I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 61
An indescribable sensation surged from the depths of her heart. Yan Xingyu felt a sudden, inexplicable chill. She glared at the woman putting on an act before her and cursed, “Yan Xiaoling, you are disgusting. How much longer are you going to keep up this charade?”
Yan Xiaoling looked up at the person flying toward her with angry eyes and pursed lips, brandishing a blade. Her brows twitched slightly, and with a mere thought, four or five Human Ghouls instantly appeared to block her path, making it impossible for anyone to get close. Addressing the two who dared to appear before her alone, she said, “Aren’t you overestimating yourselves?”
Her light words couldn’t hide the thick irony within. Yan Xingyu swung her blade with practiced precision, easily sending snarling heads rolling across the ground. However, this alone did not stop the rest of the Human Ghouls’ movements. Dealing with these creatures, who knew neither death nor pain was indeed a massive headache. Yan Xingyu and Yi Rong had spent the night devising several methods, but in the end, they could only borrow Wei Yao’s approach: separating the head from the body and then trapping it was the most effective way.
Thus, as she decapitated the ghouls, Yi Rong followed behind, using Shadow Fish to trap the heads in one place. Hearing the sarcasm in the woman’s voice and knowing exactly what she was thinking, Yan Xingyu tilted her face up with a cold expression and shouted, “It is you who has underestimated us!”
“Yan Xiaoling, while some aid the wicked, others stand to dispel evil!”
Knowing the girl wouldn’t say this without reason, Yan Xiaoling’s heart instantly grew wary. She swept her gaze across the surroundings and immediately noticed something on the horizon. Vaguely, a dense mass of black shadows was rushing toward them. She squinted, steadying her gaze, and recognized the man leading the way on a flying sword, robes fluttering and fan in hand, followed by hundreds of Yuanming cultivators.
Xu Pingxi’s expression darkened immediately upon spotting Jiang Yueren and the others. His face turned solemn as Yan Xiaoling’s sinister, irritated voice drifted into his ear.
“I told you long ago to kill this nuisance, but you refused. Now look, he’s here to ruin things again.”
Xu Pingxi wondered how Jiang Yueren, who should have been buried in a pit, had been rescued and managed to return to Yuanming Mountain to bring so many reinforcements. Frowning, he said, “I spared him time and again out of respect for Jiang Qilu. Since he is so stubborn and repeatedly interferes with our great plan, there is no need to show him mercy anymore.”
Even without Xu Pingxi’s prompting, she had no intention of showing mercy. Now, anyone who stood in her way had to die. Yan Xiaoling’s pupils shrank violently. Sensing her will, the Plain Moths gathered and swarmed toward the sky, their screeching cries filling the air. Stirred by the summons, more and more Human Ghouls began to converge on the area.
When Jiang Yueren arrived and saw the ground littered with bloody carnage and flailing limbs, he couldn’t help but gasp. Many of the ghouls were talented cultivators he had met before. Their blood was still spilling, yet they had been turned into walking corpses. A sense of desolate grief flooded his heart, and he cried out in sorrow.
“Sect Leader Xu, they were all elite disciples of Qingding Mountain. How could you be so heartless…”
Yan Xiaoling had hated Jiang Yueren back at Yuanming Mountain; he was a “pretentious piece of jade” who always spoke of righteousness. Hearing him talk made her want to snap, “Since you’re so reluctant to part with them, why don’t you go down and accompany them?”
Jiang Yueren glared at the culprit behind it all. He had once considered that she had been abandoned by her family and remembered their childhood friendship. Even when he realized her personality was becoming treacherous and distorted, he had remained tolerant. However, that tolerance had only nourished her malice, leading to these heinous acts.
“Yan Xiaoling, you deserve ten thousand deaths!”
The paper fan in his hand swung downward, bringing a howling gale that knocked over the nearby Human Ghouls. The Yuanming disciples descended in unison, drawing their swords. Their movements were clean, organized, and resolute, forming a bronze wall amidst the chaos that pinned down many of the ghouls.
Yan Xiaoling snorted coldly, taking out talismans and sending them flying toward the ghouls. She muttered incantations under her breath as if issuing a command. The recently deceased cultivators, already fierce, suddenly seemed injected with divine power, becoming even more savage. The battlefield once again became dangerously uncontrollable.
Xu Pingxi, watching the chaotic brawl, did not want to be delayed. He steered his crane directly toward the Heavenly Gate. Seeing him leave, Yan Xingyu tried her best to break away from the fight to intercept him, but that annoying voice rang in her ear again.
“Ruo’er, where do you think you’re going without telling me?”
Turning around, those stinging, gloomy eyes were right in front of her, and the screeching Plain Moths behind her sister lunged forward.
The crane’s feathers brushed through the blue clouds. The Heavenly Gate, which had appeared repeatedly in his dreams, was now right before him. Xu Pingxi took a deep breath, his true qi circulating through his dantian, yet he could not suppress his racing heart. It felt like the churning sea of clouds, never ending. He stepped forward slowly, reaching out to touch the gate that looked like both glass and jade. He felt as if he could see another world through the tiniest crack. The Seven Stars suspended above the gate emitted a faint glow, suddenly moving without a sound.
The temperature against his palm was unexpectedly piercing, a sudden sensation of falling into a glacier. The joints of his fingers touching the gate grew stiff. Sensing something was wrong, Xu Pingxi suppressed his trepidation and pushed forward with his spiritual energy. Surprisingly, the heavy gate was pushed open with ease. His expression turned suspicious as he looked around, finding nothing unusual. His heart was still drumming, but his desire to explore the celestial realm urged him on. He stepped inside.
Looking ahead, another Heavenly Gate appeared.
Xu Pingxi’s pupils contracted in disbelief. He hurried forward, looking at the gate that was identical to the one he had just crossed. He looked up, even the Seven Stars were hanging in the exact same position. He pushed again with all his might, yet the same gate appeared before him once more.
What is happening? Is this a test from the immortals?
As confusion filled his mind, a woman’s voice sounded behind him. He turned to see “Yan Xiaoling” arriving. His brow relaxed as he asked, “Have you finished dealing with the people below?”
“Naturally. How could those useless fools withstand my Human Ghouls?”
“Yan Xiaoling” walked leisurely toward him, standing to one side as she looked at the gate. “Can’t get in?”
“Something is wrong here. No matter how many times I push this gate, the same one stands in front of me.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
“Yan Xiaoling” gazed at the gate pensively. Her eyes flickered as if she had thought of something. “Perhaps the gates here are all fake. The true Heavenly Gate might not be visible to the naked eye.”
Xu Pingxi calmed down. He looked at the Seven Stars above, pondering her words. If it wasn’t visible, where could it be hidden?
“I’ve heard that heavenly treasures possess a wisp of celestial consciousness. Don’t you have the Earth Spirit Crystal? Take it out and try, see if it can resonate with the gate.”
Seeing “Yan Xiaoling” glancing at him sideways, Xu Pingxi weighed her words and found them logical. He pulled a brown crystal from his storage bag and asked, “But how should I use this Earth Spirit Crystal?”
“Give it to me.”
Seeing “Yan Xiaoling” reach out, Xu Pingxi didn’t think twice and placed the crystal in her palm, assuming she had a plan. But instead of performing a ritual, she gripped the crystal and walked directly toward him. He asked, “What else do you need?”
“There is indeed one more thing you must give me.”
“Yan Xiaoling” stepped close, leaving only half a pace between them. She stared at him, a smile suddenly breaking across her face. “I need… your life.”
A bone chilling voice accompanied a cold flash of light that pierced the man’s body without warning. Xu Pingxi’s look of shock froze on his face. Feeling the other person’s elbow sink as she tried to pull the sword out, he gathered his energy and struck at her. She dodged easily. Seeing “Yan Xiaoling’s” triumphant expression, a surge of rage exploded in his chest. He roared, “Yan Xiaoling, are you mad?! I helped you so much, and you want to kill me?”
“Yan Xiaoling” looked indifferent, throwing his words back at him. “Xu Pingxi, didn’t you plan to kill me once I outlived my usefulness?”
“Stop pretending.”
Having his secret scheme exposed, Xu Pingxi’s eyes shrank. The reflection of the woman in his dark pupils turned distorted and hideous. He gnashed his teeth and screamed, “Bitch, give me your life!”
Talismans formed from spiritual energy flew through the air toward her, carrying a ghostly wind. “Yan Xiaoling” did not engage in a direct fight, she had already obtained what she wanted. Clutching the Earth Spirit Crystal, she ran. Xu Pingxi, humiliated and enraged, gave chase despite his injuries. However, his speed was a step slower. Just then, the sea of clouds shifted strangely, surging like a wave. In a blink, the scenery changed: magnificent palaces and the scent of incense filled his senses. He looked up to see the statue of the Ancestral Master. His heart sank.
How did he end up back at Qingding Mountain?
The beautiful face of the woman gradually faded, revealing the true features beneath. On that thin face, eyes shone with the light of certain victory. Liu Ruoni watched the Yuanming disciples and the ghouls locked in a bitter struggle below, while Yan Xingyu and Yan Xiaoling faced off.
The only “pure land” in the chaos was the patch of ground where the ice coffin lay. She moved toward it quickly, trying not to draw attention. She reached out to touch the inside, but felt an invisible barrier, a thin film covering the body. She could see the silhouette inside, but could not touch it.
Liu Ruoni’s eyes darkened. She knew that woman was exceptionally cautious with this. However, she took out a Blood Swallow containing Yan Xiaoling’s blood. It flew from her hand into the ice coffin, like vermilion dropping onto white jade. The dazzling red transformed into a complex runic pattern, and the invisible barrier shattered.
The face she had dreamed of day and night was finally before her. Her fingertips trembled as she reached out to caress the woman’s cheek. Her sharp, cold eyes softened with tenderness.
She murmured, “Finally, I see you again.”
