I Only Raised Men for Revenge - Chapter 22
Sesenia, who couldn’t recall the past when she met Rohan, stroked her chin.
“Yes. My mother said so. She said you resemble the late Marchioness a lot. Outwardly, Lady Elzer might seem to resemble her more, but she said you resemble her in your firm personality and resolute aspects.”
“Mother…”
Sesenia suddenly thought of her mother.
“She passed away when I was five.”
It was then. Rohan’s expression changed ever so slightly.
“Isn’t that right?”
“No. That’s right. We even held a funeral.”
Sesenia clearly remembered too. Her father, wailing. And her mother’s words as she stroked her cheek, telling her she loved her and to live only as herself.
‘But how did she die?’
Was it because she was so young, only five years old, that she couldn’t remember? Sesenia couldn’t recall her mother’s last moments. She had only heard from someone that her mother had passed away due to poor health.
“It’s a little sad.”
“Yes…?”
“It’s been so long that I don’t remember my mother’s face or her scent. She loved me so much. All I know is that my father and Elzer sister say she looks just like her. That’s all I have to remember her by.”
Did she really resemble her mother? She suddenly wondered.
The Marchioness had passed away without leaving behind a single portrait. The mother Sesenia remembered was only a blur. She remembered the things she had said and other things, but nothing else.
Especially her appearance. She was young, but Sesenia’s face darkened at the thought that she couldn’t remember anything.
“Rohan, do you remember? My mother?”
“No. Neither I nor my mother remember her well. Only that she was a very kind person… Strangely enough, I can’t remember anything about her appearance. It’s as if we’ve been programmed to only remember that she resembles Lady Elzer.”
“I see.”
“But Lady, my mother said that the Marchioness loved Lady Sesenia more than Lady Elzer. So, please don’t be too sad. Someday…”
“Someday?”
Rohan hesitated to say something and shook his head.
“No, it’s nothing. Anyway, I sold the cotton and firewood as you instructed. I included all the special clauses. We agreed not to reveal that they purchased Hepria cotton for a week.”
Rohan handed Sesenia the organized documents with a rather proud expression. Watching him gloss over his words as if he were someone who couldn’t be caught doing something, Sesenia didn’t bother to ask.
Recalling memories would only add to the longing. Instead, Sesenia scanned the documents Rohan had organized.
“Well done.”
There was no reply.
“Also, I’ve increased the security.”
“I thought you’d be curious about why I increased security at an empty warehouse, but you’re not curious?”
“Everything you do must have a purpose, Lady.”
“I’m a little worried because you trust me too much. You can feel free to give me your opinion if you have one.”
As if he had been waiting for those words, he handed over other documents.
“Please take a look at this, this, and this too.”
“There’s a lot to see.”
“What kind of business are you planning to do next? Since the profit from this venture is this much.”
He seemed excited for some reason. Rohan, who was always stiff, seemed happy about the profit from this venture and was busy unfolding documents about the next business items.
“The work will be finished soon. And we’ll wait for spring to sprout. The next one will unfold after that.”
“I see.”
“Then I should go to the temple now. Teddy is here.”
“I will go with you.”
“No.”
“But I need to protect you, Master.”
Teddy naturally clung to Sesenia’s side.
“No. The reason I stopped by here is you, Teddy.”
“Me?”
“Yes. Teddy, you will become the most precious thing I own.”
“Precious…? Someone like me?”
“Yes. So, I won’t show you to anyone. Especially not to the temple. Not until that day comes. So, Teddy, learn and change a lot. So that I don’t regret buying you.”
Strictly master-servant relationship only. So that neither of them would have different feelings for each other. Sesenia drew that line.
The most precious thing, and until she could place that precious thing in the most precious place. She would put it in a treasure chest so that no one would covet it, and she would cherish it dearly.
To Sesenia, Teddy was the most precious raw gem in a treasure chest.
“Ah…”
“Understood? So, listen to me and stay here.”
As if he understood that feeling differently, Teddy looked at her with a rather happy expression.
“I will make sure you don’t regret it, that you think you bought well.”
Those words she had simply uttered, perhaps those words she had uttered to make the situation advantageous to herself, may have given someone a change in life. Just like now.
Teddy’s eyes sparkled as if they contained sunlight. Since meeting Sesenia, Teddy, who had only been living hard each day, now looked forward to the future. The future where he would live, where Sesenia was.
“Then Rohan. Please finish up.”
“Yes, Lady.”
With that, Sesenia got back into the carriage with Lizbeth.
“Let’s go to the temple.”
Lizbeth, who had already heard the final destination, told the coachman the destination, and the door closed. The carriage moved with a clattering sound.
Unlike the expectation that Silian would appear again once the carriage departed and say this and that, Silian kept his mouth shut and showed no biological reactions.
“Maybe he ran away in the meantime, Lady.”
As if she found that strange, Lizbeth looked around for a long time before opening her mouth.
“If he ran away, there’s nothing we can do.”
“Are you okay with that?”
“Yes. Even if he runs away, Silian will eventually find me. Because I’m the only one in the world who can protect him.”
At Sesenia’s confident appearance, Lizbeth nodded as if she understood.
Those actions gradually gave Sesenia faith. That Lizbeth was also someone who had traveled back in time.
‘Isn’t traveling back in time my family’s secret technique?’
Or is there another way to go back in time besides that? Or is Lizbeth in this timeline just remembering the future?
Numerous questions filled Sesenia’s head.
One question gave birth to one curiosity, and one curiosity gave birth to two questions, tormenting her until she arrived at the temple.
**
“We have arrived, Lady.”
Only after hearing those words did Sesenia stop thinking.
“Yes. Let’s get off.”
The carriage door opened. In the past, she had come to the temple often. The Imperial Temple tried to gather people with divine power by any means, and one of those methods was to promote noble young ladies as saints.
Those with even a little divine power were treated more preciously, and Sesenia was one of those people.
Therefore, as soon as Sesenia appeared, the priests quickly approached.
“Have you come, Saint Sesenia?”
She was treated a little more preciously, and because she had come to the temple often since she was young, Sesenia’s steps were light.
“Have you come to pray today?”
“I’ve come to see the High Priest.”
“Yes? Ah… Did you make an appointment separately?”
“No. I came without an appointment. But shouldn’t a saint be able to see the High Priest?”
“For a moment, I thought you were Lady Elzer.”
Sesenia’s eyes changed at the name Elzer that came out of the priest’s mouth.
“Did my sister come to see the High Priest often?”
“Yes. She came often. Of course, since she doesn’t have the power of a saint, there were hardly any cases where a meeting with the High Priest was arranged.”
“I see. You don’t know the reason separately?”
“Yes. We’re just underlings, how would we know the reason? Then I’ll find out if you can see the High Priest. Would you like to wait in the third moon’s prayer room for a moment?”
This was the reason why Sesenia liked the temple.
“Yes.”
She was always compared to her sister Elzer. And at the end of that comparison, the words that her sister was still better were always prevalent.
Elzer said the opposite, but in reality, Sesenia passed all the credit to Elzer, so Sesenia was often regarded as a lacking younger sister.
Elzer was much more beautiful in appearance, and she was outgoing and got along well with people. On the other hand, Sesenia didn’t get along well with people, and it was generally said that she was not as pretty as her sister.
But it was different only in this place.
In the temple, Elzer was measured to have no divine power at all. On the other hand, Sesenia was measured to have a high level of divine power, even among the women called saints. Thanks to that, because of that, Sesenia had been treated more preciously only in this place.
The only place where she could do as she pleased.
“But Lady. Did that person follow us down?”
“I wonder. Are you worried?”
“A little. I think he’s a bit strange, I’m worried it might be bad to get close to him.”
“You don’t have to worry. As long as his safety is guaranteed, he’s someone who will be quieter than anyone else and help me.”
“Lady, why do you need so many people?”
It was the first time. It was the first time Lizbeth had asked such a question. So Sesenia’s eyes changed a little as she moved to the prayer room.
“Ah.”
“Are you trying to get revenge?”
“Yes. Revenge. I’m going to turn the most brilliantly shining world black.”
