I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 36.1
“I Just Love Her Simple-Mindedness and Wealth”
After spending a few days at Disneyland, the two of them headed directly to Sanya to prepare for the filming of the next episode of the show.
At two o’clock in the afternoon, they were driven to the filming site by the program crew’s car. They arrived a bit early, and since the other guests had not yet appeared and she couldn’t act affectionately with Duan Bainian in front of the cameras, Su Miao felt incredibly bored. Consequently, she went to the lounge, intending to take a short nap.
After an unknown amount of time, Su Miao was woken up in a daze by a staff member. “Su Miao, the recording is about to start. Why don’t you get up and get ready?”
Su Miao got up groggily, tidied her makeup in front of the camera, left the lounge, and walked toward the recording hall.
As soon as she entered the hall, Su Miao instantly perked up.
This was because she saw Bai Yi intimately hugging Duan Bainian. She didn’t know what was being said, but both of them were laughing uncontrollably.
Su Miao was furious. What was wrong with this Bai Yi? She was already entangled with Yu Xue; was she turning around now to mess with Duan Bainian?
And Duan Bainian actually didn’t push her away?
However, Su Miao had always been a coward. Even though she was exploding with anger inside, she never considered stepping forward to declare her territory. Especially in a public place with outsiders where she had to hide her relationship with Duan Bainian, it was even more impossible for her to do anything extreme.
Su Miao stood there for a long while, watching Bai Yi lean close to Duan Bainian, let go, lean in again, and let go again. It wasn’t until the host urged them to begin recording that Bai Yi reluctantly left Duan Bainian’s side and returned to her seat.
A nearby staff member reminded her, “Hurry over there, everyone is waiting for you.”
Su Miao nodded gloomily and trotted back to her seat.
Duan Bainian conveniently pulled out Su Miao’s chair. “Did you sleep well?”
Su Miao’s mouth felt like it wouldn’t open. “Mm.”
Duan Bainian found it strange. “Did someone disturb your sleep? You look like you’re in a bad mood.”
Su Miao’s fingers unconsciously scratched the wooden table in front of her. “No.”
Duan Bainian wanted to ask more, but seeing that the recording had started, she could only let it drop.
To make the show more watchable, a new game segment had been added: Musical Chairs. The person who failed to grab a seat had to start with the phrase “I know an artist…” and reveal a story about what that artist had done. The revelation had to be sensational; otherwise, there would be a punishment.
There were seven people and six chairs.
Fortunately, the male guests were too embarrassed to snatch seats from the female guests, so Su Miao didn’t get caught once.
After a few rounds, Su Miao gradually noticed something was wrong. At some point, Bai Yi started constantly hovering around Duan Bainian, using the game as an excuse to initiate various types of physical contact with her.
There were seven people in total—three men and four women. Why didn’t Bai Yi crowd in front of Su Miao or Yu Xue? Why did she keep pestering Duan Bainian?
Recalling how Bai Yi had been clinging to Duan Bainian before the recording started, the anger Su Miao had barely managed to swallow surged back up again.
The host said, “Music… Stop!”
Su Miao angrily lunged for a chair. As luck would have it, she and Bai Yi ended up competing for the same one.
Normally, given Su Miao’s cowardly nature, she would have naturally yielded to Bai Yi. But at this moment, she was like a pufferfish that had been poked—full of air and rage. Without a second thought, she shoved Bai Yi away and sat firmly on the chair herself.
Bai Yi never expected Su Miao to use such force. She staggered and bumped into Yu Xue.
This collision knocked Yu Xue out of the circle, while Bai Yi herself ended up sitting on the chair in front of Yu Xue.
Everything happened in a flash. By the time Yu Xue reacted, everyone was already seated. She sighed helplessly, “You caught me.”
The host laughed, “Haha, listening to a veteran Movie Queen spill the tea—this should be explosive!”
Yu Xue glanced at Bai Yi. “Let me think.”
After a moment, Yu Xue spoke, “I know a ‘post-95s’ starlet. She slept with a co-star… and then…”
Yu Xue stopped and didn’t continue.
The half-finished sentence hooked everyone’s curiosity. The host followed up, “And then what?”
Yu Xue said meaningfully, “There is no ‘then.’ The starlet… she’s young, but she’s certainly ‘wild.’ It’s hard to say more. Let’s continue to the next round.”
Su Miao, who was engrossed in the gossip, felt a bit disappointed at not hearing the ending.
However, because she had shoved Bai Yi earlier, Su Miao felt much better. And perhaps because that shove had been effective, Bai Yi didn’t try to crowd Duan Bainian in the subsequent rounds of the game.
Su Miao couldn’t help but peek at Bai Yi several times. Was the effect of that shove really that good?
After the recording ended, Duan Bainian instinctively reached out to grab Su Miao’s wrist as usual, but to her surprise, Su Miao dodged her.
Duan Bainian had sensed something was wrong for a while. She now asked carefully, “What’s wrong with you?”
Su Miao kept a wooden face. “Nothing.”
Duan Bainian laughed. “Since when did you start saying one thing and meaning another? Look at how much your pout is sticking out—does that look like ‘nothing’?”
Hearing this, Su Miao couldn’t hold it back anymore. “Do you like Bai Yi?”
Duan Bainian was shocked. “Why would you think that?”
Su Miao said indignantly, “You were hugging and clinging to Bai Yi all day today! And you looked so happy doing it!”
Su Miao’s voice rose, suddenly attracting inquisitive looks from the surrounding staff. Duan Bainian’s heart skipped a beat, and she lowered her voice. “Keep it down, or people will start spreading rumors that we don’t get along. Let’s go. I’ll explain it to you when we get back to the room.”
Su Miao stood there for a moment before silently heading out to the production van.
They didn’t speak on the way. Su Miao naturally didn’t want to talk, while Duan Bainian didn’t dare to speak. She was afraid that saying something might make Su Miao emotional again; if they started arguing in the crew’s car and someone overheard, it wouldn’t be good.
Su Miao felt terrible.
After the initial phase of feeling stifled, she now felt purely dejected. This was because she suddenly realized that Bai Yi was more feminine than her and had a personality better suited to pleasing people. If Duan Bainian really liked Bai Yi, it would be perfectly normal.
It was Duan Bainian liking her that felt abnormal, wasn’t it?
Back in the room, Su Miao sat quietly on the bed, saying nothing.
Duan Bainian went to make a cup of milk and handed it to Su Miao. “Drink some of this, it’s good for your stomach.”
Su Miao took it but merely placed it on the table without drinking.
Duan Bainian spoke cautiously, “I’ll start by apologizing to you.”
Su Miao’s eyes widened. “Why are you apologizing? Do you really like Bai Yi?”
Truly admiring Su Miao’s train of thought, Duan Bainian felt helpless and amused. “How could I like her? I’m apologizing because I didn’t strongly refuse when she came to hug me today.”
Her thoughts having been hit spot-on, Su Miao looked awkwardly at the floor. “What’s the use of an apology? Didn’t you already hug her?”
Duan Bainian explained, “When she came to hug me this afternoon, I did push her away. But she acted like nothing had happened and kept leaning in again after being pushed. It was the recording site with cameras and an audience everywhere; I couldn’t exactly have a falling out with her, could I?”
Su Miao believed this explanation; Duan Bainian was indeed a “nice person” who didn’t know how to refuse.
However, at this moment, Su Miao was no longer obsessing over whether the explanation was reasonable. She kept thinking: Why would Duan Bainian date her?
Su Miao spoke hesitantly, “Duan Bainian…”
“Yes?”
Su Miao gritted her teeth and asked, “You… why do you want to date me? What do you like about me?”
After saying it, Su Miao’s heart pounded wildly. What answer would Duan Bainian give?
Did she like her because she was pretty? But there were plenty of people in the entertainment industry prettier than her.
Did she like her because she was young? There were also plenty of younger female artists.
Aside from those two things, she didn’t have much of an advantage.
While Su Miao was lost in thought, she heard Duan Bainian speak. “Then why do you like me?”
Su Miao answered without thinking, “Because you’re beautiful.”
Duan Bainian smiled. “Then I like you because you are beautiful, too.”
Su Miao curled her lip. “But there are many people in the industry prettier than me.”
Duan Bainian nodded. “And there are many people prettier than me in the industry, too. Why do you still like me?”
Su Miao thought for a moment. “Because you’re not just beautiful, you’re also good to me.”
Duan Bainian said, “Exactly. You are beautiful and you are good to me, so I like you. Is there a problem with that?”
This answer left Su Miao confused. Was her love really this ordinary and common? Why did novels and TV shows describe love as something earth-shattering and unique?
“Then if Bai Yi were good to you, would you fall in love with her?”
Duan Bainian found it funny. “I’m only willing to accept it because it’s you being good to me. Why would I accept it from anyone else?”
Su Miao pressed further, “Why wouldn’t you accept it from others?”
“Because others aren’t you… Regardless of why I liked you initially, the point is I’ve already fallen for you. You fill my heart to the brim—where would I find the room to like someone else?”
Suddenly hearing such a confession, Su Miao became shy. “Do… do you really think that?”
Duan Bainian smiled. “Of course. Because… I’ve never met anyone more adorable than you.”
The “little adorable one” suddenly became happy. She picked up the milk and took a large gulp. “It’s delicious!”
Seeing the milk stain on the corner of Su Miao’s mouth, Duan Bainian couldn’t help but lean forward to lick it away before pulling back.
Su Miao froze for a second. Once she reacted, she started whimpering, “Kiss me, Duan Bainian.”
Duan Bainian smiled, pressed the back of Su Miao’s head, and kissed her tenderly.
When Guan Jing pushed open the door, what she saw was her own artist and the boss’s daughter locked in an inseparable kiss.
Guan Jing: “…!!!”
The two scrambled apart. Duan Bainian said awkwardly, “We were just practicing a scene. Su Miao said she doesn’t know how to do a kiss scene, so I was teaching her.”
Guan Jing was skeptical of her artist’s explanation. “Did Su Miao take on a new role recently?” She didn’t think so.
Su Miao lied with a red face, “My mom got a new script for me. I’ll be joining the crew soon.”
Duan Bainian followed up, “Did you need something?”
Guan Jing said conflictedly, “Nothing much. I just came in to ask what you want for dinner.”
Duan Bainian replied, “Go ahead and eat first. The two of us will go to the restaurant downstairs later.”
Guan Jing: “…Oh.”
As she turned the corner, Guan Jing couldn’t help but look back at the two of them. Are actors nowadays really this dedicated to practicing scenes??
After tidying up and playing on their phones for a while, the two went to the Chinese restaurant downstairs.
As soon as they entered, they saw some familiar faces.
Bai Yi and Yu Xue were sitting at a table waiting for their food. Judging by the silence and their cold expressions, the atmosphere between them was tense.
Duan Bainian originally wanted to go over and say hello, but remembering Su Miao’s jealousy, she decided against it and found a corner to sit in with Su Miao.
Even if she didn’t go over, she couldn’t stop the others from coming to her.
Just after they finished ordering, Duan Bainian noticed someone sitting down beside her out of the corner of her eye.
It was Bai Yi.
Duan Bainian subtly moved further inward. “Aren’t you eating with Yu Xue?”
Ignoring the fuming Su Miao across from her, Bai Yi smiled charmingly. “I want to eat with you. Is that okay?”
Duan Bainian quickly glanced at Su Miao and said, “We were planning to pack the food and take it back to the room. I’m afraid we can’t eat with you.”
Hearing this, Bai Yi’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. She glanced at Yu Xue and smiled, “Then I’ll head back upstairs with you guys in a bit.”
With things having been put that way, Duan Bainian had no way to refuse and agreed with a smile, “Alright.”
