- I Helped My Best Friend with Her Romance—and Fell for the Enemy’s Strategist
- Chapter 26 - Dreamt of You
“You’re back? How did it go?”
“Is that even a question? When Chengzi steps in, she’s worth two people!”
The remaining two roommates chattered away, both of their partners had been matched by Lin Ruocheng.
Though both of them were straight.
But it’s the 21st century, who cares who you date?
As long as you like them, that’s all that matters.
Why overthink it?
Even knowing how capable Lin Ruocheng was, the issue was that the person needing help was Song Wanqing.
Song Wanqing was the most notorious “socially awkward bot” in their dorm.
Why say that?
Because that’s just how she was, sometimes her responses made no sense at all.
She’d say whatever came to mind.
When she saw someone crying, a normal person would go comfort them.
But though she’d be anxious, she could only manage to squeeze out:
“Don’t cry.”
And that was it.
Everyone knew she meant well, and that this was the best comfort Song Wanqing could muster.
But faced with such a response,
it was hard not to feel a little speechless.
“I already know the other person likes Wanqing too. They’re mutually attracted, but their relationship is a complete mess. Anyway, she’s my good friend, of course I have to try my best to help! It’s also a chance to gain some experience. And, let me tell you, I’m in a relationship now.”
“What? No way! With who?”
“Weren’t you helping Song Wanqing with her love life? When did you get into one yourself?”
Lin Ruocheng’s words were like dropping a bomb in the room. Everyone knew she was attractive and had a great figure, so it wouldn’t be strange for her to be dating someone, but… who was it? Who managed to win over the most unattainable beauty in their dorm? They, as her “family,” needed to check this person out properly!
“Actually, it’s not really a relationship, more like a fake one. What else could I do? The ‘bot’ doesn’t know how to date, and teaching her is hopeless. I had to find someone to fake a relationship with her, to show both ‘bots’ how dating should be done. You probably know her, it’s Fu Yanxi.”
“Ah? Fu Yanxi? Well, that’s fine then.”
Those two standing together would indeed be a sight for sore eyes.
Moreover, they were actually quite compatible.
Not bad at all.
If it’s Fu Yanxi, then whatever.
She is indeed outstanding, though her reputation isn’t the best.
But since it’s just a fake relationship, with no real sparks of romance, it’s actually acceptable.
On the other side,
Fu Yanxi had just finished showering and was leaning against the bathroom doorframe in a long silk pajama set.
Lazy and casual, her long legs crossed.
She looked at Yu Qiuli, who was washing her face inside, with a faint, teasing smile.
Yu Qiuli had just rinsed the foam off her face when she looked up and saw Fu Yanxi in the mirror.
She swallowed hard.
“What are you standing there for? You scared me.”
“Aren’t you going to explain? About me and Lin Ruocheng?”
Fu Yanxi knew Yu Qiuli all too well.
She naturally knew that this person had been aware for a long time that she had secretly had a crush on Lin Ruocheng for a full seven years.
But for some reason, it seemed like Yu Qiuli was the only friend who knew this secret. Even girls who were clueless about dating would gradually learn about holding hands, hugging, kissing, and such. Fu Yanxi had actually figured it out much earlier.
“How would I know anything about you two?”
Yu Qiuli felt a bit guilty and raised her hand to touch the tip of her nose.
It was her telltale sign of lying.
“Yu Qiuli, do you need me to spell it all out? You and Song Wanqing got together on December 10th last year, right? That day, you were holding a huge bouquet of red roses, and you explained to me that they were from a suitor, correct? Care to explain now?”
“Are you some kind of hacker, or did you plant a camera on me? How do you know everything? But you should’ve realized by now that I mean no harm. How many years have we been close friends? As for Song Wanqing, I just wanted to give the two of you a chance to meet.”
Yu Qiuli had thrown caution to the wind, deciding to come clean.
She hadn’t expected her to have seen through it all along, such sharp observation and insight.
It’s a shame she didn’t become a detective.
She knew that Fu Yanxi had been secretly in love with that person for years.
If it was a secret crush, why not turn it into an open pursuit instead of just giving a chance?
Besides, the other person was already into women, what if it worked out?
Right?
Even if it didn’t, they could still be friends.
A chance to meet?
She and Lin Ruocheng should have been old acquaintances by now, except it was only Fu Yanxi who knew of her reputation.
She knew all her preferences, all her habits.
As someone with a secret crush, she certainly qualified.
So far, Yu Qiuli was the only one who knew, not even her own mother was aware.
But… she didn’t dare say it.
All these years, because of her mother, she hadn’t dared to speak up.
She didn’t dare say she liked girls, didn’t dare say the one she liked was Lin Ruocheng.
Her mother detested Lin Ruocheng, to be precise, she loathed the Lin family.
Including their company and Lin Ruocheng’s two mothers.
Due to her mother’s indoctrination, she hadn’t liked Lin Ruocheng at first either.
But after gradually getting to know her, she realized that Lin Ruocheng was actually a very likable girl.
Beautiful, academically outstanding.
Eloquent, radiant like the sun.
She wasn’t sure when she started liking her, but ever since attending private elementary school, she’d often heard Lin Ruocheng’s name from the neighboring public school.
Later, she deliberately controlled her exam scores to get into the same middle school as Lin Ruocheng.
Though they weren’t in the same class, the moment she saw Lin Ruocheng, she knew, of course.
How could a girl like that not be adored?
Completely different from herself.
Her own home was shabby and broken, she never even wanted to go back.
While Lin Ruocheng missed home dearly.
Since childhood, many people surrounded her.
She was just the most inconspicuous one among them.
“Well, let’s sleep for now. I’m tired.”
Fu Yanxi planned to go home this weekend to test her mother’s reaction.
The outcome might not be good, but she would try her best.
…
The next day…
Fu Yanxi woke up promptly at 7 a.m., as was her habit.
Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, a rule her mother had instilled in her since childhood.
After a quick wash, she picked up her phone and repeatedly refreshed her chat history with Lin Ruocheng.
It seemed she hadn’t sent any messages.
She was probably still asleep at this hour.
[Lin Ruocheng]: I dreamed about you last night. A stunning beauty wanted to treat me to dinner, tonight, in fact. Should I go or not?
[Fu Yanxi]: What do you feel like eating? It’s on me.
[Lin Ruocheng]: I get to choose? What if I want to eat you, Xiao Xixi? I’ve been craving you for more than a day or two. Can I have you? Should I lightly sauté or stir-fry you? My girlfriend? (Drooling)
Fu Yanxi looked at the emoji and message sent by the other person, a faint blush clearly spreading across her face.
But the thought that she might have said the same thing to others made her expression instantly turn serious.
