- Chapter 4 - The White Moonlight vs. The Humble Substitute
Shi Xingrao skimmed through Yu Chen’s profile in no time. Yu Chen’s basic ratings were identical to hers, and in the acting category, an S rating was prominently displayed.
It wasn’t until she reached Yu Chen’s relationship history that Shi Xingrao couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“No relationship history.” So, Yu Chen had come to this.
Shi Xingrao laughed so ostentatiously that even Cat Ears couldn’t stand it. “Host, but your relationship history is also ‘none’.”
The pot calling the kettle black.
Shi Xingrao: “Duoduo, a female celebrity needs to save face. Please spare me some dignity.”
Before going to bed, Shi Xingrao meticulously recalled every page of An Actor Prepares. Watching her flip through the book in her mind, Cat Ears marveled at Shi Xingrao’s superhuman memory while lamenting her astonishing lack of talent in acting.
It wasn’t that Cat Ears had never encountered hosts with poor acting skills before, but Shi Xingrao was the only one who was both terrible at it and utterly obsessed with performing.
Curling up in Shi Xingrao’s arms, Cat Ears asked, “Host, why are you so fixated on improving your acting? From what I know, you have money, looks, and intelligence. You could excel at anything you set your mind to.”
“Because I like it, what else? To prove that your host is someone with aspirations and dreams.”
After mumbling this response, Shi Xingrao’s consciousness faded completely, and she fell asleep.
Cat Ears wriggled out of her embrace, intending to use a bit of energy to pull the blanket over her.
Suddenly, its own consciousness was immobilized, and it lost all sensory perception.
By the time Cat Ears regained its senses, Shi Xingrao was already tucked in, and all it could detect was a faint trace of energy fluctuation in the room that didn’t belong to this world.
This was a situation it had never encountered before.
A sense of unease lingered in Cat Ears until the next morning. After pondering for a long time, it finally decided to tell Shi Xingrao about the previous night’s anomaly.
Without even realizing it, Cat Ears was subconsciously relying on Shi Xingrao.
While washing up, Shi Xingrao responded to Cat Ears, “Energy fluctuations not of this world? Noted.”
“Has this never happened with the people you’ve guided before?”
Shi Xingrao’s calm demeanor eased Cat Ears’ anxiety somewhat. “No, I’ve never experienced a system crash before.”
Shi Xingrao: “And other systems? Have they encountered it?”
Cat Ears: “I’ve never heard of it before. I’ll have to wait until we return to the Main God’s space to inquire about this.”
Shi Xingrao nodded. She wasn’t particularly surprised. If she could be inexplicably pulled into this fast-transmigration world, then surely more than just completing tasks awaited her.
However, she would need to find an opportunity to visit this Main God’s space.
Shi Xingrao: “What is your Main God like? Also data? Or something else? A real deity? Or a human?”
Cat Ears: “The Main God is, of course, data. But the energy fluctuations definitely weren’t left by the Main God. The Main God is the most noble and radiant data there is. She would never do something so sneaky.”
Shi Xingrao raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced by Cat Ears’ words.
She ruffled Cat Ears’ fur and teased, “How noble and radiant can a data cluster like you possibly be?”
“Of course the Main God is different from a light orb like me. Our Main God must be a peerless beauty, just like you a peerless beauty. Such a gentle deity is certainly nothing like me.”
When it was only the size of a grain of rice, it once strayed into the Main God’s office by mistake. Yet, the Main God not only didn’t scold it but even gave a bit of energy to it, which was starving at the time. However, its memory capacity was too small back then, and it couldn’t retain any memories of the Main God.
Hearing Cat Ear’s words, Shi Xingmiao couldn’t help but laugh. This sweet, naive one really knew how to talk.
The Main God probably quite liked this sweet, naive Cat Ear.
Shi Xingrao followed the sound of the music to find Lin Shuangran. When she finally located her, the morning sunlight was illuminating Lin Shuangran’s hair, making it appear almost translucent. Lin Shuangran’s arms were gracefully arched behind her back, her dance steps light and effortless. Every movement, synchronized with the music, seemed as soft as if she were boneless, each gesture striking directly at the heart an irresistible, soul-stirring allure.
It was a kind of beauty that defied description, where even the tips of her fingers exuded grace.
Shi Xingrao felt that Lin Shuangran’s body was a work of art in itself. The emotional depth and fluidity of her movements made it impossible not to lose oneself in her world, to follow her and experience the vitality of a dance.
Time flowed by like water, and when the piece ended, Shi Xingrao could only feel that the duration of a single dance was far too short.
Lin Shuangran concluded her movements and walked over to Shi Xingrao. “Rao rao, you’re awake?”
It was a very gentle greeting. Shi Xingrao responded absentmindedly with an “Mm,” but her gaze remained fixed on Lin Shuangran’s forehead. Her skin, smooth as fine jade, was dotted with fine beads of sweat. The edges of her dance attire were already damp, and it was only 7:30 when she came over.
Seeing how much Lin Shuangran had sweated from exertion, Shi Xingrao guessed that she must have started practicing before six in the morning.
Seemingly casual, Shi Xingrao remarked, “It seems you really love dancing, sis.”
Lin Shuangran smiled. “Yes, I truly do. I don’t even know what I would do if I couldn’t dance anymore.”
Thinking of the culprit in the original storyline, Shi Xingrao’s eyes darkened. She couldn’t even imagine how despairing Lin Shuangran in the original plot must have been upon realizing she could never dance again.
