I Heard You Only See Me as a Friend - Chapter 11
Ji Wan curled the corners of his lips, clicked “Accept,” and added Feng Jin as a friend.
Expecting Feng Jin to take the initiative and greet him seemed unrealistic. After a moment’s thought, Ji Wan proactively sent a message.
Think It Over: [Who is this? Is something the matter?]
After a single question mark, there was a brief pause from Feng Jin’s side, followed immediately by a sudden eruption of messages.
[You dare to add me without knowing who I am?] . : [You pass everyone who tries to add you?]. : [Do you have zero sense of self-protection?] . : [I am your father.]
Feng Jin was clearly triggered. Seeing that the “typing…” indicator at the top of the chat was still active, Ji Wan hurried to pacify him.
Think It Over: [Your profile picture and naming style reminded me of a friend, so I added you.] Think It Over: [Is that you, Feng Jin?]
Ji Wan expected Feng Jin to respond with a cold and ruthless “[Who is your friend?]”, but the “typing…” box persisted for a long time. Finally, only one word was sent back.
[Mhm.]
Feng Jin was silent for a while before sending another message: [I’m going to the hospital for an exam tomorrow. I’ll take a picture of the results and send them to you once they’re out.]
Ji Wan replied with an “Okay” and waited peacefully for the next day.
He assumed that after a series of tests, Feng Jin wouldn’t be able to message him until noon at the earliest. However, at nine o’clock in the morning, he received a text from Feng Jin.
[The doctor says the decision needs to be made based on your constitution. Can you come over for a bit?]
Ji Wan naturally had no issue with this. He changed his clothes and opened his bedroom door noiselessly, fortunately finding that no one else was home, they had likely gone out to play.
Ji Wan headed to the hospital where Feng Jin was located. He had come here before to check his heart and gland development, so he was quite familiar with the way.
Feng Jin was waiting for him at the entrance. Upon seeing him arrive, Feng Jin wasted no words and led him straight inside.
The doctor in the white coat sat inside. Hearing the noise, he looked up, and after seeing Ji Wan’s face clearly, he said in surprise: “It’s you again, little classmate! I was wondering why so many Pure Betas were suddenly appearing.”
Ji Wan also recognized him; this was the same doctor who had examined him last time. He smiled at the doctor and sat in the chair for the examination.
The doctor drew blood and checked pheromone levels, busying himself with various tasks while Ji Wan and Feng Jin sat on the chairs outside, waiting.
A mother carrying a crying little boy passed by. The boy’s face was smeared with tears and snot as he wailed: “I don’t want a shot! I don’t want a shot!”
The boy’s crying miraculously lessened when he saw them. His mother also glanced over, her gaze sweeping over Ji Wan and Feng Jin. She immediately coaxed her child: “If you don’t behave and take your shots and medicine, you won’t become a powerful person when you grow up, and you won’t be able to find such a handsome boyfriend like that big brother did!”
“Really?” The boy stopped crying entirely. He wiped his tears and hugged his mother’s neck. “Then Mama, let’s go faster!”
Ji Wan: “…” Feng Jin: “…”
As the mother and son walked away, the scene fell into silence again.
Ji Wan still remembered Feng Jin’s previous statement about staying single for a lifetime. Furthermore, although countless people liked Feng Jin, he had never given anyone a chance and didn’t allow rumors about himself to spread. Thus, Ji Wan guessed that Feng Jin disliked hearing people suggest they were in an intimate relationship.
So Ji Wan asked tentatively: “Should I sit further away from you? That way, others won’t misunderstand.”
Feng Jin’s brow was knitted. He looked at the chairs that were quite far apart and finally crossed his arms impatiently: “I called you out for an exam; why are you running so far away? A straight person doesn’t fear a crooked shadow. Does sitting closer to me suddenly make you my boyfriend?”
Since Feng Jin himself didn’t care, Ji Wan naturally wouldn’t waste time changing seats. He casually comforted him: “You’re right. Our pure bond of ‘comrades-in-arms’ will definitely not deteriorate into love. Don’t worry.”
Feng Jin: “…”
Feng Jin didn’t speak again. The doctor returned with two slips of paper. After another series of checks, the final results were finally out.
The doctor looked at Feng Jin with a serious face: “The results are in. He can completely digest your pheromones without being affected, and his constitution can accommodate a large amount of pheromones while decomposing them quickly. As for you, the excess pheromones in your body have been piled up too long; they need to be cleared out as soon as possible.”
The doctor pushed up his glasses and looked at the two of them: “I suggest once every two to three days. Of course, if you are willing, once a day is better. However, if the biting is too frequent, the bite marks on the recipient’s gland might recover slower and slower, eventually leaving a lasting tooth mark. But it’s no big deal; as long as you stop for a while, it will heal completely.”
“Once a day is not necessary,” Feng Jin rejected the latter suggestion. “Is there anything else to keep in mind, Doctor?”
“There are other ways to inject pheromones; you two can look into them when you get back.” The doctor handed each of them a small booklet, and thus concluded the examination.
What is this?
As Ji Wan walked out, he opened the booklet to browse. What immediately caught his eye were two chibi figures kissing.
Ji Wan: “…?”
Ji Wan looked closer and saw the text above: [In addition to biting the gland to inject pheromones, they can also be injected through kissing (see Figure 2) or through mating.]
Figure 2 was an analysis of kissing, clearly illustrating that only a deep kiss could achieve the effect; otherwise, it would be impossible to induce the stagnant pheromones hidden deep in the body.
Ji Wan: “???”
Walking beside Ji Wan, Feng Jin was also looking at the content in the booklet, his lips pressed into a straight line.
Kissing?
What a preposterous method.
As Feng Jin thought this, his dark eyes shifted slightly from the kissing chibi figures to Ji Wan walking beside him.
Ji Wan’s features were beautiful. His lips looked neither thin nor thick, with no lines or dry skin looking quite soft. The lip color was slightly red, yet it didn’t look flashy or gaudy, appearing somewhat pale instead.
They seemed very “kissable.”
He didn’t know what Ji Wan had seen, but Ji Wan lightly bit his own lip, creating a small indentation. Perhaps sensing the gaze, Ji Wan tilted his head slightly toward him.
As if startled, Feng Jin quickly withdrew his gaze. The booklet didn’t have much content only a few thin pages. Feng Jin finished browsing rapidly and threw the booklet into a nearby trash can.
“You’re finished?” Ji Wan was surprised. “That was fast.”
“What’s so interesting about that kind of thing?” Feng Jin’s brow was still furrowed. “We have absolutely no use for those other two methods. Knowing how to bite the gland is enough.”
Ji Wan agreed. He closed the booklet and put it in his pocket without looking further. When they reached the hospital entrance, Ji Wan stopped and calmly said goodbye to Feng Jin.
Feng Jin asked: “Where are you going? Home?”
Ji Wan: “I’m going to the library to read. See you in a few days.”
Ji Wan turned to leave, but before he could take two steps, footsteps sounded behind him. Feng Jin followed.
Feng Jin’s expression was somewhat pained and solemn. Ji Wan thought about it and understood.
He was Feng Jin’s academic rival. As an Alpha with a very strong competitive spirit, it seemed Feng Jin absolutely didn’t want him to study alone in secret.
What a ruthless man.
When they arrived at the library, Feng Jin watched Ji Wan pick out a book, so he picked one too and sat down across from him.
Ji Wan read intently, but while Feng Jin opened his book, he stared at the very top line of text without anything entering his brain.
He didn’t even know why he was forgoing so many recreational activities to follow Ji Wan to the library to study. Usually, during holidays, he would never sit still to read; he would play to his heart’s content.
His phone vibrated. Feng Jin pulled it out and saw his childhood friends tagging him in a group chat.
[@Feng Jin, Brother Feng, want to play ball? I’ve already claimed a court, a new one, it’s great!] [The guys from the sports school who lost to us last time aren’t convinced. They want a rematch. Coming? Coming? Coming?] [Sigh, what ball? Want to come play some games?]
Feng Jin scanned the messages and gave a unified reply: [Library. Studying. Not going.]
A series of question marks followed as his friends were shocked.
[Feng Jin, what’s wrong with you? Have you been possessed?] [Monster, get out of my brother’s body!]
Feng Jin ignored the chaos in the group, turned off his phone, and looked at the book again.
Once the environment became quiet, the content of the booklet he had seen earlier began to swirl in his mind like a revolving lantern.
He had always believed such intimate acts were far removed from him; as long as he didn’t seek a partner, they couldn’t possibly happen. Yet in reality, it seemed they weren’t so far away after all.
Feng Jin’s gaze crossed over the book, secretly observing Ji Wan sitting opposite him.
Ji Wan was very immersed in his reading. Sunlight streamed through the window, hitting a small patch of his ear and neck, making the flawless skin look transparent.
What would happen if he and Ji Wan were forced to use methods other than biting the gland?
Feng Jin couldn’t imagine himself engaging in such intimacy; similarly, he couldn’t imagine Ji Wan facing such intimacy.
Ji Wan was always clean and tidy, with no other scent on his body. At a time like that, would he be covered in pheromones? And how long would those pheromones last?
Feng Jin licked his teeth, suppressing that uncalled-for curiosity.
