I Raise My Wife in a Supernatural Story (Infinite) - Chapter 54
“The Kunlun Mountains traverse the western region, with magnificent and precipitous terrain. The peaks are covered in snow year-round. They begin from the eastern Pamir Plateau in the west and extend to the upper reaches of the Chaidamu River in the east.” — Source: Baidu Encyclopedia.
These were the introductions to the Kunlun Mountains that Qi Yan found online, but they were worlds apart from what she actually wanted to understand.
Since returning from the desolate mountain terrace, she had been clutching her laptop to research information on Kunlun. Bai Qing leaned beside her, watching her work.
This all stemmed from the Mountain God Granny they had met at the terrace. The old woman had not said much to Bai Qing; aside from agreeing to help find people, she had only asked about the Kunlun Realm and other demons.
Qi Yan had been completely lost during the conversation. Once the Mountain God Granny left, she began pestering Bai Qing with questions.
There was too much to explain, so on the way down the mountain, Bai Qing provided only a brief summary of what the Kunlun Realm was.
“I was born on the snowy peaks of the Kunlun Immortal Mountain. After my birth, I did not know who my parents were. The Mountain God Granny said I was born of heaven and earth, so I simply believed her.”
Shortly after Bai Qing’s birth, a tremor shook the Kunlun Immortal Mountain, destroying the cave where she grew up and cultivated. Consequently, she was cast out to the base of the mountain, wandering and practicing her cultivation in various places. As she had mentioned before, a rare heterochromatic-eyed nine-tailed fox became a coveted prize for many evil cultivators. At that time, she was weak and had to stay in hiding.
“The Kunlun Immortal Mountain can have earthquakes?” Qi Yan, a little genius at catching the wrong point, never failed to surprise.
Bai Qing glanced at her and said with a smile, “Any mountain can have an earthquake.”
“But is it not an immortal mountain? A place where gods live should not be so precarious.”
“There have been no gods on the Kunlun Immortal Mountain for a long time; they all moved to the Heavenly Palace.” Bai Qing shook her head and laughed. “For a long time, it became the most sought-after place for spirits to cultivate. Even though the gods left, the mountain still holds the most abundant essence of heaven and earth.”
“Then what is the Kunlun Realm that the Mountain God Granny mentioned? Did you return to live on the mountain later?”
Bai Qing nodded. “Yes. Later, I returned to Kunlun and claimed a territory around the Celestial Pool at the peak of Yuxu Peak. I used it as my residence and took in many other demons.”
Over the past thousand years, Bai Qing had encountered many demons and humans. Some were good, and some were bad. Most who provoked her were eliminated, while she offered protection to those who were truly kind.
Powerful as she was, she always had the strength to help others. Although she usually appeared lazy and seemed to focus on herself, Qi Yan understood her. Her self-interest did not conflict with her willingness to help others.
Qi Yan scratched her head again. “That Mountain God Granny, does she manage all the mountains?”
Bai Qing confirmed this. “In a sense, yes. Every mountain has a manifestation of her. The one we met was one of them.”
The affairs of gods were difficult to grasp. Qi Yan returned home feeling dizzy, but not before buying the egg-filled pancakes she had been craving. She even fed one to Bai Qing.
Once they settled in at home, Qi Yan began searching for Kunlun-related topics on her computer. However, the information available on the internet was limited to realistic geographical and cultural records, which had little to do with what she wanted to know.
Seeing Qi Yan’s interest in Kunlun, Bai Qing became curious. “Do you want to visit the Kunlun Mountains?”
“Is that not your home?” Qi Yan asked. “The Mountain God Granny mentioned the Kunlun Realm. Do you not want to go back and see it? I wonder how the demons you protected are doing now.”
Bai Qing rarely showed her internal emotional fluctuations. Those who did not know her could easily be fooled by her lazy exterior, but Qi Yan shared a deep connection with her and understood her true feelings.
The turmoil of a century ago seemed to have affected the entire Spiritual Realm. This realm included various cultivators, demons, spirits, humans, and ghosts. Anyone who had cultivated enough to potentially enter the immortal realm but had not yet done so fell into this category.
Bai Qing herself had been sealed within the Supernatural Scripts a hundred years ago. How were the spirits in the Kunlun Realm faring? Had they escaped the catastrophe? Bai Qing was not certain, and it was a matter that weighed on her mind.
After a moment of silence, Bai Qing said, “I am somewhat concerned, but there is no rush. My own soul has not yet fully recovered. No matter how anxious I am, I cannot do much from this distance.”
She remained calm and understood the immediate priorities.
“There are still many things about these scripts that need to be clarified.” Bai Qing reached out and touched the ends of Qi Yan’s wavy hair. “My current plan is to follow you and fully escape from the scripts. We can worry about other things after that.”
Qi Yan thought about it and realized there was no other choice. She was a mortal and knew nothing about what had happened a hundred years ago. Human history did not record the events of the Spiritual Realm, so she had no place to start.
Noticing her worry, Bai Qing smiled and reassured her, “Do not think too much. Your priority is to prepare for the next script. The Granny will give me answers tomorrow. We still need to find your teammates.”
The Mountain God Granny was well-versed in human affairs. Finding a few people was not difficult. As long as they were on this land, there was no one the mountain and land deities could not find.
The next day, Qi Yan woke up early to go hiking with Bai Qing. They stopped to rest at the terrace and received news from the Mountain God Granny.
Of the four people Qi Yan had met in her first two scripts, all three women had been found, except for Huo Zheng.
“Tang Shanshan is in the capital, Sister Sanshui is in the northwest, and Xin Yi is the closest to us, in the next city within the same province.”
The Mountain God Granny also provided specific addresses. Tang Shanshan was at a university, while Jiang Miao and Xin Yi were at their workplaces.
Looking at the addresses, Qi Yan fell silent. Aside from Tang Shanshan, the work addresses of the other two were quite shocking.
Jiang Miao — Northwest Museum Archaeological Research Center.
Xin Yi, C City Public Security Bureau, Criminal Investigation Detachment.
They were clearly impressive individuals.
Bai Qing had already learned the basics of modern society and knew that a public security bureau was like a constabulary. As for the archaeological museum, she was not quite sure what that entailed.
Qi Yan explained, “It is a place where history is studied. Archaeology involves excavating ancient tombs and studying burials to learn about history.”
Bai Qing raised an eyebrow. “Grave robbing?”
“It is not grave robbing. Archaeology is an official activity. It involves historical research while ensuring the integrity of the tomb is protected. It is completely different from grave robbing, which is illegal.”
Bai Qing nodded in understanding.
Qi Yan rubbed her chin and used a fork to feed a piece of apple to Bai Qing. The movement was natural and smooth.
“Let’s start with the one nearby. We will go to C City tomorrow to find Xin Yi.”
As a fox and a pure carnivore, Bai Qing did not particularly enjoy fruit, but she ate what Qi Yan fed her.
Their relationship was warming up, and feeding each other had become second nature to Qi Yan. Neither of them felt anything was wrong.
Traveling to the neighboring city was easy. There was a bus that ran directly between the two cities. Qi Yan bought the tickets in advance, and they set off the next day.
To help Bai Qing integrate into modern society, Qi Yan took her to a mall to buy several outfits. The fox preferred white, so the shirts and t-shirts they bought were all in shades of white. These were paired with comfortable jeans and casual trousers, creating a clean look.
Qi Yan was very satisfied seeing Bai Qing wear the clothes she had bought. Bai Qing had wanted to hide inside the ring to save trouble, but Qi Yan refused. She insisted that Bai Qing had to wear the new clothes in public. Bai Qing could do nothing but comply.
A person as beautiful as Bai Qing would undoubtedly turn heads on the street. With Qi Yan by her side, who was also beautiful but had a different aura, the two of them commanded total attention.
One was stunningly beautiful, classical, and noble, while the other was a fresh and sweet girl next door. The chemistry between them was remarkable.
While they were waiting in line at the station, a couple walked by. The man was instantly drawn to the two women. His eyes were practically glued to them.
His girlfriend noticed and pulled his ear to make him turn away. The man pleaded, “No, baby, I think the girls on the street are not as beautiful as you!”
Qi Yan heard this and burst out laughing. she leaned close to Bai Qing and whispered, “With your looks, you will be noticed by everyone wherever you go.”
Bai Qing looked down at her and whispered back, “But they are also looking at you.”
“Of course, because I am also a great beauty.” Qi Yan tossed her long hair and said proudly, “We are the coolest ones on this street.”
While she was being vain, a young girl approached and stared at Bai Qing. She then whispered excitedly to her friend.
Bai Qing was sensitive to the gazes of others. She turned to look, and the two girls quickly looked away. However, when they saw Qi Yan tuck her arm into Bai Qing’s, they let out a small gasp.
Bai Qing still did not understand why these humans were so excited just by looking at her and Qi Yan.
Qi Yan did not know either, but she did not care. The bus had arrived at the station, and she led Bai Qing toward it.
The two girls were standing not far behind them, still whispering. Thanks to Bai Qing helping clear her meridians and blood flow over the past two days, Qi Yan’s hearing was much stronger than that of a normal person. While she could not compare to long-term cultivators, she surpassed ordinary people.
This was after only two days. She could hardly imagine what would happen over time. The cooperation between Daoist partners was incredibly powerful.
With her sharp hearing, Qi Yan heard the girls discussing them. “Those two beauties are definitely a couple. Who do you think is the dominant one?”
Qi Yan was confused. How could they tell just by looking?
“How can you be sure they are a couple? What if they are just good friends?”
Qi Yan nodded inwardly. Exactly, what if they were just good friends?
“You don’t understand. Aside from everything else, they are wearing rings! On their left ring fingers! Matching couple rings!”
Her companion exclaimed, “Good eye! I didn’t even see that!”
Qi Yan looked down at the ring on her left hand and then at Bai Qing’s. Her feelings were complicated.
Finally, she thought to herself, if you knew we were already married, it would scare you to death!
