- I Helped My Best Friend with Her Romance—and Fell for the Enemy’s Strategist
- Chapter 56 - But What If I Peek?
Lin Ruocheng peered through the glass to see Fu Yanxi sitting on the bed with her back turned, the white sheer curtains drawn shut.
Was she really not going to peek at all?
Such a model of integrity, and with a figure like hers, top-tier by any standard. How could Fu Yanxi resist the temptation to sneak a glance? Weren’t they girlfriends already? This felt almost too pure.
After her shower, Lin Ruocheng slipped into the white bathrobe provided by the hotel and tiptoed over. Wrapping her arms around Fu Yanxi’s waist, she nuzzled into her neck and planted a soft kiss. “Do I smell nice? Your sweet, fragrant girl is back.”
A warm breath brushed against Fu Yanxi’s neck, making her instinctively shrink back. She removed her earplugs, turned around, and pulled Lin Ruocheng into her embrace, settling the lighter, fragrant girl onto her lap. The scent, especially the one clinging to Lin Ruocheng, was something she adored.
“Mmm, you do smell lovely,” Fu Yanxi murmured, returning the gesture with a kiss on Lin Ruocheng’s cheek. The smooth, fair skin bore a faint blush, like a freshly ripened red apple. Mixed with the subtle fragrance of shower gel and a hint of ylang-ylang, the aroma was irresistibly alluring. Though it wasn’t her first time seeing Lin Ruocheng without makeup, this post-shower glow was entirely new.
Adorable, just like the soft, round little orange in her WeChat profile picture.
“Don’t tease, it tickles,” Fu Yanxi said gently.
“I’m done with my shower. Your turn.”
Lin Ruocheng glanced at the computer screen displaying Fu Yanxi’s proposal, entirely in English. Some of the technical terms were even challenging for her, despite having passed the CET-6 exam. Compared to Fu Yanxi, she still had a way to go.
But Lin Ruocheng was no slouch either, a workaholic in her own right. She’d brought her laptop along, too. Her 3D yuri otome game was nearly complete, pending only the voice-over. Slated for a mid-October release, it would need promotion and more. Her previous mobile games had already garnered positive feedback.
She aimed to address the Lin family’s shortcomings in game development. The Lins primarily focused on finance and construction, while the Fu family specialized solely in finance, industry titans and leaders, effortlessly profitable. The Lins lagged slightly behind, though the gap wasn’t too wide.
“Why didn’t you dry your hair after your shower? Aren’t you afraid of catching a chill?” Fu Yanxi opened a drawer, retrieved the hairdryer, and plugged it in. She tested the temperature and airflow on her own hand first before gently drying Lin Ruocheng’s hair, her fingers combing through each damp strand.
The act, though mundane, felt deeply intimate, something only those exceptionally close would do. Lin Ruocheng lifted her head from Fu Yanxi’s embrace, smiling. “That’s what having a girlfriend is for, right?”
Seated facing Fu Yanxi on her lap, Lin Ruocheng let her tend to her hair. Fu Yanxi had a preference for minimalist colors, typically black, white, and gray. Though some might call the style dated, on her, it exuded maturity. Paired with her naturally icy demeanor, she projected an aura of authority that kept strangers, and even acquaintances, at a distance.
Her favorite attire was button-up shirts, especially crisp white ones, always fastened to the top, reminiscent of a quintessential “good girl.” The look was restrained, revealing no hint of skin.
Fu Yanxi could only smile wryly. What else could she do?
Guess I’ll just have to indulge her.
After all the effort it took to win her over, it’s just helping her dry her hair.
Perfectly normal, it means she’s starting to rely on me.
This feeling is really nice.
“Alright, you should go take a shower now. I have work to do too.”
Lin Ruocheng smiled as she pulled herself out of her embrace.
Her hair was already dry, especially after she faintly heard the well-known voice actress swallow.
If she didn’t get up now, she might really not be able to later.
“Mm.”
Fu Yanxi tidied up the hairdryer and placed it back in its original spot in the drawer, her movements meticulous.
It reminded Lin Ruocheng of a saying:
Elegance never goes out of style. She’d almost forgotten that her dear wife was also a renowned voice actress at Bai Guang.
Lin Ruocheng kept watching her with a grin, which actually made Fu Yanxi a little nervous.
“Xiao Chengzi, you weren’t peeking at me just now, were you?”
“No.”
Her voice was cool and restrained, no wonder she was considered the most authoritative voice at Bai Guang.
Even her natural voice was this captivating. It seemed Lin Ruocheng had truly struck gold.
“But if you’re taking a shower, I might sneak a peek. What should we do about that?”
Voice actress Xi Liu was actually quite mysterious, there were no photos of her online, only her authoritative voice.
But ever since her first offline appearance, when a few photos surfaced, even though her full face wasn’t shown, only her eyes were visible, the rest covered by a mask, her number of devoted fans seemed to skyrocket.
Most discussions centered on her figure and her aura.
Some keen-eyed fans even noticed the watch Fu Yanxi wore that day, a Piaget Exceptional Piece, crafted from 18K white gold and set with 420 trapezoid-cut diamonds, with a starting price of over ten million. It was genuine, and fans at the event that day had taken photos.
She was very low-key and never spoke about her family background.
“If you want to look, then look openly.”
Surprisingly, Fu Yanxi was quite generous. Those photos never made it to the trending searches.
Xi Liu’s fans were very respectful.
At most, they kept the photos in their personal collections.
From her humble beginnings voicing her first audio drama to becoming the most sought-after voice in all of Lancheng, her journey hadn’t been easy.
She never relied on any support from her family, succeeding entirely on the strength of her voice.
Lin Ruocheng was just teasing.
If she really looked, they probably wouldn’t be getting any sleep tonight.
…
“Um… maybe you should go first?”
“No, no, you go ahead.”
Yu Qiuli and Song Wanqing were still hesitating, literally pulling at each other.
After all, not everyone could comfortably shower in a fully transparent bathroom, especially in front of their partner.
It was just too embarrassing.
So, the two of them still hadn’t decided who should go first.
“How about this: rock-paper-scissors. The winner showers first.”
“Deal.”
Yu Qiuli won. Song Wanqing found a wall, faced it, closed her eyes, and plugged her ears.
That way, she could ensure she wouldn’t see or hear anything.
Adults always said that peeking at someone showering was impolite.
Besides, her family was strictly from the south, they would never accept such behavior.
Even if it was her girlfriend, it wasn’t allowed.
Lin Ruocheng once said that mutual respect was the foundation of a relationship.
Wasn’t this respectful enough?
Lin Ruocheng: “…”
Not long after, Yu Qiuli finished washing and poked the other person’s back.
“Your turn to wash.”
“Alright.”
Now it was Yu Qiuli’s turn to face the wall.
Same place, same posture, different person.
