I Transmigrated and Already Had a Wife - Chapter 69
Jiang Zhou had walked this small path many times, but at this moment, it felt both long and difficult. The stones underfoot were messy, and the small paths intertwined. Thankfully, she wasn’t so drunk that she was completely unaware of her surroundings; at least, when someone passed by, she knew to find a place to hide. A journey that normally took half a zhancha (a short period of time) ended up taking a full zhuxiang (a longer period, roughly an hour) before she finally reached the familiar small courtyard.
The young maid at the door had been waiting there for a long time. Seeing her arrive, the maid rushed forward. This ancestor had finally arrived! Her mistress had been waiting for her for nearly an hour.
However, as Jiang Zhou approached, the strong smell of alcohol hit the maid, who quickly covered her nose and mouth, muttering indistinctly, “Guye (Husband/Son-in-law), why have you drunk so much? Miss has been waiting for you for a long time.”
Jiang Zhou’s body swayed. The maid hurriedly held her steady, feeling extremely displeased with her in her heart.
“Oh?” Jiang Zhou stood still. Countless young maids swayed before her eyes, their mouths opening and closing. She even felt that the maid overlapped slightly with her own insensitive little maid. It was very noisy.
I need to replace her sooner or later, Jiang Zhou thought to herself. She swayed her body again, pulling her arm out of the maid’s grasp, and said with dissatisfaction, “Only, only my wife can touch me.”
Maid: “…” She couldn’t help but roll her eyes right there.
Just then, Lin Muwan pushed open the bedroom door and saw Jiang Zhou tilting her head, scrutinizing her maid from head to toe.
The maid, on the other hand, was looking at Lin Muwan with a look of despair.
Lin Muwan frowned. “What are you two doing?”
“Hm?” Jiang Zhou snapped back to reality. She turned her head and, upon clearly seeing the person who had arrived, her mouth immediately broke into a wide grin, revealing a row of neat, white teeth. She looked a little silly. “Wife, my wife,”
She lifted her foot and walked toward Lin Muwan, but her steps were too hasty. Her body suddenly pitched forward and she fell into a warm embrace. Lin Muwan tilted her head, looking at the person in her arms, her expression cool. She instructed the maid, “Go fetch a basin of water.”
Maid: “Miss, let me help you escort Guye inside first.”
A cold light flashed in Lin Muwan’s eyes, and she said sternly, “You go fetch the water.” Her voice was chillingly clear.
“Oh, alright.” The maid nodded and glanced thoughtfully at her mistress. She felt as if her mistress had been unhappy when she offered to help escort her husband. Upon closer look, however, her mistress maintained her usual cold and aloof demeanor, as if her previous feeling had been merely an illusion.
The maid shook her head as she walked, murmuring, “Was it too dark and I was seeing things?”
Jiang Zhou stabilized herself, slightly tilted her head, and grinned foolishly. “Wife, it’s, it’s cold at night. Why did you come out?”
Lin Muwan’s brow furrowed slightly. The strong smell of alcohol made her uncomfortable. “Why did you drink so much?”
“Hm?” Jiang Zhou showed her white teeth. “I ran into Xiao Qi and we drank a little together.”
As she spoke, she leaned closer, embracing Lin Muwan’s waist with one hand and placing the other on her slightly bulging belly. “Baby, did you miss me? Hehe, I missed you and your mother terribly. If it weren’t for your grandfather that…” Under the influence of alcohol, she grew increasingly wronged as she spoke, even accompanied by a couple of sobs.
Lin Muwan sighed. Suppressing her discomfort, she took Jiang Zhou’s hand. “Let’s go inside first. I’ll have Xiao Ju make you a bowl of hangover soup in a moment.”
“Hm?” Jiang Zhou looked at the person moving in front of her with hazy eyes. Her steps stumbled. As if she remembered something, she tilted her head for a moment, then cried out, “I won’t, I won’t drink hangover soup.”
Fearing that she would continue to make a scene and wake up the people in the residence.
“Alright, you don’t have to drink it. Will you come into the room with me first?” Lin Muwan coaxed, while leading the person into the room.
Lin Muwan helped Jiang Zhou sit on a stool, but her body was swaying, and she couldn’t sit steady on her own.
Lin Muwan had no choice but to help her onto the bed. The moment Jiang Zhou’s head touched the pillow, sleepiness immediately rushed in, and in the next instant, she fell asleep.
The alcohol had gone to her head, and her cheeks were still flushed with a faint blush. Lin Muwan sighed, took her hand and held it in her palm. After the maid came in with the water, she placed Jiang Zhou’s hand under the quilt, tucked the corner of the quilt, and said to the maid, “Just leave it there. Go and cook a bowl of hangover soup.”
Maid: “Miss, please let this servant handle these tasks. You are pregnant with a child.”
Her mistress was of noble birth. When had she ever done such things? Xiao Ju grew increasingly dissatisfied with this son-in-law in her heart.
She already felt guilty toward her mistress. A year ago, when the Lin family had an accident and her mistress and madam were exiled from the capital, she was supposed to follow, but her mistress, not wanting to implicate her, drove her out of the manor.
Having nowhere to go, she returned to her original home and waited a full year until she received news of her master’s exoneration and her mistress and madam’s return to the capital. She returned to the Lin manor.
After returning, she learned that her mistress was already married and pregnant. She initially thought her mistress was forced, but after observing for this period, she realized her mistress was deeply fond of her husband. A gentle smile would appear on her usually cool face whenever she saw her husband, and she was genuinely happy for her mistress.
But her husband was too inconsiderate today. How could he drink so much? Her mistress, being pregnant, couldn’t stand the smell of alcohol. Xiao Ju wanted to say more, but seeing her mistress’s resolute eyes, she gritted her teeth and handed the washcloth to Lin Muwan.
“Miss, I will take my leave.”
Lin Muwan took the washcloth, soaked it in water, wrung it dry, and gently wiped Jiang Zhou’s cheeks bit by bit.
“Hmm~” Lin Muwan’s wrist, holding the washcloth, was suddenly grabbed by a pale hand. Her breathing hitched, and she looked at the person.
At this moment, Jiang Zhou’s eyes were open, bright and clear as if washed by water. She stared at her unblinkingly.
Lin Muwan lowered her eyes to look at the hand on her wrist. Her heart rate involuntarily quickened. She pursed her lips, calmed her emotions, and said softly, “Don’t sleep yet. Drink the hangover soup first, or your head will ache when you wake up tomorrow.”
The person tilted her head, examining her. After a long pause, she slowly released her hand. “Wife?”
Her eyebrows were tightly knit, and her voice was hoarse, betraying uncertainty.
“Yes. Are you uncomfortable somewhere?” Lin Muwan asked.
“My head hurts.”
“I’ll rub it for you.”
Thump-thump
“Miss.”
Just then, the maid’s knocking sounded from outside the door.
Lin Muwan got up, and just as she was about to open the door, she found her skirt hem was grabbed by a pale hand. She turned her head and met a pair of sparkling eyes filled with infinite grievance, exactly like the clingy look Jiang Zhou often had. She slightly raised her head, her gaze fixed on her.
“I’m going to bring the hangover soup in,” Lin Muwan explained.
The big Jiang Zhou’s sparkling eyes instantly became misty.
Lin Muwan: “…”
She absolutely suspected this person was doing it on purpose. When she communicated with her just now, her thoughts seemed clear. What was going on now?
Her gaze lingered on the person’s face for a moment, then she sighed, feeling a little helpless. She coaxed softly, “Be good. I’ll be right back.”
Jiang Zhou pouted, gave a soft whine from the back of her throat, turned her face away, shifting her gaze from Lin Muwan’s face to the floor. She looked extremely wronged, her entire small face scrunched up.
She also refused to speak, looking very awkward.
At that moment, the voice from outside the door called out again, “Miss, I’m coming in.”
Lin Muwan looked down at her. This person usually had a bit more heroism than an average girl, but now, her cheeks were flushed with alcohol, and the misty layer of water in her sparkling eyes from the recent grievance made her look somewhat delicate.
“Are you not going to listen?” Lin Muwan deliberately put on a stern face.
Seeing this, Jiang Zhou immediately let go of her hand, looking pathetic. Just as she was about to get up, a hand pressed her down.
“Lie still. Don’t move around.”
The person who was just moving around instantly became obedient and still, her pair of peach blossom eyes wide open.
Lin Muwan’s lips curved slightly, her eyes smiling, amused by her appearance.
After a moment, she turned around, opened the door, and took the hangover soup from the maid. “Xiao Ju, you can go back. You don’t need to wait on us here.”
The maid glanced secretly past Lin Muwan into the room, then quickly lowered her head. “Miss…”
Lin Muwan interrupted her, “Go back.”
Xiao Ju still wanted to say something, but after clearly seeing the person behind her mistress, she opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing, thoughtfully closing the door for the two of them.
Lin Muwan lowered her eyes to look at the hangover soup in her hand. Suddenly, she recalled the bowl she had once made herself. After a moment, she lowered her gaze and pursed her lips.
“Wife, what are you looking at?”
The sudden voice from behind made the bowl of soup in Lin Muwan’s hand tremble, splashing a little.
She turned her head and saw the person who should have been lying on the bed was now standing right behind her, staring at her with a burning gaze.
“Why did you get up?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Zhou caught the hand holding the soup bowl, slowly taking the bowl away from her.
Jiang Zhou looked at her without speaking.
Lin Muwan was suspicious. “What’s wrong?”
She couldn’t quite tell if the person was sober or not, but she figured she should let her drink the hangover soup first, and they could talk about the rest later. So she said, “Go sit over there and drink the hangover soup.”
Jiang Zhou was in a daze. She used her other hand to capture the hand that was hanging by her side, pulling it to her cheek to rub against it, letting out a sigh of contentment. “So comfortable.”
Lin Muwan: “…” Her face flushed red, and she pulled her hand away.
This pervert. She glared at her, and deliberately said in a stern voice, “Drink the hangover soup.”
The person in front of her obediently raised her hand and drank the entire bowl of soup in one go, all the while keeping her eyes fixed on Lin Muwan, like a small, hungry beast intensely watching its prey. She licked her lips, placed the empty bowl on the flower stand, and abruptly pulled Lin Muwan into her arms, lifting her horizontally.
With every step, her foot swayed slightly. Lin Muwan was alarmed and hugged her neck tightly. “Husband, stop, don’t…”
The more nervous she became, the faster the person’s steps grew. In three steps, she reached the bed and placed her on the couch, immediately pressing down on her.
“Stop, mmph~”
Jiang Zhou’s kiss was urgent and clumsy, landing on her lips, aggressively gnawing and sucking. It wasn’t until a sharp pain shot through her lip that Lin Muwan’s mind was pulled back. She pushed against the person above her with both hands, slightly turning her head to evade the kiss, and managed to squeeze out, “Don’t press down on the baby.”
The next morning, the knocking on the door woke them up again. Lin Muwan reached out to remove the hand resting on her waist, slightly raising her head. A delicate little face appeared in her line of sight. After looking at it for a moment, she finally slipped out of the embrace, put on her outer garment, got out of bed, and opened the door.
The maid’s gaze quickly darted past Lin Muwan into the room, then she hurriedly lowered her head. “Miss, Master requests you go to the front hall for breakfast.”
Lin Muwan nodded. “Go tell Father that I’m not feeling well this morning and want to sleep in a little longer, so I won’t be joining them for breakfast.”
After the maid left, Lin Muwan looked at the person on the bed, curved her lips slightly, climbed back onto the bed, and lay back down in her embrace.
It felt as if time had returned to the past, where she fell asleep in her arms every night, and the first person she saw when she opened her eyes in the morning was her.
