple: if others left her alone, she would do the same. But if anyone crossed her, she would never turn the other cheek. Yu Litian and his so-called son had caused real harm. They destroyed her mother’s life, tormented the original body, and even ruined the lives of countless innocent entertainers.
She wasn’t planning to act just yet. Better to watch them tear each other apart for a while.
Three days later
Inside the livestream room of the survival show
After several days together, the survival teams had grown close. The most popular pairing by far was the duo of Qi Xiyao and Sister Peirong.
At first, Sister Peirong didn’t appear much on camera. But after the director noticed how much viewers loved their pairing, he told the crew to focus more on filming her. That was when the audience realized that she was nothing like the spoiled, pampered heiress they had imagined.
She climbed trees to pick fruit, dove into the ocean to catch shrimp and fish, gathered fresh water, and even made fire by rubbing wood together to roast coconuts.
Even covered in sand, she didn’t look clumsy or uncomfortable. If anything, it made her seem even more relatable.
One scene showed her stringing together a necklace for Qi Xiyao using shells she had picked up from the beach.
She had carefully chosen ones with clean patterns, scrubbed away any sand or debris, and made sure they were evenly sized. Though the necklace wasn’t expensive, it carried a charm that perfectly suited life on the island.
In just a few days, the “PeiYao couple” tag had gone viral. Fans opened a trending topic for them and started sharing clips and edits.
In Qi Xiyao’s livestream room, many couple shippers had gathered. Her fans were peaceful and rarely engaged in online arguments. They welcomed newcomers without issue.
Meanwhile, Yu Shang was silently watching the livestream, his face expressionless as the comment section flew by.
When he saw Sister Peirong fixing Qi Xiyao’s hair in the corner of the screen, he instinctively reached up to touch the scar on the left side of his forehead. The jagged wound had been left by Yu Litian the day the truth came out.
Yu Shang had been shocked to learn that he was not Yu Litian’s biological son. But before he could even react, the scent of blood mixed with the sterile hospital air.
Yu Litian had grabbed whatever was nearby and hurled it at him without hesitation. It struck hard. Yu Shang had reached up to find his forehead bloodied and torn.
He wasn’t a true son. The moment the truth came out, Yu Litian’s face changed. He screamed about his mother and beat him with fists and feet.
At first, Yu Shang tried to endure it. But when he couldn’t take it anymore, he slapped Yu Litian back across the face. After shouting a few curses, he released his pheromones and began to fight back with everything he had.
What followed was mutual destruction. Both Yu Shang and Yu Litian ended up hospitalized. While recovering, Yu Litian didn’t let Yu Shang off easily. He contacted his people to cut off all of Yu Shang’s funding and stripped him of all authority. Even the connections and resources that had once supported him were completely severed.
At first, Yu Shang didn’t fully realize how severe the consequences of angering Yu Litian would be.
It wasn’t until his so-called friends began avoiding him with all kinds of excuses that it hit him. He returned to the company still injured, only to find that the Omega who used to cling to him wouldn’t even spare him a smile. The sudden fall from power left Yu Shang furious and humiliated.
What made things worse was seeing Sister Peirong and Qi Xiyao on the survival show, enjoying themselves and showing affection in a way that bordered on romantic. He stormed into the bathroom and dry-heaved from sheer frustration.
He had barely eaten anything, and now he was throwing up bile. Dizzy and nauseous, he collapsed onto the bed and stubbornly pulled out his phone to continue watching their livestream.
When he saw the comment section joking about how the show had turned into a dating series, jealousy burned through him like wildfire. It scorched every corner of his pride.
He wanted nothing more than to storm onto the set and challenge Sister Peirong to a duel. Red-eyed with rage, he watched the two women speaking softly to each other, sitting so close it made his skin crawl.
Qi Xiyao soon left the frame. She had gone to find something to make for dinner. It had been too hot at noon for a proper meal, so Sister Peirong had simply roasted a coconut. But tonight, they needed something more substantial.
In the forest, Qi Xiyao gathered some mushrooms, planning to make mushroom soup to go with grilled chicken. On her way back, she was intercepted by Mu Wenxia, an Alpha contestant, who blocked her path with a cheerful smile.
Mu Wenxia chatted and flirted a little too much, even grabbing at Qi Xiyao’s arm now and then. But despite Sister Peirong not being by her side, Qi Xiyao held her ground.
She was not the fragile flower Yu Shang had imagined her to be. Mu Wenxia was clearly interested in her supplies. In this game, resources could be taken from others, as long as no one was seriously injured.
Qi Xiyao skillfully dodged Mu Wenxia’s reach. She talked with her calmly while maneuvering around her. When Mu Wenxia tried to pounce, Qi Xiyao gracefully bent backward and slipped away.
Mu Wenxia hadn’t expected her to be so flexible. Qi Xiyao rolled across the ground and sprayed her with a water gun, hitting her right in the face. Caught off guard, Mu Wenxia stepped back, giving Qi Xiyao the opening to escape.
She darted off like a rabbit and quickly disappeared.
Watching all this, Yu Shang’s expression darkened.
He had always believed that Sister Peirong had corrupted Qi Xiyao. But now, he realized this woman was not who he thought she was.
Truthfully, he preferred Omegas who were soft and fragile, ones who needed protection from their Alpha. Strong, independent Omegas like Qi Xiyao were threatening to that fantasy. They didn’t make him feel powerful.
Watching her dash back toward Sister Peirong, mushrooms in hand, only to lose her balance and be caught basket and all, only made his blood boil. The way the fans gushed in the comments about their chemistry made his chest ache.
He had cursed Sister Peirong in his heart countless times, but there was nothing he could do now. He had completely lost Yu Litian’s favor.
Worse still, his mother had called just minutes ago and told him to calm down and go apologize to Yu Litian. She urged him to cry a little and try to win back sympathy. Under no circumstances should he let Sister Peirong gain the upper hand.
In the past, Yu Shang might have actually tried that. But now, Yu Litian had turned so completely against him that he had even struck him.
Thinking about the bruises on his body, Yu Shang—who had been pampered his whole life—could not bring himself to grovel. He’d rather die on his feet than live on his knees.
**
Five days and four nights later, the survival variety show ended. Sister Peirong and Qi Xiyao topped the popularity charts, and the production team promised a surprise reward for Qi Xiyao afterward.
As soon as she had her phone back, Sister Peirong saw a flood of messages from Yu Litian. Even the family butler had reached out to request a private meeting.
Since it wasn’t far, and since this was a perfect chance to stir the pot further, Sister Peirong happily accepted and went to meet them.
Once there, the butler pulled her aside for a private conversation that lasted half an hour.
Through him, she got a clearer picture of what was going on.
After learning that Yu Shang wasn’t his biological son, Yu Litian had fought him. Two Alphas clashing left both injured. Yu Shang recovered faster due to his youth.
What shocked Yu Litian most was that Yu Shang’s pheromones could overpower his own. Once, he might have felt proud, thinking his son had surpassed him. But now, all he felt was fury.
