I Quit Being This Female Lead (GL) - Chapter 18
Mang Ke listened to Xun Fangyun ramble on face-to-face for a long time. Although Xun Fangyun was still harsh, Mang Ke inexplicably felt that she seemed to care about her more and more. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination.
The doctor came again the next day. The power of money ensured he was on time. He checked Mang Ke’s body and temperature, instructed Aunt Liu to prepare bland meals, and then said goodbye and left.
“Miss Xun has company business today. You should rest well at home,” Aunt Liu placed a blanket on the sofa and told Mang Ke: “What TV series do you want to watch? Or you can change the channel yourself.”
Mang Ke burrowed into the blanket, showing a pair of wide eyes: “I’ll do it myself, Aunt Liu. You go do your work.”
“Alright.” Aunt Liu handed her the remote control and a cup of hot water and told Mang Ke: “I’ll be washing clothes on the balcony. Just call me if you need anything.”
“Got it, Aunt Liu.”
Watching Aunt Liu walk toward the balcony with the laundry basket, Mang Ke couldn’t help but yawn, shrinking into the sofa. The weather was bright and sunny today. The sunlight streamed through the well-lit living room onto the sofa, making Mang Ke’s drowsiness skyrocket. She watched TV for a while and felt it was simply too boring, so she got up, preparing to find something to do.
Just as she stood up, she heard the doorbell ring. Someone was knocking. Aunt Liu was doing laundry on the balcony, and the rumbling noise seemed to prevent her from hearing the knock. Mang Ke decided not to bother her, thinking it might just be a courier or a newspaper delivery person.
She walked to the door, stood on her tiptoes, and looked through the peephole. She saw a woman wearing a denim jacket and a bucket hat, smiling brightly at the peephole. Yue Yin made a gesture with her index and middle fingers above her eyebrow and chuckled: “Open up quickly! I’m here to hang out with you!”
When Aunt Liu heard the commotion in the living room, she walked in, looking confused.
“Hello, Aunt Liu,” Yue Yin took off her hat and set it aside, saying: “Please pour me a cup of lemon black tea, thank you!”
Aunt Liu was confused, but seeing Mang Ke standing next to her looking normal, she didn’t say anything, nodded, and went to the kitchen.
Yue Yin sat down on the sofa, then patted the spot next to her for Mang Ke: “Come and sit down quickly.”
“Maybe not…” Mang Ke said, her gaze drifting: “I’ll just stand.”
“You’re not the maid, so how can I let you stand?” Yue Yin crossed her legs, rested her elbow on her thigh, cupping her cheek, and smiled gently and kindly: “You’re still not fully recovered. What if you catch a cold?”
Mang Ke looked at her a little fearfully. Why is this White Moonlight… so strange??
Yue Yin’s rosy lips curled slightly: “Didn’t we get along very well before? Why are you so afraid of me now? I won’t eat you…”
Mang Ke felt that it wasn’t good to keep refusing her kindness, so she walked to the nearby sofa and sat down.
“Um…” Mang Ke told Yue Yin: “Yun Yun went to work.”
Yue Yin half-closed her eyes, chewing on the word: “Yun Yun…” Such an intimate name. Does that mean the two of them already…? That shouldn’t be the case. Isn’t this supposed to be the stage where she exerts effort, Mang Ke suffers, and Xun Fangyun is blind? Otherwise, Yue Yin wouldn’t have come to act as the ‘mistress.’ But Mang Ke’s address sounded so sweet, not like an unfamiliar way of speaking. Yue Yin was very unhappy.
She pressed her lips and told Mang Ke: “I didn’t come here for her. I came here for you.”
Mang Ke nodded: “I know.” You’re here to fight me.
Yue Yin seemed to sense that Mang Ke misunderstood her. Combining this with their relationship in the original text, she couldn’t help but smile. “I came to persuade you to leave Xun Fangyun,” Yue Yin said: “You two are not a good match, and you argue often. She is not right for you.”
“But I’m different,” Yue Yin said confidently: “I am gentle, beautiful, and rich. Most importantly, I am kind and considerate, and I know how to love better than Xun Fangyun.”
Mang Ke blinked: “Hmm, I know.”
Yue Yin looked at Mang Ke’s slightly flushed face: “Then you will leave Xun Fangyun, won’t you? Give me a chance.”
Mang Ke nodded: “Then I’ll go pack my things?”
Yue Yin’s face flushed with excitement: “Good, I’ll wait for you.”
Mang Ke looked at Yue Yin’s sparkling eyes, wondering why something felt strange. Their thoughts were clearly not on the same frequency, yet for some reason, their communication was so harmonious that when Aunt Liu brought out the brewed black tea, the living room was already empty.
Aunt Liu was confused. She put down the black tea, searched the entire villa, inside and out, but couldn’t find Mang Ke or Yue Yin. How strange. Why did both of them disappear so suddenly???
Xun Fangyun was still in a company meeting when she received Aunt Liu’s call. Xun Fangyun felt frustrated. Why did she have to hold meetings with a group of paper characters who only knew how to nod ‘yes’? They wouldn’t understand anything she said anyway, but she would be even more idle if she didn’t go to work. Gradually, Xun Fangyun had come to treat this world like a sandbox game. Since she was idle anyway, she might as well play a game. Perhaps after she died, she could get out of here without wasting so much emotion.
Men and women in suits with dull, almost copied-and-pasted expressions sat in the conference room. Xun Fangyun received the call and walked out.
“What?” Xun Fangyun frowned: “You said Yue Yin came home and took Mang Ke away?”
Aunt Liu said on the other end of the line: “Yes, Miss Xun. I checked the community surveillance. Miss Yue Yin drove away with Mang Ke. You should contact Miss Yue Yin.”
Xun Fangyun: “…I understand.”
Hanging up the phone, she immediately called Yue Yin. The other party was very decisive—she hung up and turned off her phone.
Yue Yin tossed her phone onto a nearby sofa, then tied up her long hair with a black hair tie, exposing her lovely nape.
They were at a billiard hall, but since it was early in the morning, there were no customers. Mang Ke saw Yue Yin throw her phone aside and looked up at her, puzzled: “Did Yun Yun call you?”
Yue Yin smiled and said: “Let’s not talk about her yet.”
Mang Ke was confused. If the two love rivals weren’t talking about Xun Fangyun, what else was there to talk about?
The dim lighting in the billiard hall cast Yue Yin’s face into shadow, making her look somewhat gloomy. “Do you still remember the first time we met?” Yue Yin asked Mang Ke: “You took off my clothes. Shouldn’t you… take responsibility for me?”
Mang Ke thought for a moment. She must be referring to the time at the banquet when Yue Yin was drugged by another guest. “We’re both girls. It shouldn’t be a big deal just looking at me, should it?” Mang Ke said: “Are you very bothered by it? I apologize then.”
“If an apology were enough, I wouldn’t have brought you here.” Yue Yin reached out her fair finger, traced Mang Ke’s chin, and smiled: “Anyway, your relationship with Xun Fangyun isn’t great, so why don’t you stay with me?”
Mang Ke: “?”
Yue Yin said: “My assets are no less than Fangyun’s. You won’t lose anything by being in a relationship with me.”
Mang Ke pondered for a moment, then looked up at her: “But… Miss Yue Yin, aren’t we love rivals?”
