I Love Her Because She’s Dim-Witted And Filthy Rich - Chapter 21
At the end of June, the Qing Dynasty time-travel drama officially finished filming.
After the wrap party, Duan Bainian and Su Miao returned to Beijing.
He Aizhi had lined up a “slow variety show” for Duan Bainian, with the first episode scheduled to begin filming in about half a month, leaving her with a few days of leisure.
Su Miao first dragged Duan Bainian along to wander through shopping malls for two days—from SKP to Financial Street to The Place—as if she wanted to make up for everything she had missed during those months in Hengdian. Duan Bainian felt as though she had done a lifetime’s worth of shopping in those two days.
Duan Bainian had always preferred a slow-paced life. After two consecutive days of wandering through malls, she felt more exhausted than she did while filming. If it hadn’t been for seeing Su Miao’s high spirits, wouldn’t it have been more comfortable to stay at home in the heat of summer and enjoy the air conditioning rather than walking around outside?
The house Duan Bainian was currently living in was one she had rented when she first debuted two years ago. Considering she had changed management companies, she decided to find a new place and rented a new apartment in the Chaoyang District.
During these days, Su Miao was very idle and stuck to Duan Bainian like a shadow.
When Duan Bainian looked at houses, she followed along; when Duan Bainian moved, she helped with the heavy lifting, bustling about quite earnestly.
After all this tossing and turning, only three or four days of the vacation remained. In a few days, Duan Bainian would head off to film the new variety show, and Su Miao would go to an acting class for further studies.
Thinking about how the entire holiday had been spent on moving into a new home, Su Miao was frustrated. “You said last month that you’d take me out to play when we had a break, but all the time was spent on moving. We didn’t get to go anywhere, and now you’re going to Sanya to film your show.”
Duan Bainian stopped what she was doing and turned to look at Su Miao. “Do you really want to go out and play that much?”
Su Miao replied, “Of course! You’ve been to so many places, and I’ve never been anywhere except Beijing.”
In truth, Duan Bainian hadn’t actually been to that many places; she simply traveled across the country because her work required it. Seeing Su Miao’s resentful expression now, she found it a bit amusing. Was a missed trip really worth such a reaction?
Duan Bainian took out her phone and searched Baidu for “Three-day trip itineraries starting from Beijing.”
After a moment, she asked, “The Bashang Grasslands—want to go? It’s about a six or seven-hour drive. It’s peak tourist season right now, and looking at the pictures, the scenery is quite nice.”
Actually, Su Miao didn’t strictly care about where they went; it was mainly that Duan Bainian had been so busy moving lately that she had neglected her. Therefore, she used the trip as an excuse.
Seeing that she had successfully captured Duan Bainian’s attention, Su Miao couldn’t help but grin foolishly. She took the phone from Duan Bainian. “Okay! Let’s go there!”
They went to the grasslands to try sand sliding and grass sliding, checked in at various scenic spots, ate roasted whole lamb, and joined the bustling bonfire party. After three days passed like this, the two returned home.
Back in Beijing, Duan Bainian immediately rushed off to Sanya without a moment’s rest.
The new variety show was titled Truth After Drinks. It was a “eat, drink, and chat” style program where guests would drink wine while conversing, with each episode featuring a different theme.
The first season had a total of 24 episodes, generally filming one episode per day. Considering the schedules of the various artists, the organizers arranged to film once a month, recording 4 to 6 episodes in one go.
Since it was a slow variety show involving eating, drinking, and having fun, Duan Bainian enjoyed it immensely. Ever since her debut, she had never taken on such a slow-paced job; it was simply too comfortable.
Looking at Su Miao, however, it was a different story. Because her acting skills still needed polishing, He Aizhi sent her precious daughter for further training. Su Miao left early and returned late every day, feeling as though she had returned to her high school days.
The fatigue wasn’t the main issue; more importantly, because she was used to clinging to Duan Bainian’s side, returning to a solitary life made Su Miao feel terribly lonely. She felt that nothing was interesting anymore.
Zoning out while thinking about Duan Bainian became a three-times-a-day occurrence.
Hearing Su Miao’s exaggerated description, Duan Bainian’s eyes crinkled with laughter. “Do you really miss me that much? Just wait a bit longer; I’m almost finished here and will be back in Beijing the day after tomorrow.”
Su Miao drooped her eyes and sighed. “Sigh, actually, I don’t particularly want to act. If I’m in the same crew as you, it’s fine, but if we aren’t, I won’t see you for months. I’ll be bored to death.”
The more Su Miao spoke, the more she felt like she didn’t want to act anymore. “Seriously, Duan Bainian, how about I stop acting? I’ll be your assistant instead! That way, I can play with you all the time!”
Duan Bainian felt a bit helpless. To put it bluntly, Su Miao still had the temperament of a child. She had started acting originally because she didn’t know what else to do, and since her family had the resources, she simply gave it a try.
Now, saying she didn’t want to act was merely because acting truly didn’t hold much of an attraction for her.
Duan Bainian knew in her heart that Su Miao liked playing with her; even if it was a waste of time, Su Miao wasted it happily. But while Su Miao was a “child,” Duan Bainian was not. She couldn’t bear to watch Su Miao waste her youth like this.
If it continued, she would feel a sense of guilt, as if she were the one wasting Su Miao’s time.
Duan Bainian rubbed her temples and smiled at Su Miao on the other side of the video call. “What nonsense are you talking about? Your mom spent a lot of money to enroll you in that class; study hard, do you hear me? I’m still waiting for you to become a superstar so you can help me out.”
Su Miao grumbled, “Waiting for me to get famous? That’ll probably happen in the next life. Sigh… Duan Bainian, how about I go on your variety show too? I just want to film a program with you.”
Duan Bainian thought Su Miao was just joking, but to her surprise, when the second round of filming began, Su Miao actually showed up.
What surprised Duan Bainian even more was that starting from this episode, a “CP” (Couple Pairing) named “NianSu” would suddenly emerge.
And this CP label would accompany her for a very, very long time.
