I Need To Find A Way To Make Her Love Me Again - Chapter 13
The green shade cast patches of golden light. Yielding to the wind, she floated high. Yan Xingyu opened her eyes and found herself trapped in the body of a little girl. Unable to move, she could only accompany the girl on a swing.
The rustling wind carried the sound of leaves dancing around her. In front of her, clusters of white peonies spread their branches, releasing a fragrance that attracted bees and butterflies. The girl leisurely swung on the swing until a clear female voice drifted from a distance.
“Rou’er.”
Yan Rou heard her mother’s voice and stopped moving. She flung herself off the rocking swing and ran toward the sound.
Watching the woman’s figure gradually approach, she saw her long, slender eyebrows and eyes filled with a smile, reflecting the small figure running toward her. The wind lifted the sleeves of her soft, cloudy-silk robe, revealing her well-defined fingers tightly clasped by another small hand.
Yan Rou ran over and noticed the strange, yet very beautiful, little girl beside her mother. Seeing the girl’s pale amber eyes, she slowed her steps and asked, “Mother, who is this?”
Yan Xingyu, observing the facial features that were miniature versions of the adult, was greatly alarmed. Isn’t this Yi Rong? Is she perhaps inside Yan Rou’s dream?
The woman then spoke the very name that had just popped into her mind: “Rou’er, this is Yi Rong. She will live with us from now on.”
Yan Rou tilted her head, confused, and asked, “Mother, why?”
“Because Yi Rong’s mother has passed away, and she entrusted her to me for safekeeping. Rou’er, would you like to have an older sister to keep you company?”
Hearing her mother’s words, Yan Rou’s eyes widened. She ran to the girl, took her hand, and said, “Yi Rong, don’t be sad. We are family now.”
Little Yi Rong looked at the girl grasping her hand, feeling a bit flustered, and could only nod.
Yan Xiaoxiang reached out to stroke her daughter’s little head and said, “Rou’er, you should call Yi Rong ‘Older Sister.’ She is three years older than you, you know.”
Yan Xingyu looked at the woman’s gentle smile and felt momentarily lost in thought. Yan Rou’s mother and her own maternal aunt looked very much alike perfect copies but the woman before her seemed softer.
Yan Rou held up her hand to compare her height with Yi Rong’s and replied, “But Yi Rong is the same height as me.”
Yan Xiaoxiang smiled and said, “Rou’er, your heights are just similar.”
Yan Rou pouted and said, “I don’t want to be the younger sister. I want to be the older sister.”
“Yi Rong, let me be the older sister, okay? That way I can take care of you.”
Little Yi Rong didn’t know how to answer her and looked up at the woman with eager eyes, hoping she would answer for her.
Yan Xiaoxiang looked at her daughter throwing a small tantrum, resigned yet dotingly said, “Alright, then. But Rou’er, Yi Rong hasn’t had much contact with people and isn’t very good at talking, so you have to be more patient with her, okay?”
“I know, Mother.” Yan Rou said, then immediately pulled Yi Rong forward. She said, “Yi Rong, let’s go swing on the swing together. I’ll push you.”
Thus, her solitary swing gained a second figure. The two little girls quickly started playing together. Yan Xingyu watched the girl sitting on the swing, her lips slightly curved in a shallow smile. Her pale amber eyes were also tinged with a warm glow, becoming bright and moving.
Suddenly, the scene shifted. A chilling ice coffin appeared before her, containing a woman. Her eyes were tightly closed, her face pale, and her beautiful appearance looked withered. Yan Xingyu was stunned, seeing the grown-up Yi Rong in the coffin.
Yan Rou reached out to smooth a strand of stray hair by the woman’s ear and asked, “Mother, when will Yi Rong wake up?”
Yan Xingyu turned to look at the woman beside the coffin. She suspended a water spirit crystal in the air, murmuring incantations, forming seals and arranging a formation. Blue light suddenly burst forth in the hall, and countless threads of spiritual energy flew into Yi Rong’s body.
Yan Xiaoxiang looked at the sleeping figure, her heartache evident. She said, “Yi Rong will be in a deep sleep for three years before she can wake up. Rou’er, you must protect her heart well, understand?”
Yan Rou listened and took hold of the figure’s hand, which was hanging limp at her side, wanting to warm her icy hand. Looking at her bloodless face, she said, “Mother, I know.”
“Yi Rong, this time it’s my turn to watch over you. You must wake up quickly, too.”
Yan Xingyu watched the scene, recalling what Little Silver had said: Was this the period when Yan Rou was poisoned, and Palace Master Yan dug out Yi Rong’s heart to save her daughter?
The scene shifted again. She held a silver sword, piercing the human faced, horse bodied demonic creature attacking her. Yan Rou looked up at the person dressed in black wielding a sword pointed at her mother in the distance.
That was the sister she had grown up with since childhood. Her usually pale amber eyes were now filled with madness. As if seeing her next move, Yan Rou screamed, “Yi Rong!”
But her voice went unheard, only to be met by the sight of the sword plunging into her mother’s body, causing her own mind to go blank.
Then, she also felt an intense pain. Yan Rou looked down at the sword piercing through her own body. She fell, struggling to raise her head. Her mother, in her line of sight, was still looking at her, a familiar smile still lingering on her lips, instantly bringing tears to Yan Rou’s eyes.
Yan Rou wanted to crawl toward her mother but couldn’t move. The pain finally scattered her consciousness.
“Don’t!”
A scream echoed through the hall. She vaguely thought, That sounds like Yi Rong’s voice.
Yan Xingyu suddenly opened her eyes, seeing a fluffy face staring at her. Upon seeing her awake, it turned its head, leaving a fiery red tail facing her.
Guan Fei heard the movement and walked over, saying, “Xingyu, you’re finally awake. How do you feel?”
Yan Xingyu felt a bit dizzy. Seeing the bright white light outside the window, she found it a bit harsh and slightly squinted her eyes.
Liu Ruoni saw that the person was awake but still looked a bit confused, and said, “Miss Yan, whose dream did you enter that you couldn’t find your way out?”
Yan Xingyu’s thoughts slowly returned. Thinking of the Monkey of Wrath, her brow furrowed. “Where is that little demon?”
Liu Ruoni replied, “I collected it. Do you want it to give you another sweet dream?”
Yan Xingyu shot her a sideways glance. “No need. Who woke me up?”
Liu Ruoni gestured with her eyes toward the little fox that had hopped back into Guan Fei’s arms. “The little one did.”
Yan Xingyu was a bit surprised to hear it was the little one. She recalled it ran off yesterday and thought it wouldn’t return. “Little one, why did you come back? Why aren’t you running away now that you’ve recovered your strength?”
Jiaoyu looked at the person who had awakened, not offering any kind words, and rolled its eyes. “Mind your own business.”
Guan Fei stroked the little one in her arms and smiled, saying, “Yuyu, thank you for helping.”
Yan Xingyu watched as Guan Fei said this and took out another spiritual elixir to feed it. She suddenly realized the situation; she finally understood why the little one had returned.
It was greedy for Guan Fei’s spiritual elixirs. However, seeing that the little one wasn’t causing trouble anymore, it seemed somewhat cute.
Yan Xingyu got up from the bed and said, “I didn’t expect to be tricked by a little demon. I’ll have to be more careful next time.”
Liu Ruoni laughed. “It’s fortunate it was a minor demon, otherwise you really wouldn’t have woken up.”
Yan Xingyu replied, “I don’t take dangerous jobs anyway.”
Guan Fei said, “Xingyu, this time it’s my fault for being careless and not telling you beforehand. I’m sorry.”
“It’s nothing, I’m fine.” Thinking of the dream just now, a dark glint flashed in Yan Xingyu’s eyes. She said, “Besides, that dream was my own.”
Liu Ruoni’s eyelid twitched upon hearing this. She glanced at Guan Fei before saying, “I saw that something was wrong with you when you encountered the Monkey of Wrath yesterday. You were indeed robbed of a memory, but…”
She paused for a moment and then continued, “Dreams are like clouds and smoke, all illusory. There’s nothing to dwell on.”
“The sky is very bright outside. We should go.”
Yan Xingyu understood the implication of her words. Her lips curved slightly. “I know.”
