I Have the Aura of a Supporting Character in Yuri Novels - Chapter 11
The third live broadcast of the dating reality show begins. It’s a beautiful sunny day, and the main event is a “Dating Simulation” segment without a script, relying entirely on the contestants’ instincts. The unpredictability of the segment has fans both excited and nervous, worried that their favorite pairings like Duan Fei and Sun Qiuyang, or Ayu and Zhu Jun) might not end up together. A few niche fans are even shipping the seemingly hostile pair of Zhou Shihao and Zhu Jun, but they are quickly shot down by the majority.
Thanks to the show’s growing popularity, the third broadcast is a massive hit, attracting many new viewers. The director quickly introduces four potential date locations.
The first person to enter and choose a location is Tang Yueqi. She is dressed up for the occasion, wearing a silver ginkgo leaf earring that complements her elegant, curly hair. The director is surprised she drew the number one spot. Without hesitation, Tang Yueqi chooses one of the location cards, leaving the director curious about her choice. He hopes the popular couple doesn’t get split up, as a messy outcome could be bad for the show.
The second person to enter is Zhu Jun, much to the director’s surprise and amusement. Zhu Jun reveals she intentionally took the number two spot, which was originally meant for Zhou Shihao, simply because she dislikes him. She feels a moment of anxiety about deviating from the plot but is relieved when her system, 857, doesn’t object, confirming that the system only cares about the plot moving forward, regardless of who triggers the key events.
The director begins to see a strange “fate” between the two women and contemplates giving Zhu Jun a hint to ensure she picks the same location as Tang Yueqi. He has already forgotten about Zhou Shihao’s romantic interests, prioritizing the show’s ratings and new sponsorships. He’s also aware of Zhou Shihao’s illegitimate status and doesn’t see him as a significant threat.
Before he can intervene, Zhu Jun chooses her location. The director is stunned when she picks the exact same card as Tang Yueqi. The live chat explodes with excitement, celebrating the “perfect” match and “sweet” coincidence.
Zhu Jun, oblivious to the chat, feels a flutter of nerves. She notices some roses in a vase and takes one, feeling a mix of excitement and tension. She is confident Tang Yueqi chose the same place, even though the date locations are different from the original plot.
The chosen location is a small courtyard behind the apartment, filled with golden ginkgo trees. Tang Yueqi is already seated on a bench, and upon hearing footsteps, she turns around eagerly. Seeing Zhu Jun, she visibly relaxes and gestures for her to sit down, saying, “You’re finally here.”
Zhu Jun smiles, bending down to look at the beautifully dressed Tang Yueqi. “For you, I had to get number two,” she says.
Tang Yueqi asks what she means, and Zhu Jun explains that she didn’t want to embarrass herself by not choosing the same location as her closest friend. She then presents Tang Yueqi with a rose, saying a date without a rose is like drinking without a snack. Tang Yueqi accepts the flower, and Zhu Jun is struck by her beauty.
Zhu Jun sits down and playfully nudges Tang Yueqi’s shoulder, asking if she’s nervous about her first date with a girl. Tang Yueqi’s eyes light up with amusement. “I was nervous,” she admits, “but I’m not anymore, now that I’ve seen you.”
Zhu Jun immediately feels a pang of disappointment, thinking Tang Yueqi isn’t excited about their date. She pouts and complains to her system, 857, calling Tang Yueqi heartless. Her system tells her to let Tang Yueqi finish speaking. Zhu Jun, being a good listener, quiets down.
Tang Yueqi laughs softly and rests her head on Zhu Jun’s shoulder. “My initial nervousness was from the worry of not seeing you,” she clarifies. “But when you appeared with that flower, I knew it was wrong to be nervous. I should be happy. Because the makeup I put on and the clothes I’m wearing were for the person I wanted to see. So, am I pretty today?”
Zhu Jun’s heart skips a beat. She’s flustered and finds herself unable to form a coherent response, only managing to stutter that Tang Yueqi is always beautiful, but even more so today. Her face turns red, and she muses on how she almost wants Tang Yueqi to taste the chocolate-flavored lipstick she’s wearing.
Tang Yueqi thanks her, and Zhu Jun proudly says, “You’re welcome!”
Then, Tang Yueqi looks at the flower and says slyly, “And thank you for the Chinese rose.”
“You’re welcome… wait!” Zhu Jun is shocked and asks her system to confirm. 857 tells her it is indeed a Chinese rose, not a rose. Zhu Jun, furious, berates her system for not telling her. The system cheekily replies that it thought she was deliberately being silly to get a reaction from Tang Yueqi.
Zhu Jun is indignant, but then Tang Yueqi gently strokes her hair and smiles, “You’re so cute.”
Zhu Jun’s face flushes even more. Looking at the “Chinese rose,” she decides with newfound conviction, “Being a little silly is actually pretty good.”
The chapter ends with the system, 857, simply responding, “Hehe.”
