I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 28
Being pulled out of the banquet hall and led some distance away, Guan Fei stepped forward to block Jiao Yu’s path. She reached out and lifted Jiao Yu’s other hand, causing her to naturally let go of the person she was holding. With a smile, Guan Fei asked, “Yu Yu, why did you lead us out in such a hurry?”
Seeing herself cornered by this person again, Jiao Yu pushed Guan Fei away and quickened her pace, leaving only the back of her head visible as she snapped, “None of your business.”
The most bewildered among them was Yan Xingyu. She couldn’t understand why she had been dragged out too; she had found the wine quite delicious and wanted to drink a bit more.
Jiao Yu looked back and saw they hadn’t kept up. she called out loudly, “Yan Xingyu, don’t you want to repair your spiritual veins? If you don’t follow me right now, I won’t help you.”
Since this was her top priority lately, Yan Xingyu immediately hurried forward upon hearing this. “I’m coming, I’m coming! Wait for me, little one.”
The group followed Jiao Yu through the corridors. Yan Xingyu found the path familiar sure enough, they soon arrived at the medicinal springs she had visited the day before. Under the sunlight, the water shimmered, surrounded by exotic herbs and rare flowers competing for attention.
Yan Xingyu asked, “Little one, why did you bring us here?”
Jiao Yu stepped forward, opened the door to a wing room, and looked at them. “Didn’t you say you needed a place with abundant spiritual energy to repair the spiritual veins? My family’s medicinal spring is the place with the most abundant spiritual energy.”
“Go inside. I will set up an array for you.”
Although Yan Xingyu was anxious to repair her veins, Jiao Yu seemed even more impatient than she was.
“You two, hurry up and come over.”
Hearing this, Guan Fei took the lead and walked over. “Xingyu, come. There’s no time like the present. Repairing your spiritual veins as soon as possible will also put my mind at ease.”
Yan Xingyu agreed and entered the room. A loud thud followed as the door was slammed shut, startling her. She wondered to herself if the little girl really needed to be in such a fiery rush.
Guan Fei smiled and shook her head, saying to her, “Xingyu, sit directly on the bed. Repairing the spiritual veins takes a long time; be prepared.”
Yan Xingyu replied, “Alright, Guan Fei, I’ll be counting on you.”
“There is no need for such formalities between us.”
Outside, Jiao Yu heard their conversation and guessed they were about to begin. She raised her hand to form an array, drawing the spiritual energy from the spring into the room.
Yi Rong noticed that Jiao Yu’s array was unstable, as if she had only recently learned it. She reached out to add a reinforcing layer to the outer circle of the array. Watching the spiritual energy stabilize and flow smoothly inside, she said, “Go and rest. I will stand guard for them out here.”
“Precisely my intention.” Jiao Yu lowered her hand and turned to leave, only to see her two elder sisters walking toward her.
She pursed her lips and asked, “Eldest Sister, Second Sister, what are you doing here?”
Jiao Yue looked at the array her younger sister had set up and teased, “I was wondering why Yu Yu ran off so fast. It turns out she was in a hurry to hide someone away.”
“Eldest Sister, what are you talking about?”
Jiao Yan watched Jiao Yu’s act of feigned ignorance and her refusal to give a straight answer. Covering her mouth, she laughed. “Yu Yu, this doesn’t look like you. Since when are you afraid to admit what you’ve done?”
Jiao Yu had expected her sisters to find out, though she hadn’t expected them to notice so quickly. She stated, “Between me and Guan Fei, there’s no need for you to say more.”
Seeing her sister’s face drop as she prepared to throw a tantrum, Jiao Yue said with a smile, “Yu Yu, we haven’t said anything yet, and here you are about to lose your temper.”
Jiao Yan followed up, “Yes, Yu Yu, we aren’t here to criticize you. Mother actually thinks the person you’ve set your sights on is quite decent.”
Jiao Yu’s eyes brightened at this. Seeing this, Jiao Yue knew her sister’s heart was truly involved, so she could only let her be happy.
However, she couldn’t help but offer a reminder: “But the ultimate paths of humans and demons are different. Yu Yu, do not fall too deep.”
“I knew you would still say things like that.” Jiao Yu’s face darkened instantly, her tone turning cold. “The path is mine to walk. Whether they are the same or not, we haven’t even reached that stage yet. What right do you have to judge so early?”
Hearing the sharp tone in her sister’s voice, Jiao Yan didn’t dare say more. She secretly tugged on their eldest sister’s sleeve and said with a smile, “Yu Yu, we only want you to be happy. You’re grown now and don’t need your sisters to protect you anymore. I believe you can go very far on your own.”
Jiao Yue caught the signal from the person beside her and followed suit: “Whatever you want to do, your sisters will naturally support you. It’s rare for you to come home, don’t be cross with us.”
Seeing her sisters relent as soon as she acted angry, Jiao Yu’s expression softened slightly, though she kept her face tight. “If what you’re saying is true, then don’t say anything reckless in front of Guan Fei in the future, or I will hate you forever.”
“Of course it’s true,” Jiao Yan stepped forward to coax her sister. “Yu Yu, you are the apple of our eye, though now it seems someone else has become the apple of yours.”
At the teasing, Jiao Yu’s cold expression finally melted. She huffed, “She doesn’t get that kind of treatment.”
Jiao Yue saw the bashful joy on her sister’s face. It was rare to see her so fond of someone. She smiled softly and said no more. Looking up at the array in front of the wing room, where spiritual energy was continuously flowing in, she asked, “What is happening in there?”
Jiao Yu replied, “Yan Xingyu’s spiritual veins are damaged. Guan Fei is repairing them for her.”
Jiao Yue understood. “No wonder. I noticed that little sister’s pulse was weak and her internal energy was hollow yesterday. I was planning to give her a proper check-up today, so that’s the reason.”
“Repairing spiritual veins takes at least a week. During this time, Yu Yu, you must stay here and guard them to prevent any accidents.”
Jiao Yu hadn’t expected it to take so long. She frowned. “Why does it take so long?”
Jiao Yue explained, “Spiritual veins are like the lifeblood of a cultivator. Unless they suffer a severe blow, they don’t easily get damaged. Therefore, repairing them is an arduous task.”
“Not only does it require a massive amount of auxiliary spiritual energy, but the person performing the repair must also continuously supply their own spiritual energy to reconnect the veins. This process cannot be interrupted, or all previous efforts will be wasted.”
Hearing her sister’s explanation, Jiao Yu began to worry about the condition of the people inside.
Yi Rong spoke up, “I will be here the entire time. Do not worry. Just wait patiently for them to come out.”
Jiao Yu agreed.
As suns set and moons rose in a continuous cycle, half a month passed, and the two still had not emerged. However, since the flow of spiritual energy remained unbroken, they did not dare enter uninvited.
A few days ago, two emerald birds had flown in from nowhere, hovering around the eaves outside the door and refusing to leave. Seeing this, Yi Rong had taken to feeding them.
Jiao Yu came over and saw Yi Rong quietly feeding the birds with food in her palm. She remarked, “Those birds are becoming quite familiar with you, yet those two still haven’t come out.”
Yi Rong said, “Perhaps they will come out in a few days.”
“You always say that, but day after day, there’s no movement.”
“Be patient. They will come out eventually.”
“That’s easy to say, but…” Jiao Yu looked toward the room. As more time passed, her heart grew more anxious. She even wondered if she had rushed Guan Fei into this without proper preparation, leading to this delay.
Seeing her somber expression and guessing her thoughts, Yi Rong said, “Guan Fei is stronger than you imagine. Nothing will happen. We just need to wait patiently.”
Jiao Yu retorted, “Are you that close to Guan Fei? How do you know she’ll be fine?”
Yi Rong thought of something and was about to speak when she suddenly sensed a change behind her. She turned to look; the array was dissipating, and the door was being opened.
Jiao Yu rushed over. She saw that Guan Fei had grown much thinner. Her lips were pale, and her entire being exuded exhaustion and weakness, as if a gust of wind could knock her over.
Her heart ached at the sight, but Guan Fei was the first to offer comfort: “Yu Yu, I’m alright. But could you take me back to the room to rest for a while?”
Hearing this, Jiao Yu reached out to support her. She glanced inside and saw the person lying on the bed, breathing steadily and sleeping peacefully. She retracted her gaze and led Guan Fei away.
At that moment, the two emerald birds on Yi Rong’s hand flew to Guan Fei’s side. Guan Fei paused for a fraction of a second before immediately adjusting her pace and continuing forward with Jiao Yu.
“Xingyu will wake up in two hours.”
Leaving these words behind, Yi Rong stepped into the room. She looked at the person on the bed, seeing no abnormalities, she reached out to check her recovery. Sensing the abundant spiritual energy within her, Yi Rong felt relieved.
However, a silver snake suddenly appeared behind Yan Xingyu’s ear, staring at her with cold, predatory eyes.
Yi Rong withdrew her hand and silently walked to a small table on the other side of the room to sit down, merely watching the snake.
Jiao Yu noticed that the two emerald birds were not only following Guan Fei but had even followed her into the bedroom. She waved her hand to drive them away, but seeing they weren’t afraid of people, she asked, “What’s with these birds?”
Guan Fei sat down and beckoned an emerald bird into her palm. She said, “Yu Yu, these are actually messenger birds from my home. Look.”
A white plum blossom sprouted from her fingertip. One of the birds pecked at the flower and swallowed it, transforming into a streak of green light that flew into Guan Fei’s ear.
Jiao Yu looked on in surprise. She even leaned in to inspect the ear closely, but found nothing.
Guan Fei noticed her small movements and couldn’t help but smile. She pulled Jiao Yu into her arms and held her, asking, “Did you see anything?”
Jiao Yu instinctively hooked her arms around Guan Fei’s neck. The other woman’s scent washed over her. Hearing the warm voice whispering in her ear, the tips of Jiao Yu’s ears turned red from the heat of the breath.
She hummed, “Nothing at all. It seems only you know what the message says, no one else can see it.”
“Indeed. But I can tell Yu Yu who sent the letter and what they said.”
“What is it?”
Seeing her interest, Guan Fei didn’t hide it from her. “It’s a letter from Miss Liu. She says Xingyu’s arrest warrant has been rescinded, so she no longer needs to hide.”
Hearing this, Jiao Yu just gave an “Oh.” Guan Fei then asked, “Besides being curious about that, is there anything else you’re curious about regarding me?”
“I’m not curious about you at all.”
“But I am quite curious about you, Yu Yu.”
Jiao Yu’s eyes flickered as she asked, “What are you curious about?”
Guan Fei smiled and leaned even closer to her ear. “I’m curious… if Yu Yu missed me.”
“I didn’t miss you at all.”
Guan Fei let out a long, intentional “Oh,” her lips curling into a smirk as they brushed against a soft, warm little ear. She whispered, “Then why are your ears so red, Yu Yu?”
