I Swear I Don’t Want to Be Everyone’s Favorite - Chapter 55.1
With the sudden influx of too many unauthorized personnel into the film crew, Xiang Fan alone couldn’t possibly expel them all. She had no choice but to tolerate a few of them and contacted the villagers, who had just returned in high spirits, to tidy up several guest rooms.
Troubling people in the middle of the night would make any reasonable person feel embarrassed, but not Fu Yunqing. She nodded politely in response to the village chief’s daughter’s greeting and said with restraint, “There’s no need to prepare a room for me.”
“Are you going back?” Before the girl could reply, Jiang Luoyue, who had calculated that she only needed to deal with three people, breathed a long sigh of relief.
One against three the advantage was hers!
“What do you mean by that?” Fu Yunqing shot her a glare, then stretched out an arm and draped it over Jiang Luoyue’s shoulder. “Your room is so big isn’t it just right for two people?”
Jiang Luoyue thought back to her cramped room: “…”
So big? Just right?
Before she could gather her thoughts, the other three had already voiced their opinions.
One was straightforward: “Talking in your sleep before you’ve even gone to bed?”
Another was sarcastic: “If you’ve got nothing better to do, you could hang yourself with noodles.”
And one was concise and utterly uncivilized: “Get lost.”
Jiang Luoyue sighed inwardly again: the entertainment industry really was a melting pot of influences, capable of making Yu Jingtang curse so fluently. What could the production team possibly offer to make it up to Little Tang’s fans?
As expected, Fu Yunqing, having been insulted, flared up in anger: “Jiang Luoyue hasn’t even said anything, you all”
“It’s fine.” Jiang Luoyue spoke up, cutting her off.
With just those two words, everyone’s gaze fell on her face like sharp daggers. Jiang Luoyue felt her face stinging under their stares. Still in her pajamas and feeling chilly standing in the draft, she yawned and said, “That room can only fit one person. If you want to sleep there, go ahead.”
“As for the room she doesn’t want, I’ll take it,” Jiang Luoyue said to the village chief’s daughter, smiling. “Thank you, sis.”
The woman was so charmed that she immediately went to prepare the room. As Jiang Luoyue went to help, Fu Yunqing finally heard the derisive snort from beside her.
Only then did she snap back to reality: “What are you laughing at? Can any of you sleep in her bed?”
Ning Fuguang retorted sharply, “Can you be her neighbor and see her first thing tomorrow morning?”
Fu Yunqing was left speechless. It took her a moment to catch up with the others: “Wait for me! Fine, I won’t share a room with her”
After a chaotic half of the night, when Jiang Luoyue opened her eyes the next day in an unfamiliar room, she thought the previous night’s commotion had been a dream.
A nightmare.
That is, until she pushed open her door and Fu Yunqing’s furious scolding of Ning Fuguang slammed straight into her ears.
Jiang Luoyue took a deep breath, convinced the nightmare wasn’t over yet, and was about to turn around and go back for more sleep when Fu Yunqing caught sight of her out of the corner of her eye and uttered that classic line: “Jiang Luoyue, look at her!”
As she turned her face, Ning Fuguang was smiling gently, wearing an expression of perfect tolerance, as if she would agree to anything. But Jiang Luoyue knew all too well that if she showed even the slightest bias toward Fu Yunqing, that flawless facade would shatter.
Suppressing her own mischievous impulse, Jiang Luoyue said expressionlessly, “Handle your own business yourself.”
Fight your own battles too, was she a part-time referee? Always having to mediate!
Fu Yunqing, feeling wronged, secretly vowed to hold out for at least half a morning without speaking to Jiang Luoyue.
But during breakfast, when Jiang Luoyue discreetly poked her uninjured leg under the table, she couldn’t help but glance over.
“When did you get the cast removed?” Having grown too accustomed to Fu Yunqing’s wheelchair-bound appearance, Jiang Luoyue found it somewhat strange to see her “perfectly intact” again. “You didn’t even send me a message.”
After finishing breakfast, Xiang Fan headed to the film set. Unable to stand the sight of the other three doing nothing, she forcibly recruited Ning Fuguang and Yu Jingtang. As for why Fu Yunqing remained behind, it was purely due to her thick skin.
With only the two of them left at the dining table, Fu Yunqing let out a cold snort. To keep Jiang Luoyue from feeling awkward, she quickly abandoned the vow she had made to herself.
“Why should I tell you? You’re so busy filming,” she said, her tone tinged with a hint of sourness. “How could I possibly bother you?”
The words themselves carried a sarcastic edge, but paired with Fu Yunqing’s pitiful tone, Jiang Luoyue only felt a mix of helplessness and endearment.
“You used to tell me everything before,” Jiang Luoyue pointed out. “Eating, working, sleeping I replied to every single one. But for something as important as getting your cast removed, I had to find out through a livestream.”
Hearing this, Fu Yunqing was suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. To escape the feeling, she blurted out, “Fine, it’s my fault, alright”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Fu Yunqing snapped back to reality. She had worn the cast for Jiang Luoyue’s sake, and she hadn’t told her precisely to avoid worrying her. She hadn’t done anything wrong, so why was she taking the blame?
Jiang Luoyue clearly noticed this too and chuckled softly behind her hand.
Fu Yunqing lowered her gaze and refused to engage further. At some point, she had realized that whenever she was around Jiang Luoyue, she lost all rationality, drifting like duckweed on the water. Whatever Jiang Luoyue did, she followed; in every matter, Jiang Luoyue’s thoughts took precedence.
This change had been gradual, and by the time Fu Yunqing noticed it and felt a jolt of alarm, she had already become inextricably entangled in everything related to Jiang Luoyue.
It was an experience she had never had before in her life, and she found it difficult to put into words, feeling only a sense of frustration.
In the prolonged silence, Jiang Luoyue finally asked softly, “Are you angry?”
“No,” Fu Yunqing replied stiffly, unwilling to reveal her thoughts.
She hadn’t even confessed her feelings to Jiang Luoyue yet, and Jiang Luoyue was already pushing her limits. What would happen after she confessed? The idea of being “whipped” was something Fu Yunqing had only read about in novels, she never imagined she would become one of those people herself.
This matter required careful consideration!
As Fu Yunqing stewed in her thoughts, she heard Jiang Luoyue sigh softly.
She was about to ask what was wrong when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jiang Luoyue slowly leaning closer. That beautiful face became clearer, and she noticed the slight curl of her bangs and the clarity of her turquoise-like eyes. Jiang Luoyue whispered, “Actually, I’m really happy that you all came.”
“This is the first time friends have visited me on set. Thank you, Yunqing.”
With just those three sentences, the corners of Fu Yunqing’s mouth, which she had been struggling to keep down, lifted into a wide smile.
She nodded. “You’re welcome.”
“Whenever you want, I can visit you anytime.”
Jiang Luoyue laughed lightly. “You have your own things to attend to as well.”
Once or twice was fine, but if it happened too often, it would be Jiang Luoyue who felt uncomfortable.
Good things couldn’t happen every day, and friends wouldn’t always be together. Jiang Luoyue understood this well.
But Fu Yunqing retorted, “If I’m busy, I’ll reschedule. If I can’t reschedule, I’ll rush over overnight. Is that so hard?”
Jiang Luoyue was her certain future girlfriend. When her girlfriend asked her to visit the set, Fu Yunqing would go through fire and water to be there.
Of course, even if her girlfriend didn’t ask, Fu Yunqing would still show up uninvited, just like this time.
She said it as if it were the most natural thing, but Jiang Luoyue was utterly astonished.
Fu Yunqing’s answer was too perfect so perfect that Jiang Luoyue couldn’t find a single flaw, and even more perfect to the point where she couldn’t understand why Fu Yunqing treated her so well.
Just as she was about to ask this question, her phone suddenly rang. As soon as she answered, Xiang Fan’s cold voice came through: “Do I need to remind you of the shooting schedule? Jiang Luoyue, you’re wasting too much time on irrelevant people.”
Jiang Luoyue, who happened to have her phone on speaker: “…”
The “irrelevant person” in question: “…”
Fu Yunqing, fuming, accompanied Jiang Luoyue to the filming location. She had intended to confront Xiang Fan, but the moment they arrived, she was whisked away by the makeup artist. The assistant director carefully placed a script on the table and reminded her, “Director Xiang said you’re making a guest appearance. These are your character’s lines.”
Jiang Luoyue, sitting beside her, couldn’t hold back a laugh, earning an immediate complaint from Fu Yunqing: “You’re doing it again!”
She had no choice but to suppress her smile and mock the others impartially: “What about Ning Fuguang and Yu Jingtang?”
Surely they hadn’t been roped into this like Fu Yunqing.
The assistant director closed his eyes, unable to bear the sight: “They’re still waiting to shoot in the next studio.”
“I’m directing.”
Thinking of that scene, Jiang Luoyue’s expression grew serious: “You’ve worked hard.”
