- Chapter 82 - The Disabled Tycoon and Her Little Sweetheart
“Can I… stay the night?”
Outside the door, Mang Ke was a little flustered. She was still carrying the things she had bought, but the snacks were now completely cold from all the rushing back and forth.
Xun Fangyun glanced at Mang Ke and said to the maid, “Auntie, you go rest first. Let Mang Ke sleep here with me.”
Having been with the family for so long, the maid naturally understood the relationship between the two and didn’t say much. She simply fetched a new nightgown and told Mang Ke to get some rest early.
Hugging the new sleepwear, Mang Ke realized she had been somewhat panicked. The incident was too sudden, and the only person she could think of was Xun Fangyun.
“I…” Mang Ke said, blushing, “I’ll sleep on the floor.”
Xun Fangyun ignored her, instead moving her body to make room: “Come up.”
Mang Ke held the clothes, feeling at a loss: “I haven’t showered yet…”
Xun Fangyun said calmly, “Then shower first. There’s a bathroom in my room.”
Mang Ke’s face grew even redder now.
The digital clock by the bed ticked over two pages before Mang Ke finally nodded and hurried to the bathroom to take a shower and calm down.
The rush of warm water made Mang Ke feel very comfortable; the fear and worry from earlier were swept away. Looking in the mirror through the white mist, Mang Ke noticed her cheeks were unusually red.
Had she looked like that just now?
Mang Ke couldn’t help but cover her eyes and crouch down. If so, that was truly embarrassing.
The shower lasted a full half hour. Mang Ke felt she had soaked off a layer of skin and only came out of the bathroom when she really couldn’t stay any longer.
Xun Fangyun was still sitting on the bed, reading, yet she seemed distracted; the book was still open to the same page as before.
She looked up at Mang Ke, who had dried her hair and was wearing a pink nightgown, and couldn’t help but let out a small cough. “It’s getting late. We should… go to sleep.”
Mang Ke was a little nervous. She looked at Xun Fangyun with a red face and saw that she had already closed the book and placed it beside the bed, looking as if she were waiting for Mang Ke to join her.
“I…” Mang Ke said, blushing, “I might have some minor quirks when I sleep. If I snore or grind my teeth or something, you can wake me up.”
“Do you?” Xun Fangyun looked at her and smiled. “I’ve slept with you for so long before, and I never noticed you had that problem.”
Mang Ke looked at her, blushing. Indeed, the two of them had already slept together, and done more intimate things, but having to start over in the real world made her feel a little shy.
Tiptoeing, Mang Ke climbed into bed and curled up into a ball in the corner, only to be pulled over by Xun Fangyun.
“Sleeping that far out makes it easy to fall,” Xun Fangyun said lightly, burying her head in Mang Ke’s neck and shoulder. “Besides, aren’t you cold?”
With that, Xun Fangyun reached out and tightened her arm around Mang Ke’s waist, pulling her into her embrace.
Mang Ke, muffled under the covers, said, “The air conditioning is on, it’s not cold at all…”
Rather than cold, she felt hot all over, being held by Xun Fangyun.
Mang Ke couldn’t help but turn to look at Xun Fangyun, who was lying behind her with her eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
Wouldn’t sleeping like this be uncomfortable?
Mang Ke remembered that her body was still recovering; her legs weren’t well, and neither was her throat. Could her throat be hurting again after talking so much just now?
Thinking this, Mang Ke couldn’t help but turn over, wrapping her arms around Xun Fangyun’s neck and pulling her into her own embrace.
Xun Fangyun opened her eyes and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Mang Ke whispered, closing her eyes. “This way, you’ll sleep a little more comfortably.”
Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but smile. She gently slipped her leg over Mang Ke’s, saying softly, “This will be even more comfortable.”
Mang Ke’s ears were flushed, but she hugged Xun Fangyun even tighter…
Mang Ke did not sleep well all night. She felt as though she was being held underwater while sleeping—gasping for air and feeling heavy. Only when she woke up in the early morning did she realize that Xun Fangyun had her completely entangled, using both her hands and feet. The girls’ nightgowns were both wrinkled.
Mang Ke wanted to reach out and straighten her skirt under the blanket, but she accidentally touched Xun Fangyun’s leg directly. She recoiled as if shocked by electricity, her small face flushed red, and she dared not move.
Time passed slowly. Mang Ke remained held by Xun Fangyun, unable to stop staring at her.
She looked at her slender eyebrows, her beautiful eyelashes, and her straight nose.
The more she looked, the more Mang Ke felt that Xun Fangyun had truly inherited her mother’s best features: fair skin, beautiful looks, and thick hair. If she had been able to grow up safely and completely, she surely would have been a very beautiful girl.
As she thought this, Mang Ke felt both curious and helpless—Why isn’t she awake yet? I’ve been watching her for over an hour.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the dining room, Xun’s mother was drinking a cup of freshly ground coffee. The coffee beans were imported from New Zealand. The coffee machine couldn’t grind them too fast or too slow; it had to grind them over and over until the coffee was fine enough—that was the perfect moment to drink it.
Every morning, the maid would wake up early to brew a cup of freshly ground coffee for Xun’s mother as the first aroma to wake her up.
Xun’s mother took a sip of the newly served coffee. The rich flavor filled her nostrils and tongue, the strong taste stimulating her taste buds. She enjoyed this feeling, as if every cell in her body had been awakened.
“Where is Yunyun?” Xun’s mother asked lightly. “It’s this late already. Why isn’t she up?”
The maid looked at Xun Fangyun’s door and said, “Miss might still be resting.”
Xun’s mother said lightly, “She never sleeps late. What’s going on today?”
The maid paused for a moment before replying, “Miss Mang Ke came over last night, saying her house was burglarized, so she stayed the night in Miss’s room. Now, the two of them are probably… still resting.”
Xun’s mother was a little surprised, but upon careful thought, she didn’t find it strange.
Anyone who wasn’t an idiot could see the way her daughter looked at this girl. Before, Xun’s mother had tried hinting that she should like someone else, but she realized that approach didn’t seem to work on her daughter.
Ultimately, Mang Ke was Xun Fangyun’s savior, the only person who woke her up. Therefore, Xun’s mother didn’t have much of an objection to the two of them being together. Her family was already very wealthy, and Mang Ke’s conditions in every aspect weren’t bad. As long as the two of them were willing…
Xun’s mother took a sip of coffee and said calmly, “Then don’t disturb them. Let them sleep a little longer.”
They slept until past ten in the morning. In fact, Xun Fangyun had been awake for a while; she had only been resting with her eyes closed for fear of disturbing Mang Ke, but she didn’t expect the other girl to stare at her all morning.
As a result, the two of them ended up taking a second nap together and were ‘forced’ to get up only around ten o’clock.
Mang Ke blushed as she helped Xun Fangyun get dressed, then helped her put on her socks and shoes. She then scratched her cheek and said, “Let’s go out.”
Xun Fangyun’s room was on the first floor, so stepping out led right to the living room. As the two were heading to the dining room to see what was available to eat, they saw Xun’s mother leaning on the leather sofa, watching TV. Hearing their movement, she said without raising her head, “Awake now?”
The two jumped in surprise. Usually, Xun’s mother would be at the company by this time. Why was she here?
And judging by her manner, she seemed to already know what had happened between them.
Mang Ke’s hand on the wheelchair couldn’t help but tighten nervously. Xun Fangyun, however, spoke up, “Mom, why are you here?”
“Can’t I be here?” Xun’s mother looked back at them and said, “There’s breakfast ready in the dining room. Eat a little, and then I want to talk to you about something.”
“Breakfast is not urgent,” Xun Fangyun said. “It’s almost noon anyway; we can eat together. Mom, if you have something to say, just say it.”
“Alright then,” Xun’s mother turned to face them and said, “Recently, all your uncles, aunts, and cousins in the family have been advising me to find someone to marry you for ‘good luck.’ I thought about it, and since you’ve been ill for several years, we should find someone to bring you some good fortune.”
Xun Fangyun frowned: “Mom, I never knew you believed in such things.”
‘Marrying for good luck’ (Chongxi) sounded unreliable.
Moreover, she didn’t want to marry anyone other than Mang Ke, let alone a complete stranger for ‘good luck.’
Xun’s mother looked curiously at the slightly annoyed Xun Fangyun and the bewildered Mang Ke, and couldn’t help but smile. “Did I say who the person for ‘good luck’ is?”
Xun Fangyun: “…Mom?”
“I see your relationship is quite good, and you’ve gone through so much. Don’t you want to be together?” Xun’s mother said with a light chuckle. “I’m not a rigid or conservative parent. I watched that experiment from start to finish, so I naturally know the nature of your relationship.”
Xun’s mother continued, “Besides, Mang Ke is a good girl. If you don’t want her, I won’t hold her back, but this is up to you two.”
Even Xun Fangyun’s usually thick skin couldn’t help but redden. She cleared her throat and looked back at Mang Ke, whose face was red and practically steaming, and asked, “What do you think, Xiao Ke?”
Mang Ke was somewhat lost: “I…”
Is this a proposal?
Mang Ke had never even dated, let alone been proposed to. Being asked so suddenly made her feel flustered.
Should she agree?
Seeing her daughter’s tone, which sounded as if she were merely asking what to eat for lunch, Xun’s mother sighed and said, “Xiao Ke, you don’t have to rush to answer so soon. You mentioned yesterday that your house was burglarized. Did you call the police?”
Mang Ke snapped back to reality and said nervously, “No, I ran out as soon as I heard a sound in the room. I didn’t have time to do anything.”
Xun’s mother instructed, “In that kind of situation, you should always call the police first, or the thief will escape and not be caught.”
Mang Ke nodded: “I’m sorry…”
“I don’t mean to blame you,” Xun’s mother said, smiling. “I’ll arrange for my assistant to handle things at your place. You can stay here for the time being. I’ve already had people buy some things you might need.”
Xun’s mother added, “This is also a good opportunity to improve your relationship as a couple.”
Xun Fangyun: “…Cough.” (Blushing)
Mang Ke: “!!!!”
