I Have the Aura of a Supporting Character in Yuri Novels - Chapter 53.2
Zhu Yun, sitting in the passenger seat, leaned against the window, looking at the factory in the distance. She wore a white woolen hat with two matching pom-poms dangling by her ears, which made her look even more beautiful.
She blew a strand of hair off her nose and said, “This is the place.”
Tang Zixi stopped the car. There weren’t many people on this trip. In the other car were Zhou Kuang, the bespectacled Wei Jin, and the godmother puppet.
Zhu Yun brushed her hair back and turned to Tang Zixi, saying, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll sell you out? I said there were treasures here, and you actually believed me.”
Tang Zixi looked at her, then got out of the car to retrieve a wheelchair, not responding to Zhu Yun’s words.
“Were you just rolling your eyes at me?”
The passenger door was opened, and Tang Zixi reached in to hug Zhu Yun. Her expression was still cold and indifferent, but there was a strawberry-sweet scent on her lips that seemed out of place, causing Zhu Yun, nestled in her arms, to stare at them.
Tang Zixi’s gaze subtly flickered across Zhu Yun’s face. “Deceiving me won’t do you any good. You wouldn’t do something so foolish.”
Zhu Yun couldn’t help but burst into a smile. She wrapped her hands around Tang Zixi’s arms. Even as she was being settled into the wheelchair, she didn’t forget to slide her hands down and take hold of Tang Zixi’s, forcing her to bend over and meet her gaze. Zhu Yun’s smiling eyes were like crescent moons. “Are you praising me?”
Her eyes were bright and clear, with only Tang Zixi’s reflection in their dark pupils. Tang Zixi suddenly felt there was nowhere to hide, because her eyes spoke volumes.
Tang Zixi briefly “mm-hmm’d,” freeing herself from the gentle trap. Her calm expression didn’t reveal the uncontainable ripple of emotion in her heart.
She pushed Zhu Yun forward. Zhou Kuang and Wei Jin followed behind, warily observing their surroundings.
“Team Leader Tang, I want another lollipop.”
“Not this flavor. I want the strawberry one from your mouth!”
“Yes, that’s the one! Thank you, Team Leader Tang, you’re such a good person.”
With her bright eyes and sweet smile, no one could blame the well-behaved Zhu Yun. However, Wei Jin couldn’t help but have a nagging thought. Was the team leader being a little too indulgent with her?
Wei Jin thought his gaze was unnoticed, but a sharp look from Tang Zixi made him immediately stop scrutinizing Zhu Yun. For a moment, Wei Jin felt that Tang Zixi had turned into a foolish emperor, only caring about a beautiful face and ignoring her loyal subjects!
He had no problem with Zhu Yun. Not only did they have no feud, but on a deeper level, she was also a healing ability user, so he would need her help someday. Any great animosity would have to be put aside. Besides, Zhu Yun hadn’t offended Wei Jin, and Tang Zixi’s indulgence came from her personal supplies, not the team’s. So, Wei Jin’s curiosity was just that—simple curiosity.
“Team Leader, you go ahead and stay with Zhu Yun. Zhou Kuang and I will handle the zombies in the factory.”
“Okay.”
Wei Jin’s head snapped back. No way, Team Leader. I was just being polite! Are you serious?
Zhou Kuang was a practical person. He hooked his arm around Wei Jin’s neck and pulled him into the factory. In the time that followed, Wei Jin was treated to the sight of various zombies being savagely beaten, a bloody and thrilling spectacle.
Wei Jin covered his nose and mouth, keeping his distance from Zhou Kuang. He said in a disgusted tone, “I’m telling you, Zhou Kuang, next time, can you at least give the zombies a nicer way to die? Stop with the head explosions. Not only does it get your hands dirty, but it’s also terrifying.”
Zhou Kuang swore, “You’re a pain in the ass. If the team leader hadn’t called for you, I wouldn’t have bothered teaming up with you. You’re acting like a woman.”
“Don’t get into gender discrimination while you’re yelling at me! I’m just saying you’re dirty, so what!”
The shouting match between Zhou Kuang and Wei Jin quickly died down. That was because Tang Zixi pushed Zhu Yun inside. The two instantly went back to acting like best friends, the kind who would take a shot together.
Zhu Yun glanced around, ignoring the two idiots who were laughing to themselves. She said to Tang Zixi, “Let’s go down. There should be something there.”
Zhou Kuang and Wei Jin exchanged a look and took the lead.
The puppet saw Zhu Yun beckon it with a finger and obediently came over, intending to take over Tang Zixi’s job.
Tang Zixi was pushed to the side. She frowned and said, “You don’t need me anymore?”
Zhu Yun tilted her head. “Aren’t you going to be busy? I have my godmother.”
Tang Zixi’s fingers, which were hanging at her sides, curled up uncomfortably. She nodded, which served as her response to Zhu Yun.
Ever since she had exhausted her abilities and fallen into a coma that day, Tang Zixi had subconsciously taken great care of Zhu Yun. She didn’t know why she was doing this. The only way she could explain her actions was with the word “gratitude.” After all, Zhu Yun had saved her, hadn’t she?
So, she gave Zhu Yun her bed, her room, and whatever supplies Zhu Yun asked for from her space.
But Zhu Yun didn’t take advantage of Tang Zixi’s patience. She didn’t hog the bed and the room, kindly leaving half for Tang Zixi. Even the snacks she asked for were just the supplies they had found in the supermarket, which rightfully belonged to Zhu Yun anyway.
She was sensible and knew her limits, never crossing the line recklessly, only staying within it and living her life cheerfully.
She could have enjoyed the right to be spoiled, but Zhu Yun maintained the status quo, which made Tang Zixi feel a sense of distance.
She had saved her life, so shouldn’t she be a little more demanding?
Unfortunately, she wasn’t.
Tang Zixi pursed her thin lips and looked back at the smiling Zhu Yun in the wheelchair. She was talking to the puppet, looking tranquil and lovely.
The person in her eyes had changed. It was no longer herself.
Actually, she could have continued to push her wheelchair. Zhou Kuang and Wei Jin could have handled the other tasks.
Tang Zixi lowered her gaze, maintaining a distance from Zhu Yun that was neither too far nor too close.
“Godmother, did you sleep well last night?”
“Godmother, do you want a lollipop later?”
“Godmother, may your abilities be super effective later.”
[Stop acting, you’re such a phony, Xiao Zhu! You’re so good at acting!]
[Puppets don’t need to eat or sleep. If the person who created it didn’t have such high cultivation, the puppet wouldn’t be so intelligent as to pretend to sleep and eat. All the food it saves is for you!]
Zhu Yun had a lollipop in her mouth. This brand had sold very well before the apocalypse, which meant it tasted great. So, Zhu Yun liked them quite a bit, but her favorites were still lemon and lychee flavors.
Her smile deepened. She knew exactly who 857 was siding with, but she was doing it on purpose. She had to increase her presence. Otherwise, how could she make Team Leader Tang care about her? This was a special way of getting a leg up.
“Okay, okay, stop with the sermon. I didn’t do anything to her.”
I’ve noticed you’re getting more and more mischievous, Xiao Zhu.
Zhu Yun suddenly felt the lollipop in her mouth wasn’t so sweet anymore. She lowered her head sadly, looking remorseful as she bit her lip. She hesitated, “R-really?”
I was just kidding. Just listen casually, Xiao Zhu. Don’t take it seriously.
“I understand what 857 means. You don’t have to comfort me. I know I’m bad and not well-behaved. It’s just being stabbed. It’s nothing. Anyway, I’m alive and well. Even if my parents died at the hands of zombies to save the male lead, it’s fine. As long as he’s safe, I’m safe. After all, I’m waiting for him to come and kill me.”
[…]
Here’s a free Thunder Talisman!
Zhu Yun’s eyes darted around. A slow smile spread across her lips. She quickly blinked and put away the free Thunder Talisman, smiling sweetly. “Well, I’ll take it then. 857, you’re so good to me.”
[!@#@#@!*#!]
What a-what attribute have you unlocked?!
Zhu Yun seemed to not understand 857’s words and said innocently, “Haven’t I always been like this?”
…Indeed. You’re right. You were exactly like this before.
Thinking back to those days… never mind, let’s not think about it. It’s all just painful memories.
Zhu Yun, with her heart full, thought about how she was about to steal the male lead Ling Chengze’s supplies. Her smile became unrestrained. She urged the puppet, “Let’s hurry and take a look. I heard Zhou Kuang yelling.”
At that moment, Tang Zixi returned. She stopped in front of Zhu Yun and, without a word, simply picked her up.
“Hey!”
Tang Zixi touched her palate and held her tighter. “It’s a staircase down there. The wheelchair won’t work.”
Zhu Yun hooked her hands around her neck, teasingly saying, “So you’re here to hold me?”
“Yes.”
“Am I heavy?”
“Not really.”
Zhu Yun glanced at her, her expression not very friendly since she didn’t get a definitive answer from Tang Zixi. “Then I’ll eat less from now on to make it easier for Team Leader Tang to hold me.”
“No need. I’m strong.”
Zhu Yun ‘tsk’ed, poking her cheek with a finger. “Shameless.”
The spot where Zhu Yun touched her felt strange. Tang Zixi wanted to purse her lips into a straight line. She saw Tang Zixi’s serious expression and said helplessly, “You have such a grave expression. Anyone would think you were holding a bomb.”
Tang Zixi clarified her expression. “Did I scare you? I wasn’t being fierce.”
Zhu Yun feigned weakness and leaned her head on Tang Zixi’s shoulder. “It’s fine. I wasn’t scared, just a little sad.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay~”
Tang Zixi’s lips curved slightly as she carried Zhu Yun down the stairs steadily.
Ability users’ bodies had been modified by their abilities. Although they hadn’t reached the level of being indestructible, their physical fitness was definitely much stronger than before.
However, Zhu Yun’s healer-type ability was naturally inferior to others. In terms of offense and defense, healer types were slightly weaker, but fortunately, Zhu Yun could extend lives and had a thick health bar.
The sight of Tang Zixi holding her might have surprised Wei Jin under normal circumstances, but right now, he saw a huge pile of canned goods and had no room in his eyes for anything else.
“Team Leader, Team Leader, we’ve struck it rich!”
Zhou Kuang was ecstatic. “Zhu Yun, you’re a lucky star!”
Zhu Yun was also shocked by the sheer number of cans. She hadn’t expected there to be so many. She explained, “I heard about this when I was escaping. I didn’t think there would be this much. He must have been hoarding them for a while.”
“Hehe, now we’re the ones benefiting. This guy must have been a hoarder in his past life, to have enough to fill an entire wall. He’s amazing.”
Zhou Kuang said with emotion, “If this were before, I would’ve called the police.”
Wei Jin laughed, patting his shoulder. “The order is all messed up now. Who needs that? The most important thing is to survive.”
“Let’s divide these cans into three portions: one for Zhu Yun, one to be split among the team, and the last one for my space, for emergencies. What do you all think?”
Zhou Kuang was the first to speak. “I agree with the team leader’s distribution. If Zhu Yun hadn’t generously told us about this, we wouldn’t have gotten this benefit. She deserves a portion.”
Wei Jin was reluctant, but he knew it was the right thing to do. He said, “I have no objections. I’ll listen to the team leader.”
Zhu Yun looked at Tang Zixi, smiling as she asked, “Are you really willing to give it away?”
Tang Zixi said calmly, “It was yours to begin with. What is there to be willing or unwilling about?”
Zhu Yun found these words very pleasant to the ear. In comparison to Tang Zixi, the male lead Ling Chengze’s actions in the plot seemed petty and unworthy of a leader. To think he was the male lead… it was crazy.
Zhu Yun said to Zhou Kuang and Wei Jin, “Then I’ll thank you all for your kindness.”
Her smile was bright and moving. In the bitterly cold winter, it was like a warm ray of sunshine, making people want to get closer to her.
Tang Zixi’s eyes moved slightly. A thought lingered on the mountain of canned goods, and in an instant, it became empty. She turned around with Zhu Yun in her arms and said, “Let’s go. It’s going to snow soon.”
“How do you know it’s going to snow?”
“A hunch.”
Zhu Yun asked curiously, “Are your hunches very accurate?”
Tang Zixi looked down at her clear eyes and said, “Very.”
So on the way back, Zhu Yun was dressed up like a fat penguin by Tang Zixi. With a hat, scarf, and down jacket all put on her, only her eyes were visible as she sat in the passenger seat.
Tang Zixi smiled with satisfaction. Now, let’s see who will be captivated by her smile.
“Hey, you’re so mean.”
Tang Zixi glanced sideways at her. “Then tell me, are you warm?”
Zhu Yun chuckled, holding up her gloved hands to show off. “Super warm!”
Wait, that’s not right. Wasn’t she supposed to be questioning Tang Zixi?
Dang it, she fell for it.
“Hmph, you’re sly.”
Tang Zixi put on her sunglasses. Staring at the snowy road for too long would damage her eyes, and the sunglasses would prevent this from happening.
She looked cool and sharp, with her black hair tied up high. Her prominent jawline made her features more defined. Zhu Yun suddenly asked, “What was your job before?”
“A criminal investigator.”
“That makes sense.”
“Then where’s your gun?”
Tang Zixi explained, “Criminal investigators don’t carry guns with them at all times. But when the apocalypse broke out, I was chasing a serial killer. The gun helped me survive the apocalypse. I have it in my space now.”
Zhu Yun had never touched a gun before and couldn’t help but ask, “Can I see it?”
Tang Zixi’s lips curved. “I’ll show you tonight.”
“Oh, is it that precious? I have to wait until tonight to see it.”
Tang Zixi smiled faintly. “There’s more time at night. Do you want to see it disassembled?”
“Yes!”
“Okay, tonight then.”
Zhu Yun swayed a little and bumped her shoulder. “I’ll be waiting, so don’t you forget.”
Tang Zixi hummed softly, her voice so sexy that Zhu Yun somehow heard a hint of disdain. She thought about it and decided to hold back. It wouldn’t be too late to argue with her after she had seen the gun disassembled.
It did start to snow, just as Tang Zixi predicted. The SUV drove steadily through the snow. When they came across a Level 1 zombie, she simply hit it with the front of the car. Zhu Yun watched her hold the steering wheel, her body still, and saw a kind of violent beauty in the scene. Zhu Yun silently pulled her scarf up to cover her eyes. She must have been seeing things…
The group didn’t linger on the road for too long. When Tang Zixi carried Zhu Yun and put her back in her wheelchair, Zhu Yun once again felt as if someone was watching her from behind. She frowned unhappily. She didn’t have to turn around to know it was Gu Shuyi.
Is there something wrong with this person? She hadn’t offended her, yet from the moment they met, Gu Shuyi had been so contemptuous, nitpicking and now playing these little games. It was so annoying.
“Team Leader, where did you all go?”
Gu Shuyi couldn’t help but speak, and when she did, she didn’t forget to involve Liu Hua. She said, “Team Leader, Liu Ye has been in a coma for two days. He should be okay, right? Maybe I should ask a member of Zhao Yuan’s team to take a look? I’m really worried about him sleeping all the time and not waking up.”
“You’re so worried about him, but I haven’t seen you taking care of Liu Ye. You’re just chattering away nonstop. Are you a sparrow?” Zhu Yun said with a smiling face, but at the end, she looked puzzled and rested her hand on the wheelchair armrest, propping up her chin to watch Gu Shuyi’s little act.
Gu Shuyi sighed helplessly, as if she were looking at a disobedient child. She wasn’t angered by Zhu Yun’s retort and said kindly, “Zhu Yun, I know what I said might have upset you, but you don’t understand me. Liu Ye is our teammate. Of course I’d be worried if he was in danger. You’re just young, and maybe your abilities aren’t as good as others. I was just worried, which is why I said something that upset you. Don’t mind it. I didn’t mean anything by it.”
Zhu Yun didn’t fall for it. She held up two fingers and said with a smile, “First, my ability is very strong. Second, I do mind.”
You just called Tang Zixi shameless, and now you’re showing off how powerful you are!
“I’m me, and she’s her. It’s not the same.”
After saying that, Zhu Yun stopped paying attention to Gu Shuyi. She yawned and rubbed her eyes, saying, “Godmother, I’m tired. Can you accompany me back to the room to rest?”
The puppet only listened to her commands. It forcefully took the wheelchair from Tang Zixi and pushed her along without a moment’s hesitation.
“Zhu Yun, are you running away?”
“Liu Ye has been asleep for two days and hasn’t woken up. You won’t let me go ask for Old Wu’s help now because you’re afraid people will laugh at your abilities.” Gu Shuyi spoke righteously, as if she were genuinely concerned about Liu Ye’s injuries. Liu Hua, standing beside her, felt that her complaints were getting out of hand and tugged on her hand, saying, “Shuyi, stop talking. Liu Ye will be fine.”
Gu Shuyi wanted to stand on the moral high ground. She pointed a finger and accused, “Liu Hua, you can’t refuse to tell the truth just because you’re afraid of offending Zhu Yun! Liu Ye is your brother! I, a mere teammate, am willing to speak up for him. How can you, his sister, not even dare to say a word?”
Her endless talking stopped when she saw Tang Zixi’s spatial blades. Six spatial blades surrounded her head. The close-up intimidation made Gu Shuyi feel the threat from a powerful person. She didn’t dare to move, afraid that a spatial blade would pierce her brain.
“Gu Shuyi, you’re very noisy.”
“When you joined the team, I said one thing: the most important things in this team are order and peaceful coexistence. Don’t make me say it a second time.”
Zhu Yun patted the puppet’s hand and shook her head with a look of regret.
It’s hard to be a good person. She had been willing to let Gu Shuyi off, but she had to be a loudmouth and cause trouble. In that case, she just couldn’t be a good person anymore.
“Gu Shuyi, if Liu Ye wakes up today, how are you going to apologize to me?”
Gu Shuyi still didn’t dare to speak. Zhu Yun looked at the spatial blades and said with a smile, “Oh, sorry. My memory’s a bit fuzzy. Team Leader Tang, you can retract your abilities for now.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the spatial blades disappeared without a trace.
Gu Shuyi saw how biased Tang Zixi was and was filled with anger, losing all reason. “Liu Ye has been in a coma for days! I don’t believe he’ll wake up today. You want to make a bet with me? Fine! If Liu Ye wakes up today, I’ll call you Great-Grandma from now on! You’ll be my ancestor!”
Zhu Yun’s eyes lit up, and she snapped her fingers. “Hey! Not bad. I like that bet.”
Gu Shuyi pointed at Zhu Yun and said angrily, “If Liu Ye doesn’t wake up, you have to leave the team and not come back!”
Zhu Yun scratched her cheek and said with a headache, “That doesn’t seem like a bad idea, but if I leave the team, I demand that you can’t eat my canned goods. Team Leader Tang, how about you don’t give her her portion of the cans? After all, I won’t be on your team, so I can give them to whoever I want.”
Gu Shuyi was dumbfounded. “Canned goods? What canned goods?”
Wei Jin burst out laughing and gave her the short version of what happened at the factory.
Gu Shuyi quickly realized how impressed the other team members were with Zhu Yun. She said anxiously, “No!”
“Why not? I accept your bet.” Zhu Yun’s calm attitude made Gu Shuyi regret saying what she did. She had a flash of inspiration and said, “I admit I spoke too loudly just now. I’m not the team leader, so I can’t decide who stays and who goes. How about this? If Liu Ye doesn’t wake up, you just stay away from the team leader. She’s the team leader, not your personal nanny!”
Tang Zixi raised her eyes and said, her red lips slightly parted, “You are very boring.”
Zhu Yun shook her head, rejecting the proposal. “The team leader can’t be used as a bet. I wouldn’t be willing to do that.”
Tang Zixi’s eyes changed, becoming softer without her realizing it.
Gu Shuyi saw this clearly. She stomped her foot in frustration. This hypocritical woman, Zhu Yun, was deliberately trying to get on the team leader’s good side!
Wei Jin couldn’t stand it anymore. He walked over and whispered, “Stop making a scene. You can’t win against her.”
This guy would only last half an episode in a palace drama. She wouldn’t even make it to the end credits.
Zhu Yun put her hands in her pockets and said with a smile, “If I lose, I’ll give my canned goods to you.”
Gu Shuyi was satisfied. She lifted her chin and said, “It’s a deal then!”
Zhu Yun pouted at Tang Zixi, saying pitifully, “I’ll be a pauper then, so I’ll have to rely on you, Team Leader.”
Tang Zixi knew she was faking it, but she still couldn’t help but nod. “Don’t worry. I promise.”
“857, she actually watched me trick Gu Shuyi. Does that mean I’m more important than that guy?”
Of course!
Liu Hua hesitated. She was also very curious about when her brother would wake up. So, she’d believe Zhu Yun one more time.
Everyone had their own thoughts when they suddenly heard a ‘bang’ from a room. A weak figure crawled out, clinging to the door frame, his face pale and his voice hoarse, “Please, have mercy on me. Give me some water.”
His hand happened to grab Gu Shuyi’s ankle, and she shrieked in terror, “A ghost!!”
Zhu Yun’s face lit up with excitement. “Oh, you’re awake.”
Just as she was about to smile, her brows furrowed again. She tugged on Tang Zixi’s sleeve and said with a difficult expression, “Team Leader, I feel so sad when I think that I’ll have a great-granddaughter who’s older than me.”
Tang Zixi saw through her act, smiled, and pulled on the pom-pom on her hat. Bending down, she whispered, “Had enough fun? Hmm?”
“857, I just realized this woman has such beautiful lips!”
