I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 15
Que Hanfu took Zhu Xinya straight to the principal’s office.
Principal Zhang naturally recognized Zhu Xinya. Even if he didn’t care about Que Hanfu’s influence, he had to consider the reputation of Zhu Yin, the wealthiest person in Longcheng. After all, the Zhu family had donated generously to the school, it wouldn’t do to let their daughter suffer mistreatment on campus.
Moreover, this wasn’t the first time Principal Zhang had heard about Vice Principal Wang’s favoritism in appointments. Previously, he lacked concrete evidence, but with Zhu Xinya’s recording, Vice Principal Wang would have no excuse left.
Principal Zhang said sternly, “Student Zhu Xinya, Professor Que, I will definitely give you an explanation regarding Vice Principal Wang and Wang Tingxiang. For now, let’s go check the surveillance footage. The umbrella and coat belonging to Zhu Xinya are quite valuable, it’s possible someone was tempted and took them.”
With Principal Zhang personally accompanying Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu to review the footage, the process went smoothly. The security staff quickly identified the individuals who had taken Zhu Xinya’s umbrella and coat.
“It looks like a couple, the young man took the umbrella, and the young woman took the coat,” the security officer said, pointing at the man and woman on the screen.
Zhu Xinya remarked, “Judging by the class schedule, they’re likely first-year chemistry majors.” She glanced at Principal Zhang and added, “Wang Tingxiang is the academic advisor for the chemistry department.”
Principal Zhang said, “I’ll call Wang Tingxiang over.”
After Zhu Xinya and Que Hanfu left, Wang Tingxiang was filled with dread. Lin Han helped her sit down in a chair, where she remained motionless and dazed for a long time.
The others went about their own business, and no one bothered to speak to her. Their enthusiasm had completely faded with Wang Tingxiang’s fall from grace.
After what felt like an eternity, her phone suddenly vibrated. Wang Tingxiang pulled it out and, seeing the caller ID, [Principal Zhang] was so startled that her hand trembled, accidentally hanging up.
Cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and she quickly called back.
The call was answered after just one ring.
Wang Tingxiang said nervously, “Principal Zhang, just now I—”
“Xiao Wang, I’m in the surveillance room right now. Come here immediately. Be quick,” Principal Zhang interrupted, not wanting to hear her excuses, and hung up.
Panicked, Wang Tingxiang stood up, wiped the sweat from her forehead with a tissue, and hurried toward the surveillance room with her phone.
The surveillance room was located next to the security office on the fifth floor of the administration building.
When Wang Tingxiang reached the elevator, she found it under maintenance. Gritting her teeth, she had no choice but to climb the stairs in her seven-centimeter heels.
By the time she made it from the second floor to the fifth and reached the surveillance room, her feet felt completely wrecked.
She paused at the door to catch her breath, thinking she should calm down before entering. Then it occurred to her that appearing breathless might actually demonstrate her eagerness, possibly earning her a bit of Principal Zhang’s favor.
She ruffled her hair a bit, held her breath for several seconds until her face turned red, and then knocked and entered the surveillance room.
Principal Zhang was speaking kindly to Zhu Xinya, “Don’t worry, our school is absolutely fair and just. There’s no way an academic advisor could manipulate exam results.”
Just as he finished speaking, Wang Tingxiang walked in.
Vice Principal Wang had introduced Wang Tingxiang to Principal Zhang before, so he had some recollection of her. But the woman who entered now had disheveled hair, a flushed face, and was breathing so heavily she seemed on the verge of a heart attack. Startled, Principal Zhang stood up and asked, “Who are you?”
Wang Tingxiang brushed the hair away from her face, revealing her flushed cheeks. Panting heavily, she forced an awkward smile and said, “Principal Zhang, I, I’m Wang Tingxiang.”
As Wang Tingxiang moved to approach, Principal Zhang quickly stopped her. “Catch your breath first before coming over.”
Left with no choice, Wang Tingxiang stood stiffly by the door, trying to steady her breathing.
Everyone in the surveillance room was watching her, the security personnel, Zhu Xinya, whom she had inadvertently offended, and Zhu Xinya’s older sister, Que Hanfu. Wang Tingxiang felt both humiliated and regretful. From Principal Zhang’s reaction, it was clear he didn’t find her disheveled state commendable in the slightest. If only she hadn’t pushed herself to the point of such embarrassment.
Once she finally caught her breath, Wang Tingxiang smoothed her hair with her fingers as best she could before walking over to Principal Zhang.
“Principal Zhang, whatever you need, just let me know. I’ll make sure it’s done!”
Zhu Xinya was inwardly exasperated. She had seen foolish people before, but never anyone this foolish did Wang Tingxiang really think clinging to Principal Zhang would solve everything?
Principal Zhang said, “Take a look at the two people in the surveillance footage. Find out which classes they’re in and what their names are.”
Wang Tingxiang loved showing off, and the main targets of her bragging were the students from the classes she managed. Since their scholarships and whether they passed their courses often depended on her word, many students tried to curry favor with her. As a result, Wang Tingxiang was quite familiar with the freshmen in the chemistry department. The moment she saw the surveillance screenshot, she blurted out two names: “Ning Lanlan and Xu Yi!”
Principal Zhang asked, “Which classes are they in? Contact them now and find out where they are.”
Wang Tingxiang replied, “Ning Lanlan is in Class 1 of the chemistry department, and Xu Yi is in Class 3. I’ll contact them right away!”
She sent messages to both of them on QQ. Even though they showed as online, neither responded.
Wang Tingxiang then asked in the chemistry department’s group chat if anyone had seen them. Ning Lanlan’s roommate mentioned seeing her purchase a train ticket back to her hometown. Out of curiosity, the roommate had asked, and Ning Lanlan said there was a family matter and she needed to go home for a while. What’s more, Ning Lanlan had bought two tickets.
Wang Tingxiang immediately reported this to Principal Zhang, but he turned to Zhu Xinya and said, “Zhu Xinya, as the principal, I naturally hope you can give them a chance. But if you choose to report this to the police, I won’t object.”
After picking up Zhu Xinya’s umbrella and coat, these two students had suddenly left the campus most likely to return home and dispose of the stolen goods. They were only freshmen, thinking no one would notice if they took the items. Little did they know the surveillance footage had already exposed them, and buying train tickets home only made them look more suspicious. Even without the surveillance, their sudden departure would raise doubts.
In the footage, both were wearing branded clothes that most ordinary students couldn’t afford, indicating they weren’t in such desperate circumstances that they had to keep lost items.
Zhu Xinya was no saint forgiving someone who had stolen tens of thousands worth of items would be foolish. “I’m calling the police now.”
She tugged gently at Que Hanfu’s hand. Que Hanfu lowered her gaze, her light-colored eyes reflecting Zhu Xinya’s face.
Zhu Xinya said, “Come outside with me for a moment.”
When Que Hanfu didn’t move, Zhu Xinya blushed and added softly, “Please, sister?”
Only then did Que Hanfu step out with her.
Zhu Xinya, holding Que Hanfu’s hand, walked to the outside of the monitoring room and looked up to ask, “Sister, do you think I’m too cruel for choosing to call the police? After all, they’re only freshmen. If they get arrested, their promising futures will be ruined.”
Que Hanfu clasped Zhu Xinya’s hand in return, enveloping her cold fingertips in her palm, and replied indifferently, “It’s not you who ruined their lives, they did it themselves.”
Zhu Xinya’s eyes instantly lit up, shining as brightly as the stars in the night sky, dazzling and radiant.
