I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 35
Hearing the person in her arms murmuring softly and meeting those blurred, dazed eyes, Yi Rong thought to herself that things were going south. At the same time, she felt Bai Hua poking at her from behind.
She couldn’t help but say, “Stop messing around.”
These words took on a completely different flavor when they reached Yan Xingyu’s ears. Her expression shifted instantly, she reached out as if to push Yi Rong away and snapped, “Who’s messing around?”
Her voice rose unconsciously, becoming aggressive: “You’re always so tight-lipped, acting like you’re terrified of anyone getting to know you. Do you think everyone wants to know you?!”
“Well, I don’t!”
“Why do you have to appear in front of me every single time to protect me? You have no obligation to protect me. What even is our relationship anyway?”
Startled by this sudden outburst, Yi Rong’s face filled with shock. She realized that what she had just said to Bai Hua must have been misunderstood. Grabbing the other woman’s hand, she tried to explain: “What I just said… I wasn’t talking about you.”
“Not me? Then who are you looking for?”
Yan Xingyu’s head was spinning; she was misinterpreting everything she heard, and the anger she had suppressed was finally spilling out.
“I’m not the person you’re looking for! We have no relationship! Why are you holding me?!”
“I don’t want you to hold me!”
Watching the person in her arms struggle and ramble incoherently, Yi Rong felt a headache coming on. Still, she tried to soothe her, saying, “I’m not looking for anyone.”
“You were in trouble. Naturally, I appeared to help you.”
“In the sea, your movements aren’t as agile as mine. Holding you makes things easier.”
“Be good, okay? We’re going back to the surface right now.”
Having said her piece, Yi Rong decided to ignore Bai Hua’s wailing. She had the Shadow Fish bind the two troublemakers and prepared to swim back to the surface as quickly as possible.
Hearing this response only made Yan Xingyu unhappier. She scolded peevishly, “So if I hadn’t run into trouble, you wouldn’t have appeared? You wouldn’t even want to see me?”
“Since there is neither affection nor destiny between us…”
“Then I don’t need you to show up. Go away! I don’t need your help!”
Yi Rong… felt the other woman was only making the situation more muddled. She tried to explain again. “No, that’s not what I meant.”
Meanwhile, the two Bai Hua were struggling relentlessly against the Shadow Fish, their wailing growing louder and grating on her ears.
With the woman in her arms twisting and flailing restlessly, Yi Rong had no choice but to hold her firmly as she swam toward the surface.
However, Bai Hua’s wailing wasn’t just noise, it acted as a beacon, drawing in nearby minor sea demons and even bringing the Sea Dragon back.
Seeing the growing swarm of sea demons, Yi Rong knew she couldn’t afford to linger. Seeing that Yan Xingyu was about to launch into another tirade, Yi Rong simply covered the woman’s mouth, ignoring her muffled protests.
Chased by sea demons, she didn’t stop for a second until they reached the shore. Just as she was about to lead Yan Xingyu away, the Sea Dragon caught up, dragging the two Bai Hua with it.
Yi Rong looked back at the two pairs of dark little eyes staring at her from the water. Seeing the Shadow Fish still coiled around the Bai Hua, her brow furrowed. Because of childhood memories, she couldn’t bring herself to be cruel to them, she figured that since she was back on land, they wouldn’t be chased or toyed with anymore.
As she was thinking this, a female voice called her name from behind.
“Yi Rong?”
She turned to meet a face full of shock. Yi Rong was equally startled; the hand covering Yan Xingyu’s mouth loosened and was promptly swatted away.
A barrage of questions followed immediately.
“Yi Rong, you actually covered my mouth!”
“Was I right? Is that really what you think?!”
“Stop trying to cover it up! I don’t want to hear your soothing lies anymore!”
Guan Suxue finally got a clear look at the person in Yi Rong’s arms. Her eyes widened even further as her gaze darted between the two of them. “Rou’er? What are you two doing?”
Fearing the Palace Master would think she was bullying the sea demons kept by the palace, Yi Rong first released the restraints on the Bai Hua. She saw that Yan Xingyu was still in a state of high excitement and mental confusion.
Helplessly, she said, “Palace Master Guan, this is because of the Bai Hua…”
Before she could finish, a powerful gust of wind swept down from above, pulling her and Yan Xingyu into it.
Guan Suxue looked up to see her daughter arriving from a distance, sword riding alongside a strange red haired woman. Seeing them looking over, she noted the red-haired woman was quite good-looking.
She reached out and summoned a green bird, which transformed into a seven foot tall phantom to block their path. “Fei’er, what are you doing?”
Once pulled into the air, Yi Rong stabilized herself and saw it was Guan Fei’s group. Seeing Guan Fei prepare to attack the Palace Master, Yi Rong was puzzled, it seemed the mother-daughter relationship was even worse than before.
But she couldn’t stay distracted for long. The person in her arms suddenly produced a silver rope and looped it around Yi Rong’s neck. Watching this from the side, Jiaoyu was stunned.
“Yan Xingyu, what are you doing?”
Yan Xingyu didn’t hear the question. She just burst into loud laughter and said, “Hahaha! Now you can’t run away!”
Seeing her state of increasing mania, Yi Rong sighed softly. While trying to untie the rope, she said, “Xingyu has been affected by something that causes hallucinations.”
Jiaoyu watched the woman’s frantic, nonsensical behavior and remarked, “She looks like she’s completely wasted.”
Yi Rong replied, “In a sense, it’s not much different from being drunk.”
Jiaoyu was speechless.
Yan Xingyu finally seemed to notice Guan Fei and the others. Her struggling stopped as she shouted, “Hey, Guan Fei! You jerk! Are you hiding something from me?!”
Guan Fei, who was tangled with the phantom bird, heard this and knew Yan Xingyu was currently delirious. She didn’t take offense, replying, “There is indeed one thing I haven’t had the chance to tell you.”
“Then hurry up and say it!”
“I hate people who talk in half-sentences!”
Guan Fei replied, “I haven’t been hiding it. I just told you a bit late. Besides, I thought you already knew.”
“What would I know?!”
“The fact that I like Yuyu. I’ve never kept it a secret, I just haven’t officially told you.” Guan Fei added, “Xingyu, you can’t just blame me. You’re hiding things from me too, aren’t you?”
“I am not!”
Hearing the loud denial, Guan Fei said leisurely, “Lately, you and Yi Rong have been inseparable, and your relationship has suddenly become so intimate. Yet you haven’t told me what’s going on between you two. It makes me quite sad.”
Yan Xingyu retorted, “There’s nothing going on between us yet! What am I supposed to tell you?!”
Guan Fei said in surprise, “I didn’t expect you to still be in the unrequited love phase. If you like her, don’t hide it. Why not be as open as I am?”
As if provoked by these words, Yan Xingyu shouted, “How am I not open? What am I afraid to say?!”
She turned to the person beside her and yelled, “Yi Rong, I like you! Do you like me?!”
These unembellished words crashed into the ears of everyone present. For a moment, everyone stopped moving. The scene became eerily silent.
“Yi Rong, do you dare to answer me?!”
Another follow-up question snapped everyone back to reality. Guan Fei was the first to recover, letting out a laugh. “I suspect she doesn’t dare to answer.”
Jiaoyu nudged her, scolding gently, “Stop stirring up trouble and think of a way to get out of here.”
“Hahaha, I know.”
Guan Suxue’s inner state was currently very complex. The shock of seeing her friend’s daughter hadn’t faded, and now she was hearing her confess to the childhood friend she grew up with. Her expression was beyond description.
However, hearing her daughter’s laughter, something she hadn’t heard in a long time made her feel a sense of loss. Behind her, a group of maids arrived, calling out to her.
“Palace Master.”
Realizing people were arriving, Guan Fei said to Yi Rong, who was still stunned by Yan Xingyu’s words, “Take Xingyu and go first. Wait for us in Fu City to the west.”
As she spoke, she struck first, manifesting an invisible hand to grab the green bird and pin it to the ground.
Guan Suxue saw her daughter’s move and didn’t order the maids to act. Instead, she drew her sword to sever Guan Fei’s control over the bird.
Jiaoyu knew Guan Fei’s spiritual power hadn’t fully recovered. She followed Guan Fei’s aura, entwining a tongue of flame that surged forward. Brilliant sparks exploded amidst the ice and snow.
The fight ahead grew intense. Yi Rong finally regained her senses. Seeing the situation becoming a chaotic mess and with a shouting person beside her adding to the trouble, she felt a massive headache.
However, she had no time to worry about someone else’s family matters. Seeing Yan Xingyu about to start screaming again, she decided to cover the woman’s mouth once more and carry her away.
Guan Suxue didn’t block their departure. She neutralized her daughter’s incoming moves one by one and said, “When you were little, I told you to be friends with Rou’er and you refused.”
“Now that you’re grown, you’ve become so close.”
Guan Fei replied, “She isn’t Yan Rou.”
Guan Suxue froze. “What do you mean by that?”
Guan Fei had no intention of answering her mother’s question. Taking advantage of the other’s momentary lapse in focus, she threw a handful of powder into the sea, luring the Sea Dragon up.
She jumped onto the Sea Dragon’s back with Jiaoyu, took control of it, and used its massive body to stir up a frenzy within the barrier, turning the world upside down.
On the way to Fu City after escaping the Lingluan Palace, the person in Yi Rong’s arms gradually calmed down. However, just as they were nearing the town, Yi Rong felt a sharp pain in her hand.
Seeing that Yan Xingyu had bitten her palm, Yi Rong instinctively loosened her grip. “Why did you bite my hand?”
“You can’t enter the city.” A flicker of clarity suddenly appeared in Yan Xingyu’s blurred eyes. She reached out, cupping Yi Rong’s face, and said word by word, “Your face… it cannot be seen.”
Her breath swept over Yi Rong dominantly, her nose slightly cold. Although Yi Rong had used her energy to dry the water off her earlier, it seemed the long time spent in the sea meant that only the part Yi Rong was holding had warmed up.
The rest of her was still quite chilly. Thinking this, Yi Rong exhaled softly, warming the woman’s small face with her hands before asking, “Why?”
Feeling the warm breath tickling her, a sensation that was both itchy and comfortable. Yan Xingyu knew it was this person’s doing. Sinking into that softness brought her a sense of joy and comfort.
Flashbacks of the wanted posters flickered through her mind. She mumbled, “Because you’ll be caught. Hide. Fast.”
“Let’s hide together.”
