I Struggle to Survive in a Girl Group [Transmigration] - Chapter 48
“No way, Siqi, you’re really not going to eat?”
An Qing held up a chicken leg almost as big as her face, looking at the youngest member of their group with confusion.
Today, they had come to the studio for a rehearsal of “Girl Group Showdown.” They arrived just in time for lunch, and the staff had prepared deluxe boxed meals so everyone could eat their fill before diving into the intense rehearsal.
Shen Siqi, for some inexplicable reason, had decided to trade the chicken leg from her boxed meal for a vegetable salad, which left An Qing utterly baffled.
Wen Ling also chimed in, “Siqi, there are a lot of games today. If you don’t eat enough, you’ll definitely get hungry.”
“No way,” Shen Siqi shook her head firmly, stretching out her arm to pull the two vegetable salads in front of her. “My waistline is too tight, I have to eat less.”
She had carefully applied light makeup today, and the ends of her fluffy long hair were curled inward with a curling iron, making her look incredibly sweet and adorable.
“Alright then.” Seeing how determined she was, An Qing decided not to press further and took a bite of the chicken leg.
As she munched on the chicken, she couldn’t help but wonder inwardly. Ever since Shen Siqi had her fortune told by Christine, she had become unusually conscious of her appearance. It was all because…
“Waiting for your girlfriend again?”
Yu Tingbai handed her own vegetable salad to Shen Siqi and asked with a smile.
“Of course,” Shen Siqi accepted the salad and nodded matter-of-factly. “What if she comes to see me today?”
“What if my girlfriend comes to see me today?” had become Shen Siqi’s recent catchphrase. She was convinced that her girlfriend was already on her way, so she had abandoned her usual casual style and started dressing up like a little princess every day. Even today, despite it being just a rehearsal, she still cared deeply about her appearance.
However, Shen Siqi was also a little puzzled. Christine had told her that her girlfriend was a beautiful girl who was into music, which she initially treated as a crucial clue. But she soon realized that, as a proper girl group member, she was surrounded by way too many beautiful girls who were into music!
So, Shen Siqi eventually gave up on trying to narrow it down and decided to wait quietly for the other person to find her.
After all, it was only three months she was sure she could wait for her destined one!
Shen Siqi happily took a bite of her vegetable salad and announced, “I have a feeling I’m going to be the first in our group to get into a relationship!”
After she spoke, the room fell silent. No one responded to her words.
To be precise, not only did no one reply, but no one even looked at her, as if they were deliberately avoiding something.
Shen Siqi asked curiously, “Are you guys even listening to me?”
“Ahem. we are,” Yu Tingbai cleared her throat, an uncharacteristically awkward expression flashing across her face. Then she smiled nonchalantly and said, “Well, congratulations in advance then.”
“Thanks, you should learn from me.” Shen Siqi, completely unsuspecting, lowered her head and continued eating her salad.
An Qing couldn’t help but sneak a glance at Yu Tingbai and found that the other girl was also looking at her. Their eyes met, and Yu Tingbai’s gaze was soft and sweet, almost melting her on the spot.
Her fiancee was truly beautiful.
An Qing blinked and mouthed the words “learn from me” to Yu Tingbai.
Yu Tingbai chuckled softly and mouthed back, “As you wish.”
An Qing felt her heart flutter instantly. She averted her gaze and pressed her cheek against the cool surface of the table, trying to cool herself down.
Ah, being in love is wonderful.
“This is just too spectacular.”
The five members of Princess stood in the center of the game arena, exclaiming in unison.
The building they were in resembled a stadium, with three floors, a large footprint, and a spacious interior.
The arena was circular, and around its circumference were individual game zones, each dedicated to several different games. At a glance, one could see a variety of game props in each zone.
The variety show Girl Group Showdown was somewhat unique, with each episode divided into two segments: an indoor stage and an outdoor stage.
The indoor segment took place on a stage and consisted of three randomly selected mini-games. The outdoor segment, on the other hand, had a major theme and was an outdoor reality competition show.
At the start of the indoor segment, the two teams would draw lots to select three games from hundreds of options as the competition events for that episode.
Since there were so many types of games, the production team first arranged for the contestants to visit the dedicated game zones to familiarize themselves with the various events and practice their weaker areas. Afterward, they would rehearse on stage to get used to the show’s flow.
“Everyone, please be careful during the trial play. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask for our help immediately. Don’t get injured.”
While listening to the staff’s explanation, An Qing curiously approached the nearest zone to take a look. This zone contained five games, and the rules for each were posted in detail on the wall.
“The members of ‘Destiny’ had some work to take care of, so they’ll arrive a bit later than you, but they should be here soon.”
“What should I do, what should I do?” Shen Siqi clung to An Qing’s arm, shaking it slightly as she whispered in her ear, “I’m meeting my idol, and I think I’m a little nervous.”
An Qing calmly reassured her, “What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like you’re going on a blind date.”
Shen Siqi nodded, “That’s true.”
Yu Tingbai, who was standing nearby, overheard this and leaned in close to An Qing’s ear, smiling as she whispered, “Not necessarily. These things are hard to predict.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the arena’s large door was pushed open again.
Three slender figures walked in.
At the front was a tall girl wearing a trendy T-shirt and hot pants, revealing two long, straight legs. Her brown, wavy hair was tied into a high ponytail, and her bright, striking eyes held a hint of sharpness. Even standing quietly, she exuded an aura of superiority.
The two girls behind her were slightly shorter, both of the sweet and cute type, following obediently behind the tall girl.
These were the three members of “Destiny.” The tall girl was the leader, Chu Ning, and the other two were Shu Qingyu and Jiang Ran.
“She’s here, she’s here!” Shen Siqi instantly became excited, urgently tugging at the person beside her. “An Qing, take a look at me, how do I look right now?”
Hadn’t she asked this same question just five minutes ago?
An Qing sighed inwardly but still answered earnestly, “Perfect. Trust me.”
Wen Ling glanced at the three approaching figures and crooked a finger at Yi Zhuo, who was standing beside her.
Yi Zhuo immediately leaned down slightly, bringing her ear close to Wen Ling’s lips.
Wen Ling whispered, “If you and Chu Ning got into a fight, who would win?”
Yi Zhuo:
Why would she even have to fight Chu Ning?
But she remembered that when the group first debuted, some people said her appearance and aura somewhat resembled Chu Ning’s. However, everyone described Chu Ning as hot-tempered and sharp-tongued, and she felt she was at least more polite than Chu Ning,
Wen Ling, noticing her silence, pressed, “What’s wrong? Can’t handle it?”
Yi Zhuo twitched her lips. “Up to you.”
Wen Ling: ?
Yi Zhuo smiled. “If you want me to, I can.”
Wen Ling thought seriously for a few seconds. “Then forget it. It’s too much trouble.”
Yi Zhuo was amused and couldn’t resist draping an arm over her shoulder. “Our captain really cares about me.”
Wen Ling paused briefly but didn’t pull away.
While they were talking, the three girls had already approached them.
“Everyone must be tired from the journey. Would you like to rest for a while?” a staff member hurriedly stepped forward to greet them. After receiving a “No need” in response, they turned to the “Princess” members. “You all know each other, right? Should I make introductions?”
“No need.”
Two voices spoke simultaneously one from Wen Ling, the other from Chu Ning.
An inexplicable tension filled the air. The two exchanged a glance, and Chu Ning spoke first.
“I’ve long heard of you.”
She took a step forward and politely extended her hand to Wen Ling.
“You’re too kind.”
Wen Ling smiled courteously, shook her hand gently a couple of times.
The scene appeared harmonious, but An Qing felt a little nervous. After all, in previous shows, Chu Ning had always been the type to challenge everyone and refuse to back down. The eerie atmosphere made An Qing suspect this was merely the calm before the storm.
An Qing glanced at her fiancée beside her, only to find the other watching the two captains with keen interest, showing no signs of worry, as if anticipating something entertaining.
Yikes, She’s even more intimidating than both captains combined.
She then looked over at Shen Siqi on the other side, who was staring intently at Chu Ning, her large, bright eyes unblinking.
An Qing sighed and patted Shen Siqi’s arm. “Your eyeballs are about to fall out.”
Shen Siqi snapped back to reality, instantly embarrassed, and whispered to An Qing with a flushed face, “Their captain is really pretty.”
Unexpectedly, Yi Zhuo overheard and shot her a disapproving glare. “Shen Siqi, whose side are you on?”
Shen Siqi immediately composed herself. “Compared to our captain, she’s still a little lacking.”
The experienced staff member, sensitive to the awkward atmosphere, chuckled lightly.
“Well, since this is a competitive variety show after all, how about everyone warms up first?”
As he spoke, he waved over a behind-the-scenes cameraman, signaling him to come closer. His eyes gleaming with excitement, he suggested, “How about this each team sends one person to exchange some trash talk with the other team? Sounds fun, right? Want to see it?”
An Qing:
I think you want to see it, don’t you?
Chu Ning curled her lips. “Fine. I’ll represent our team.”
Wen Ling turned to consult her teammates. “Then for our team.”
“Captain! Let me do it!” Shen Siqi excitedly raised her hand, eagerly stepping up to Wen Ling and declaring with conviction, “I’ve contributed to the group! I’ve bled for the group!!”
Wen Ling:
Are you sure it’s not because you want to talk to Chu Ning?
But when their adorable youngest member made a request, the older sisters always did their best to fulfill it.
And so Shen Siqi got her wish, standing opposite Chu Ning, pressing a hand to her chest as if trying to calm her racing heart.
Chu Ning sized up the girl before her.
She had an incredibly sweet and adorable face, dressed in a bear-print T-shirt and light blue culottes, with pale-colored canvas sneakers. At that moment, she was clutching her chest, staring at Chu Ning with wide, pleading eyes.
Chu Ning took a step back, frowning. “Do you have a heart condition?”
“No,” Shen Siqi replied, her gaze fixed intently on Chu Ning. “But I might soon.”
Chu Ning:?
Just then, the staff member signaled to proceed. “Let’s begin.”
Chu Ning didn’t bother delving into what was going on with Shen Siqi and went straight for the verbal jab: “I suggest you all first find out what the sales numbers were for Destiny’s debut album!”
An Qing clicked her tongue in disbelief.
Destiny’s debut album, “I Am Your Destiny,” had dominated the charts back then, and its sales figures were nothing short of astronomical.
Chu Ning tucked her hands into her pockets, slightly lowering her gaze to look down at the girl who stood a head shorter than her, her expression radiating an air of arrogant superiority.
An Qing watched with bated breath, unable to help feeling a pang of anxiety for their youngest member.
Although this segment was just for fun and didn’t require anyone to dominate the conversation, and “Destiny” were their seniors, there was no need to act so aggressively.
But Shen Siqi was usually mild-tempered and timid, almost never picking fights with anyone. With Chu Ning being so assertive, An Qing worried that Shen Siqi might end up frightened to tears.
How would their youngest member respond?
To everyone’s surprise, Shen Siqi took a confident step forward and declared loudly, “Well, that’s only because Teacher Chu wrote such amazing songs!”
Everyone else: ???
What are you so proud of?
