I Topped the Aloof Omega in a Scummy Alpha Novel - Chapter 27
“Sister Bian, step behind me.”
There was only one blanket on the bed. Xuan Yuchi felt the soft summer quilt, climbed in from the foot of the bed, and crawled forward until her nose poked out, which almost gave Bian Yunchen a fright.
Bian Yunchen frowned slightly, pressing down on the quilt with both hands, seeming a little angry.
“I came to sleep with you,” Xuan Yuchi whispered.
The faint light outlined Xuan Yuchi’s face, causing Bian Yunchen to feel a moment of disorientation, as if she was seeing Xuan Yuchi when she was just over ten years old.
Back then, they were both children, and Xuan Yuchi would tell her everything, unlike later…
“I’m asking you a question. Nod if yes, shake your head if no.” Bian Yunchen stared at her fair, delicate face, her eyes deep.
Xuan Yuchi gave an ‘OK’ sign, exposing her entire face to make her stance clear.
Bian Yunchen: “Are you schizophrenic?”
Xuan Yuchi’s pupils trembled. Did she look like she had schizophrenia?
Bian Yunchen’s tone was serious, as if worried that Xuan Yuchi might not fully understand her meaning: “Or do you have two personalities, and you can’t control the other one?”
System: [Host, please mind your words and actions to avoid unnecessary electrocution.]
Xuan Yuchi understood. Bian Yunchen was guessing about her being taken over.
Xuan Yuchi: [Why can’t I tell her?]
System: [Regulation.]
Xuan Yuchi helplessly shook her head, then blinked frantically as if sand had gotten into her eyes.
Yunchen should be able to get it, right? In the past, when Xuan Yuchi made a mistake and needed Yunchen to cover for her immediately, she would blink frantically.
A strange feeling lingered in Bian Yunchen’s heart, accompanied by an ominous suspicion.
Bian Yunchen: “Is someone threatening you?”
Xuan Yuchi shook her head and blinked.
Who exactly is it?
Why, even when they were the only two people in the room, did Xuan Yuchi dare not tell the truth? Bian Yunchen found it unbelievable and absurd.
No matter what, she had to find that person.
Bian Yunchen: “Did the problem start before you went to Northern Vietnam?”
System: [What’s going on? Host, didn’t you deny it? How is she asking deeper questions?]
Xuan Yuchi played dumb: [I don’t know either!]
“Ah!”
A jolt of electricity went from her fingertips straight to her heart, as if someone was grabbing her fingers and slamming them against a wall.
Xuan Yuchi screamed in pain.
Xuan Yuchi: [666, are you crazy!]
System: [Destructive behavior detected. Please, Host, actively avoid it.]
“What’s wrong?” Bian Yunchen gripped Xuan Yuchi’s hand.
The cool touch coincidentally brought a pain-relieving effect to Xuan Yuchi. Xuan Yuchi pretended to rub her forehead: “I have a bit of a headache. I’ll sleep now.”
Xuan Yuchi hinted at ending the conversation, and Bian Yunchen didn’t press further, pulling the quilt down through the gap between them.
She had cracked the window open slightly in her room, and the autumn evening wind was chilling. She herself didn’t mind, but she didn’t want the other person to get sick.
Xuan Yuchi turned her back to Bian Yunchen and quickly began to breathe steadily, but she was a very restless sleeper, and soon kicked half of the quilt off the bed.
Bian Yunchen covered her several times, but it was no use. When she heard Xuan Yuchi sneeze again, she simply got out of bed to close the window.
Drawing back the curtains, the cedar trees outside rattled in the wind. A dark shadow was hidden within the dense foliage. Bian Yunchen noticed it but chose to ignore it.
She was neither a member of the Conservative Party nor the Opposition Party, and both sides were wary of her. She had long been used to this kind of life.
Bian Yunchen closed the window but didn’t get back into bed. She went to the living room and called Jessica.
“Yes, look into who she contacted and what she did while she was in Northern Vietnam.”
Jessica sounded a bit troubled: “Patriarch, she lived a poor life in Northern Vietnam, and her social circle was quite simple apart from those in that line of work. I really can’t think of anywhere else to start.”
Bian Yunchen: “Then investigate those people.”
Jessica was surprised. What was wrong with the Patriarch? She hadn’t investigated those people in depth before precisely because there was no need, and the investigation results would probably disgust the Patriarch. After all, who cares about the situation of a romantic rival?
“Okay, I’ll get on it immediately,” Jessica said.
The next day.
Xuan Yuchi stretched out a big, long yawn in bed, then sat up and jumped off the bed.
She slept so comfortably last night, the most peaceful sleep she’d ever had in her life. Now, she felt like she had the strength of an ox.
Xuan Yuchi finished washing up just as Bian Yunchen returned from her morning run, picking up the breakfast delivered by her assistant: bread, oatmeal milk, and an iced Americano.
No one spoke while they ate, but they finished at the same time and tacitly cleaned up the dining table and sorted the garbage, which would be cleaned up by a specialist after they left.
The driver pulled the car up to the door. Xuan Yuchi helped move three large suitcases into the trunk. Two belonged to Bian Yunchen, and one was hers.
However, she had already told Yunchen that during the show, they would say the coffee-colored one was also hers.
In the car, Bian Yunchen asked, “Is your headache better?”
Xuan Yuchi said, “It still hurts a bit. This is not something I can control.”
She tried hard to hint to Bian Yunchen. Since Yunchen wanted to know the truth, why would Xuan Yuchi hide it from her, if it weren’t for this accursed system…
Bian Yunchen’s gaze lowered: “Come here.”
Xuan Yuchi pointed to her thigh: “Here?”
Bian Yunchen nodded slightly.
Xuan Yuchi slumped over, resting her head on Bian Yunchen’s thigh. A pair of well-defined, bony hands lightly pressed on Xuan Yuchi’s head.
Xuan Yuchi suddenly thought of her mother, and her eyes welled up.
Her mother died suddenly, without any warning. One day when Xuan Yuchi was in high school, she suddenly fainted on the stairs, fell, and died. The cause of the fainting has never been determined.
The doctor said it might be some kind of unknown virus that happened to flare up.
Xuan Yuchi wanted to say that she missed her mother, but she didn’t, feeling it would seem childish in front of Yunchen.
Childish…
With her family’s empire on the verge of collapse, Xuan Yuchi received news that the Northern Vietnam economy was booming, and perhaps going there offered a chance for a fresh start.
She wasn’t confident, but to prove that she wasn’t a worthless failure before the string of family misfortunes, she went to Northern Vietnam alone under the pretext of running away.
At that time, she thought she would make a spectacular splash in Northern Vietnam.
Memories rumbled in her mind.
Xuan Yuchi suddenly saw “her own” past thoughts: Youth has its own madness…
But she couldn’t remember who the person was who gave her the message.
Bian Yunchen saw the sparkle in the corner of Xuan Yuchi’s eye and gently wiped it away for her.
Doctors hadn’t found any other abnormalities in Xuan Yuchi’s body, but Xuan Yuchi repeatedly used headaches as an excuse. Could it be that the problem wasn’t pathological but located within Xuan Yuchi’s physical body?
Xuan Yuchi’s mind spun, and she understood, honestly saying, “No.”
To reassure Yunchen, she added, “Sister Bian, I will tell you someday.”
Bian Yunchen grabbed Xuan Yuchi’s ponytail, swung it forward, and hit Xuan Yuchi in the face with it.
“Ouch,” Xuan Yuchi let out a small cry.
Why is she attacking me…
Unfortunately, Xuan Yuchi didn’t know that her words just now sounded too much like a false promise to Bian Yunchen.
The sedan hadn’t even reached the airport entrance when Xuan Yuchi saw two groups of people at the entrance, each holding a bouquet of flowers and a banner.
The fan club had received news of Bian Yunchen’s itinerary and selected the most senior fans to see her off. Bian Yunchen didn’t like being met by fans, so they only waited at the entrance and made sure not to block the road or interfere with passersby.
Xuan Yuchi had already sat up, and seeing the scene, she thought Bian Yunchen’s schedule had been leaked.
During her few days working at Shuihe Entertainment, Xuan Yuchi learned a lot about Bian Yunchen’s habits as a celebrity, such as how well her schedule was kept secret; fans couldn’t buy her travel information even with a large sum of money.
“Driver, let’s take a detour to another terminal,” Xuan Yuchi suggested, intending to take Yunchen on a shuttle bus to sneak past later.
Bian Yunchen: “No need.”
Xuan Yuchi: “Huh?”
The car stopped. Bian Yunchen put her hand on the door handle: “I told people to inform them.”
With that, she got out of the car. Xuan Yuchi quickly followed, stepping in front of her, worried that irrational fans might rush forward.
One fan in the crowd was so excited they fainted, but the rest suppressed their excitement and didn’t even take out their phones to film.
“Is that Yunchen’s mysterious friend?”
“Oh my god, isn’t she a staff member at Shuihe?”
“Why is she walking in front of Yunchen?”
“And she’s letting Yunchen carry her own suitcase!”
Under the increasingly angry stares of the fans, Xuan Yuchi was ready to fight them at any moment.
“Sister Bian, you go back to the car first…” Xuan Yuchi turned her head, but no one was behind her.
The car was also gone. Yunchen and the three suitcases were standing in the distance.
Xuan Yuchi was relieved when she saw that the fans were just glaring at her and hadn’t made any outrageous moves. She then walked over to Yunchen and pulled two of the suitcases.
“Sister Bian, your fans are quite rational,” Xuan Yuchi murmured with a sigh.
The corner of Bian Yunchen’s mouth curved into a smile. She walked into the center of the crowd, accepted a shimmering ink pen, and signed for a full ten minutes, maintaining a smile throughout and calmly responding to the fans’ comments, like an elegant swan.
Xuan Yuchi stood outside the crowd, almost overwhelmed by the perfume. Everywhere she looked, there were brand logos. She didn’t know if they were rich second-generation or high-level professionals, yet genuine emotion was evident in every one of their eyes.
Bian Yunchen waved to the fans and entered the airport first. Xuan Yuchi arrived at the baggage check-in a few minutes after Bian Yunchen.
She held dozens of bouquets in her arms, all kinds of colors, mixed like a hodgepodge, temporarily tied together with tape, almost covering Xuan Yuchi’s head.
Bian Yunchen asked her, “Why are you taking the flowers?”
Xuan Yuchi said, “They said they had been waiting here since early this morning. I thought since it wasn’t convenient for you to accept all of them, I took one flower from each of them. After all, it’s the fans’ goodwill.
Aren’t we going into the mountains? If the environment is simple, these flowers will be perfect for decoration. If your fans see them on TV, they will surely be very touched.”
As Xuan Yuchi spoke, she started to feel touched herself.
Bian Yunchen chuckled, noncommittal, and allowed Xuan Yuchi to bring the flowers onto the plane.
Not accepting any gifts from fans has been her rule since her debut, reaching a point where it doesn’t even need to be explicitly mentioned. But unable to withstand the fans’ enthusiasm, Bian Yunchen occasionally accepted a few handmade scrapbooks or letters from them.
Sure enough, she saw a card in Xuan Yuchi’s pocket.
Bian Yunchen took out the card and opened it.
It read: “Don’t go, it’s very dangerous!”
