I Heard That I am a HeartBreaker - Chapter 91
What is love? Qiu Shuang had been constantly pondering the definition of love.
Once, she had been frantically obsessed with Chen Wanjun. Was that pure love? No. Qiu Shuang simply liked the other girl’s fragile appearance—that young girl who would crouch miserably in the hallway on rainy nights.
What did it resemble? It was like a pitiful stray cat waiting for your comfort; even if your embrace was met with sharp claws, it didn’t matter. Humans must always have a bit of indulgence for their pets.
Qiu Shuang didn’t know how to describe that strange sensation, but it seemed her smiles had grown more frequent. When she thought of the other girl, she felt a sweetness, like secretly tucking a piece of candy under her tongue in the summer and tasting that peculiar lime flavor.
Although this first journey into love was disastrous and left Qiu Shuang with no good impressions, it at least provided a small starting point: Qiu Shuang began to try and be willing to make friends with people.
But in reality, the world seemed to deal her a heavy blow. The friends who inexplicably appeared around her turned out to be, without exception, her suitors.
The thing Qiu Shuang hated most in this life was being toyed with. She would absolutely never allow anyone to deceive or play games with her.
Pay a price? Qiu Shuang did not view herself as some tragic protagonist in an “abuse” novel; she would take revenge on everyone.
“Junior, thank you for your past affection.”
Xin Zhu looked at Qiu Shuang, who was wearing a radiant smile on the bed, and smiled back. She was very happy. Indeed, Xin Zhu had found one of her own kind and had released the demon within.
Or perhaps she wasn’t the key, but merely a witness.
“Senior, I wish you a happy relationship…”
When Lu Chen arrived in B City and looked into the other party’s location, her brow furrowed deeply.
She checked the GPS position on her watch; it showed she was right here, but Qiu Shuang was nowhere to be found.
Lu Chen clenched her fists. The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind—she had thought herself too clever. Someone else was a step ahead and had utilized her linear thinking to take Qiu Shuang away.
Meanwhile, an inconspicuous person had failed to enter everyone’s field of vision. Regarding Xin Zhu’s few days of leave, Qi Sijiao hadn’t taken it to heart, nor had she connected the dots.
After all, in her eyes, the other girl was a blatant loser who had only managed to become ordinary friends with Qiu Shuang.
Despite the other girl being shameless and lowly, and coming to find Qiu Shuang with great sincerity every day, Qi Sijiao had never once taken her seriously.
When Lu Chen re-established contact and inquired, Qi Sijiao thought for a moment before reporting the name “Xin Zhu.”
“But I don’t think this has anything to do with her. To be honest, Xin Zhu is just an ordinary person; she couldn’t possibly achieve this.”
Gu Lingxi looked at Qi Sijiao and smiled. Sometimes, wealth and power aren’t such wonderful things—at least, these things nourish a person’s greed. Thus, obvious evidence was completely hidden beneath the surface and utterly covered up.
“Hmph, regardless of what kind of person she is, the fact that she disappeared so strangely is something you should have told us from the very beginning.”
Chen Wanjun’s expression was grim. Perhaps she was biased, believing the whole world to be composed of bastards just like her. She began to wonder what Qiu Shuang had endured during these days of disappearance.
Chen Jining, naturally, did not look pleased either. She had returned only to find the place empty. Hearing the others say Qiu Shuang had gone out to clear her head, she frowned—especially when looking at Qi Sijiao, whose expression her intuition told her was hiding something.
“Regardless, the priority is to find Qiu Shuang. To be honest, you all aren’t being truthful with each other, and you each have your own secrets. As long as we are huddled together like this, we will never find her because we are never pulling in the same direction. If you ask me, all of you are just a bunch of ridiculous clowns.”
It wasn’t that Chen Jining hadn’t considered that new suitors would appear around Shuangshuang after she left, but she had always been at ease.
At least in Chen Jining’s impression, Shuangshuang had a high school classmate who was very sensible and rational, and a best friend who protected her at every turn.
However, while she might be an expert in psychology, Chen Jining never would have imagined that sometimes the greatest danger comes from one’s closest friends.
Regarding these so-called suitors of Qiu Shuang, Chen Wanjun didn’t intend to attack or discriminate against any specific person; she simply, earnestly felt that none of them were any good.
Every one of them harbored malicious intent, and according to her observation, they all had some degree of psychological issues. She didn’t understand if the pressure of living domestically was too great these past few years, or if being a lesbian carried some kind of terrible debuff.
All in all, if she had to pick a “normal” person from the group in front of her, Lu Chen might count as half of one, but upon closer inspection, she wasn’t particularly healthy either.
“You all keep saying you like Shuangshuang, but in my eyes, you don’t seem to like her that much. One after another, you treat her like a trophy. Up until now, has anyone truly been worried for her?”
Lu Chen fell into silence. Every single person had been a catalyst in reaching this point. She had been “smart” with her tracking, letting herself believe in it; Qi Sijiao had been arrogant, looking down on others; Gu Lingxi had been “clever” in covering up clues; Chen Wanjun and Song Ya had been in cahoots.
They were the true source of all evil.
However, before they could find Xin Zhu, Xin Zhu arrived at their doorstep voluntarily, and behind her followed a familiar figure.
Qi Sijiao watched the intimate movements between the two and was utterly shocked.
Everything connected into a single line in her mind. So that was why they disappeared together. Qi Sijiao had originally thought Xin Zhu had done something bad, but looking at it now, it was that the other girl’s shamelessness had won her over.
And in this period of time, had Qiu Shuang and that girl actually become a couple?
Qiu Shuang didn’t care whether her being with Xin Zhu would break these people’s hearts; for now, agreeing to be with her was the best outcome.
At least the other girl could assist her in completing her upcoming plans. As for how to play these wolves against each other, that was for Qiu Shuang’s own consideration.
“What are you all doing sitting here together?”
On the inevitable path back to the dormitory, a large group of various types of beauties sitting together was quite eye-catching, not to mention that several of them were prominent figures on campus.
“Shuangshuang, where have you been lately? We were all very worried about you.”
Chen Wanjun took the initiative, looking at the other girl while scanning Xin Zhu with a provocative gaze. This woman wasn’t as deep in her history with Shuangshuang, and her looks could only be described as average—what right did she have to compete?
Qiu Shuang acted as if she hadn’t even seen Chen Wanjun, completely ignoring her question, and simply announced a fact.
“As you can see, I am with Junior Xin Zhu now. She is very sincere toward me, and I think she is quite good.”
Lu Chen’s pupils contracted as she looked at her. She stared intently at Qiu Shuang, but at this moment, she saw none of the past trust in the other girl’s eyes.
Something must have gone wrong in the middle. Lu Chen looked at Xin Zhu, only to find the girl looking back at her provocatively as she took Qiu Shuang’s hand.
“That’s right. Senior is with me now. I hope certain people can have some self-awareness and refrain from doing things that violate public morality.”
Qi Sijiao rolled her eyes. These words were clearly directed at her. Xin Zhu had investigated these people; all of them had some semblance of a bottom line, except for this shameless Qi Sijiao—a once-in-a-century lowlife.
The other girl didn’t care about things like being a “third party,” a mistress, or one-night stands. Regardless of whether the Senior had a partner or not, she would definitely pounce shamelessly.
This crisis of searching for Qiu Shuang seemed to have been inexplicably resolved, but invisibly, many more issues had arisen because, according to their observations, Qiu Shuang seemed like a changed person.
“Shuangshuang, your state of mind isn’t very good…”
“Oh? So? Because my state of mind wasn’t good, you installed a tracker on me?”
Qiu Shuang didn’t understand—or rather, she had deeply trusted this “good deskmate” of hers. After all, the other person had truly helped her solve all her problems. And now? She had learned the truth from Xin Zhu.
Lu Chen’s mind raced, and she realized what had happened. It seemed this Junior Xin Zhu far exceeded their imagination; her disguise was truly inconceivable.
“I apologize for that. To be honest, after you were hurt because of Chen Wanjun, I secretly placed that tracker. I had my own selfish motives. I always call the others cowards, but in truth, I am no different from them. Shuangshuang, I love you just as much, but I didn’t dare to stand in the light. I feared your rejection; I was afraid we would never even be friends again.”
“I’m sorry you found out about the wrong things I did. You must be very hurt. If you hate me for it, or if it causes you revulsion, I won’t appear before you again.”
Qiu Shuang looked at her. Human emotions were truly complex; she couldn’t simply tell the other person to get lost, yet she couldn’t magnanimously forgive her either.
How strange. The old Qiu Shuang always forgave others’ hurts so easily, yet why, at this moment, was she being inexplicably “melodramatic”?
“I used to view you as the best person in this world. I felt you were like a savior, solving so many of my problems. When no one else cared about me, you were the only one who did. You were just a good person who treated me with the attitude one gives an ordinary person. I shouldn’t have worshipped your actions as if they were a divine decree.”
“But at that time, I was truly so miserable. No one noticed me, and no one truly cared for me. Only you cared.”
Qiu Shuang stopped halfway through and closed her mouth. She wasn’t good at baring her soul; perhaps it was because she always pretended not to care. She always felt that baring her heart to others was a pathetic issue.
She shouldn’t tell others how truly sad she was; she should bury all her emotions deep within that sea in her heart.
“Forget it, what’s the use of saying so much? Now that I have a lover, there’s no need for you all to pursue me anymore, is there?”
“Shuangshuang, I hope you are with her because of love and true admiration, and not just to avoid harassment. That might sound like nothing, but I think a ‘you’ like that probably won’t be happy.”
