I Stole the Male Lead's White Moonlight [Transmigration] - Chapter 1
Sunlight filtered through her thin eyelids, casting a bright white glow before Zhu Xinya’s eyes. Irritated, she stretched out her slender, pale arm and pulled the cloud-soft duvet over her face, covering her eyes.
Zhu Xinya had stayed up until past three in the morning reading a novel, and now her mind was foggy and heavy, she hadn’t gotten nearly enough sleep.
After all, it was Saturday, no classes today. Her roommates had all gone home, leaving her alone in the dorm. She could sleep until noon without anyone disturbing her.
Zhu Xinya hugged the duvet and rolled over, but in her drowsiness, she moved too vigorously, shifting more than half a meter to the left. Half a meter! Her single bed was barely half a meter wide! And it was the top bunk! She was going to fall!
“Ah!” Startled awake in an instant, Zhu Xinya flailed about in a panic, trying to save herself before she even opened her eyes.
After struggling for what felt like ages, she realized she was still safely in bed. Cautiously, she opened her eyes.
A dreamy, pink princess bedroom surrounded her. Beneath her was an extra-large, ultra-soft mattress, and covering her was a lightweight down duvet.
Where was she? How had she ended up sleeping here? Shouldn’t she be in her school dorm?
Thinking she must be dreaming, Zhu Xinya pinched her slender, pale arm hard. “Ouch!” The pain made her shut her eyes, tears welling up and clinging pitifully to her lashes.
When the pain subsided, she opened her eyes again and found herself still in that oversized, fantastical princess room that girls would adore.
She pushed herself up with her hands, then let go, dropping back onto the bed. The mattress bounced gently beneath her.
“Am I not dreaming? But this doesn’t feel like a kidnapping either. My family is so poor, if someone kidnapped me and brought me to a place this nice, wouldn’t I be the one benefiting?” Zhu Xinya climbed out of bed, her feet sinking into the plush carpet. Her sensitive toes curled instinctively, and her neatly trimmed nails showed a soft pink hue.
She cautiously explored the room, and when she reached the full-length mirror, she was startled by the reflection of a fair, delicate version of herself.
Her school had just finished military training her face had peeled from sunburn and darkened by more than a shade. Even before training, she had never been this pale.
Zhu Xinya pressed her face close to the mirror. A cute, wispy bob framed her petite, palm-sized face. Her skin was snow-white, with no visible pores even up close. Her eyebrows were finely shaped, her eyes glistening, and her pink lips curved naturally upward, as if she were always smiling.
Not only was her skin better, but even her features seemed more refined.
“Knock, knock, knock!”
The sudden rapping at the door startled Zhu Xinya. She hurried back to bed, lay down, and pulled the cloud-like duvet over her entire body.
Whoever was outside knocked for a while but, receiving no response, seemed to give up. The knocking didn’t resume.
Zhu Xinya lay stiffly in bed, too afraid to get up even after the knocking stopped.
After what felt like an eternity, she heard the sound of the door opening.
A “click” echoed like thunder in her ears, and then someone entered.
She clenched her teeth, staying perfectly still, but the footsteps drew nearer.
“Yaya, didn’t you say Li Heng invited you for lunch? Why are you still in bed? Let Mom see, my sweet baby, sleeping in again.” A gentle woman’s voice sounded above Zhu Xinya, and the thin duvet covering her was softly pulled aside.
Zhu Xinya was drenched in a cold sweat from fear, and the slight breeze stirred by the lifted quilt sent a shiver through her.
The gentle voice was so familiar, just like her deceased mother.
Unable to resist, Zhu Xinya opened her eyes, and the moment she saw the woman, tears welled up in her eyes.
“Yaya, why are you crying? Did you have a nightmare?” Fang Fang quickly sat by the bed, pulling Zhu Xinya into her arms with a heartbroken expression. “Mom is here, Yaya, don’t be afraid.”
“Mom, I missed you so much.” After the overwhelming fear, the sudden sight of her mother, who had already passed away, made Zhu Xinya burst into uncontrollable sobs in Fang Fang’s embrace.
Zhu Xinya cried for a full half-hour, frightening Fang Fang so much that she began to cry as well.
After half an hour, Zhu Xinya wiped away her tears with her fingers and said apologetically to Fang Fang, “Mom, I just haven’t seen you in so long, and I missed you too much. I’m sorry for scaring you.”
If she could see her mother, this must be heaven.
She thought she must have fallen from her dormitory bed and ended up in heaven to reunite with her mother.
Seeing that Zhu Xinya had finally stopped crying, Fang Fang lovingly smoothed her hair and said with a smile, “It’s only been one night apart, how can it be that long?”
One night? Ah, right, a day in heaven is like three years on earth. By that calculation, since her parents had passed away over a year ago, it really was just one night.
Zhu Xinya wrapped her arms tightly around Fang Fang’s waist, unwilling to let go. Fang Fang simply thought her daughter was being affectionate and gently stroked Zhu Xinya’s hair.
“Mom, where’s Dad?” Zhu Xinya lifted her head and asked expectantly.
Fang Fang replied, “Your dad went to work. He’ll be back in the evening.”
So even after death, there’s no rest? Zhu Xinya’s face showed disappointment.
Having been held by Zhu Xinya while she cried for half an hour, Fang Fang was now covered in sweat. She patted Zhu Xinya’s back and said gently, “Yaya, Li Heng will be here soon to take you out for a meal. If you don’t get up now, you won’t have time to dress up beautifully to see Li Heng.”
“Who is Li Heng?” No one was more important than her mother.
Zhu Xinya tightened her arms around Fang Fang, she hadn’t held her nearly enough.
Fang Fang’s tone was resigned. “Li Heng is your fiancé. Yaya, stop joking with your mom.”
“My fiancé?” Zhu Xinya slowly began to sense something was off. “What fiancé?” She had never even had a boyfriend.
Zhu Xinya released her hold and shifted back, her moist eyes looking at Fang Fang with hesitation and suspicion.
Only then did she carefully observe Fang Fang.
The woman before her looked much younger than her mother, with well-maintained skin and an elegant demeanor. Her gaze was gentle and full of affection.
Zhu Xinya almost burst into tears again.
Before her mother passed away, life’s hardships had left her face covered in fine wrinkles, her eyes dull and clouded nothing like the clear, bright eyes of the woman in front of her.
If this wasn’t her mother, then where was she? Who was this fiancé named Li Heng and was she still Zhu Xinya?
[Do not doubt you are still Zhu Xinya.]
[Who’s speaking?] Everything around Zhu Xinya froze.
[Do you remember the novel you read last night? I am the god who created that world. You lost both your parents and lived in hardship. After reading about the happy life of a supporting character with the same name in the novel, you made a wish to become the daughter of a wealthy family and see your parents again. I heard your wish and decided to grant it.]
【From now on, you are Zhu Xinya, the only daughter of the wealthiest family in Longcheng. Her parents are your parents. Everything she possesses, you will possess as well.】
Zhu Xinya slowly digested the words spoken by the “god.”
In the novel she had read last night, there was indeed a supporting female character with the same name as her. In the early parts of the story, Zhu Xinya had genuinely envied the fictional “Zhu Xinya,” but that character was merely a cannon fodder who obstructed the main couple’s relationship! In the later stages, her family was ruined, and her fate was particularly tragic!
[God, why didn’t you ask me before granting my wish? This isn’t what I wished for at all!]
[Wishes, once granted, are non-refundable. The moment you entered the book, your body in the real world had already died.]
[Here, you will have parents who love you, just like your real parents. Don’t you truly want to have all of this?] the god tempted.
Zhu Xinya hesitated. She glanced at Fang Fang. If her own mother were living a life of luxury, she would surely look just like this.
[Return to become a corpse, vanishing from the world or stay.]
Zhu Xinya reached out and hugged the motionless Fang Fang. If what the “god” said was true, she had only one choice.
[I choose to stay.]
