I Topped the Aloof Omega in a Scummy Alpha Novel - Chapter 35
Her best friend can only be one person
Bian Yunchen stared at Ah Fan for a full three minutes, making Ah Fan extremely uncomfortable. That look, like scrutinizing a suspect, was filled with an air of examination.
“Sister Yun Shen, why did you ask me to come?” Ah Fan couldn’t hold back.
“I thought you knew.”
Bian Yunchen took out her phone. The screen showed the photo attached to the email, and when it reflected in Ah Fan’s dark eyes, a hint of shock flashed through them.
“You…”
“When, no… ”
Ah Fan was a little incoherent. She held her hands out and pressed them down, trying to clear her head.
“The person who sent you the email wasn’t me, and besides, I never took that photo.”
Bian Yunchen fell silent again. On the way to the village, she had received Jessica’s latest investigation results from Yuebei (North Vietnam).
Xuan Yuchi was in Yuebei at the time, and the people around her changed every few days. Only Ah Fan maintained contact with her from beginning to end.
Ah Fan was a rich second generation who had been traveling the world since coming of age. She seemed to have a special fondness for Yuebei, treating it like her motherland; no matter where she went, she would always return to Yuebei to stay for a while.
Right after Xuan Yuchi returned to China, Ah Fan also came back, pausing her plans for world travel.
Her family was in the technology sector, and Ah Fan was an only child. Spending a large sum of money to manage contacts and send their daughter into the entertainment industry was suspicious, no matter how you looked at it.
Ah Fan opened her mouth, thinking Bian Yunchen must have misunderstood, but it was a difficult misunderstanding to explain.
She could only say, “Sister Yun chen, Yuchi and I are just good friends.”
“Good friends?” Bian Yunchen repeated her words, her tone mocking.
Xuan Yuchi had many acquaintances, but her best friend was only one person.
Jessica had also collected a lot of evidence of Xuan Yuchi and Ah Fan’s interactions—those photos and even videos all suggested they were a couple of… good friends.
Although Bian Yunchen knew that wasn’t the real Xuan Yuchi, she still felt a sense of distraction. The person in the photo, smiling brightly and looking so joyful…
She still couldn’t stand it.
Someone had genuinely replaced her position, even if only in accompanying Xuan Yuchi’s physical body.
Ah Fan couldn’t find anything to say and randomly asked, “So, are you two together now?”
“None of your business.”
Bian Yunchen said coldly, “What is your real purpose in getting close to her? That’s what we can discuss.”
When someone inexplicably approaches another, they usually want something from them—money, status, or that person herself.
Bian Yunchen could give her the first two, treating it like giving a handout to a dog.
Ah Fan squeezed out a thoughtful smile: “Hmm…”
If she had to state her purpose for hanging out with Xuan Yuchi.
“I feel like she and I are the same kind of person. I’m very happy with her. She may seem a bit unreliable, and her love life is a little messy, but aside from that, she loves adventure, is full of curiosity about the world. She likes hearing my stories, and I’m happy to share them with her.”
Ah Fan traveled alone, making a few friends in each place. Her friends were truly transient.
Once she left a place, those friends stayed there. She didn’t want to bother them with the new things she encountered on her next journey.
Until she met Xuan Yuchi in Yuebei. She was the only one who continuously tuned in to her life adventure series. She would bring her souvenirs from her travels and mail her postcards while away.
After ending each trip, Ah Fan would go to Yuebei and stay for a short while.
Xuan Yuchi was busy during the day, working, flirting with girls, squandering her life and living for the moment. At night, she would flirt with Omegas and indulge in a decadent lifestyle.
When Ah Fan was around, Xuan Yuchi’s late-night time belonged to her, playing the role of a quiet, drunk friend.
Bian Yunchen listened, her jaw tight. Her normally calm, ethereal aura turned into a menacing, sharp “ghost-like” energy: “Are you trying to show off to me?”
“No, I’m not,” Ah Fan instinctively denied.
But she quickly couldn’t deny it anymore.
Xuan Yuchi accommodated her need to share and provided her with emotional value. Even the most excellent lover couldn’t do much more.
Ah Fan blushed.
But she had never thought of her relationship with Xuan Yuchi in that way!
From a distance, a beam of light shone, and silhouetted against it was the center of the whirlpool, Xuan Yuchi herself.
She had gotten up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and found Yun Shen wasn’t in the room. Fearing an accident, she quickly turned on her phone flashlight and searched around. Fortunately, the person was fine.
But what were these two doing in the woods in the middle of the night?
Was there something that needed to be said at midnight?
Xuan Yuchi jumped and waved her hand, but neither of the people there responded to her.
The air was cold at midnight, and the people were equally distant.
Xuan Yuchi walked over and saw Ah Fan suddenly embrace Bian Yunchen, and the two of them rolled down the small hillside together.
Xuan Yuchi was heartbroken. She couldn’t stay on this show. Why was this newcomer, Ah Fan, also one of the Bai family? Was she trying to harm them again?
She was so fed up!
Xuan Yuchi frantically ran over, twisted her ankle, and fell halfway. A small fly entered her eye. She used her hand to rub it, and the dirt on her hand got into her eye.
Her vision was still blurry, and she rushed down the hillside.
“Are you okay?” She flipped the person on the ground over and brushed the leaves from her face.
Ah Fan sighed. She had used too much force and didn’t control her speed, cutting her hand on a small stone.
“No… why did you…”
Why did she save her first!
Ah Fan rolled her eyes and fell back to the ground.
“Oh!” Xuan Yuchi also noticed something was wrong.
The one lying on the small hillside, the one she had been too focused to notice while rushing down, was Yunchen!
Xuan Yuchi immediately abandoned Ah Fan and rushed toward Yunchen.
Before she reached her, Yunchen stood up on her own, though her expression was not good.
“Are you hurt anywhere?” Xuan Yuchi shined the light on Yunchen’s face and picked the leaves out of her hair.
Her face looked fine. Xuan Yuchi then went to check Yunchen’s hands, but Yun Shen swatted her hand away.
Ah, what was wrong?
Yunchen left without struggling or fighting with Ah Fan, which suggested Ah Fan wasn’t there to hurt them?
Xuan Yuchi asked Ah Fan what had happened.
Ah Fan looked at Xuan Yuchi with a strange expression, though the strangeness was truly in her own heart.
Today, she seemed to have reached an epiphany, suddenly seeing some things clearly. The name of the boundary she thought existed seemed to be wrong.
Ah Fan hurried away.
Xuan Yuchi returned to the room, still confused. Before she could even turn on the light, her hands were pinned fiercely against the wall.
The scent of mountain snow brushed past her ear, and a bite landed on her neck.
“Ouch, ouch,” Xuan Yuchi cried out.
This was a real bite, as if meant to leave a permanent mark.
After a moment, Yunchen released her teeth and looked at the person in front of her, illuminated by the dim light from the window.
What was her fault?
They were simply being toyed with by fate.
Xuan Yuchi also saw the distress in Yunchen’s expression, and her heart instinctively softened. She compromised, “If you want to bite, bite, but can you switch to the other side?”
She remembered that Yunchen was still emotionally unstable and could have a psychotic episode at any time.
She would indulge her a bit. If this could make Yunchen feel better, Xuan Yuchi would temporarily sacrifice her skin.
Yunchen stared at her for three seconds. Her deep gaze fell upon the side of the neck that hadn’t been bitten, and then she buried her head there.
Xuan Yuchi tightly closed her eyes. The expected pain didn’t come. Instead, there was a gentle sensation, a slick yet distant caress across her neck, like being invaded by rain-dampened clouds.
Her sensitive nerves were thoroughly teased, and the restless kiss consumed and enveloped her.
The force restricting her arms faded. Xuan Yuchi lowered her hands and instinctively wrapped them around Yunchen’s waist, as if embracing a mass of snow. The cold, lonely snow melted onto her body, determined to ignite her with the utmost stubbornness.
“Stop… stop kissing me.”
Xuan Yuchi’s voice was low and languid with passion.
She was starting to feel… that way.
If this continued, she really would do that, and it would be impolite in someone else’s home.
Bian Yunchen stopped, resting her head on Xuan Yuchi’s shoulder. Her eyes were slightly moist, and she leaned there silently for a long time.
“I’ve become petty,” she said reflectively.
Ah Fan had a personality similar to Xuan Yuchi’s—impulsive and random. When she saw Xuan Yuchi approaching, she insisted on making Yun Shen see that Yun Shen was more important in Xuan Yuchi’s heart.
She hugged Yunchen and rolled down the hillside.
“Sister Yunchen, just watch. She’ll definitely save you first!”
The truth was, Xuan Yuchi seemed to have mistaken the person.
But Bian Yunchen couldn’t tolerate even that kind of misunderstanding. She gave her a cold shoulder, and upon returning to the room, her possessiveness exploded.
“Don’t be,” Xuan Yuchi stroked her waist, comforting her. “You have so much money. Even a drop in the bucket that you spare is more than what others have.”
Bian Yunchen: “…”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Yun Shen had changed out of her pajamas and was wearing a short-sleeved shirt with a light trench coat over it.
Xuan Yuchi played with the trench coat’s belt, tying a sweet bow on it for her.
“Then what is it?”
She poked the bow, as if poking Yun Shen’s face.
“Fool.”
The highly intelligent film queen slowly uttered the word and wordlessly got into bed to sleep.
Xuan Yuchi jumped onto the bed, persistent: “Tell me…”
At seven in the morning, the village was bright. Sister Lin and a few female cameramen stood at Granny Mai’s doorstep.
Granny Mai had prepared breakfast for the two girls, but Ah Fan informed her that they couldn’t eat what she had prepared.
They had to be self-reliant and cook for themselves.
Granny Mai looked at the pot of porridge with disappointment. She wanted to share it with the camerawomen, but they politely declined, saying they had to work.
In the end, Ah Fan, fearing Granny Mai would be sad, forcefully ate a double portion by herself.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
Sister Lin knocked on the door of the room where the two were sleeping.
The door opened, and Bian Yunchen stood at the doorway. Her hair was combed, and she had changed into an outfit suitable for exercise.
Xuan Yuchi was still sleeping in bed, a blanket covering her waist.
BARRAGE: [They slept under the same blanket last night?]
[No matter what, Xuan Yuchi is an Alpha. Yunchen is sacrificing too much.]
[They’re on an adventure variety show, why worry about so much?]
[They’re good friends! What’s wrong with sharing a blanket?]
[Why isn’t she up yet? Is she here for an adventure or to be on a show?]
Sister Lin’s camera was almost shoved in Xuan Yuchi’s face. Xuan Yuchi moved her lips and sneezed toward the audience.
“Ah!” Sister Lin quickly pulled out a tissue to wipe the camera lens.
BARRAGE: [Is she retaliating against the audience?]
[There’s a subtle sense of humor here.]
[I suspect she’s awake.]
After that sneeze, Xuan Yuchi woke up, stretched, and was urged by Ah Fan to get up and do the mission.
Bian Yunchen received the mission card: “Please go to the homes of other village residents and exchange your labor for breakfast.”
