I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 59
He Aizhi arrived home late at night and saw a figure standing by the door from a distance.
As she drew closer, she realized it was actually Duan Bainian.
He Aizhi stepped out of the car, closed the door, and spoke with a distant yet polite tone. “Are you here looking for Su Miao?”
Duan Bainian smiled. “No, I came to find you, Auntie.”
He Aizhi asked, “To talk about Su Miao?”
Duan Bainian seemed a bit constrained. “Not entirely… Auntie, can we go inside to talk?”
He Aizhi prepared to enter the house. “Regarding Su Miao, I have nothing to talk to you about.”
There was a hint of pleading in Duan Bainian’s voice. “Auntie, just give me ten minutes, okay?”
He Aizhi’s movements to open the door paused. “What do you want to say?”
Fearing this opportunity might vanish in an instant, Duan Bainian suppressed her panic and pulled an agreement out of her backpack, handing it to He Aizhi.
It was an agreement regarding the transfer of shares in her studio.
He Aizhi said in surprise, “What is this?”
Duan Bainian forced a slight smile, trying to make herself less nervous.
“This is the equity transfer agreement for the studio. In my personal studio, I own 66.6% of the shares, and Yu Xue owns 33.3%. I want to transfer my 66.6% to Su Miao.”
He Aizhi hesitated for a moment. “What is the meaning of this?”
Duan Bainian tried her best to calm down. “I know Su Miao doesn’t lack money, nor does she lack these shares in my studio, but this is everything I can offer. This is my only sincerity.”
He Aizhi found it somewhat humorous. “Sincerity? The sincerity of an apology?”
Duan Bainian’s expression shifted. “Auntie, please don’t say it like that. I truly know I was wrong. Su Miao’s heart is very shallow; I should have protected and taken care of her instead of making her sad. But my desire to spend a lifetime with her has never changed.”
Seeing that He Aizhi remained silent, she continued, “I know I made Su Miao sad in the past, but this was also my first relationship. I didn’t have any experience in managing a relationship, so many times the things I said and did were inappropriate. But don’t people learn from their mistakes to go further? So, I hope you can give me a chance to make it up to Su Miao.”
He Aizhi replied, “Words like ‘making amends’ have no meaning when spoken. Once that window of time has passed, it is no longer needed.”
Duan Bainian said urgently, “But I need it!”
Duan Bainian looked at He Aizhi expectantly. “Auntie, back when I was preparing to leave the industry, you were the one who said Su Miao needed me, which pushed me to make the decision to stay. Now it is my turn to need Su Miao. So, can you let her stay?”
He Aizhi was slightly surprised. Based on their past interactions, she had never seen that Duan Bainian needed Su Miao. Wasn’t it always Su Miao shamelessly following behind Duan Bainian?
“From your interactions with Su Miao, I cannot see that you need her.”
Duan Bainian said with an annoyed expression, “In the past, I didn’t do well enough. Auntie, actually, I am very envious that Su Miao has a mother like you to love and care for her, because I don’t have that. I grew up with my grandmother; my parents didn’t really care for me. Later, when my grandmother passed away, there was no one left to care about me. So when I met Su Miao later, you don’t know how happy I was. She is the warmest person in this world. Being with her makes me truly happy, especially relaxed and comfortable. She is very cute; in my eyes, she is the best person in the world. If I lose her, I… I simply dare not imagine it.”
He Aizhi asked, “So? Why did you make such a good person sad? She followed you all the way to Gansu and wouldn’t even pick up my calls, yet unexpectedly, she came home crying.”
Duan Bainian’s expression turned strange.
Because she thought of the catalyst for their last argument.
And that catalyst was standing right in front of her.
Duan Bainian hesitated for a moment and decided to speak honestly.
“At that time, the two of us fought because of you, and then, I… I said very hurtful things.”
He Aizhi froze. “What do you mean… fought because of me?”
Duan Bainian spoke carefully. “That… Auntie, don’t be angry when I say this, because I am already changing now.”
He Aizhi said, “Speak.”
“That night, the two of us had a dispute over the contract termination. She wanted to persuade me to return to Nanyang Entertainment. She said I was foolish—the whole company’s resources were prioritized for me to choose from, yet I was still thinking about terminating the contract.”
“Of course, she didn’t know that you had come to see me before. At that time, my work was a mess, and I was overly sensitive. I was triggered by the words you said to me when you came to find me. So when she said those things, I acted on impulse and said very hurtful things.”
Seeing He Aizhi’s expression turn subtle, Duan Bainian quickly explained, “I don’t mean to shift the blame to you. At that time, my perspective was indeed too small. When you haven’t achieved things yourself, you are always insecure and judge the hearts of others with a petty mind. But once you actually achieve it and step out of that situation, you realize you were really naive. Looking back now, everything you did was entirely out of a mother’s desire to protect her daughter; I can understand that. I regretted saying those things immediately after I said them. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a chance to explain. That is why now, I especially hope you can give me a chance to make it up to Su Miao, because I really need her.”
A strange thought surfaced in He Aizhi’s mind.
So, Su Miao’s sadness was the result of the combined actions of herself and Duan Bainian?
She had to admit that in order to push Duan Bainian and Su Miao to break up, she had indeed intentionally said those things. But her goal was only to get Duan Bainian to break up; how could she have known that those words would take a detour and eventually hurt her own daughter?
She began to doubt herself.
Perhaps making decisions for Su Miao wasn’t necessarily for her own good.
Seeing that He Aizhi remained silent, Duan Bainian spoke softly, “Auntie?”
He Aizhi snapped out of it. “What is it?”
Duan Bainian said, “Having been together for two years, you know my character. In everyone’s eyes, I should be considered a good person, right? In the past, I was immature and hurt her, but now I really want to change. I am transferring the studio shares because I have nothing except the studio; the studio is the most important thing I own. Whatever I have, I want to give it all to her.”
She looked at He Aizhi expectantly. “So, Auntie, can you give me one more chance? You can observe for a few weeks and see. If you think I’m still not good enough, I promise to disappear immediately.”
Caught in self-doubt and moved by the sincerity in Duan Bainian’s words, He Aizhi felt a mix of emotions. She frowned and said, “Whether or not to give you a chance is not for me to decide.”
Duan Bainian accurately grasped the hint of softening in her words and said with pleasant surprise, “So, as long as Su Miao agrees, you will agree, right?”
He Aizhi pushed open the door. “I need to rest. We’ll talk about it later.”
Watching He Aizhi close the door behind her, Duan Bainian couldn’t help but start laughing.
She hadn’t expected to move He Aizhi all at once, but this kind of half-pushing, half-yielding tacit consent already made her very satisfied. As long as she was given the chance, she could definitely make He Aizhi approve of her.
She left the agreement at the door and then sent a text to He Aizhi: “Auntie, I’ve left the agreement at the door. Please take it when you have a moment. I’ll come to see you again in a couple of days when I have a free slot.”
Leaving the villa, Duan Bainian went back to rest for the night. The next morning, she bought a ticket and went to Su Miao’s film set.
Su Miao, who was currently rehearsing her lines, was startled to see Duan Bainian. “Are you ‘past your prime’ and no shows are inviting you, or what? How are you so idle every day?”
Duan Bainian smiled. “Aside from that reality show, there are a few other endorsements. I’ve turned down all my recent invitations.”
Su Miao looked at Duan Bainian suspiciously, feeling more and more that Duan Bainian was ill.
In the past, this person was so busy her feet barely touched the ground and she couldn’t bear to turn down any invitation. Now she had actually turned them all down?
Truly a “see it to believe it” moment.
Seeing that Su Miao didn’t speak, Duan Bainian changed the subject. “What do you want to eat tonight? Still want to eat at that grilled fish place? I remember you used to love that. Let’s go together.”
Su Miao instinctively refused. “Not eating.”
Duan Bainian asked, “Then how about hot pot? Or Sichuan cuisine? Japanese? Buffet?”
Su Miao said, “I have to film now, I’m not talking to you anymore.” After saying that, she stood up and left the rest area.
Su Miao marched out of the rest room valiantly. After walking a long distance, she couldn’t help but steal a glance back, only to lock eyes with Duan Bainian.
Su Miao turned her head back as if she had been pricked by a needle, but the smile on that person’s face during their eye contact lingered in her mind.
The more Su Miao thought about it, the angrier she got.
She shouldn’t have looked back!
She let Duan Bainian see a joke!
Su Miao walked around for a bit but didn’t know where to go. She didn’t have any scenes scheduled for the afternoon; she was just waiting for An Qiu to finish work. After circling around with nowhere to go, she returned to the rest room, thinking that if Duan Bainian was still there, she would drive her away.
To her surprise, Duan Bainian was gone.
Su Miao breathed a sigh of relief, yet she felt a faint sense of loss in her heart.
Once An Qiu finished work, the two of them went to eat together and then returned to the hotel.
Just as she stepped out of the elevator, Su Miao spotted Duan Bainian right at her room door.
Su Miao instinctively wanted to go back into the elevator and go downstairs, but then she felt indignant.
This was her room; why should she be the one to leave?!
She walked up to her door with a facade of indifference. “What are you doing here?”
Duan Bainian looked at her with a smile. “Waiting for you.”
Su Miao ignored her, opened the door, and went in, intending to shut it.
The person outside reached out and propped the door open.
Su Miao naturally didn’t dare to use force, fearing she would catch Duan Bainian’s hand. She glared and said, “What are you doing?!”
Duan Bainian smiled. “I’ve waited for you for so long, and you won’t even invite me in for a glass of water?”
Su Miao was annoyed to death.
How did this look like someone seeking reconciliation? She was simply a rogue!
And she thought she could reconcile with her like this?!
In her dreams!
Su Miao pushed hard against Duan Bainian’s shoulder. “You are not welcome here! Go away!”
Duan Bainian’s smile became even more radiant. “I’m not leaving. If you have the ability, drag me out just like I used to drag you.”
Su Miao was simply driven mad with anger!
This person had no shame at all! She clearly knew Su Miao couldn’t drag her, yet she intentionally said such things!
She angrily pulled the door wide open. “If you won’t leave, I will!”
Duan Bainian grabbed Su Miao’s arm. “Don’t do that. What if you go downstairs and get bitten by a dog again? Then you’ll be crying again because you can’t see Frozen.”
Su Miao hadn’t expected that even after all this time, this incident would be brought up to mock her. Her head felt numb with anger. She grabbed Duan Bainian’s arm and bit down on it.
Duan Bainian hissed in pain.
She never expected that the one being bitten wouldn’t be Su Miao, but herself.
