I Topped the Aloof Omega in a Scummy Alpha Novel - Chapter 20
Xuan Yuchi is trapped on the island.
After a long wait, Shi Yan approaches a staff member.
The staff member asks her to fill out a divorce intention form. Yu Ming hands over the property deeds she brought, proving that she can support her daughter’s life after the divorce.
Shi Yan fills in the basic information, followed by some questions about the marriage.
“Have you truly felt no happiness in this marriage?”
“Has it really reached the point of no return?”
“Do you have any love left for your wife?”
Shi Yan’s pen hovers above “Yes.” Yu Ming’s eyes are fixed on the tip of the pen; she wishes she could grab her daughter’s hand and check the box.
Shi Yan filled the previous items quickly, but she pauses at the last question.
It is as if she is receiving some kind of telepathic signal from afar, making her unable to make a decision.
Shi Yan looks up at her mother, seeing her eager gaze.
“Hurry and sign, darling.”
Shi Yan frowns, puts down the pen, and resolutely stands up: “I’m not getting divorced.”
The staff member smiles, closes the computer, and ends their shift.
Xuan Yuchi returns to her room in a daze, collapsing onto the bed and burying her face in the quilt, like a wilted rapeseed flower.
System: [I told you a long time ago, the time she took sleeping pills was the closest you got to a successful divorce. No, wait… she was faking suicide last time.]
System: [Just now, when you gave her the diamond ring, the mission completion rate approached 75%. She tricked you; now the mission completion rate is only 25%.]
System: [Host, I suspect your true opponent in this world is not Bai Fu, but Bian Yunchen.]
System: [As the person least contaminated by the collapsed world and one of the main characters, her thoughts might be the key.]
Jabber, jabber, jabber…
Xuan Yuchi doesn’t hear a word. She flips over and stretches.
Xuan Yuchi: [Besides marrying Yunchen to let the plot follow the original path, are there any other alternative remedies?]
Since the system could suggest killing Yunchen—a ‘two negatives make a positive’ route—perhaps there are other ways out.
System: [Sure, there is. I told you to kill Bai Fu, do you dare?]
She doesn’t dare; she cannot kill people.
Xuan Yuchi sighs. Since things have come to this, she should eat first.
The V. Hotel has several restaurants. The sea is not far from the exit, and there is a special seaside BBQ restaurant on the first floor. Xuan Yuchi walks there. The hotel staff are relaxed, but she doesn’t see a single tourist.
The sky is an orange sea. Xuan Yuchi pulls out a camping chair, facing the beach, and the waiter brings the menu.
The evening news broadcasts: “The divorce rate plummeted today, and a wave of re-marriages may occur tomorrow… Fengxia Island will be officially and fully closed tonight at seven o’clock. The opening time is undetermined…”
“Here are your skewers and iced Americano.” The waiter smiles and places the food on the small table.
Xuan Yuchi is on the phone with Xuan Weiming: “Yes, Aunt. This time was a failure, but can you send someone to secretly protect her first?”
Xuan Weiming is incredulous: “Are you sure? How could it fail?!”
“Since you went abroad five years ago, she has contacted all domestic airlines to notify her immediately if there was any news of your return. Haven’t the young people of the Bian family been traveling around the world to study to find you over the years? She cares about you so much, how could she reject you?”
What Xuan Weiming says is top-secret information of the opposition party. Bian Yunchen believed she was acting secretly, unaware that since she joined the conservative party, the opposition has monitored her every move.
Five years ago was the peak of the opposition party’s intelligence technology. Originally, the candidate supported by Xuan Weiming had a chance to be elected as the new president that year…
Xuan Yuchi does not reply for a long time. Xuan Weiming grows anxious, and only then does Xuan Yuchi slowly say: “Perhaps… she doesn’t love me anymore.”
Xuan Weiming is speechless. Just like that, she doesn’t love her anymore?
“Are you still on the island?” Xuan Weiming asks.
Xuan Yuchi: “Yes, I’ll be back tomorrow.”
Her mind is a little confused right now. She needs to be in a place far from Bian Yunchen to sort out her thoughts. She had previously misjudged Yunchen’s feelings for her.
Xuan Weiming: “Before you leave, go and do one thing…”
Bian Yunchen is remotely briefing Jessica on family affairs in her room; she plans to disappear completely for a while.
After settling everything, Bian Yunchen casually tosses her phone into a glass cup and lies on a chair, watching the night darken over the sea.
Xuan Yuchi stands on a rented kayak and sends a message.
“Sister Bian, I’m leaving first.”
She attaches a photo of herself on the sea. Five minutes later, she dives in, sinking into the ocean.
Xuan Yuchi can swim. When her body is submerged, she instinctively holds her breath and floats up. She splashes around in the sea, expending her energy, looking almost like she’s drowning.
However, after all this time, there is still no one nearby.
An employee urgently knocks on Bian Yunchen’s room door. Bian Yunchen is awakened by the sound of the door opening, slightly displeased: “What is it?”
Employee: “Miss Xuan fell into the sea. Should we rescue her?”
The head of the family told her to keep an eye on Xuan Yuchi without drawing her attention. She saw Xuan Yuchi get into the kayak and jump into the sea, thinking she was swimming.
The head of the family did not say how to handle this situation, and the Bian family knew how Miss Xuan had previously betrayed the head of the family, making them unsure of the head of the family’s attitude towards her.
Bian Yunchen doesn’t even have time to change her shoes: “Hurry up and go!”
Xiao Qi takes the walkie-talkie from her chest and says to the other end: “Save her quickly!”
Then she dashes out like a whirlwind.
Xuan Yuchi is about to run out of energy and asks 666 for a lottery draw. Before she can complete the task, someone grabs her waist, and before her eyes can even see clearly, she is pulled onto a yacht.
She wipes her eyes, finally seeing clearly: it’s the hotel staff.
The second before, she had still held onto the slim hope that Yunchen would be the one to save her. Now, she is completely disheartened.
“Can you take me out?” Xuan Yuchi shivers from the cold.
The employees exchange glances, unsure what to do.
Xiao Qi pats Xuan Yuchi’s back: “Let’s go back to the hotel to change clothes first. Our hotel has ginger tea.”
Xuan Yuchi shivers and mumbles, “Okay.”
Xiao Qi’s phone is on.
Bian Yunchen holds the phone in one hand and binoculars in the other, standing on the hotel’s observation deck.
As the yacht gradually approaches the shore, she returns to the interior of the hotel, her palms sweaty with anxiety, leaning on a nearby Roman column for support.
Xiao Qi finds her: “Head of the family, Miss Xuan says she wants to go back.”
“No,” Bian Yunchen says without hesitation.
“Head of the family, are you going to see Miss Xuan? I see she looks a bit unwell,” Xiao Qi asks.
Bian Yunchen: “Let the doctor go first.”
Xiao Qi rushes to the medical station to fetch the doctor.
Xuan Yuchi takes a hot bath and drinks the ginger tea delivered by the hotel, but still feels cold seeping into her body. She feels nauseous but can’t vomit until the doctor prescribes medication. Only half an hour after taking it does she feel better.
Just a little longer, and she can go back tomorrow.
However, the next day, a beautiful, sunny morning, Xuan Yuchi stands on the dock wearing the cultural shirt the hotel gave her, looking out at a clean sea.
She returns to the hotel and asks the front desk: “Is there no yacht going back to the shore today?”
Front desk: “Are you going to the opposite side?”
Xuan Yuchi nods.
The front desk picks up the walkie-talkie and presses it seven times: “Can we go to the opposite side today?”
Xiao Qi: “Not today, no.”
The front desk says: “Not today. Please stay one more day. The room is free of charge.”
Xuan Yuchi returns to her room disheartened. It’s Xuan Weiming calling again.
“How is it? Did she care about you?”
Xuan Yuchi: “No.”
Xuan Weiming gasps and hangs up the phone.
This niece is useless.
Xuan Yuchi waits another day. The next day, when she goes to the dock, there is still no one.
The front desk is about to pick up the walkie-talkie again.
Xuan Yuchi: “Could you please ask when I can go back? I really have an urgent matter.”
Xiao Qi steps out from behind, smiling: “The sea conditions haven’t been good lately. Miss, why don’t you enjoy yourself here for a month? Maybe next month will be fine.”
Xuan Yuchi is puzzled. She used to vacation on small islands with her mother and never encountered this situation.
“Are you the manager here? Can you please ask again? I genuinely have something urgent to return for,” Xuan Yuchi says.
Xiao Qi blinks: “Don’t you like it here? What is the urgent matter? Why don’t you tell me?”
Xuan Yuchi: “My mother is not feeling well, and I need to go back and accompany her.”
Xiao Qi: “Alright then, I’ll go and ask for you.”
Xiao Qi goes to Bian Yunchen’s room and relays Xuan Yuchi’s urgent matter.
Bian Yunchen sneers. Is Xuan Ling unwell recently? She heard that Xuan Ling has been frequently associating with the conservative party lately. She used to be timid and afraid to leave the house, but recently she even has the leisure to go golfing with people.
Bian Yunchen: “No.”
Another five days pass, and Xuan Yuchi finally realizes something is wrong. Her phone signal is poor, and she can’t even receive outside messages. Her daily life is limited to calling for room service on the hotel’s internal network.
She stops asking the front desk if there’s a yacht to go back today, pretending to have settled down. She runs to the beach when no one is around.
She watches for three days, with no trace of an airplane passing overhead, so she gives up the idea of writing SOS in the sand.
Xiao Qi often comes to play with her. Xiao Qi says the hotel is owned by her relatives, and Fengxia Island is actually her relative’s private island, just usually open to the public.
Xiao Qi looks a few years younger than Xuan Yuchi, is pretty and clever, and her eyes somewhat resemble…
Xuan Yuchi stops that line of thought and suddenly realizes a problem.
“So, is there no one else on this island besides your staff and me?”
Xiao Qi: “Uh… there are others, quite a few, but everyone is doing their own thing, so you haven’t met them.”
Xuan Yuchi narrows her eyes: “Really?”
She suspects she is the unique unlucky one.
Xiao Qi: “Really!”
Xuan Yuchi pleads: “Then can you help me invite them? I want to host a party at the hotel the day after tomorrow. I’m really bored.”
Xiao Qi: “Okay…”
The next night, Xuan Yuchi receives a message from Xiao Qi. Three guests are willing to attend her party. Xiao Qi asks about the party theme and dress code.
Xuan Yuchi says the theme is a food-tasting convention, with herself as the chef. The other guests only need to attend.
On the third day, Xuan Yuchi drives everyone out of the back kitchen, closes the door, and cooks alone with a clatter.
Xiao Qi reports this to Bian Yunchen, who still gives the same instruction: “Keep an eye on her.”
Xiao Qi had met Xuan Yuchi when she was a child and remembered a noisy older sister who constantly followed the head of the family. The head of the family was cool toward the Bian family members but occasionally showed Xuan Yuchi some favor.
Xiao Qi thought at the time that with Xuan Yuchi’s perseverance—even waiting outside the door when the head of the family used the restroom—even an iceberg would melt.
However, after spending time together these few days, she finds Xuan Yuchi is not as noisy as she remembered. Usually, Xiao Qi does most of the talking when they chat.
Xiao Qi has other things to attend to and instructs an employee to watch Xuan Yuchi.
Xuan Yuchi fries a blackened, gooey mess, spoons it onto a plate, and even she can’t help but frown at it.
System: [Congratulations on receiving the “Physical Reward” – a yacht, usable once.]
System: [Congratulations on receiving “Divine Favor” – The Fire of Collapse.]
A large fire quickly spreads from the bottom of the pot to the entire kitchen. Xuan Yuchi opens the door: “Fire!”
The employees outside the door immediately rush to find fire extinguishers, and the hotel’s smoke alarms sound simultaneously.
The employees who were supposed to be disguised as “guests” also rush down, running straight into Xuan Yuchi.
The hotel staff wear uniform uniforms. Xuan Yuchi recognizes them as the likely “other guests” and kindly says: “I’m going out to sea now. Are you coming?”
The people look at each other. Xuan Yuchi asks again. No one answers, so she runs off by herself.
