I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 63
When they walked out of the cinema, Yan Zui went to the restroom, while Qi Yunwei and Zhou Xiao stood by the window waiting for her.
The chill of the autumn night breeze made Qi Yunwei shiver. Zhou Xiao, still hugging a half-finished bucket of popcorn, laughed and teased,
“Yunwei, you and President Yan have been married this long, and you still get shy just standing close to her?”
Qi Yunwei retorted,
“That’s called romance. Being close in public and at home isn’t the same thing, you know? And besides, I only got embarrassed because you were there.”
The truth was, in that moment she had already forgotten where she was—her eyes, her heart, were filled only with Yan Zui.
Whether Zhou Xiao was there or not didn’t matter at all.
Qi Yunwei sensed that her lapse wasn’t just because of Yan Zui’s beauty. It felt like there was something more to it, though she hadn’t figured out what yet.
When Yan Zui returned from the restroom, Qi Yunwei instinctively avoided her gaze and walked ahead, saying,
“Let’s go eat at the restaurant on the sixth floor.”
“That’s the one famous for its night view—super romantic, perfect for couples. I’ll just head to the third floor. No way I’m being your third wheel,” Zhou Xiao said tactfully.
Yan Zui knew when to hold back. During dinner she didn’t tease Qi Yunwei, and slowly, Qi Yunwei relaxed. The two of them chatted as they ate, watching the night skyline. The atmosphere was blissful, and Qi Yunwei felt herself almost drunk on it.
By the time they left the restaurant, her heart felt like it was being lifted by soft, white clouds, swaying gently in the night wind.
It was a feeling unlike anything she had ever experienced in her twenty-odd years of life.
On the drive home, both Qi Yunwei and Yan Zui were lost in their own thoughts, neither speaking. Zhou Xiao thought they had quarreled, but when he glanced at the rearview mirror a few times, he saw the faint smiles tugging at their lips—definitely not the look of two people fighting. He couldn’t make sense of it.
Once they got home, Qi Yunwei edited the photos they had taken that day and posted them on her Moments.
President Liu and Madam Liu, seemingly glued to their WeChat, instantly liked and commented.
Qi Yunwei: [Photo] [Photo] [Photo] A beautiful after-work evening.
President Liu: Out on a date with President Yan, I see. Wishing you both happiness forever.
Madam Liu: Such a perfect match, I’m envious.
Du Yifan chimed in just as quickly: I actually have a boss’s wife now! Wishing you everlasting happiness!
Qi Yunwei replied to each of them with a smiling emoji.
Yan Zui then called her to join her in the gym. Seeing Qi Yunwei grinning at her phone, she asked,
“What’s making you so happy?”
Qi Yunwei put her phone down.
“You’ll know once you check my Moments.”
Thanks to her consistent training over the past weeks, Qi Yunwei’s stamina had already caught up to an average Beta’s. She believed it wouldn’t be long before she could reach Alpha-level fitness.
They did cardio for an hour, worked up a sweat, and then went to shower separately.
But when Qi Yunwei turned on the water in the guest bathroom, the hot water sputtered out, turning cold.
With the company at such a critical stage, she couldn’t afford to get sick. Wrapping herself in a towel, she hurried to the next guest room—only to find no hot water there either.
She began to worry about Yan Zui. Could she have gone ahead with a cold shower?
Returning to the master bedroom, Qi Yunwei didn’t see her. The sound of running water still came from the bathroom. She knocked on the door.
“Yan Zui, is your water still hot?”
The water stopped. Moments later, Yan Zui opened the door, her cheeks flushed, sapphire-dark eyes glistening with moisture.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, then noticed the foam still clinging to Qi Yunwei’s shoulders and hair.
“The water suddenly turned cold and wouldn’t heat up again. I had no choice but to come to you. Your side is fine?” Qi Yunwei asked.
Yan Zui stepped out of the bathroom.
“You can shower here. The master and guest rooms use different pipelines—this one’s fine.”
“Thanks. ah-choo!” Qi Yunwei sneezed, quickly slipping inside and closing the door.
The shower itself was fine, but the moment she stepped out, exposed to the air, sneezes came one after another. Her head grew dizzy.
“I think I caught a cold. I’ll go sleep in the guest room so I don’t pass it to you,” Qi Yunwei mumbled.
Yan Zui shook her head.
“My immune system is strong. I’ve hardly ever been sick since childhood.”
She stepped closer, touching Qi Yunwei’s forehead. Normal, for now—but who knew if she might run a fever by midnight.
Yan Zui gently pulled her into bed.
“We don’t have any medicine at home. I’ll go buy some. Just stay here and don’t move.”
Propping herself up, Qi Yunwei’s head throbbed with waves of pain. Before she could say anything, Yan Zui had already changed clothes and left.
She hadn’t even dried her hair.
Afraid of falling asleep, Qi Yunwei leaned against the headboard, forcing her heavy eyelids open. Whenever she nearly drifted off, she blinked rapidly to stay awake.
It didn’t feel long before Yan Zui returned, slightly breathless, cheeks still tinged pink. She carried a glass of water, slipped a capsule into Qi Yunwei’s mouth, and held the cup to her lips.
“The pharmacist said one of these will do.”
Qi Yunwei looked up at her and obediently swallowed.
As Yan Zui turned away, the tips of her damp hair brushed against Qi Yunwei’s cheek, icy cold.
Placing the glass on the nightstand, she said,
“Lie down and rest.” Without giving Qi Yunwei a chance to respond, she headed into the bathroom to dry her hair.
Qi Yunwei had always seen herself as Yan Zui’s protector. She had never imagined that one day she would be the one so carefully looked after.
When Yan Zui returned, hair dried, Qi Yunwei was already asleep under the medicine’s effect.
Turning off the lights, Yan Zui lay down but couldn’t sleep. Worrying Qi Yunwei might develop a fever, she dozed fitfully, waking every so often to check her forehead. Only after confirming her temperature stayed normal did she allow herself to relax again.
Morning came quickly. Finally reassured Qi Yunwei was fine, Yan Zui exhaled deeply.
For the first time, she and Qi Yunwei had shared a bed without either of them sleeping properly.
Yet despite a sleepless night, Yan Zui felt strangely energized. After washing up, she went to the kitchen to see about breakfast.
She remembered Qi Yunwei usually had to prep the ingredients in advance.
But when she entered the kitchen, Xiao Jiu was already washing vegetables.
Yan Zui was sure Qi Yunwei hadn’t prepared anything the night before. She walked over and asked,
“Xiao Jiu, where did these ingredients come from?”
“Good morning, pretty sister.” Xiao Jiu chimed. “Master upgraded me! Now I can pick ingredients from the fridge all by myself.”
“You’re amazing, Xiao Jiu.” Yan Zui patted its head.
But suddenly Xiao Jiu’s whole body flickered with light. Three seconds later, it spoke in a serious tone:
“Pretty sister, to stay beautiful you must sleep at night. I’ve detected your heart rate is abnormal. You need proper rest.”
Yan Zui was stunned yet again by its functions.
Just what kind of person was Qi Yunwei?
How did she even come up with such impossible ideas?
When Qi Yunwei woke, Yan Zui had already gone to work. After washing up and eating breakfast, she greeted Xiao Jiu in the kitchen.
“Good morning, Master.”
“Morning, Xiao Jiu. How’s Yan Zui today?” Qi Yunwei asked. Since discovering Yan Zui liked patting Xiao Jiu’s head, she had added a health-monitoring system—three seconds of contact could reveal basic body stats.
“Pretty sister didn’t sleep all night. Her heart rate is too fast. I advised her to rest, but she said she had to go to work.”
Qi Yunwei froze. Yan Zui hadn’t slept all night—was it because she was worried Qi Yunwei might have a fever?
She stood motionless, her heart soaking in a pool of warmth, tinged with a bittersweet ache.
Finally, she sent a message: What do you want for lunch?
Yan Zui: No need to bring me lunch today. I have a meeting with suppliers.
She never went out for lunch meetings before.
She must be trying to let Qi Yunwei rest.
Xiaoman, Yan Zui treats me so well… I feel like nothing I do for her is enough.
【Master, you’re amazing too! You’ve already dealt with four scumbags for her. Don’t slack now—there are plenty more waiting for you!】
You’re right. I have to keep pushing forward.
Qi Yunwei had planned to rest the whole day, but Xiaoman was right—scumbags wouldn’t sit still and wait. She had to get up and keep moving.
Re-energized, she drove to the company.
Two new interns were supposed to arrive today.
As she entered the office, the receptionist said,
“Boss, there are two students waiting for you. They said they’re interns.”
Qi Yunwei glanced over, but her gaze was caught by a brand-new leather sofa set nearby.
“The movers said President Liu sent it over,” the receptionist added.
Qi Yunwei nodded.
The two interns had already noticed her when she walked in. At first, they thought she was just another intern—she looked about their age. But when she went straight to the receptionist, who treated her with more formality than she had shown them, they realized Qi Yunwei must hold a higher position.
So when Qi Yunwei approached, they sat up straighter.
She stopped before them, smiling as she extended her hand.
“No need to be nervous. Let’s introduce ourselves. I’m Qi Yunwei, boss of Yunmengze. We’ve talked before on the recruitment platform.”
The two froze in surprise. This young woman was the boss?
The crew-cut boy on the left quickly said,
“Nice to meet you, Boss. I’m Zhou Tang, and this is Wu Baizhi. We’re seniors majoring in Computer Science at Guangnan University.”
Qi Yunwei blinked at the familiar name.
“What did you say his name was?”
Zhou Tang looked even more nervous.
“Boss, he’s Wu Baizhi.”
Qi Yunwei turned to look at him. Medium height, average build, fair skin, plain T-shirt and jeans, black-rimmed glasses. Unlike his jittery classmate, Wu Baizhi’s expression was calm, his gaze steady as he met hers head-on.
From the slight lift of his chin, Qi Yunwei could tell—he was confident.
This must be the genius Wu Baizhi that Xiaoman had mentioned.
But his résumé hadn’t been in any of the intern applications she’d reviewed.
