I Heard That I am a HeartBreaker - Chapter 34
Gu Su was deep in thought as she listened to her subordinate’s report. Since her unpleasant parting with Gu Lingxi, she had planted this mole. It wasn’t a major issue, really, just keeping an eye on the other party.
The main reason was that Gu Su also wanted to know the development of their relationship. However, when she heard that Qiu Shuang seemed to have limited mobility these past few days, she fell silent.
“Alright, I understand. You may leave.”
After dismissing her subordinate, Gu Su sighed and picked up her phone.
“Gu Lingxi, come over here.”
Gu Lingxi, who was reading documents, was a little confused when she received the message. Since she had fallen out with Gu Su that day, it had been difficult for her to give her a good face, and she no longer sought out Gu Su.
More importantly, although the initial purpose of the internship pretense was to get Qiu Shuang involved, Gu Lingxi was already a junior in college and was supposed to return to her family’s enterprise. Although she considered herself a useless second-generation rich kid, she was actually working seriously.
While waiting for her sister, Gu Su pinched her temples, feeling a headache coming on. She tried her best not to guess the situation had veered towards illegal activity, nor did she want to fantasize that her sister was a potential criminal.
It wasn’t until the knock on the door sounded and Gu Lingxi pushed it open that Gu Su slowly breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that her sister seemed normal. Of course, it was only a slight relief, as more terrifying associations had already sprung up in her mind.
“…How are you two doing lately?”
Gu Lingxi thought there was something urgent, but she didn’t expect the conversation to circle back to emotional issues. Her face instantly became ugly, even though their relationship was quite good.
But no matter what, they were just sisters of the same generation; they couldn’t be considered a parent-child relationship where one could dictate to the other. There was no need to manage every aspect of her life.
“We’re doing great. Why are you so concerned?”
Gu Lingxi honestly didn’t understand her sister’s logic. If Qiu Shuang was truly a bad person or someone with ulterior motives, it wouldn’t be a big deal to step in.
But to argue back and forth, constantly belittling her and saying she couldn’t compete with others—such a reason was somewhat untenable. Although the Gu family wasn’t top-tier, they were still one of the best.
Gu Su noticed her sister’s displeasure. Sometimes, a huge family could appear magnificent and opulent, but it also held its own filth in the corners.
Thinking about the major event that had recently happened, Gu Su felt a real headache. Now everyone was waiting to watch the show, and at this sensitive moment, absolutely no one was allowed to make mistakes or deviations.
“Gu Lingxi, I’m not joking with you. What’s wrong with Qiu Shuang? Why is she hurt? Is it because of you? Explain it clearly to me.”
Gu Lingxi almost exploded upon hearing this topic. What did this prove? Wasn’t it obvious?
How could Gu Su secretly hire someone to monitor them? What did she do? What cosmic law did she break by trying to get into a relationship? Were they criminals?
“What do you mean by this? You secretly hired someone to watch us! Gu Su, I remember you used to tell me how much control Mom had. I see you’re no better than her!”
“Shut up!”
Gu Su’s angry roar stopped Gu Lingxi mid-sentence. She looked at Gu Su’s appearance, and her expression instantly became tense. Had something really major happened?
Gu Su pinched her temples and finally spoke about the major event.
“Something happened with Gu Xue.”
Gu Lingxi fell silent upon hearing the name. This didn’t sound very glorious. In fact, she had often wondered if there was something wrong with her family’s genes.
Otherwise, why had the few girls in the family inexplicably all become lesbians? It could almost be called a total wipeout.
Gu Xue was the daughter of Gu Lingxi and Gu Su’s biological aunt. This aunt did not possess the so-called sophisticated demeanor of a grand family’s wealthy daughter; her conduct was no different from a commoner’s.
Not being smart aside, she was extremely obsessed with love. With their mother’s help, she chose a man to marry into the family and had a daughter, living a decent life on dividends. Apart from being occasionally foolish, there wasn’t much to say about this branch of the family.
As for Gu Xue herself, compared to her parents, she was somewhat legendary.
Gu Lingxi didn’t actually know when she started being “bent.” When the news broke, the elders who considered themselves venerable almost blew up, but then, for some inexplicable reason, they all went silent.
Gu Lingxi spent some money and got a rumor: the other party had apparently started dating the only daughter of the Fang family. In a sense, she had managed to climb the social ladder.
“She can still get into trouble? Her domineering, rich, and love-struck girlfriend wouldn’t clear up all her problems for her. What is it, did Gu Xue cheat and break up?”
Gu Lingxi couldn’t be blamed for thinking the worst of her, but she simply couldn’t imagine this scenario. After all, Gu Xue had acted crazy so many times, yet that woman surnamed Fang was willing to clean up after her mess every single time. The level of devotion and being love-struck was enough to make anyone kneel and sing Conquer.
“It’s not a big problem for her personally, but it’s a terrible scandal for the entire Gu family. Someone released a DNA test report… Lingxi, our aunt is not our biological aunt.”
“Can we not be so dramatic? This sounds so cliché, okay?”
Gu Lingxi was having trouble accepting this. She couldn’t accept that the hackneyed and low-class plot of a fake rich daughter could appear in their family.
It would be truly embarrassing if this got out. How much of a failure must a family this big be if their child could be secretly switched? But after thinking about the events that happened decades ago, both of them fell silent.
“It’s about that incident that happened with Grandpa before, right…”
Gu Su nodded, agreeing with her statement. Seeing this, Gu Lingxi said nothing more and looked out the window.
In the end, it was all about money and power. That so-called struggle for inheritance was so tragic. Their grandfather passed away, their father became frail and sickly because of it, and he died when they were young.
Their aunt was also almost taken away but was eventually brought back. Now that she thought about it, perhaps the person brought back at that time wasn’t the original one.
“So, where is our biological aunt now? Is she still alive? Is she doing well?”
As soon as Gu Lingxi asked this question, she noticed her sister’s hands pause. She sensed guilt in her sister’s eyes.
“Say something. What? Did you not find her? I don’t believe it.”
Gu Su lowered her eyes and finally said the rest.
“I found her. Aunt was adopted by a couple. They named her Tianci. She is doing very well. She is a Doctor, and she has a child. Although this child is not at the same university as you, I think you should have heard her name… She’s called Song Ya.”
When that name came out of Gu Su’s mouth, Gu Lingxi immediately reacted. So what? Was she supposed to step aside and make way for someone else? No wonder Gu Su had inexplicably tried to stop them. It all came down to this.
“What difference does her name make? Does this ‘thing’ called love have to be decided by who was first? If that’s the case, then just let that person surnamed Chen be with Qiu Shuang. I won’t let go, and I won’t give up. Why should I surrender her to her!”
Gu Su also had a headache. This was a huge joke in itself. What kind of first cousins inexplicably fall in love with the same person? As for lesbianism itself, it was fine as long as people knew and didn’t spread it.
If two sisters fought and ripped each other apart over a woman, wouldn’t that give others more fuel for gossip? Gu Su genuinely couldn’t imagine how much new risk would be introduced to the board of directors, especially when she learned Qiu Shuang was injured.
She desperately hoped that the injury was an accident or self-inflicted, and that it had absolutely nothing to do with her sister. Otherwise, even the slightest, most insignificant connection would be completely magnified by those with ulterior motives.
“Fine, we’ll discuss this issue later. Did you hit Qiu Shuang because she didn’t accept your confession or didn’t like you?”
Gu Lingxi was even more furious upon hearing this. She truly didn’t know why, in her sister’s mind, she was always portrayed negatively.
“Why do you always think I’m the one doing bad things? She just accidentally fell. And this is being blamed on me again? Am I some heinous person, an invincible Wreck-It Ralph who goes around causing destruction every day?”
Gu Su was speechless at that. She looked at her sister and didn’t say anything. Was Gu Lingxi a good person? She wouldn’t comment. She could only say that in the circle of the rich, her sister was considered a relatively decent person.
But at least the title of “Sea Queen” was unavoidable. Gu Su truly didn’t believe in the so-called Sea Queen settling down and abandoning the life. It was all a joke.
What did unparalleled beauty and a brilliant spiritual core matter? Could they easily change someone else’s inner self?
One after another, people talked about useless things, always wanting to tie a perfect person to a rotten one to achieve redemption. Tell me, what did the perfect person owe anyone?
They spoke of pure love, but they coaxed and cheated, tricking the other party into living under the same roof, having them pay a negligible rent. Don’t think she didn’t know what was on Gu Lingxi’s mind.
Perhaps Gu Su should indeed praise her sister’s patience. After all, Gu Lingxi used to just throw money at people. Now, she had acquired an “elderly flower,” didn’t need money, and was holding her up like a treasure.
But a ‘White Moonlight’ that fell into her arms would just become a disposable “medal,” and a ‘Cinnabar Mole’ in her heart would merely be a topic of ridicule years later.
Gu Su never believed that Gu Lingxi was capable of so-called true love.
“Fine, it’s okay as long as you weren’t the one who did it. We’ll talk about this later. In short, either you let go, or you find a way to make that Song Ya let go.”
“Alright, I’ll figure out a way.”
After saying this, Gu Lingxi slammed the door and left. Gu Su stared blankly at her retreating figure for a while.
She hoped this kind of scene wouldn’t happen again. On one hand, it gave her a headache; on the other, Gu Su was afraid that if it happened a few more times, the door frame of her office would be knocked off.
After a moment of silence, Gu Su called the phone on her desk again.
“Starting today, give the intern named Qiu Shuang a salary, based on a regular employee’s wage.”
The Human Resources manager hesitated after receiving Gu Su’s call but didn’t say anything. Fine, you couldn’t mess with people who had connections.
And so, Qiu Shuang, who was cosplaying as a one-legged doll in the office, received this news.
“What? I get a salary too?”
