I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 35
Yu Peirong let out a cold laugh.
“Are you seriously ill? You should go to the hospital and get your delusions checked.”
As expected, the longer you deal with someone, the harder it is for them to hide their true nature. Once she sensed danger, Yu Peirong didn’t bother being polite to Yu Shang. Not only did she refuse to open the door, but she also scolded him harshly.
Yu Shang was embarrassed and furious, his face flushed with anger. But he could do nothing about Yu Peirong. He paced outside her home like a rooster ready for a fight, eyes red with rage. Finally, he shouted angrily before leaving.
“You think you’re so important, don’t you, Yu Peirong? You handed the company over to your cousin as if I, your own brother, never mattered. I heard Lu Zhiyao is pretty satisfied with you. Whether you’re an Alpha or an Omega, you still have to go meet him.”
“Are you done talking?”
Yu Peirong glanced up slightly. In the video, Yu Shang’s face was twisted with emotion, breathing heavily, eyes locked on the camera. But the next second, Yu Peirong ended the call without hesitation.
She had no interest in continuing the argument and didn’t even know why Yu Shang had suddenly come to her acting like a madman. After he lingered at the door for a while and eventually left without success, Yu Peirong turned on the security cameras around her villa. Once she confirmed he was really gone, she tidied up and headed out.
She had only just reached the main road when she noticed a car quietly following her from behind.
Yu Peirong first drove around the city for a while until she managed to lose the strange car. Only then did she continue toward the mental health center.
Her appointment was scheduled for one o’clock in the afternoon, but she arrived an hour early, right around lunchtime.
The mental health facility was located in the mountains. Its usual quiet was interrupted by the lively sounds of mealtime. The clanging of pots and dishes filled the air. A woman sat at the doorway of her room, basking in the sun, holding a lunch box. Her face was blank as she poked at the black rice with wooden chopsticks.
Looking more closely, the woman was actually quite beautiful.
She had naturally charming almond-shaped eyes. Even without makeup, the soft curves of her features were clear. Though she wasn’t smiling, there was still a gentle aura about her. However, her eyes were cold and empty, as if all her emotions had long since been drained. She looked like a puppet without a soul.
Yu Peirong quietly walked over. She wore sunglasses and a mask, unsure of whether the original version of herself had done anything terrible to this woman. To prevent Xu Xiaoqi from getting upset at the sight of her, she came prepared.
She said nothing, simply stood at a distance and watched for a moment in silence.
When Xu Xiaoqi still didn’t move or eat and only stared off into the distance, Yu Peirong finally asked the nurse beside her,
“Has she always been like this?”
“Yes. Ever since she last saw you, she’s become more sensitive,” the nurse replied, clearly worried. “Sometimes, she even acts aggressively and pushes people away.”
Yu Peirong wanted to ask whether the Alpha who was said to be compatible with Xu Xiaoqi had ever visited, but she stopped herself. The question felt too awkward.
Xu Xiaoqi was extremely thin, almost frighteningly so. Her skin clung to her bones, making her look as if she could collapse at any moment. Just looking at her stirred feelings of sorrow and compassion.
A few minutes later, staff came to collect the meals. In order to keep her from starving, someone fed her a few spoonfuls by force.
The facility itself seemed very nice, especially the room Xu Xiaoqi stayed in. It looked clean, comfortable, and well lit. But her mental condition was clearly very poor.
“Can I go over to her?”
Yu Peirong asked. The nurse hesitated, unsure if it was safe to let her go alone. But Yu Peirong insisted.
“Last time you came, she did not show any signs of aggression,” the nurse said. “Her mental state has improved a little recently, but you should still take precautions. This is a communicator. Press the button if you need help.”
Yu Peirong accepted the communicator and slowly walked over.
The moment she stepped into Xu Xiaoqi’s space, the woman’s eyes locked onto her. She stared intensely at the sudden intruder.
When Yu Peirong removed her sunglasses, Xu Xiaoqi, who had been sitting motionless like a lifeless doll, suddenly lit up with energy. She cried out in surprise,
“A-Pei…”
Yu Peirong paused.
A-Pei was the original owner’s childhood nickname. Her name had once been Yu Peirong, but her father later changed the middle character to “Pei” meaning abundance and prosperity, thinking it sounded more refined.
Not many people knew that nickname. Only those who were very close to her would know. In that instant, Yu Peirong saw trust and deep, complicated emotion in Xu Xiaoqi’s eyes.
Xu Xiaoqi staggered forward. Under the bright sunlight, her thin body looked even weaker. As she got closer, Yu Peirong noticed her bony wrists under the hospital gown. She was so thin that her clothes looked empty on her. How could this be the same woman who used to be called a “walking clothes hanger” and admired as a top model?
“A-Pei came to see me. She really came…”
Xu Xiaoqi clapped her hands like a child, her eyes filled with joy. She even drooled slightly, but Yu Peirong was not bothered. She gently wiped her face with a tissue.
Xu Xiaoqi immediately leaned into her arms, not in a romantic way but like a small bird seeking warmth from its mother. It was pure dependence.
Only then did Yu Peirong feel a small sense of relief.
Whatever their relationship had been, as long as it wasn’t romantic, that was good enough. She still remembered the kinds of people the original owner had offended before. One was more intense than the next. She really couldn’t handle another emotional mess.
From the way Xu Xiaoqi behaved, it seemed she genuinely trusted her. That probably meant the original owner hadn’t betrayed her, at least not directly.
“Come inside. Sit down. Come sit.”
Xu Xiaoqi kept repeating those same words in a dazed voice. Yu Peirong followed her lead, gently helping her inside and settling her into a comfortable chair. The furniture was soft with rounded edges, and there was even massage chairs meant to help with recovery.
Earlier, during her conversation with the medical staff, Yu Peirong had learned that all of Xu Xiaoqi’s living expenses were being covered by her. Even the room had been chosen by her, facing south with good lighting and ventilation.
It seemed the relationship between Xu Xiaoqi and the original owner had actually been quite good.
“Xiaoqi,” Yu Peirong said, getting straight to the point. She held her hand gently to stop her from pouring tea. “How have you been feeling lately? Has anyone come to visit you?”
Xu Xiaoqi’s eyes were blank. She gently pushed Yu Peirong aside and started fiddling with the automatic kettle, as if she had added a tea bag into it. She simply smiled and kept repeating the words “Have some tea.”
Yu Peirong had no choice but to pick up the cup and take a big sip.
The next moment, she started coughing violently from the chili powder hidden inside the tea.
Cough, cough cough!
“You evil woman. You deserve this!”
Somehow, a large amount of chili powder had been mixed into the water. The spice made Yu Peirong cough uncontrollably, her face turning red. Meanwhile, the thin woman standing before her smiled with dark satisfaction, like a child who had just pulled off a successful prank. But that smile quickly widened, revealing a twisted edge that was almost frightening.
Suddenly, her voice turned sharp and piercing, like a needle stabbing directly into Yu Peirong’s mind, triggering a sudden, intense headache.
At that moment, Xu Xiaoqi lunged at her, grabbing with all her strength.
“It was you who destroyed my gland, Yu Peirong. You deserve to die!”
Yu Peirong wanted to push her away, but she was afraid of hurting her. She quickly dodged to the side. In the next instant, she saw Xu Xiaoqi grab the water kettle, about to smash it on the ground, clearly intending to use the broken pieces to take them both down.
Yu Peirong had learned self-defense. Handling an unstable Omega was not difficult for her. She grabbed Xu Xiaoqi and pinned her down, but did not call for help right away.
She could feel the woman trembling under her grip. Taking advantage of this moment, Yu Peirong gritted her teeth and lifted the Omega’s long hair, looking closely at the back of her neck. What she saw made her gasp sharply.
There, where a healthy gland should have been, was a withered and damaged one. It no longer looked like the tender, milky-white skin of a typical Omega gland. Instead, it showed signs of decay and damage.
The gland had sunken in slightly, its surface shriveled like a dried flower. Though the damage was not beyond repair and it could still store pheromones, glands were the most important and sensitive part for both Alphas and Omegas. Appearance mattered a lot. Most Alphas would not be willing to mark an Omega with a gland in that condition.
Xu Xiaoqi trembled violently. As Yu Peirong lifted the cloth covering her neck, she began to scream uncontrollably. Her cries were filled with unbearable pain.
Yu Peirong felt a pang of guilt, but she did not let go. She was afraid Xu Xiaoqi might hurt herself if left unchecked. She looked around and quickly tied her up with a bath towel, improvising a restraint.
She looked into the woman’s eyes and said firmly,
“I didn’t touch your gland.”
Yu Peirong wasn’t sure about many of the original owner’s past actions. The memories were still hazy, but she was absolutely certain about this one thing.
When an Alpha marks an Omega, there is always a lingering sense or reaction afterward. Just now, when Xu Xiaoqi had been struggling, she released some of her pheromones. They smelled like orange blossoms. Not unpleasant, but Yu Peirong felt no response at all. That clearly meant their pheromone compatibility was very low.
“You really dare say you weren’t the one who did it that night?”
Xu Xiaoqi’s eyes turned red. She looked half-mad and screamed as her voice cracked.
“That night, it was you who invited me to drink. I only went because I trusted you.”
