I Transmigrated into a Scummy Alpha and Stole the Heroine from Her Tragic Romance - Chapter 21
When Qi Xiyao noticed Yu Peirong’s odd reaction, she paused.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Yu Peirong replied quickly, though her face felt so hot it could have boiled water.
She had never been in a relationship before, but she wasn’t clueless. When she saw the cute little cat paw accessory, she immediately understood what it was.
This finely decorated room was clearly designed as a couple’s suite. The round bed, flowing curtains, and the discreetly placed, unopened adult items were all tailored for romantic use.
Of course Yu Peirong did not want Qi Xiyao to see those things and get embarrassed. She tried to act natural, waved her hand, then sat on the bed and changed into comfortable slippers.
“You can take a shower first. It’s nothing.”
Thankfully, Qi Xiyao did not press further. She quietly turned and went into the bathroom.
The bathroom had a strange design, likely intended to enhance romantic atmosphere. Its frosted glass door had a clear panel in the center. Given Qi Xiyao’s height, if she turned her head, she could probably see a faint glimpse of her waist through the clear part.
Yu Peirong wasn’t the type to take advantage of someone. She had not even entertained the thought. She was simply panicking, trying to figure out where to hide that suggestive object.
Should she put it in the drawer?
The drawers were semi-transparent, and they already held a few hotel-standard rubber items, some bandages, and disposable grooming tools. A soft pink cat paw toy would be far too obvious in there.
The closet was no better. After thinking for a bit, Yu Peirong had no choice but to stuff the item into her own suitcase.
Qi Xiyao was unlikely to open it, and after scanning the entire room, Yu Peirong concluded that the suitcase was the safest option.
Once the item was hidden, she heard the shower water quiet down. She spent a couple minutes calming her breathing, trying to slow her racing heart.
After her shower, Qi Xiyao thoughtfully opened a window to air out the room. She even stayed inside for a few extra minutes so that her scent would completely fade, avoiding any awkwardness.
When Alphas and Omegas shower, the steam tends to trigger some involuntary pheromone release. It was not intense and would disappear quickly, but still something to be mindful of.
Yu Peirong also took a quick shower. When she came out, towel in hand, she saw Qi Xiyao sitting at the edge of the bed with a troubled expression, deep in thought.
The crisp autumn air made the room comfortable without needing the air conditioning. Qi Xiyao wore a long-sleeved nightdress with a loose neckline embroidered with floral patterns and a delicate lavender bow in the center. It perfectly framed her fair skin and collarbones.
She seemed completely lost in her thoughts, unaware that Yu Peirong had come out. Her bare feet gently moved over the soft carpet. The deep red nail polish on her toes contrasted with the dark carpet, like a small blooming peony.
“Qi Xiyao,” Yu Peirong called her by her full name.
Qi Xiyao snapped out of her thoughts and looked up.
She had always thought Yu Peirong looked more like an Alpha.
Without makeup, Yu Peirong’s features looked even colder and sharper. Her face had striking angles but was not too harsh. Her slightly narrow eyes always carried an intense gaze that made it hard to hide anything. But this time, Qi Xiyao’s unease did not come from Yu Peirong herself.
Days of doubt and unease finally pushed her to speak.
She lowered her voice but still spoke clearly and slowly.
“Sister Rong, do you remember Xu Xiaoqi?”
Yu Peirong paused slightly.
The moment that question left Qi Xiyao’s lips, all the hesitation and tension in her body seemed to vanish. What replaced them was a quiet anticipation, almost nervous curiosity. Her eyes locked onto Yu Peirong’s face, searching for even the tiniest emotional reaction.
But Yu Peirong truly had no idea who Xu Xiaoqi was. Her secretary had been vague, and she still didn’t know if the original Yu Peirong had done something unforgivable to this person.
The system did not know everything either. It could not override the logic of this world or offer too many shortcuts, so Yu Peirong had to figure out the truth on her own.
“Why are you suddenly asking about her?”
That was the only safe way to respond. She tried to be careful, hoping Qi Xiyao might say something that would give her a clue.
Qi Xiyao seemed a bit more nervous now. After hesitating a moment, she finally said,
“No reason. I just remembered her and wondered if she has been discharged.”
But mental illness is rarely easy to recover from. The official reports at the time had stated that Xu Xiaoqi had suffered from extreme stress, injured her own glands, and eventually lost control, leading to her being admitted to a mental hospital. From what Yu Peirong had read, Xu Xiaoqi likely had not recovered.
There had been speculation in the past that the original Yu Peirong was involved, but as far as Yu Peirong could recall, the original had not yet done anything truly horrible.
She still had no idea how Qi Xiyao had come to know about Xu Xiaoqi, but it was obvious that this mattered to her.
So much so that it could affect the future of their relationship.
The system, which had remained quiet in her mind, suddenly seemed like it wanted to speak.
[System]: Host…
“Do you think I did it?”
Yu Peirong interrupted, asking the question directly.
Qi Xiyao clearly hadn’t expected her to respond like that. Her eyes filled with surprise and uncertainty, followed by a flicker of awkwardness and unease. When she noticed Yu Peirong’s expression beginning to darken, her first instinct was to apologize.
But then, Yu Peirong suddenly reached out and took her hand.
Her palm wasn’t very large, but her fingers were long and slender, easily holding Qi Xiyao’s hand in her grasp. The faint scent of peach blossom lingered from the hand cream she had used. The veins on the back of her hand were just visible, but not sharply protruding. Her fair skin had a hint of blue beneath the surface, and her knuckles were soft and pink.
“Even though there are still some things I can’t fully explain right now,” Yu Peirong said softly but firmly, “what happened was definitely not done by me.”
She looked directly into Qi Xiyao’s eyes. Her voice was calm yet resolute, like a small hammer gently tapping on a sheet of ice, sending ripples across the surface.
“For now, I just need you to trust me. Can you do that?”
Qi Xiyao felt a sudden jolt in her chest. She didn’t know why, but something about Yu Peirong’s rare seriousness made her feel both solemn and slightly ashamed.
She thought to herself, President Yu really has been good to me. Nothing like the harsh rumors circulating online, where people said she was heartless, possessive, ruthless, and incapable of kindness.
The weight of her growing guilt left Qi Xiyao overwhelmed and uneasy, with no outlet for the emotions bubbling inside her.
As she looked at a stray strand of hair that had fallen along Yu Peirong’s cheek, she instinctively reached out to tuck it behind her ear.
Her soft hand brushed gently across Yu Peirong’s lips, grazing them lightly.
