I Heard That I am a HeartBreaker - Chapter 30
After hearing her foolish sister’s remarks, Gu Su directly rolled her eyes. She almost lost her composure and burst out cursing. She truly hadn’t expected her idiotic sister to be so overly confident.
“Why are you so delusional? Am I looking down on her? I’m looking down on you, you know? Take a good look at yourself. What do you have going for you? Focus on improving yourself. Based on my investigation, your schoolmate is surrounded by a wealth of talent. You simply don’t make the cut.”
Gu Lingxi’s face instantly darkened upon hearing Gu Su’s words. But immediately, she changed her demeanor, clasping her hands together in earnest prayer.
“We’re sisters, you know. Good sister, can’t you help your poor, helpless little sister? Are you really going to stand by and watch me be lonely forever and lose my true love?”
Gu Su showed a cruel smile, then tossed a document bag onto the table in front of Gu Lingxi.
Gu Lingxi was puzzled by her action but still opened the document bag and began to seriously look through the materials. Gu Su also began earnestly trying to persuade her to give up.
“See for yourself. Professor Lu’s daughter, the Song family’s heiress, the Qi family’s heiress, the direct Ph.D. candidate Chen Wanjun, and Xin Zhu who earned millions on her own. What is Gu Lingxi? The only thing you have going for you is that you have a super-awesome sister: me, Gu Su.”
Gu Lingxi’s face grew uglier. She had never investigated the matter in detail before. Perhaps it was her excessive self-confidence and smug pride, but Gu Lingxi never performed so-called background checks when pursuing someone.
Honestly, if it weren’t for bringing Qiu Shuang to intern at her family’s company this time, Gu Lingxi probably wouldn’t even know Qiu Shuang’s real family situation.
Perhaps, to some extent, Gu Su was right. Gu Lingxi was a little too self-absorbed, taking herself too seriously, which is why she ultimately failed to gain anything.
She only knew that there were indeed suitors around her schoolmate, but she hadn’t considered that they were all so exceptional. Looking at it this way, she couldn’t compare to anyone on the list in terms of affection, social status, wealth, or ability. Even her looks, which she usually prided herself on, weren’t particularly unique compared to them.
Even though Gu Lingxi didn’t want to admit the fact, among all the suitors, she was truly only average.
“What? Shocked now? Now you know what’s going on, and you actually tricked her into coming to our company. You’ll get your comeuppance from these people once you’re back at school.”
Qiu Shuang, who was diligently working on the second floor, had no idea what kind of storm awaited her when school started. She sneezed, feeling as if someone was talking about her behind her back.
The debate between the sisters continued to rage.
“I advise you to give up now. A person like her is someone you won’t be able to hold onto or win over. If you were me, you might have a chance to fight for her, but you’re not…”
At this point, Gu Su pinched her temples. She knew her next words would be harsh or perhaps unpleasant, but that’s just how life is. How could anyone be perfect and get everything they ever wanted?
“Even if you got her, could you keep her?”
Gu Su sighed while speaking, marveling at the mystery of love. She didn’t understand why this one girl attracted so many people’s affection. But after looking at the pretty two-inch photo on the summary, she understood. Perhaps pretty girls were always so well-loved.
She was actually quite accepting of her sister liking girls. As long as she wasn’t murdering or committing arson, and she was obeying the law, Gu Su was completely supportive of anything her sister did. She didn’t even object when her sister brought the person she wanted to pursue into the company for an internship.
What she couldn’t stand was her sister being utterly oblivious while deep in the “sea of love.”
It would have been better if Qiu Shuang were a gold-digger or morally corrupt.
Gu Su had investigated Qiu Shuang thoroughly. Other than her average family background, it was genuinely hard to find any flaws in her. Gu Su didn’t believe such a good person existed. She even checked Qiu Shuang’s web browsing history.
For heaven’s sake, all the girl watched were various mukbangs, educational content, and cute pets. She had nothing else. Even when encountering bad content, she never joined in on the criticism. When she saw a video she liked, she would send three ‘flower’ emoticons, acting like an old person living in the last century.
How could she possibly create a loophole or a reason to make her sister dislike her?
Gu Su thought for a long time and finally gave up. She could only solve the problem at the root, extinguishing the flame of love in the cradle. After all, she could tell from the girl’s actions that she only saw her sister as a senior schoolmate.
Hearing her sister’s words, Gu Lingxi bit her lip and clenched her fists. She said nothing, spun around, and slammed the door shut as she went upstairs. Gu Su flinched at the sound of the door slamming but made no attempt to stop her.
What else could she do? Force the young girl to date her sister?
Should she perhaps throw money at her, asking her to fake a relationship with her sister? Thinking of this, Gu Su shook her head. That would be too degrading. Her family had lost enough face in high society over the years. Thinking of the leech of a man her aunt had found, Gu Su’s head hurt even more.
She picked up the phone on her desk.
“Call the new intern, Qiu Shuang, from the second floor up here.”
Qiu Shuang was unaware of the storm brewing on the top floor. She was just quietly working until the colleague mentoring her told her to go up. She was skeptical and thought it was unbelievable. Why would she be called up out of the blue? It probably wasn’t good news.
Before leaving, Qiu Shuang went to the restroom to check her appearance, making sure no one could pick fault with her. Then she followed the secretary up the elevator to the top floor.
As she was about to knock on the door, Qiu Shuang let out a long sigh. It was impossible not to be nervous. She strongly suspected that the CEO might be having second thoughts and was looking for an excuse to cancel her internship. But she decided to face whatever came her way; she had come this far.
“Hello, CEO Gu. May I ask why you wanted to see me?”
Gu Su put down her documents and looked up at the girl in front of her. Oh, she was much prettier than in the photo and looked gentler. No wonder her sister was so obsessed.
“It’s just that I heard your work has been excellent lately, so I wanted to meet you.”
“Thank you, CEO Gu. Compared to the seniors in the office, I think my work is only average. It’s entirely due to the patience of Sister Chen who mentors me, and I appreciate the care and tolerance of the other seniors.”
Gu Su looked at the young girl, who was gazing at her with those bright eyes, and felt an instant premonition of disaster.
Why was the girl looking at her like that? If she were to fall in love with her, what kind of mess would that be? If her sister found out that her crush didn’t like her but had fallen for her own sister…
That would truly be terrible.
Gu Su began to seriously consider her own looks. Indeed, smart, mature, and beautiful women like her must be very attractive. Gu Su was lost in her own enthusiastic thoughts, completely overlooking a very serious problem: she wasn’t actually a lesbian.
Qiu Shuang looked at the dazed Gu Su with confusion. Did she say something wrong in her reply?
Why did the CEO suddenly stop talking? What should she do? Was there still time to correct herself?
“CEO Gu, do you have anything else?”
At this moment, Gu Su had already entered her own fantasy world. She had seen a doctor before who said she was a bit narcissistic, but Gu Su felt that moderate narcissism shouldn’t affect her normal life.
If the girl really confessed to her, how should she gently reject her… Wait, why was she thinking so much? Oh, she must have forgotten to take her medicine today.
“Oh, I was thinking about something else,” Gu Su, who had just been spaced out, quickly returned to the conversation.
“What are your thoughts on Gu Lingxi, the one who came to intern with you?”
When she heard the question, Qiu Shuang understood what was happening. No wonder the CEO randomly asked to see her, an intern. She wanted her to report on her.
Qiu Shuang couldn’t bring herself to backstab a colleague. The most important thing was that her senior schoolmate had helped her get this job to some extent. If she dared to speak ill of her senior behind her back, she would truly be a horrible person.
More importantly, this corporation’s surname was Gu. No matter what, her schoolmate was related to them.
For the CEO to ask this question, she was either testing whose side she was on or this was some kind of family inheritance battle. She didn’t want to get involved in these wealthy family wars. A standard, neutral answer should be fine.
“Senior Gu Lingxi studies very diligently at school. She is the president of one of our university’s student organizations. She is a very sincere person, and her professional academic performance is excellent. She is a very good schoolmate.”
Gu Su knew it was completely hopeless when she heard Qiu Shuang’s generic answer. See? There was no personal emotion whatsoever, just a template. She had been thoroughly friend-zoned.
“Alright, I called you in just to understand the situation. You can go back to work.”
Watching the girl nod and leave the office, Gu Su sighed, took out her phone, and sent a message.
“I went to see Qiu Shuang.”
Gu Su then witnessed her deadbeat sister, who usually only took her red packets and rarely replied to her messages, instantly reply.
“What! What are you going to do to her? Are you going to give her 5 million to leave my side forever?”
“…”
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you going to threaten her, telling her that if she doesn’t leave me, you’ll [unintelligible] her, forcing me to choose?”
“Gu Lingxi, stop reading so many CEO romance novels. Besides, we are in a society governed by law. The most important thing is, how do you know she doesn’t want to leave you? …I just asked her what she thought of you.”
There was a pause on the other end of the message.
“My dearest sister, you are the smartest and most outstanding woman in the world. Please tell me what she thinks of me.”
Gu Su smiled at her sister’s flattery on the phone.
“It’s all over. I gave her 100 million and sent her to the United States. You two will never see each other again. She will become the white moonlight of your life, and you will find a substitute and have a deeply abusive romance with them. Five years later, I will bring her back to the country, and this time, she will take back everything that belongs to her.”
