- I Just Want to Spoil and Run Away with the Abused Female Lead [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 2 - The White Moonlight vs. The Humble Substitute
The system had never witnessed such a scene before. In the past, the hosts it guided always used the “Flawless White Lotus” card on the female lead to evoke the male lead’s pity and affection.
Even Cat Ears couldn’t figure out what Shi Xingrao was trying to achieve.
Lu Ze’s slap never landed. Gu Yi nearly bit through her lip in frustration, only to freeze in the next second.
Shi Xingrao tilted her head slightly, her straight bangs swaying with the movement, revealing a glimpse of her fair and smooth forehead. Her misty eyes, shimmering with unshed tears, made anyone who saw her feel a pang of heartache. Like a delicate white flower trembling in the wind, she covered her cheek with a pitiful expression, as if she had been deeply wronged.
Her appearance was so heart-wrenching that, were it not for the complete lack of any mark on her face, Gu Yi would have suspected Lu Ze had actually slapped her.
However, seeing the tender concern on Lu Ze’s face, Gu Yi’s gaze toward Shi Xingrao turned venomous.
Shi Xingrao had clearly grown cunning pretending to be pitiful just to soften her “Brother Ze’s” heart. Ugh, what a white lotus.
She had always despised white lotuses such lowly, shameless creatures.
Lu Ze wanted to comfort Shi Xingrao, but as soon as he reached out, she stepped back with tears streaming down her face. “Brother, I really didn’t mean it. Please don’t hit me anymore, okay?”
Lu Ze was utterly confused, yet he couldn’t help but feel the urge to soothe her when he looked at her face.
“How could I, ever bear to hit you?”
Before Lu Ze could finish his sentence, Shi Xingrao interrupted him again. “Brother, I know I have nothing no power like you, no wealth like you.”
“I know I don’t deserve to like Sister Lin.”
“But I just can’t help myself from liking Sister Lin.”
Lu Ze’s expression softened with sympathy at her first few words, but as he heard the last two sentences, his mind went blank with shock.
Was he the cuckold all along?
But the next second, he dismissed the thought. Shi Xingrao was surely using this clumsy method to grab his attention.
She was acting so much like a white lotus, who else could it be for if not him?
At the doorway, Lin Shuangran’s porcelain-like face flushed slightly pink after hearing Shi Xingrao’s complete words, though the colorful lighting in the room made it barely noticeable.
She had known that Lu Ze found a substitute someone weak and easy to bully. But only now did she realize just how fragile this substitute was. Like a little white rabbit, she seemed as if even a slightly raised voice could frighten her.
And now, Lu Ze wasn’t treating this girl well he was bullying her.
Lin Shuangran’s impression of Lu Ze plummeted.
Everyone in the private room had been stunned by Shi Xingrao’s words, especially after unexpectedly learning that Lu Ze’s substitute lover actually had feelings for his unattainable “white moonlight.”
The silence was finally broken when someone exclaimed, “Miss Lin is here!” Lu Ze turned around.
Shi Xingrao, as if noticing Lin Shuangran for the first time, looked at her as if seeing a ray of light. A single tear slid perfectly from the corner of her eye, capturing a beauty that was both pitiful and delicate.
Just as Shi Xingrao had anticipated, Lin Shuangran walked past Lu Ze and approached her instead. Taking Shi Xingrao’s hand, she guided her to sit down. “It’s alright now.”
Lin Shuangran’s scent was gentle and soothing a warm, comforting gardenia fragrance that seemed to radiate from her very being.
Lu Ze snapped back to reality instantly, glaring at Lin Shuangran. “What are you doing holding my wife’s hand?”
Just then, the three-minute “Saintly White Lotus” special effect wore off. Shi Xingrao couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
Who are you calling “wife”? How disgusting.
The only reason Lu Ze had brought Shi Xingrao out today was to call her “wife” in front of the female lead and treat her well—all to make Lin Shuangran jealous and regretful, to provoke her into competing for his attention.
The bastard just loved these petty dramas of women fighting over him.
“Sister, it’s not like that, I didn’t. If he calls me ‘wife’ one more time, I’d rather just die.”
Without the card’s enhancement, Shi Xingrao’s terrible acting was back in full force. Her supposedly delicate words came out dripping with sarcasm.
Cat Ears: “…”
Her acting was this awful, yet Shi Xingrao performed with such earnestness it really moved Cat Ears to tears.
But of course, the female lead Lin Shuangran wouldn’t let Shi Xingrao die. Her tone was gentle as she said, “Neither of you is married, President Lu. Be careful with your words.”
Lu Ze smirked. “Neither married? Lin Shuangran, are you saying that for my sake or for Rao rao’s? You’re just jealous that Raorao is with me now, aren’t you?”
“What is Sister jealous of? Jealous that my partner is such a good stand-in for a dog? Well, if Sister had a partner as dog-like as mine, every day would surely be. eventful.”
The lines were meant to sound pitiful, but Shi Xingrao’s tone was flat and unemotional.
The final effect was pure sarcasm.
Lin Shuangran looked down at Shi Xingrao, her eyes brimming with heartache. She couldn’t fathom how much mistreatment the girl had endured from Lu Ze to think he was even remotely acceptable.
With uncharacteristic clumsiness, Lin Shuangran tried to comfort her. “Don’t be afraid.”
Cat Ears: “!!!”
Truly the saintly female lead even Shi Xingrao’s atrocious acting worked on her.
Witnessing this unexpectedly harmonious scene, Lu Ze felt a flicker of doubt, but he quickly dismissed it. He didn’t know if Shi Xingrao was straight, but he knew Lin Shuangran was.
“We just had a little argument. This has nothing to do with you. You were the one who abandoned me and went abroad you lost any right to meddle in my affairs. The love I once had for you has turned into utter disgust. Lin Shuangran, you wronged me first.”
Shi Xingrao: “Sister, does Brother not have a phone? Why didn’t he call you? Or was he too poor to buy a plane ticket? How could he not go find you when you were abroad? Brother’s love is so superficial.”
“If I had a girlfriend as beautiful as you, Sister, I’d starve myself for a month even if it killed me just to save up for a plane ticket to see you.”
As she spoke, Shi Xingrao’s eyes rolled so hard they nearly disappeared. She despised people who only paid lip service to love. The moment someone went abroad, they became some untouchable “white moonlight” but no one was stopping him from chasing after her.
Did he have to pull this whole “white moonlight and substitute” nonsense?
Hearing the girl talk about starving herself, Lin Shuangran’s tone turned slightly exasperated, laced with a subtle, almost imperceptible fondness. “You mustn’t starve yourself like that. If you want to see me, I can come to you.”
Shi Xingrao had always considered herself cold-hearted and detached, but at these words, her eyes flickered. She complained to Cat Ears in an unnatural tone, “Why is she so kind? Treating me like this when we’ve just met? Isn’t she afraid I might sell her out?”
“What kind of saintly female lead is this? More like a little fool.”
A little fool!?
Cat Ears, who was caught off guard and force-fed a mouthful of PDA, sneered, “Heh.”
Who the hell would believe these two were meeting for the first time? They couldn’t be this lovey-dovey without having slept together at least a hundred times.
Having been repeatedly undermined by Shi Xingrao, Lu Ze’s earlier sympathy for her, sparked by the card, had completely evaporated.
“Shi Xingrao, do you think I’m giving you too much face?”
Nestled in Lin Shuangran’s arms, Shi Xingrao raised her eyes to look at Lu Ze, leisurely taunting him with a silent lip message: “What can you do about it? My sister won’t believe you.”
“Lin Shuangran, can’t you see Shi Xingrao is a green tea bitch?” Lu Ze fumed, desperate to expose her.
Shi Xingrao: “Duoduo, look, even this dog of a man knows what a green tea bitch is. His current impotent rage is just because he’s not the one being flirted with. All that ‘just a little sister’ and ‘nothing’s going on with my sister’, who’s he trying to fool? What decent person sleeps with their own sister?”
Cat Ears: “You’re right.”
Lin Shuangran’s gaze was icy. “President Lu, there’s no need to target Rao rao. She’s not that kind of person.”
Shi Xingrao grinned even wider, while Lu Ze’s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.
“That’s right, President Lu. Rao rao isn’t that kind of person. What do you think you’re doing, bullying her like this?”
A girl in the private room chimed in. Every word Shi Xingrao had used to shut down Gu Yi and Lu Ze had struck a chord with her. She didn’t care whether Shi Xingrao was acting or not this girl just clicked with her, and she wanted to back her up.
After this commotion, Lu Ze couldn’t say much more. If he kept pushing, he’d come off as petty. If word got out about today’s events, everyone would think he was narrow-minded. His company was at a critical stage of development, and he didn’t want any negative rumors spreading.
The rest of the gathering was much quieter. The girls in the room practically abandoned their boyfriends to crowd around Shi Xingrao, teasing her one after another.
“Rao rao, when are you going to teach us how to brew tea?”
“Rao rao, you’re so good at clapping back say something sassy to us!”
“Why isn’t Rao rao talking anymore? Why the cold little face? Do you dislike us because we have boyfriends? How about we dump those losers today?”
Shi Xingrao hadn’t expected things to turn out like this. She kept her pretty, delicate face expressionless, refusing to respond no matter how they teased her.
But her icy demeanor only made the older sisters adore her even more.
The boyfriends of these sisters watched the scene with bated breath, feeling for the first time just how threatening a little green tea bitch could be to their positions.
Even when Gu Yi tried her usual tomboy-tea act to talk to them, they couldn’t muster the energy to respond.
Gu Yi dug her nails into her palm, cursing each of them inwardly as idiots.
Cat Ears: “Sis, are you some kind of femme fatale?”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
Shi Xingrao wanted to find Lin Shuangran, but she had slipped out at some point, and Lu Ze was gone too.
Shi Xingrao was still a bit worried about Lin Shuangran. After all, she was so naive she bordered on foolish. If that idiot Lu Ze managed to trick her, it would be trouble.
Shi Xingrao excused herself to go to the bathroom and slipped away.
Unexpectedly, she didn’t find Lin Shuangran but instead ran straight into Lu Ze.
Finally catching Shi Xingrao alone, Lu Ze stubbed out his cigarette. He had replayed the day’s events in his head and felt unbearably frustrated even angrier than when Lin Shuangran had left him to go abroad.
“Ran into my hand? Shi Xingrao, I never realized before how skilled you are at twisting the truth.”
Shi Xingrao, anxious to find Lin Shuangran, casually brushed it off, “Yeah, yeah, you’re right.”
Instead of arguing or defending herself and without any of the usual manipulative tactics Shi Xingrao’s response caught Lu Ze completely off guard.
Lu Ze: “Does Lin Shuangran know how good you are at distorting the truth?”
Shi Xingrao shot him a sidelong glance, “Of course she does. Don’t you know how skilled your Gu Yi is at twisting the facts?”
“You know Gu Yi twists the truth, yet you still let her hurt Sister Lin all because you like Gu Yi.”
“As for why Sister Lin tolerates me, it’s not because she doesn’t see through it. It’s because she likes me too.”
“What do you mean? Are you saying you and Lin Shuangran are in love? Then what am I?” Lu Ze’s anger surged again.
Shi Xingrao looked at him disdainfully, “A joke. Everyone knows today that Young Master Lu is nothing but a laughingstock.”
After being humiliated repeatedly by Shi Xingrao, Lu Ze’s rage peaked. Shi Xingrao decisively drew ten cards.
Not wanting to drag things out with Lu Ze any longer, Shi Xingrao turned around and saw Lin Shuangran. Her expression froze slightly, and with a sinking feeling, she asked the system, “Duoduo, when did Lin Shuangran get here?”
Cat Ears covered its face, “Right when you admitted to twisting the truth.”
Shi Xingrao: “…”
I’m done for.
