- I Helped My Best Friend with Her Romance—and Fell for the Enemy’s Strategist
- Chapter 20 - Simulated Romance
The four of them arrived at the cafeteria. At this hour, there weren’t many people around.
C University had three cafeterias, all of which offered decent food at affordable prices. Most importantly, the taste was quite good.
Quite a few students had come to eat.
“What would you like to eat?”
Fu Yanxi took out her meal card, planning to treat Lin Ruocheng.
Lin Ruocheng didn’t have any particular cravings.
She casually found a seat and sat down.
“Anything is fine. Didn’t you say you were treating?”
She had treated the other person to fruit tea, even though it was bought with Song Wanqing’s money.
But wasn’t she helping Song Wanqing learn how to date, after all?
Spending a little money here and there was only natural.
If Song Wanqing still couldn’t figure out how to date, she might as well step in and show her how it’s done.
“Alright, wait for me.”
Fu Yanxi left, leaving Lin Ruocheng sitting alone at the table for four.
Yu Qiuli and Song Wanqing went to the food counters to buy dinner.
“How do you think I’m doing with the act?”
“Not bad, but you almost slipped up earlier. What if they had noticed?”
Yu Qiuli was still a bit shaken, her heart pounding in her throat.
Especially since Song Wanqing had been chatting so naturally with her earlier.
She had almost given herself away to Lin Ruocheng.
“Huh? With their intelligence, they probably wouldn’t notice, right? Even though they’re smart, when it comes to emotions, they’re probably clueless. Besides, didn’t you say Fu Yanxi has had a crush on Chengzi for a while? Why not give them more chances to get to know each other? I think Chengzi would probably fall for Fu Yanxi’s type.”
“Let’s keep trying.”
In reality, the two of them had already been dating for some time.
It’s just that Fu Yanxi and Lin Ruocheng had no idea.
Yu Qiuli had known for a long time that her best friend, Fu Yanxi, had been secretly in love with Lin Ruocheng for years. She even had a thick notebook filled with notes about her.
When she found out that Lin Ruocheng was Song Wanqing’s best friend, she decided to help her friend seize the opportunity.
There was no other way but to pretend with her girlfriend that they were in a simulated relationship, letting the other two act as their “love coaches.”
Over time, if feelings developed, they would work harder to create more opportunities.
But if Lin Ruocheng really didn’t like Fu Yanxi, then they would let it go.
Lin Ruocheng sat at the table, using the alcohol wipes she always carried to clean the surface.
It looked much cleaner that way.
Seeing that the other three hadn’t returned yet,
Lin Ruocheng opened Baidu and searched for Fu Yanxi’s profile.
Her phone responded quickly.
She opened the top result, which was a personal introduction.
Scrolling down, she saw a rich list of experiences, each one impressive on its own.
But they were all just minor highlights in her overall journey.
Her family background was simple, with only her mother listed in the relatives section.
Her resume, however, was extensive.
Below were a few photos of Fu Yanxi from her childhood, including award-winning moments.
She looked no different from now, just a well-behaved girl with a ponytail.
In one photo, she was holding a trophy, her little face looking quite serious.
The chibi-style Fu Yanxi looked incredibly cute.
She felt like she could just kiss her to death.
But it seemed there were no photos from her middle school years. What did she look like back then?
Anyway, Lin Ruocheng didn’t seem to have many memories of her from that time.
“What are you looking at? I didn’t know what you liked, so I just ordered something random.”
Fu Yanxi suddenly appeared, placing a bowl of rice noodles, Lin Ruocheng’s favorite, in front of her.
She had ordered a chicken cutlet rice for herself.
Then she sat down opposite Lin Ruocheng, who quickly placed her phone face down on the table.
Did Fu Yanxi see her searching about her online?
This feels so awkward.
Lin Ruocheng glanced at her meal.
It seemed to be her favorite bowl of rice noodles, the one she had loved since childhood.
But as far as she knew, only Song Wanqing was aware of her preferences.
And Song Wanqing was her only close friend.
Looks like she wasn’t the only one doing her homework, Song Wanqing had done hers, too.
She really put in the effort for her best friend’s love life.
If Song Wanqing and Yu Qiuli still couldn’t make it work, it would truly be a waste of both their efforts.
“How did you know I like this?”
“We were middle school classmates.”
Fu Yanxi spoke softly, raising a hand to adjust her glasses.
Those hands were slender and fair, with blue veins clearly visible on the back.
So delicate and long, no wonder they had won first prize in a piano competition.
They truly were works of art.
Especially the way she adjusted her glasses, in front of her, a lesbian, it felt a bit… suggestive.
Middle school classmates?
She remembered after all this time?
What was she trying to do? What if she didn’t like it anymore?
They were just middle school classmates, not even in the same class.
Recalling everyone she had met in middle school, she didn’t remember ever encountering someone like Fu Yanxi.
“Oh, thank you.”
Lin Ruocheng didn’t know what else to say. What could she say?
That the other side’s strategist had been keeping track of what she liked to eat? Something felt off.
Was she trying to use her as a stepping stone to help Yu Qiuli pursue her crush?
But when it came to romance, the two involved had to do the talking themselves.
Their strategists couldn’t step in and date on their behalf.
“It’s fine, no need to thank me.”
Lin Ruocheng: “…”
Why did it suddenly feel like she and Fu Yanxi had turned into robots?
Just then, Song Wanqing and Yu Qiuli walked over and sat down next to their respective best friends.
“Um… hi.”
“Hi…”
The two robots had started up again, exuding a faint sense of lifelessness.
“What are you doing? It’s not like it’s your first time meeting. Say something! Can’t you be a little more intimate?”
Song Wanqing’s robotic vibe left her at a complete loss.
Hearing the other side’s words, she seemed to catch on.
“Um… what are you eating?”
“Food.”
Yu Qiuli lowered her head, blushing.
Lin Ruocheng felt like she was about to need an ambulance. Even if she and Fu Yanxi seemed like robots, they were still miles better than these two.
“Oh my god! Are you stupid? Can’t you act normal for once?”
Lin Ruocheng couldn’t take it anymore.
She tugged on Song Wanqing’s sleeve and whispered in her ear.
After playing matchmaker for so many people, she had come to realize that Song Wanqing was by far the most challenging case.
Would these two still have zero progress even after she herself got into a relationship?
So frustrating.
“Huh? If we don’t talk about this, then what should we talk about?”
Song Wanqing played dumb.
Lin Ruocheng was about to lose it. Why was it so hard to get through to these robots?
Why was their romance so difficult?
When would they finally get together?
This was agonizing, truly agonizing.
As someone with a bit of a fiery temper, she couldn’t stand it.
Without a second thought, she boldly grabbed Fu Yanxi’s hand.
“Are you in a relationship?”
Fu Yanxi was taken aback. “No.”
“Alright then, let’s simulate a romantic relationship to show these two AIs.”
“Can you two also observe how normal people should date? Please, I’m begging you both, ladies!”
