I Heard That I am a HeartBreaker - Chapter 76
Qiu Shuang sat on the bed and looked at Qi Sijiao. The latter wore a smile, attempting to curry favor with her. Qiu Shuang had no intention of accepting it; strictly speaking, she disliked others invading her private space.
To be precise, no normal person would be willing to allow it, let alone the fact that the person in front of her wasn’t exactly “normal.” Qi Sijiao, meanwhile, was observing Qiu Shuang’s hand. She couldn’t understand—why did the other woman always wear a wristwatch?
Back in the dormitory, Qi Sijiao had noticed it long ago. At the time, she was curious why someone would still look at a watch in an era where everyone had a smartphone. Now that they were back home, with clocks and phones everywhere, she was still wearing it. It was truly a bit strange.
Qiu Shuang looked at Qi Sijiao and noticed she was spacing out again for some reason. She didn’t know how to evaluate this, only hoping the other girl would go see a doctor; zoning out so inexplicably might mean there was something wrong with her head.
As for how Qi Sijiao had obtained her detailed home address, Qiu Shuang tried her best not to think about it. Knowing the truth and dwelling on it would only be distressing; it was better to give up on that challenge from the start. Otherwise, if she actually investigated the matter, Qiu Shuang feared she wouldn’t be able to resist calling the police.
Ultimately, after all the twisting and turning, the other girl had ended up at her house, even gloriously managing to secure a status as a temporary resident. Since Qiu Shuang still needed to focus on her own adjustments during this period, she did her best to maintain a harmonious state in front of her.
Qiu Shuang, already very self-conscious, tilted her body to block Qi Sijiao’s line of sight to her hand. She had noticed the girl staring at her watch and, unsure of what she might do next, decided it was better to be cautious.
Qi Sijiao was still deep in thought. Everyone has different quirks, but why did her Senior always wear this watch? Did she have some kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder that required her to check the time every second? Qi Sijiao couldn’t quite imagine it, as she had never met anyone like that.
Qiu Shuang never had to do anything; people would always gravitate toward her. She only had to sit there quietly. Although those things might not be what she wanted, who could truly untangle the rights and wrongs of the world?
“Qi Sijiao, do you know Xin Zhu?”
This was the first time Qi Sijiao had heard that name come out of the other’s mouth. She certainly knew her, but she had never proactively mentioned her past interactions with her. All along, she had acted as if they weren’t familiar, just as she had shown her Senior, because they truly weren’t that close.
Qiu Shuang noticed the change in her expression. Regarding this junior, Qiu Shuang’s impression was actually quite good. Regardless of what the other person’s ultimate goal was, they were at least smart. From a pursuit standpoint, Qiu Shuang felt the other girl had done well enough, as she clearly did her research.
She even remembered the course schedule. Although Qiu Shuang currently had no interest in appreciating Xin Zhu—after all, the image of that junior who had been temporarily suspended was still in her mind—if one cast aside those dark corners and insincere calculations…
To be honest, perhaps spending a lifetime with someone so smart and capable of management wouldn’t be a bad choice.
“Of course I know her. Isn’t she that kid who’s chasing you? She’s got way too many schemes. Anyway, I don’t like her much. It’s useless to ask me that kind of question; she and I are competitors, so of course I’m going to say bad things about her.”
“You’re quite candid. But you don’t need to worry; the probability of me being with Xin Zhu is much higher than being with you. Though, Xin Zhu isn’t exactly a good choice either.”
Despite already knowing the ultimate answer, Qi Sijiao’s complexion turned a bit unsightly upon hearing the other woman emphasize it over and over again.
However, she absolutely could not lose her temper or back out. The process might be important, but the result was the final definition. Qi Sijiao didn’t chase after so-called “sweet happiness” during the pursuit; she only wanted that final second of bliss.
As for the other pursuers—it was normal for an excellent person to be pursued by many, and it was normal for those pursuers to be more excellent than her. But she wasn’t exactly ordinary either; she had her own merits. Qi Sijiao felt she was unique; there certainly wouldn’t be anyone else like her in this world.
“Xin Zhu isn’t as bright and kind as you imagine. Ever since I found out she appeared by your side, I’ve investigated her. I haven’t said anything because I was afraid you’d suspect me. Now, you can think I’m maliciously distorting the facts if you want, but I can tell you exactly what she’s done.”
As Qi Sijiao spoke, she watched Qiu Shuang cautiously. She didn’t know what kind of image Xin Zhu held in the other woman’s heart. After all, that girl was too good at pretending. If Qi Sijiao wasn’t familiar with Xin Zhu, she would likely consider her a very decent person based on her attitude alone.
Hearing this, Qiu Shuang didn’t argue. There was no need. Xin Zhu, at her core, probably wasn’t anything good either. However, she guessed that in Qi Sijiao’s mind, she was likely seen as a naive person—otherwise, she should be in a state of knowing nothing.
Qiu Shuang didn’t know how to evaluate this behavior. In the eyes of these people, it seemed she was always like a little fool, passively receiving signals and self-righteously believing them all to be “good things.” Little did they know, their masks had long since slipped in her eyes.
“Is that so? I’ve never heard those things about Xin Zhu. I think she’s quite sincere, whether she’s pursuing me or just doing things. When I was eating with Gu Lingxi before, I ran into her. She was waiting tables in that restaurant, and her life didn’t seem to be going very well. She’s a very resilient young girl.”
Hearing Qiu Shuang’s words, Qi Sijiao felt like she was about to vomit blood. She desperately wanted to tell her that Xin Zhu was no “good kid”—she was the most despicable kid in the world. But after thinking about it, she realized she needed to maintain a soft attitude and use gentle persuasion to get her to accept the “real” Xin Zhu.
Qiu Shuang wanted to observe the other’s reaction through this statement. Sure enough, she saw the other woman clutching her sleeves tightly—a common habit Qi Sijiao had whenever she was enduring something. It seemed the things Xin Zhu was doing behind the scenes were likely more numerous than she imagined.
In nearly a year of being together, Qiu Shuang understood the other girl very well. Qi Sijiao might always be full of flowery words and was sometimes even annoying, but there was one thing she did relatively well: at least she never spoke ill of others or spread rumors behind their backs.
“Senior, you should know we’re in the same college, right? It’s a bit frustrating to say, and it might make you sad, but facts prove that Xin Zhu only approached you because she noticed I liked you. She isn’t sincere toward you at all; all that ‘sincerity’ is just her disguise.”
Qi Sijiao didn’t say the words that followed, as they involved a general reason within the community. In this circle, someone cute and sweet like Xin Zhu wasn’t actually very popular. It wasn’t about her looks, but her personality; a sweet girl like Xin Zhu was always assumed to be a “bottom” (submissive) and pursued by “tops,” which would cause her to flip out. Meanwhile, the audience for Qi Sijiao’s own type wasn’t that large.
The other girl seemed cute, but in reality, she was like a smelly, hard stone that would never bow her head.
Qi Sijiao had once wondered if Qiu Shuang treated the girl so well because she viewed her as a “bottom,” but the more she thought about it, the more it didn’t seem right. Based on Qi Sijiao’s observations, Qiu Shuang never seemed to have those kinds of behaviors or thoughts.
Qi Sijiao was no innocent maiden; she understood those matters. In the past, she had always viewed herself as the “top” (dominant); she wouldn’t accept anyone invading her body. But thinking about it carefully, if it were her Senior, she could accept it.
She would accept whatever her Senior did to her. Qi Sijiao didn’t actually understand why people in the past talked about “switching” (versatile), but now she understood. She craved the other’s touch on her body and enjoyed the idea of the other’s gaze being forever anchored to her alone.
“So, what you’re saying is, Xin Zhu is pursuing me just to spite you? If we go by what you’re saying, I think you two would make a great ‘bickering rivals’ couple.”
Qiu Shuang had no idea how much damage this sentence inflicted on the person across from her. She couldn’t imagine what kind of relationship would make two parties tirelessly snatch away the person the other admired.
If that wasn’t love, then what was it? Hate? But if there’s no love, where does the hate come from?
Qiu Shuang didn’t feel that her “random matchmaking” was terrifying at all; she just thought the match was quite good. If, according to the other’s logic, Xin Zhu’s pursuit was merely to get back at Qi Sijiao, then she really had to wonder if there was some sort of “affair” between the two of them.
“Did you two date and then have a falling out, so now you’ve come for me? Using me for a bet is truly disgusting. You two should just get back together; I support you.”
Qi Sijiao felt she might be hearing things. Otherwise, how could she hear such terrifying words? She tried to clear her thoughts and understand what the other was saying, but after hearing the second emphasis, she truly almost threw up.
Qi Sijiao looked at her seriously, hoping she was joking. But seeing Qiu Shuang’s serious face and the pursed corners of her mouth—looking genuinely unhappy, as if she felt insulted—she had a sudden realization. Good heavens! The relationship between them was a pure competitive rivalry, a straightforward confrontation between enemies, yet it had been twisted into something so horrifying!
“How is that possible? How could I have ever dated her? That’s too scary! Senior, do you have a fever? Or what’s going on? Impossible, absolutely impossible!”
Qiu Shuang had originally been a bit confused and asked tentatively, only to find the other girl reacting like a spring, nearly launching herself away. Consequently, she became even more curious about the relationship between the two. She couldn’t have imagined that simple competition could lead to this point. How interesting.
“You two are so much like a novel.”
