I Quit Being This Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 4
Mang Ke looked a little conflicted, because the little devil in her heart was poking faster and faster.
Was Xun Fangyun actually worried about her?
Just now, she said Mang Ke wasn’t important, so why was she now worried that Mang Ke might be tricked and taken away? Although leaving with a strange man was indeed dangerous, seeing Xun Fangyun so anxious gave Mang Ke a slight sense of accomplishment.
“Are you… worried about me?” Mang Ke leaned against the elevator wall, staring curiously at Xun Fangyun: “Otherwise, why are you so anxious?”
Xun Fangyun: “…”
“Nonsense.” Xun Fangyun pressed her lips together and said: “No matter what happens to you, I wouldn’t worry. Don’t flatter yourself.”
Mang Ke shrewdly blinked her eyes and said: “Then why were you so eager to drag me away? I don’t know that man, but you should, right?”
Xun Fangyun: “…”
Mang Ke continued: “He is Yue Yin’s (悅茵) assistant. You should have met him. Where he is, Yue Yin should be too. Why didn’t you ask her?”
Xun Fangyun: “…Are you trying to teach me how to do things?”
“No,” Mang Ke said triumphantly: “I’m just confirming the thoughts in my head.”
The little devil was bubbling with excitement, poking Mang Ke and chanting: She’s a tsundere, she’s a tsundere, she’s a tsundere!
Xun Fangyun seemed to struggle internally for a long time. Finally, she raised her hand, pressed the floor button, pulled Mang Ke out of the elevator, and didn’t speak another word to her until they reached the banquet hall.
Mang Ke wanted to ask a few questions, but she was afraid of angering her. After all, a tsundere is easily set off if you don’t stroke their fur correctly.
However… Xun Fangyun the paper character was quite interesting. She could actually get jealous. She just didn’t know if this jealousy setting was inherent or a deviation caused by the environment.
Mang Ke looked at her flowing big waves and slender shoulders, sighing inwardly that if Xun Fangyun were a real person, she would probably fall irrevocably in love.
Neither of them was the protagonist of the dinner party, so they naturally hid in a corner to rest. Mang Ke’s high heels were making her feet sore. After settling down, she started filling her stomach with delicious food. Many people came over to chat with Xun Fangyun during this time, but they would only exchange greetings before leaving.
Xun Fangyun sat on the opposite sofa the entire time, looking cold and indifferent, seemingly impatient with everyone, but the other paper characters didn’t mind, which Mang Ke found extremely amusing.
The old lady was taken away by her nanny after 8 PM because she wasn’t feeling well. The rest of the time was a massive commercial mutual-flattery event, which finally ended around 10 PM.
Mang Ke checked the time. If they went home now, Aunt Liu would likely be asleep, so she asked Xun Fangyun: “Should we go back now? Or…”
Xun Fangyun was somewhat dazed at this point. She had been forced to drink a lot of alcohol. The mix of red and white wine had upset her stomach. She could remain conscious at first, but now she was basically sitting in the chair and couldn’t hear anyone calling her.
She only felt that someone was waving something in front of her. She reached out and pulled, only to realize it was a pair of hands. Mang Ke was startled by her action. Just as she was about to call out, the woman grabbed her wrist. Mang Ke tried to pull free, but the grip tightened.
“Are you even drunk?” Mang Ke asked cautiously: “My driving skills aren’t great. If you’re drunk, we’ll just get a room here and sleep.”
Xun Fangyun’s response was to grip Mang Ke’s wrist even tighter. Mang Ke could feel her body temperature and heat. The faint scent of wine on Xun Fangyun smelled quite pleasant.
“You were so fierce just now. I didn’t expect you to be so docile when drunk.” Mang Ke playfully poked her nose with her finger, finding that the other party didn’t resist at all. If this were before, Xun Fangyun would surely jump up and shout.
So obedient… Xun Fangyun’s rosy lips looked sweet, moist, and glistening, appearing so soft. The little pervert in Mang Ke’s heart wanted to jump out again, but Mang Ke quickly pressed it down. They were still in the banquet hall. How could she think such messy things?
Mang Ke couldn’t help but blush. She rubbed her cheek with her free hand, then looked at Xun Fangyun, trying to negotiate with a drunkard: “Let’s go get a room. We won’t go home tonight.”
After saying this, Mang Ke couldn’t help but pinch herself. Why did that sound so strange? It definitely didn’t sound like something a good person would say.
Xun Fangyun closed her eyes, sitting on the chair, seeming compliant. Mang Ke whispered: “You agreed, okay? It’s not that I don’t want to take you home. I’m going to get a room now. Wait for me for a moment.”
Just as she was about to stand up, Xun Fangyun suddenly exerted force, pulling Mang Ke back down.
Mang Ke hadn’t expected this move. Her feet slipped, and she immediately tumbled into Xun Fangyun’s arms. The two fell back onto the sofa seat behind them. The soft sofa enveloped them. Mang Ke felt the world instantly go dark, with only the warm body in front of her giving her a sense of reality…
What is this…??
Xun Fangyun held Mang Ke’s waist. The feeling of the alcohol kicking in was unpleasant. She suppressed the urge to vomit, gripping Mang Ke’s dress.
“Don’t go.” Xun Fangyun’s voice was clear and cold, but she was clearly drunk.
Mang Ke tried to struggle up, but as her knee touched the sofa, she felt the person in her arms distinctly tremble, causing Mang Ke to freeze instantly in fright.
A waiter who was cleaning nearby saw the scene and walked over to ask: “Excuse me, do you need help?”
Mang Ke cried out with tearful eyes: “H-H-Help me! She’s going to throw up, she’s going to throw up, she’s going to throw up! Quick, grab a trash can!”
Several people scrambled to pull Mang Ke away, giving Xun Fangyun water and patting her back. Mang Ke quickly took the opportunity to go to the front desk and book a room, then had someone carry the now-vomiting Xun Fangyun up to the guest room.
Mang Ke didn’t sleep well the entire night, finally dozing off in the early morning.
Xun Fangyun also didn’t sleep soundly. She drank and vomited again, remaining in a muddled state for most of the night, finally waking up around 9 AM.
Outside the partially drawn curtains, the sunlight was bright, leaping into the room. Patches of sunlight shimmered on the soft woven carpet, moving back and forth in the dimly lit room. Her stomach felt uncomfortable. Xun Fangyun actually hated socializing, but she couldn’t refuse.
The fact that I am a paper character sounds truly pitiful. Xun Fangyun let out a quiet sigh.
However, the benefit of being a paper character was that everything would return to calm the next day, as if nothing had happened. A world without attachment, where a stroke of a pen could change anything at will.
Looking at the unfamiliar ceiling, Xun Fangyun intended to get up, but felt she touched something soft and warm… Xun Fangyun turned her head and saw a cascade of chestnut-colored long hair spread across the pillow, blooming like a sunflower in summer. The sunlight leaped, landing on the chestnut hair, illuminating the owner’s soft face. Half of the woman’s face was hidden under the quilt, revealing only her eyes.
Mang Ke was sleeping soundly, clutching the quilt. Her dark eyelashes fluttered gently. Her breath stirred the strands of hair that had strayed to the side, causing small swirls. Xun Fangyun stared, mesmerized. Mang Ke’s skin glowed white in the sunlight, like… an angel.
The room suddenly lost many sounds. Xun Fangyun, who was usually cold towards everything, now found that her eyes only held Mang Ke’s sleeping face. She slowly reached out her hand to touch the face so close to her. When her finger touched the soft cheek, Xun Fangyun couldn’t help but curve her lips. She felt satisfied, like a child who had just received candy.
“She is the female lead after all,” Xun Fangyun whispered: “No matter what, my eyes can only see you.” This is fate, and it is the setting. But Xun Fangyun felt that continuing to stare at her wasn’t a bad thing.
The beautiful little sun seemed to feel the touch on her cheek. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes. Xun Fangyun withdrew her hand, unnaturally turning her face away. She didn’t hear what I just said, did she? If the other person knew about this, they would definitely think she was crazy.
Thankfully, Mang Ke seemed to have just woken up and hadn’t fully processed anything yet. She blinked drowsily, appearing ready to fall asleep again.
“Yun Yun…” Mang Ke shrunk her neck, muttering softly: “Is it morning?”
Xun Fangyun froze. Was ‘Yun Yun’ calling her? No one had ever dared to call her by such an intimate name. Aside from her parents, Mang Ke was the first. Although her mouth twitched, Xun Fangyun inexplicably didn’t dislike this close address; she was even… enjoying it.
“Why are we sleeping here?” Xun Fangyun asked softly when she saw Mang Ke was awake: “What happened last night?”
Mang Ke bundled herself in the quilt and closed her eyes again, humming: “You were so naughty yesterday. You nearly tired me to death.”
Xun Fangyun: “…???”
Mang Ke lay in bed, blinking at Xun Fangyun: “You were drunk yesterday, did you forget?”
Xun Fangyun’s expression was normal: “I don’t remember.”
“I’m not a very good driver, and you held me and wouldn’t let me go. I had no choice but to get a room,” Mang Ke sat up on the bed, rubbing her messy long hair: “You were restless until past three in the morning. I’m completely drained.”
Xun Fangyun: “…”
She looked at the quilt covering the two of them and quietly reached out to touch her clothes.
Not wearing any.
She wasn’t wearing clothes.
She wasn’t wearing any clothes!!!!
Mang Ke rubbed her eyes, mumbling as she sat up: “You need to hurry up and take a shower. You were sweating all night from the commotion.”
Xun Fangyun instinctively clutched the quilt tighter, her face looking terrible: “Last night, did I… was I drunk?”
Mang Ke nodded, saying seriously: “You are truly very clingy when you’re drunk.”
Xun Fangyun: “…I didn’t do anything strange, did I?”
Mang Ke blinked her eyes, asking curiously: “Strange things?”
Xun Fangyun’s already terrible expression worsened: “Things that would make us both very awkward.”
Mang Ke thought for a moment, then reassured her: “It’s alright. There’s nothing we can do if it happened. I’m not the type of woman to make things difficult for others. If you don’t want to, I won’t force you. It’s just that…”
It’s just that you have to wash the dress that you threw up all over. Before she could say this, Xun Fangyun interrupted her.
She looked at Mang Ke with a strange expression, gritting her teeth: “I know what you’re thinking. It’s just marriage. I will try my best to arrange for people to handle it.”
Mang Ke: “…Huh?”
It seems she overplayed her hand.
