- Chapter 74 - Disabled Big Shot and Her Little Sweetheart
“She woke up.”
Si Nan’s words kept echoing in Mang Ke’s mind. She grabbed her bag and rushed downstairs. A taxi instinctively pulled up beside her, and she needed to fly over there immediately!!!
“I’ve already made the call,” Si Nan said to Xun Fangyun in the bed while tidying up. “You are the first patient I’ve seen wake up in my professional career. How are you feeling right now?”
“I feel so heavy…”
Xun Fangyun’s voice was deep and husky. Every word felt like sandpaper scraping against her throat, both painful and itchy.
Si Nan lifted her chin and shone a flashlight into her throat. “You haven’t spoken in too long. Your throat might be very painful at first, but these are minor issues; they will gradually recover with rest.”
She smiled lightly at the woman before her. “Speaking of which, why did you ask me to find Mang Ke the moment you woke up? You… couldn’t possibly know her, right?”
Xun Fangyun touched her throat. She didn’t respond to Si Nan’s question, instead closing her eyes slightly.
Seeing that she was unwilling to talk, Si Nan shrugged helplessly and said to the nurse, “Help pack up the things. I’m going to get some medicine.”
“Yes, Dr. Si.”
After the doctor and nurse left, Xun Fangyun looked down at her legs under the covers. They seemed to… lack sensation?
After stepping out and prescribing a lot of medicine, and instructing the nanny/caregiver on certain precautions, Si Nan saw a figure in a white down jacket rush in frantically, looking around with a nervous expression.
Si Nan greeted the nanny and asked them to leave, then turned and walked toward Mang Ke.
“Little Ke.”
Si Nan looked at her. “Why did you arrive so quickly? I thought it would take you a while to get here.”
Mang Ke turned to look at her, excitedly grabbing her hand. “Where is Xun Fangyun? Is she alright?”
Si Nan was suddenly grabbed by the hand, her cheeks flushed slightly. She cleared her throat and said, “She’s fine. She just woke up, and many memories are a bit confused, but I believe she will be better after a while.”
Seeing Mang Ke’s slightly anxious expression, Si Nan took her hand and said, “I’ll take you to the ward to see her, even though I don’t understand why you care about her so much.”
“Thank you,” Mang Ke said awkwardly. “I can’t tell you how I know her right now…”
“It’s okay,” Si Nan smiled. “You have so many friends. It’s not a big deal if I don’t know one or two of them. You don’t need to report everything to me.”
“Mhm…”
Mang Ke looked at Si Nan. If possible, she truly wanted to introduce her friend to Xun Fangyun. She believed Xun Fangyun would definitely like Si Nan.
Si Nan was gentle, stable, and a doctor, with a good job and a good personality. Mang Ke felt there was no reason for Xun Fangyun not to like her.
When Mang Ke stood at the door of the ward, she saw Xun Fangyun lifting her shirt for the attending physician to listen to her chest. With her back turned, Xun Fangyun couldn’t see Mang Ke or Si Nan.
Si Nan glanced at Mang Ke and said, “My Master is examining her body. Let’s not disturb her for now.”
Mang Ke stood where she was and asked, “Can I wait here?”
Si Nan was a little confused but didn’t refuse Mang Ke’s request. She simply told her to stand by the door and went into the room to help.
“Get all these tests done today to see what’s going on with your body,” the middle-aged doctor told Xun Fangyun’s caregiver. “Have the family members arrived yet?”
“The family is still out of town and is rushing over. They should be on their way now.”
“Then take the patient for the examination first.”
“Alright.”
The middle-aged doctor packed up his things and turned to Si Nan. “Little Nan, please work hard these next few days and keep a close eye on her condition.”
“Yes,” Si Nan nodded. “I will pay attention these days.”
After the large group of people left, Si Nan looked toward the doorway. Only a small sliver of a foot was visible by the door. She didn’t understand why Mang Ke was still hiding when everyone else had gone.
“By the way, this person…” Si Nan paused for a moment and said to Xun Fangyun, “The person you asked me to contact has arrived. Do you want to see her?”
Xun Fangyun’s bright black eyes stared intently at Si Nan and nodded.
Si Nan walked out the door, staring amusedly at Mang Ke, who seemed to be facing the wall in thought. She couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you hiding? Didn’t you want to see this person all along?”
Mang Ke was a little flustered. “I… I’m afraid I don’t look good, and she’ll dislike me…”
This feeling was like meeting someone after online dating. Mang Ke felt that she might be disliked to death in her current state.
Si Nan blinked and smiled. “You’re not dating her. Is your appearance really that important? Besides, I think you look pretty and cute. Who wouldn’t like you?”
Mang Ke blushed. “That’s because we grew up together. Someone else might not think so.”
“But if someone dislikes you the moment they see you, then they have a flaw in their character, don’t they?”
“Mhm…”
Si Nan reached out and patted Mang Ke’s head, saying indulgently, “I’ll go in with you.”
With that, she took Mang Ke’s hand and pulled her into the ward.
“Patient,” Si Nan said as she walked into the ward with Mang Ke, addressing Xun Fangyun. “This is Mang Ke, the person you’ve been thinking about.”
As soon as the words fell, Xun Fangyun’s gaze turned, and after scanning Mang Ke, she focused on their tightly clasped hands.
Xun Fangyun frowned deeply.
Holding hands with another woman right in front of me, what is the meaning of this?
Moreover, Mang Ke looked very anxious. Did her appearance scare her?
Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but feel conflicted. She knew her appearance wasn’t great after lying in bed for so long, but holding someone else’s hand right at the first sight was going too far!!!!
Jealousy surged, and Xun Fangyun felt a tightness in her chest.
“You…”
Mang Ke saw her staring, quickly let go of Si Nan’s hand, and ran over, standing by the bedside with teary eyes. “Do you still remember me?”
Xun Fangyun nodded.
Mang Ke rubbed her red eyes. “I thought you would forget me when you woke up, sob…”
Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but sigh. She reached out and took Mang Ke’s hand, speaking with difficulty, “How could I forget you? You did so much for me.”
Mang Ke couldn’t hold back and burst into tears. She sobbed and burrowed into Xun Fangyun’s arms. Xun Fangyun had no choice but to hug her, comforting her while rubbing her cheek against hers.
Si Nan looked at the two of them feeling strange but didn’t know how to ask. After a moment’s thought, she decided to go out and work, leaving the space to them.
Mang Ke didn’t know how long she cried before she realized that Xun Fangyun had been holding her the whole time.
“Mhm…”
Mang Ke blushed, burying her head in Xun Fangyun’s shoulder and whimpering, “I didn’t mean to…”
Xun Fangyun rubbed her cheek and smiled.
Although she felt tired and heavy all over after waking up, she was very happy to see Mang Ke.
This girl is much cuter than I thought.
Xun Fangyun took Mang Ke’s hand and guided her to touch her throat. “The doctor told me to minimize talking.”
After lying down for so long, her vocal cords and legs were basically useless. It would take time to use them again, but fortunately, Xun Fangyun was not in a hurry.
“Then don’t speak,” Mang Ke said, blushing a little awkwardly. “I might talk a lot usually. Just listen; you don’t have to answer me.”
Xun Fangyun nodded, smiling as she leaned closer.
Mang Ke felt a slight breeze pass, carrying the scent of incense burning by the bed.
Then came a light kiss on her cheek.
—Pop— Mang Ke’s face flushed completely red, and she didn’t know where to look.
Xun Fangyun was happy to see her shy expression and couldn’t resist saying, “Do you want another kiss?”
Mang Ke quickly reached out to cover her mouth and said angrily, “The doctor told you not to talk!”
Shut up, you hooligan!
Xun Fangyun held Mang Ke’s hand and smiled even happier.
For the entire day, Mang Ke accompanied Xun Fangyun through the examinations. Her memory was a bit confused after waking up; besides remembering Mang Ke, she didn’t seem to remember anyone else, not even information about her own parents.
Her legs were still weak. Mang Ke borrowed a wheelchair from the inpatient department and helped Xun Fangyun sit in it.
They took blood samples and underwent all sorts of checks, waiting for the results tomorrow.
In the evening, Xun Fangyun’s mother rushed into the ward. Seeing her daughter in a wheelchair, her tears immediately welled up, and she hugged Xun Fangyun, weeping uncontrollably.
Although Xun Fangyun’s memory was skewed, she recognized her mother. Memories surged like a tide. Seeing her mother after so many years, she couldn’t help but be moved.
Seeing the messy state of the ward and not knowing what to do, a pair of hands pulled Mang Ke aside.
Si Nan had already changed out of her work clothes. She said to Mang Ke, “I’m off work now. Are you going to stay here?”
Her implication was, her biological mother is here now; aren’t you intruding on their mother-daughter reunion?
Mang Ke looked at the older woman and nodded. “Okay, then I’ll come back tomorrow.”
Perhaps hearing their conversation, Xun Fangyun looked up with bright black eyes and slowly spoke, “Tomorrow, come find me.”
“Mhm.” Mang Ke nodded, then said to Si Nan, “Let’s go out first.”
Watching the two leave, Xun Fangyun looked at her mother and wrote with her finger on her palm: 【She】
The woman looked down, took a tissue from the nanny, wiped her eyes, and said, “Yun-Yun, do you know that girl?”
Xun Fangyun nodded.
The woman continued, “It looks like she did very well.”
Xun Fangyun showed a look of confusion.
The woman couldn’t help but smile through her tears. “That girl is excellent. She was the only one among all those people who could wake you up. It’s worth all the money I gave her.”
Xun Fangyun: “…”
The woman rubbed her eyes, composed herself, and said, “Alright, let’s not talk about that. I heard on the way that you have examinations tomorrow. Let Mom accompany you. It’s been so long since I’ve talked to you.”
Xun Fangyun frowned while sitting in the wheelchair, then held out her hand.
“?”
Xun Fangyun said, “Phone.”
She had something she needed to tell her little wife.
