I Ran Away After Flirting with the Goddess - Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Shen Lishu finished her cigarette before coming out.
Fortunately, Director Mao was busy discussing the plot with the screenwriter; otherwise, he would have nagged her for a good while.
An Rongrong was in the middle of a makeup touch-up. She caught a glimpse of Shen Lishu’s figure out of the corner of her eye, and before she could even speak, her face turned red.
Before they had actually kissed, An Rongrong’s head was filled with thoughts of kiss scene NGs (No-Goods) and reshooting bed scenes the more provocative, the better. That 180-mph off-road vehicle in her mind was driving recklessly toward the edge of the city.
Yet, after actual “combat,” the person who ended up being shy was actually her.
An Rongrong: This isn’t scientific!
Their eyes met briefly and then darted away. Neither said a word. An Rongrong sat in her chair, her hands twisting together anxiously.
Did the Goddess kiss me just now because she hadn’t snapped out of character yet?
It wasn’t that An Rongrong was overthinking; it was that Shen Lishu was just too straight. She had been a fan of Best Actress Shen for so many years, and she had never seen her have any “lesbian energy” with any girl. All her scandal partners were men. How could such a straight woman suddenly come out of the closet and like her?
An Rongrong only imagined that kind of plot in her dreams at night.
So, the scene in the restroom was likely just an accident. After all, she herself had over-empathized with her character last night and went ahead and force-kissed Shen Lishu. Even though the Goddess was an elite actress with top-tier professional skills, she was still human. Maybe she had moments where she was slow to exit a role too.
Yesterday, she didn’t exit her role and kissed Shen Lishu; today, she got kissed back by a Shen Lishu who hadn’t exited her role. She had essentially harvested a double portion of happiness!
An Rongrong began to secretly hope that the Goddess would also be “too deep in character” during the bed scenes. Once the drama finished filming, An Rongrong would definitely ask Director Mao for a copy of the original footage the unedited version. She’d save it to watch during those quiet nights when she was doing some “DIY.”
An Rongrong let her mind wander to distract herself. By the time she looked at Shen Lishu again, she was much more composed. She even gave Shen Lishu a big, sweet smile when the woman looked over.
Shen Lishu: Shen Lishu’s eyelid twitched. She couldn’t help but feel that this kid was a bit of a ditz.
When Director Mao finished discussing the plot and returned, he looked refreshed. Clearly, the screenwriter hadn’t won the argument.
“Listen to me, we’re shooting the next part like this,” Director Mao asked the group, “Is the makeup finished?”
The makeup artist sped up. “Done, done.”
“Night Scene 4, Take 3 of Sink, ‘The Difference,’ Action!”
Luo Yue gripped the strap of her shoulder bag, calling out stiffly, “Supervisor Ye.”
Ye Tan gave a soft “mm” from her nose in response. Seeing Luo Yue’s unease, she took the initiative to start a conversation. “Do you need to use the restroom?”
Ye Tan stubbed out the cigarette in her hand. “Then I’ll head back first.”
“Oh, okay, o-okay.” Luo Yue stammered.
She had originally come out to escape the drinking; she hadn’t expected to run into Ye Tan, much less discover that Supervisor Ye smoked. The image of the woman leaning against the window with a cigarette burned into Luo Yue’s mind, refusing to leave.
Perhaps because she had been a “good girl” since childhood, she harbored a hidden rebellious streak. To Luo Yue, the Ye Tan she just saw was breathtakingly beautiful. There was a decadent aesthetic about her that made her want to draw closer.
Luo Yue walked in as Ye Tan was leaving. As they brushed past each other, Luo Yue caught the scent of tobacco on the other woman, while Ye Tan smelled the alcohol on her.
Ye Tan paused slightly, glancing at Luo Yue with surprise. It was as if she never expected her to drink. It turned out both of them had a different side behind closed doors.
“Night Scene 4, Take 4 of Sink, ‘Drinking,’ Action!”
Ye Tan returned to the private room. The men, who had been rowdy, reigned it in a bit. She sat lazily in her chair with her legs crossed, slowly sipping plain water to wash away the taste of smoke in her mouth.
“Supervisor, are you going vegetarian today? You’ve stopped drinking and started on water?” someone asked. Everyone noticed that Ye Tan was indeed drinking water.
Ye Tan looked up lazily. “Got a problem?”
“No, no, not at all.”
Being able to ask that indicated the person was already mostly drunk. Amidst the joking, Luo Yue pushed the door open and returned. Having stepped out for a bit, the flush on her face had faded significantly.
Seeing her return, the male colleagues got excited again, like hungry wolves spotting a bone, completely forgetting that Ye Tan was back.
“We thought you’d left!”
“Come, come, come. We weren’t finished just now. Let’s keep drinking.”
Luo Yue bit her lip and sat back down, right next to Ye Tan’s left side. She lowered her head and placed her bag behind her, feeling deep regret. She should have just left, but she was unlucky enough to run into Ye Tan in the restroom. Fearing that sneaking away would leave a bad impression on the supervisor, she forced herself to come back.
Being a newcomer was too hard.
As soon as Luo Yue sat down, someone approached with a wine glass.
“I’m taking advantage of being older and calling myself your Brother Li,” the male colleague named Li said, flashing a “cool” smile over his beer belly. “Brother is toasting you; you can’t refuse to give me face, right?”
Men are such creatures no matter their age or how out of shape they are, they always think of themselves as youths, believing they are naturally loved by women and that everyone owes them “face.”
Ordinary yet confident.
Luo Yue detested these occasions, loathing the endless cycle of toasts. But the man was standing right beside her, clearly not intending to leave until she drank. Smelling the greasy alcohol on him, Luo Yue felt an indescribable disgust. She even felt a sudden impulse to slam the table and quit on the spot.
At worst, she’d just stop working here. But this company was truly good; it would be a shame to leave after working so hard to pass the interview. Besides, her parents would nag her if they found out, saying that no job is easy and that she was just being too sensitive.
Resisting, Luo Yue reached for the glass, feeling so wronged she wanted to cry.
Just then, a hand suddenly reached across and covered the top of her glass. Luo Yue froze and followed the sight of that well-defined, pale, and beautiful hand to her right, meeting Ye Tan’s eyes.
Ye Tan frowned slightly, her voice sounding casual. “If you don’t like drinking, don’t drink.”
Seeing Luo Yue looking like she was about to cry, Ye Tan knew she didn’t actually enjoy the alcohol. Luo Yue’s eyes shimmered, her nose felt hot, and tears nearly fell. She sniffled and whispered, “Supervisor Ye.”
“Supervisor Ye,” the man’s voice directly drowned out Luo Yue’s. Li rested his left hand on his protruding belly and gave a sheepish laugh. “Luo Yue didn’t say she didn’t like it.”
“Everyone is drinking. It’s bad to be a killjoy; people will think Luo Yue isn’t a team player. It’ll be hard for her to make friends in the company later.”
Luo Yue bit her lip and looked at Ye Tan, her eyes rimmed with red. There was a stubborn glint in her eyes, as if saying: Who cares?
Ye Tan smiled. So, she had thorns after all. Her gaze moved from Luo Yue’s face, her eyes shimmering as she asked the man, “You want everyone to have a good time, right?”
The man didn’t catch her drift and answered a beat late, “Yes.”
Ye Tan nodded slowly. She raised her voice and asked the room, “Who else wants to drink with Luo Yue? Raise your hands so I can see.”
The male colleagues were already dazed from drinking. Thinking Supervisor Ye was going to start a big game, they all raised their hands high, shouting, “Me, me, me! Me first!”
Luo Yue clenched her fingers. Her warm heart turned half-cold, and the light in her eyes dimmed as she bit her lower lip.
Ye Tan scanned the room, stood up, grabbed an unopened bottle of liquor, and slammed it on the table. “I’ll drink on Luo Yue’s behalf. We’ll drink until you’ve had your fill.”
Luo Yue looked up at her in shock.
Ye Tan opened the bottle with practiced, swift movements. Her lips curled into a mocking smile as she looked at the group of silent male colleagues. “What’s the matter? No balls?”
The faces of the ones who had raised their hands highest were a sight to behold. They looked at each other and finally gritted their teeth to pick up their glasses.
Glasses?
“Are you raising goldfish?” Ye Tan looked at them with disdain and signaled the waiter to bring them bottles instead. “Didn’t you want to have a good time? I’ll make sure you have enough fun today.”
Ye Tan had never once been drunk when it came to alcohol. After several rounds, several colleagues couldn’t even make it to the restroom and turned their heads to vomit. Ye Tan, as if nothing had happened, drank straight from the bottle.
Once they were finished vomiting and had sobered up a bit, Ye Tan set the empty bottle on the table. Her gaze turned cold, though her voice remained slow and lazy.
“From now on, at company dinners, if you want to drink, drink by yourselves. Don’t use ‘not being a team player’ to coerce others. If I hear that again, you can crawl out of my department.”
Ye Tan’s performance was always the best; she had the capital to be arrogant in the company. Moreover, she was one of the founders alongside another hands-off partner. Hearing this, the male colleagues were as quiet as mice, not daring to make a sound.
Ye Tan, disgusted by the sour stench of vomit in the room, picked up her shawl from the chair. “Call yourselves a car home.”
As she stood up, she noticed Luo Yue’s gaze. She looked down and asked, “Coming?”
Luo Yue’s eyes hadn’t left Ye Tan since the drinking match began. At first, she was worried she’d get drunk, but by the end, her eyes were full of admiration. Still dazed, she looked up at her.
Ye Tan looked down at her, her voice softening—completely different from her cold attitude just now. “In the future, if you don’t want to do something, just say so. Whether it’s drinking or working.”
“You’re here to work, not to be a bar hostess.”
Luo Yue’s defenses instantly crumbled. She lowered her head and gave a muffled “mm.”
Ye Tan reached out and patted her head comfortingly, unable to help a light laugh. “Still just a kid.”
Luo Yue’s gaze trembled. Her heart seemed to skip a beat. It was impossible for Luo Yue not to fall for a Ye Tan like this.
It was impossible for An Rongrong not to fall for a Shen Lishu who acted with such doting affection.
“Cut!” Director Mao gave a “satisfied” gesture, ending the shoot for this take. “Wrap it up, wrap it up!” The actors playing the male colleagues stretched, said their goodbyes, and left.
With the day’s filming over, An Rongrong fiddled with her phone and then her chair, lingering because she wanted to wait for Shen Lishu to change her clothes so they could leave together. Her intention was so obvious that even Xiao Zhang noticed.
“Rongrong, come inside and wait.” Xiao Zhang held the door open for her, thinking that since they were both women, there was no need to avoid each other so strictly.
An Rongrong shook her head frantically. Girl, you’re playing with fire!
