I Have the Aura of a Supporting Character in Yuri Novels - Chapter 13
The livestream continued as usual. The previous episodes had built up so much hype that this novel variety show became a huge hit. The number of viewers in the livestream room always exceeded the director’s expectations, so the show was gaining more and more sponsors. With a bolstered sense of confidence, the director’s attitude became a source of frustration for Zhou Shihao, who wanted to vent his anger but couldn’t find a suitable opportunity.
If the show hadn’t gained popularity and new investment, he could have still lorded his status over the director and acted like a spoiled rich kid. Unfortunately, the people who brought all the benefits to the show were not him, but the other two women.
However, the online traffic also brought some trouble to the production team: the speculation about the amateur guests’ professions. The director had initially wanted to create some buzz, but someone had already dug up information about the guests online. Since neither the production team nor the people involved had confirmed the information, many comments were causing a stir. This left the director feeling both delighted and troubled.
“Yueqi.”
That day, Lü Tinglan once again held a wine glass and blocked Tang Yueqi’s path. There was a hint of persistence in her eyes, which puzzled Tang Yueqi because they didn’t have much in common to talk about.
“Is something wrong?”
Having just finished the livestream, Lü Tinglan had specifically waited for Tang Yueqi in this spot. She had overheard Zhu yun saying she wanted coffee, so she had stayed at the bar, waiting for her.
Tang Yueqi placed the coffee on the table, sighed, and sat back down. “Let’s skip the small talk and get straight to the point.”
“Yueqi, a few days ago, didn’t you say the director would reveal our professions soon? Why hasn’t that segment happened yet?”
Tang Yueqi shrugged. “That was just my guess. I have nothing to do with the director’s plans. Tinglan, what do you really want to ask?”
Lü Tinglan hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering. Seeing that there was no one else around, she cautiously asked, “The internet says Zhou Shihao is the heir to a wealthy family. Is it true?”
Tang Yueqi’s expression was subtle; she frowned. “Don’t tell me…”
Lü Tinglan wasn’t afraid of being laughed at. She took a sip of red wine, licked her lips, and said nonchalantly, “If his identity is really what they say, then the company I work for is the family business he’ll take over one day. As an employee, I get to meet my future boss. What should I do?”
Tang Yueqi, however, had a different perspective. She said calmly, “For someone with his background, do you think he needs to be on this variety show? Or do you think he needs this show to raise his status?”
The woman’s clear, calm eyes were like a snowball hitting Lü Tinglan’s face, chilling her fiery, restless heart and miraculously calming it down.
Tang Yueqi couldn’t help but pat her on the shoulder and said slowly, “His background might be good, but it’s definitely not what the rumors say. You… should calm down.”
She had said what needed to be said. Although she didn’t understand why Lü Tinglan would confide in her, she hoped she wouldn’t lose her sense of perspective. Otherwise, she would be the only one who got hurt.
Tang Yueqi picked up her coffee and walked past her. Lü Tinglan propped her head up with her hand and gave a bitter smile.
She said, “Thanks.”
She had been a little too impulsive. The stress at work was overwhelming, and sometimes she really wanted to take shortcuts she would later despise. But she was also unwilling to become that kind of woman. So when she happened to see Zhou Shihao’s information online, she couldn’t help but be moved. She felt it must be a destined match, that fate had brought them together on the show. After all, Zhou Shihao’s build and looks were already her type; with the added layer of his rumored identity, she simply couldn’t control her heart.
Tang Yueqi didn’t respond. In her view, whatever Lü Tinglan chose was her own business. She had offered her analysis simply to have a clear conscience.
She knocked on the door. Zhu yun quickly came to open it. When Zhu yun saw the cup of coffee in her hand, the smile on her face became sweet, as if it wasn’t a cup of coffee but sweet water with honey.
“Oh, so you went to make coffee just now.”
Zhu yun took the coffee, and Tang Yueqi followed her in. Seeing Zhu yun’s bright smile, Tang Yueqi also felt happy.
Tang Yueqi hummed softly in response. Zhu yun gave her a sidelong glance. “That’s it?”
She laughed softly. “What else should I say?”
Zhu yun let out a sigh of disappointment. “You should show off when you do something nice. If you don’t say anything, how am I supposed to know?”
“Then you teach me.” She sat down obediently, her eyes sincerely looking at the talkative Zhuyun. The tenderness in her eyes made the woman no longer cold. At this moment, Tang Yueqi had a slight smile on her lips; she was radiant and beautiful. She had shed her icy aloofness, becoming as gentle as water.
Zhu yun’s tongue stumbled, as if it were tied in a knot. Her face flushed, and she mumbled, “Never mind, never mind. You’re fine just the way you are.”
She couldn’t even win against the current Tang Yueqi, who didn’t know how to flirt. If she taught her how to use sweet words, wouldn’t she be in an even worse position?
“By the way, I just heard from Duan Fei that Tinglan went to see you?” Zhu yun quickly changed the subject, taking a small sip of coffee to hide her embarrassment. However, the lingering warmth on her face made it impossible for her to pretend nothing had happened.
Tang Yueqi nodded. “We talked about something.”
“What about?”
She thought for a moment. “Lü Tinglan’s personal business.”
“Oh, why did she go to Sister Yue to talk about her personal business? Could it be that you two are very close, and she came to share her thoughts with you?” Zhu yun’s heart dropped. ‘Wait, Tang Yueqi and Lü Tinglan are close enough to have private conversations? So I’m not the only one in the running for the heroine’s attention?’
Zhu yun almost bit her tongue. ‘My goodness, what was I just thinking? And… was that a little inappropriate to say?’
Tang Yueqi squeezed Zhu yun’s cheek hard, as if letting out some frustration, and said helplessly, “I don’t understand why she came to me either, but since you’re not an outsider, there’s nothing to hide from you.”
She kept the story short. If she didn’t mention this private matter, Zhu yun might misunderstand, so Tang Yueqi didn’t hesitate to clear things up. Besides, she believed Zhu yun wasn’t the type to gossip behind people’s backs, so talking about this private matter would be more beneficial than not.
After hearing the whole story, Zhu yun immediately thought of her bet with System 857. ‘Phew, System 857 almost won.’
Her eyes sparkled, and she cupped her face with her hands, saying admiringly, “You’re amazing!”
“This… this is nothing special,” Tang Yueqi said, touching her nose, flustered by Zhuyun’s gaze.
The more Zhu yun thought about it, the happier she became. Her laughter was clear and bright. In Tang Yueqi’s doting gaze, she pounced on her. Zhu yun’s head rolled back and forth on Tang Yueqi’s shoulder, whining playfully, “You’re just amazing!”
Tang Yueqi couldn’t help but smile, wrapping her arms around the woman snuggled in her embrace. Her eyes were crescent-shaped, mesmerizing.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Tang Yueqi frowned, unhappy that someone was interrupting their moment, but seeing the caller, she said apologetically, “Xiaozhu, I need to take a call.”
“Okay, okay.”
Zhu yun took her seat and, while drinking her coffee, began her battle of wits with the system.
“Hmph, you’re going to lose this time. Don’t forget to give me some cheats in my beginner’s gift package, okay?”
…
I planned for everything, but I never expected to lose to Tang Yueqi! Don’t get so smug, Xiaozhu. Lü Tinglan might not give up and try her luck again!
Zhu yun was calm and composed. “She’s a smart person. Once someone points it out to her, she won’t make the same mistake. Just you wait and see.”
The two had a bet about whether anyone would be interested in Zhou Shihao’s background if it were exposed. System 857 thought Lü Tinglan would fawn over him, but Zhu yun disagreed.
You! Hmph! I’m not talking to you anymore.
System 857 ran offline. Zhu yun felt it had simply found an excuse to leave because it couldn’t win the argument.
“What do you call this? A godsend! Thank you, heroine, for a million years!”
She muttered to herself. The lively spark in her eyes turned into something else when Tang Yueqi, who had just finished her phone call, looked at her. Tang Yueqi’s expression was blank as she listened to what her senior sister, Mu Nianqiao, had said. She said in a low voice, “Okay, I understand.”
After hanging up, Tang Yueqi walked over to Zhu yun and ruffled her hair, which earned her a glare of displeasure from Zhu yun.
Just then, Zhu yun’s good mood instantly evaporated and became nothing. She was stunned and at a loss for words, all because of what Tang Yueqi said next.
“Xiaozhu, I have to leave for a few days.” In the bustling airport waiting lounge, Mu Nianqiao was busy finishing a phone call. Behind her stood a few young girls with youthful faces and slender, tall figures. They looked at each other but didn’t dare to say a word.
Mu Nianqiao gave them instructions. “Remember to listen to Yue when you’re performing out of town this time. Chuchu suddenly had a relapse of her old illness, so I had to call Yue to fill in. I’m relieved to have her take you.”
The girls were very nervous. They all thought of Tang Yueqi’s strictness. She was a senior who demanded every move be perfect and precise. They wondered if they could meet her standards.
“Sister Qiao, why did Senior Sister Tang go on that show to create hype? Is our group that short on money?” one bold girl couldn’t help but ask.
Mu Nianqiao was taken aback, then quickly laughed. “It’s not what you think. Our group isn’t short on money. Yue is on the show to repay a favor.”
“So it’s not for hype? Senior Sister Tang and that Zhu yun girl are so popular now. Their CP videos online have millions of views.”
Mu Nianqiao was about to speak when she saw Tang Yueqi hurrying over.
She wore sunglasses, looking cold and noble, and was pushing a suitcase. Her dark coat gave her an unapproachable vibe.
Her lips curled slightly in a smile because she saw Mu Nianqiao.
“Sister.”
“Yue, you’re finally here.”
She gave Tang Yueqi an enthusiastic hug and introduced the girls who would be performing this time.
The girl who had asked the question quietly looked away, close to tears. She hoped Tang Yueqi hadn’t heard her, or she would be in big trouble.
It had been a while since Mu Nianqiao had seen Tang Yueqi. Seeing her wearing sunglasses, she teased, “Now that Yue is a big star, people would recognize her without sunglasses, right?”
At the mention of sunglasses, Tang Yueqi’s cold expression softened, and she smiled sweetly. She pushed her sunglasses up and said gently, “Xiaozhu put them on for me. She’s doing it for my own good, so I have to listen to her.”
Mu Nianqiao’s face was a mixture of surprise and confusion. She ignored her image and reached out to pinch Tang Yueqi’s cheek, saying, “Let me see if someone has taken over your body.”
‘It’s impossible! This is definitely not my cold and distant junior sister!’
