I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 19
Qi Yunwei took the elevator to the top floor, doubts swirling in her mind. As soon as she stepped out, she ran into Secretary Shen, whom she had met the day before.
Secretary Shen caught sight of her and hesitated, as if something was on the tip of her tongue.
Qi Yunwei paused, greeted her with a smile, and said, “Good afternoon. I’ve come again to bring lunch for President Yan.”
Secretary Shen had always trusted her own judgment of people. She rarely misread anyone.
After chatting briefly with Qi Yunwei yesterday, she had already developed a favorable impression of this girl. Yet this morning, not long after arriving at work, the company’s group chat suddenly exploded with dirt about Qi Yunwei. Each accusation was backed with so-called “evidence.” Even after reading all of it, Secretary Shen found it hard to reconcile those claims with the warm, clean smile in front of her now.
Looking at Qi Yunwei’s face, she hesitated before finally offering a reminder:
“Miss Qi, you may not be aware, but some unpleasant rumors about you have been spreading anonymously in the company chat today. President Yan might see them.”
If President Yan did see them, there was a chance she might end things with Qi Yunwei for the sake of her public image.
Qi Yunwei frowned slightly. “So that’s what’s going on. No wonder everyone’s been giving me strange looks today.”
Her negative emotions rose and faded quickly. Soon enough, her smile returned.
“Thank you for telling me, Secretary Shen. I’ll talk it over with Yan Zui myself.”
【This must be Qin Lifeng’s doing! Master, he’s really awful!】 Xiaoman said indignantly.
After parting ways with Secretary Shen, Qi Yunwei walked toward the president’s office, unsurprised at Qin Lifeng’s underhanded move.
I’ll have to find a way to drive Qin Lifeng away from Yan Zui’s side first.
She had originally planned to wait—the plotline shouldn’t have advanced to this point yet. But she’d underestimated the ripple effects of her own changes.
Unable to stomach the growing closeness between her and Yan Zui, Qin Lifeng had lost patience and struck earlier than expected.
At the office door, Qi Yunwei raised her hand and knocked.
The door opened to reveal Qin Lifeng’s cold, hard face. His pupils contracted slightly at the sight of her.
Qi Yunwei ignored him and stepped forward, only to be blocked by his arm.
“No entry without an appointment.” Qin Lifeng stood like a wall before her, his imposing height radiating oppressive force.
Qi Yunwei met his gaze. “Appointment? If I remember correctly, I told Yan Zui in front of you this morning that I’d be coming at noon to have lunch with her, and she agreed. Qin bodyguard, is your memory failing you?”
The vein at Qin Lifeng’s temple twitched, but he stood firm. “I don’t know who you are, nor do I care to know. If you want to see President Yan, follow the proper procedure and make an appointment.”
He had taken leave yesterday specifically to investigate Qi Yunwei and Yan Zui’s sudden marriage. It had happened far too abruptly—there had to be something fishy behind it.
And sure enough, the truth wasn’t nearly as simple as it seemed.
Piecing together everything he’d uncovered, Qin Lifeng concluded that Yan Zui hadn’t married Qi Yunwei willingly at all, but had been forced into it. For the sake of her family and company’s reputation, she had no choice but to go through with it.
In reality, Yan Zui felt nothing for Qi Yunwei—worse, she resented her. But since the Yan family’s authority was still in Yan Zhao’s hands, she had no choice but to maintain a façade of intimacy to put her father at ease.
Qin Lifeng bitterly regretted taking that day off. His absence had given Qi Yunwei the opening she needed. Otherwise, Yan Zui would never have been pushed into marrying such a worthless woman.
Now, the Yan family’s butler lived in Yan Zui’s apartment, obviously sent by Yan Zhao to monitor the two of them. Yan Zui’s agreement this morning had only been because she couldn’t refuse in front of that watchful eye.
So long as he blocked Qi Yunwei at the door, Qin Lifeng was certain Yan Zui would feign ignorance and refuse to let her in.
After all, who would willingly eat with their enemy?
Qi Yunwei laughed in exasperation. “I was wrong. Your memory isn’t just faulty—it’s diseased. Qin Lifeng, what’s the point of blocking me? All I have to do is call Yan Zui or send her a message, and she’ll come out to meet me.”
Qin Lifeng didn’t believe a word of it.
President Yan would never come out for her.
On the contrary, it was always others scrambling to approach Yan Zui; never once had he seen her take the initiative.
He watched coldly as Qi Yunwei pulled out her phone, his eyes filled with ridicule.
Typing felt troublesome, so Qi Yunwei sent a voice message instead:
“Yan Zui, I’m outside your office. There’s a lot of food today, it’s too heavy for me to carry. Can you come out and help me?”
Yan Zui’s reply came quickly—two simple words: “Wait there.”
Within seconds, footsteps sounded from inside.
Qin Lifeng’s tall frame stiffened.
Why would Yan Zui actually come out?
When she reached the door, Yan Zui said calmly, “Lifeng, go eat.”
Qin Lifeng turned, face frozen. “President Yan, you need my protection.”
“There are no outsiders here,” Yan Zui replied evenly. “I don’t need protecting.”
Qi Yunwei was not considered an outsider?!
Qin Lifeng’s disbelief was plain.
Meanwhile, Qi Yunwei ignored his reaction and called out past him, her tone soft and drawn-out like she was acting spoiled:
“Yan Zui, tell him to move. I really can’t hold this anymore, today’s lunch is too heavy.”
The more it angered Qin Lifeng, the more she leaned into it.
“Lifeng,” Yan Zui said, “step aside.”
Rigidly, Qin Lifeng shifted two steps to the side, just enough space for Qi Yunwei to enter.
But she didn’t move. Instead, Yan Zui herself came out, took the lunchbox from her hands, and walked into the office first.
Qi Yunwei gave Qin Lifeng a triumphant shrug, lowering her voice to gloat:
“What can I say? Yan Zui just dotes on me. You may be by her side as a bodyguard, but at the end of the day, that’s all you are—a bodyguard. You’ll never stand as her equal. In her eyes, you’ll never matter.”
With that, she flashed him a bright smile and followed Yan Zui inside.
Qin Lifeng remained rooted in place, fists clenched so tightly the veins stood out, his gaze turning dark and dangerous.
