I Only Raised Men for Revenge - Chapter 20
Nevertheless, Sesenia didn’t seem worried in the slightest, as if she knew someone was coming. Quite some time passed like that. Sesenia slowly turned her head to look at Ted.
“Ted.”
“Yes, Master.”
“Why do you follow me so much? Is it because I saved you?”
“Ah.”
Ted clamped his mouth shut at those words.
‘Is it just my delusion that he’s following me?’
Seeing that, Sesenia smiled, relieved.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to follow me. That’s not why I brought you here. I was just curious.”
“I…”
It was then.
Just as Ted was about to say something, a strong gust of wind blew into the carriage. At the same time, the entire carriage shook.
Instinctively, Ted stepped in front of Sesenia, standing protectively before her. Realizing the situation a beat late, Lizbeth’s eyes widened.
“Uh… what, what’s going on? I’ll go check.”
But Sesenia shook her head firmly.
“No need. Just close the door and let’s go.”
“Yes? But you said a guest was coming.”
“The guest is already here. Let’s go, then.”
Lizbeth tilted her head, unable to understand Sesenia’s words at all.
No matter how much she looked around, there was no sign of anyone having boarded. It had just been a slight shaking of the carriage. Nevertheless, Sesenia was firm. In a position where she had to follow her master, Lizbeth had no choice but to knock on the window of the coachman’s seat, and the carriage door closed.
Still full of questions, the carriage set off nonetheless.
“By the way, why is Teddy still doing that, Miss?”
Only Teddy remained in the same posture as before, protecting Sesenia.
“Who knows.”
“There’s a nasty smell.”
“A nasty smell, huh? It’s okay.”
“No. I’m not okay. Anything that threatens Master is absolutely. Not allowed. Absolutely.”
He was quite firm at times like this. As if he had no intention of backing down, Teddy was emitting a very ominous aura from his body, protecting Sesenia.
“I don’t think there’s anything as dangerous as you here.”
It was then. Perhaps Ted’s words had offended him, as Silian, who had been hiding in the darkness, revealed himself.
The childish appearance from before had vanished, replaced by a man who looked no different from Ted as an adult. Even his voice was different from before, but Sesenia immediately recognized him as Silian, the older of the twins.
“W-Who are you!”
Lizbeth’s eyes widened, and she cowered. But apart from her, no one was surprised.
“I knew it. There was a guy reeking of a nasty smell.”
“You’re one to talk. Judging by how you can’t control your fierce energy, you’re nothing more than a beast.”
As if instinctively hostile to each other, the two bared their fangs as soon as they met.
“Stop it. We’re going to be living together as family, so shouldn’t we be friendly? And we’re the ones helping you, so you should introduce yourself. Otherwise, my maid will get scared. Orphanage brat.”
“It seemed like you already knew I wasn’t a brat.”
Silian glared at Sesenia with fierce eyes. She already knew the names of the twins from the Salmon Kingdom in the orphanage, as well as their circumstances, but there was no need to give them excessive information.
There were times when knowing a lot was helpful, and times when it only aroused hostility in the other person.
This was exactly one of those times. As escaped royalty, they were bound to be extremely wary. So Sesenia kept her mouth shut.
“Is that so.”
“…Anyway. Since you told me to introduce myself, I will. I’m Silian.”
He had introduced himself, but even then, Silian’s gaze was directed at Sesenia. He had a small frown on his brow, as if worried that she might say something else.
“This is Tedel. You can call him Teddy. And this is my maid, Lizbeth. I’m Sesenia Bestel.”
“So, are you going to keep your promise?”
“Don’t worry. I’m good at keeping promises.”
“Miss. Who is that man and why is he…?”
“The guest I mentioned.”
Sesenia grabbed Ted’s wrist, who was blocking her view, and sat him down next to her. Teddy, who had been frozen like a statue, sat weakly next to Sesenia like a doll filled with air.
“A guest, I didn’t even know he got on.”
“From now on, he’ll be a guest like that. As if you don’t know he got on or is even here.”
“Ah. So, you’ve taken in another person for no reason? Sigh. My brother says you’re too kind.”
“Don’t worry, Lizbeth. This time, it’s also the hypocrisy of a rich person, but I’ll be getting something in return.”
Unlike Sesenia, who smiled brightly, Silian’s expression hardened as he looked at her.
“So, you did want something after all.”
“Yeah. Protect me. When you run a trading company, you tend to have quite a few enemies. If you just do that, I’ll protect you. So, follow me. There’s no one who can help ‘you guys’ as much as I can.”
“That’s nothing to worry about. But we need to make something clear. Otherwise, I might end up killing you.”
At the word ‘kill,’ Teddy, who had been lying next to her like a languid cat, stood up again.
“You don’t have to act like a sharp cat. Teddy. The more someone says they’ll kill, the less likely they are to kill anyone.”
“That’s going too far. Do you think I can’t kill you?”
“If you kill me, you’ll become fugitives again, wouldn’t you? You might be okay with it, but what about ‘that child’?”
“…”
“So, swear to me in your name.”
Because she was smiling, an attractive dimple formed on Sesenia’s cheek.
“That’s a very unfair contract.”
“Even so, you’ll take my hand. Won’t you?”
“That’s what’s so annoying about you. The way you act like you know something.”
“It’s not ‘you.’ It’s ‘Master.’ Watch your language.”
In the end, Teddy, who had been looking at Silian, couldn’t hold back his anger and spat out those words. It was just words, but the words were full of thorns.
“I’m not your master anyway, am I? And shouldn’t I be the one who’s offended?”
Silian shifted his gaze to Sesenia with a dumbfounded expression.
“Why are you speaking informally to me at every turn when you know who I am?”
“Because I don’t want to use honorifics with someone who spoke informally to me first? So, if you want to hear honorifics, treat me with respect. Silian.”
There was no backing down. To Silian, there were only two kinds of humans.
Those who revered him, or those who ignored him. A royal who inherited the blood of Salmon. The king who would inherit the next throne. Silian Salmon, who was born to be high. No one could ignore him.
He was born that way.
All those circumstances made him special.
But not now. Anyone who knew his bloodline could not ignore him, but this woman was different.
‘She’s the first person to ignore me.’
That feeling was new. He thought he would feel bad, but far from feeling bad, it gave him a new sensation.
“Tell me whenever you feel like it. I can use honorifics anytime.”
Something kept pulling and releasing his heart. It was curiosity. Curiosity about someone else that he had never had in his life. His life had only consisted of two things: his life as royalty and his life protecting his younger sibling, but for the first time, Silian was curious about someone.
That woman was ignoring him even though she knew his identity. Did she have a strong power? Or was she really out of her mind? Whatever it was, Silian found this moment new and interesting.
“Let’s make a contract. But do you know what you’re contracting with me for?”
In the past, Sesenia had unexpectedly heard the news that the imperial temple was protecting the Salmon royal family, and she had looked it up. What they were? What kind of existence they were?
Long ago, there was a god. In the distant past when beasts and humans were not much different. At that time, the god descended to earth and cared for humans. He gave strength to the weakest group and treated them like his own children.
They were the first to receive power, and that power later manifested as magic.
The name of the kingdom of Salmon was even the name of that god, Salmon loved the god, and the god also loved Salmon.
The power given by God. Magic. The problem started because of that power.
When people gathered, the strong would naturally become leaders. Unlike the god’s wish for everyone to be equal, they fought each other and chose the strong. That person became the leader and a kingdom was established.
They only married among the strong in order to strengthen their powers, so the power of the royal family gradually decreased, and problematic children were born.
Salmon, the god, abandoned Salmon. Salmon abandoned the humans he loved, who were far from the ideal he had imagined. After that, the power of the Salmon royal family could not exceed a certain level. In that situation, Silian was born.
One with power close to God.
‘But in the past, Silian was just a puppet of the imperial temple. He was held back because of his younger sibling, whom he tried so hard to protect.’
Out of that pity, Sesenia looked for a way to help them. And she realized the reason why Silian couldn’t leave the imperial temple, which was strange.
“I know. Words become swords, and swords are stabbed into the heart, promising through the medium of death.”
“Ah, Miss!”
“Master. That’s…!”
“That’s why I’m doing it. I’ll give you my life, Silian.”
Unlike Sesenia, who smiled with a smirk, Silian’s eyes filled with a fierce light.
